While you are not wrong for doing what you did, it’s considered common courtesy to not disrupt even numbered fights (1v1, 2v2 etc)
Yep, I think Deli has it… most roamers enjoy even numbered fights, even if not a pure duel with /bows and all and it’s to the death. If I roam and find another solo roamer, the last thing I want is that someone interferes in the middle of the engagement, be it going good or bad for me.
Roaming tends to lead to fights, and fights are not duels. When I roam, I expect others to join the fight (whether with or against me). It’s part of massive PvP tactics and strategy. We must all maintain situational awareness, be aware of our capabilities, and know when to pop smoke.
If I saw a fellow soldier engaging the enemy on a battlefield, I would come to that person’s aid. If the same soldier was in a boxing match, then I would sit and watch. WvW is a battlefield, and I don’t hesitate to join in a fight. We’ve got s/t/PvP and (nominally) OS to be boxing rinks.
Second. A “day” rotation over 2 hours or so would provide for some interesting combat scenarios. I know coding something like this would be painful though…
Thanks for the feedback, Kuper! You gave me some things to think about.
Power/Condi hybrid is fine. I use a similar build sometimes when roaming. -

Although I do not use Greatsword. I opt for the Longbow, both a condi and power weapon so it fits, also the Burst is used more often than the Greasword giving the ability to condi-cleanse whenever you need.
I also swap out Shield for Sword in the off-hand for an extra Condi (torment), it also helps when chasing players, they either stop running so you catch up, or they die as they run away. – Rip also does massive damage.
I’ve done LB before (for the longest time I did toyed with axe/sh & LB). Sword offhand is pretty nice. I’ve done axe/sw~mace/sh before and gotten pretty decent results.
You have 6 in defense, going for retal procs, yet you have lots of blocks/invulnerability. (Mace block and Stuns/daze, Shield Stun +block and Greatsword Whirlwind Evade) all of this prevent the enemy from hitting you and getting anything from retal hits.
I would recommend going 6 in Discipline and taking Burst Mastery for more adrenaline up-time and adrenal healing minor procs. – also Healign surge can then be swapped for healing Signet which works best as it ticks when you are blocking/Stuning/Dazing the enemy and they can’t hit back.
The main reason I have retal procs is my experience with thieves… whose numbers continuously grow in WvW. It’s auto defense from their 2-3 shot gib. I solo cap camps and roam around, but I never really look to duel 1v1, but thieves always wanna play.
The HSig v HSur depends on my playstyle for the day. Passive healing is nice, but HSur can really get me out of a bind.
Vigor on stances and Stamina Signet gives great endurance regeneration. – Dodges and good use of Stuns/Blocks are what keep you alive.
This is a fun build but more 1v1 than 1vX. You can see some slight changes to what you are running but that is what I use and find it super fun and powerful against most others.
You hit on the big flaw with this build. I have Sup Sigil of Energy on both weapons. Keeping up weapon rotation helps, but the more prolonged a fight gets the more I find energy regen to be an almost breaking point.
Your play style and mine seem kind of similar; so I hope you don’t mind if I steal some stuff from your build!
Changing EoTM from karma train to competitive is a lot easier than changing WvW from imbalanced to balanced
This… I think. K-train happens in WvW, but why isn’t it as pronounced?
It wouldn’t take more than a small cadre (10-15%) of the EotM pop becoming roamers/defenders, and EotM would be changed. The little zerglings could be (have been) easily pushed backed with well placed siege and defenders. Moreover, zerlings can’t cap what’s already been capped by a small roaming band.
For leveling using all signets is really good. Then at lvl 30 you can start investing trait points into arms and get deep strikes
I’d say until you hit 40-60 (not sure with the new patch?) the full signet build is best for new warriors in PVE. So invest in Signet Skills first (in this order): Healing Signet, Sig of Might, Sig of Fury, then Stamina or Dolyak Sig. After 40, start looking in PvP & WvW. Both will help you hone your skills and understand the class’s limitations.
The temptation will be to rush to 80, but take it slow. Warrior is a very versatile and forgiving class, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it well.
Running with a greatsword is every new warrior’s right! Also, check out axe on the main hand… the [F1] skill, Eviscerate, is pretty powerful in any scenario. (Offhand axe is fun at lower levels and PVE but tends to be avoided in PvP and WvW. That’s not to say it can’t be played, but it may not be optimal.) Open up the weapon skills with all the other weapons along the way. Play around with the weapons and learn their strengths and weaknesses. Goof off! Use a mace and sword if you want… once you hit 80, everyone will expect a certain build out of you (Banners! Banners! Banners!). Leveling in PvE is when warrior tends to be extremely fun.
Until you hit 80, buy gear from karma vendors. If the vendors have Power gear, then that’s better for PvE. You can you into WvW and buy karma gear (and weapons) every ten levels if you so wish. You can usually go 0 to 80 with spending a dime on gear this way. Once you hit 80, it depends on your play style. Power? Conditions and control? The sky is the limit. Don’t fall into a meta-warrior grind. Experiment and don’t be afraid to get pawned… it’s all part of the experience.
Shield bash – Evis..Have fun trying to dodge it.You will either dodge Shield bash, and if its your last dodge available, you will not dodge Evis. And if shield bash lands, evis will also land.
^ This. Shield Bash serves as a great setup in any XX/S build. Down side is that SB is very telegraphed (like anything warrior). If someone is mobile (aka kiting), then SB doesn’t give much unless you have some mad skill.
You have one foot in condi and the other in power. Pick one.
Also, your equipment/food needs filling out.
You nailed something for me. I’ve been playing around with armor/trinkets and food combos, and I think one of the reasons I’m coming up short is that the build is not hyper focused exclusively into power or condi.
I’ve played straight power, and I’ve played straight condi (rather go with a necro for that). I’d hate to lose some condi effects if only for the novelty – you can almost see confusion as a warrior applies confusion. At the same time, those effects are useful against fair to middling players (of which there are many).
Do you think it’s not possible or just not optimal to synth power/condi?
I’ve been using this in lately WvW for solo & very small group roaming. The goal of this build is to spend adrenaline to ward off condi. Healing surge can get popped if things get hairy.

StrIV helps w/ Guardians.
StrVII makes the auto-attackers die pretty quickly when combined with M/S.
Defense: II, IX, XII:
DefII seems to be a duh in WvW
DefIX since I’m using my adreline for the skull crack 100B combo might as well get som condi clean too.
DefXII mainly for thieves but also handy for eles
Disciple: I, IV
DisI for shield skill 5. (Mace skill 2 does not seem to trigger it.)
DisIV for quick gain of adrenaline.
Honest feedback appreciated.
there is nothing fair about meeting a warrior on equal terms when you play a squishy class. The warrior can kill you in 4-kittens, while you got to really work for your kill in wearing them down with conditions and hoping their food is not as effective as your ability to keep the conditions coming. Even taking them by surprise is touch and go.
For quite some time, I’ve rolled a warrior as my main. I’ve rolled mace/shield & bow, axe/shield & bow, mace/sword & bow, and the same main combo w/ greatsword alt. I’ve ran zerker, soldier, and mixed armor setups.
I also solo cap camps, and have done so with every armor/weapon combo. In every iteration, I have had thieves come from behind and down me 2-3 hits. It doesn’t always happen… sometimes I can hit tab enough to get the slippery little devils, but any decent thief can come from behind a warrior (while the warrior is distracted) and down the warrior pretty quickly. I’ve also had mesmers, necros, and one very persistent engineer take me, but the fights were much more extended (they don’t get a boost for sneaking up on me).
I like reducing the nameplate size, but changing the nameplate size won’t change play mechanics. Thieves sneak up from behind while someone is distracted and get a giant boost. Everyone else comes from behind to gain initiative.
EotM really highlighted the WvW split. In WvW there seemed to exist a bimodal distribution of play style; by and large, there were fighters (to include roamers, scouts, et al) and there were zergers with few playing in both modes. EotM will continually steal the zergers from low tier server WvW.
Where does that leave the low tier server fighters? sPVP? For low tier servers, sPVP may become the answer for players unable to pay for the trade.
Buffing Outmanned and extending the duration on RI would be a decent start.
I would like to see the down state reduced but not removed. Many times, I’m insta-dead from ACs and ranger spam anyway.
Furthermore, let’s add a hard rez timer added for Outmanned. I.e. if you don’t rez your downed mate after 15-20 sec, then he’s kicked back to the beginning WP… like falling in EoTM. Non-Outmanned would be insta-ported.
Massing is a fundamental military tactic, and we shouldn’t be too upset when it’s used. However, we can mitigate its more ridic aspects.
When I connected via LAN vice wireless, it cleared my issues up on FIOS.
Verizon FIOS? If so, you’re lucky, mine stalls every few seconds.
@pdavis, I run the below for WvW solo camp capping, and it works pretty well for me (even when baddies show up to protect their stuff) . I ran double axes for the longest time, and s/s has blown my mind over the past few weeks.
This isn’t a “meta-build” even though I use a lot of zerk stuff. Just know others are out there experimenting while solo.
However, I run a meta build while in a group. It’s just not fair to the group to do else wise.

Err… my loofa and towel?
Was watching some Foxworthy ankitten ow feeling 90’s nostalgic. This will probably get my forum account banded, but here goes anyway…
You might be a warrior if any other skill besides 1 is more choreographed than a Broadway musical.
Take it away…
PVD… but no seriously, it cycles every hour. Check the patch notes for more.

Just a shot in the dark (and a long shot at that), but if LA is attacked, will the Tengu get involved. Maybe even become playable? Dominion of the Wind does sit right beside LA….
Yuki Honestcrest does say: "We must soon determine with whom we will fight and with whom we will ally."
My toons:
Roustan, Human, lvl 80, Warrior, Zerker, Main PVE (Solo)
Koffix, Asura, lvl 80, Elementalist, Bunker, Main PVE (Support), Main WvWvW
Taioda, Asura, baby-new Guardian, not sure, Alt (Currently Leveling)
I’m on Devona’s Rest, but I have been thinking about moving servers. I’d like to join up with a guild that has people on around 1700-1900 EST (UTC -5) Mon-Fri. These are my main hours. I’m online on the weekends, but since I do alot of outdoors activities, my weekend schedule varies.
I’m doing map competition. I have done dungeons in the past and would be interested in doing them more in the future (though I’m not really interested in speed runs). I’m finishing off jumping puzzles. I would like to do more WvWvW, but Devona’s Rest kills me on that front.
I’m not really interested in PvP at this moment.
I can rep full time.
Send me a invite.
Left clicking (or dragging and dropping) and equipping an weapon to offhand from the inventory or hero window results in duel wield weapon set (with axe as primary) when equipping to 1st or second weapon set. Does not occur if one weapon set is empty. I’ve only done this with axes and maces. Both axes have Zenith skin. Mace is unskinned.
