I used to complain about rally being too slow on ranger, but after seeing thief’s downed state, I have to bite my tongue.
I’m currently lvl 28 and I feel that as soon as I’m downed, I may as well be defeated. I can’t shadowstep far enough away to break aggro for it to be useful. By the time shadow escape is ready, I’ve lost 4/5ths of my health already and I don’t know how to use the 2s of stealth to actually benefit me in any tangible way.
I understand that it could be useful in PvP or if you’re with someone that can res you, but I’m confused about PvE. How can I boost my chances of surviving after being downed?
I’ve noticed several times that if I make it into the big box at the end of the JP with 100-200hp left, the chest area will load briefly and then suddenly teleport me to the waiting area. Now it does that and while I’m walking back and forth in the waiting area, it teleports me back to the chest area.
I think the Quaggan mini is only available by mystic forging 3 of the minis that you can only get from the boxes on the gem shop. There are a couple of holiday minis in the normal gift boxes too, but not the ones that you need for the quaggan.
The drop rates are pretty dismal.

I thought it might be the profane armor skin but that looks completely different.
I think he means the actual weapon skills. I like the skills, but I think a slingshot is kind of a lame weapon to use against a dragon.
I just finished the JP again and it seems like the chest resets with the dailies. (It’s 5 minutes past ANet’s closing time right now). I received 3 giant gifts, a gulp of liquid karma (~4k karma), and 2 other items.

They actually stealth fixed “Opening Strikes”
It works at all ranges now AND works with all long bow abilities.
Thats actually a really really nice fix for longbow. Starting a fight with 20% vulnerability on people, I’ve been blowing them up!
Check for more stealth fixes imo
The lizard pets now properly apply it too, that is an unexpected change. It also no longer disappears on missed hits, so you are promised a 10 stack of vulnerability. Thats fairly huge.
Does the quick math. 10% endurance full, + 10% FLanking, +10% thief armor runes also flanking, 20% penetration + 5% weapon damage, (10% spirit 35% of time) = 165% damage potential to open a fight pre crit? 145% not flanking 135% reliably…..

Can someone explain this to me? Opening strike gives 5 stacks of vulnerability, each stack is 1% so that’s 5%, right? I’m not following the bonuses listed here…

Plus the spirit, but they’re junk and shouldn’t even be included.

I don’t think it’s sensible to include pet’s opening strike in that because that’s another source of damage entirely. So that comes out to 15% (Hunter’s Shot, Opening Strike) + 5% (Eagle Eye) + 20% (Hunter’s Tactics and Thief Rune) + 10% Steady Focus =50%
You do get 300 to Power in the Marksmanship line though. I don’t think we should get ecstatic because it can easily be countered with decent armor. You also sacrifice survivability.

Not sure, but it seems they broke the animations for our birds with this patch. When it lands, it now gets a second pair of wings and looks stupid.
EDIT: Apparently all the animations are messed up for the birds now. Even in flight it has a second pair of wings.

Are you seriously saying that the QA team doesn’t know about a bug that has been reported MULTIPLE times and is common knowledge?
If so, i think you need a new QA Team, one that actually does their job.
Are you guys 12 years old or were you just not raised to treat others with respect? You both definitely could have phrased that better. Understand that the people doing these jobs are human beings just like yourself and that in a real workplace environment solving problems isn’t as simple as receiving it on your desk and churning out a solution 2 minutes later.
Consider this a general game fix patch. The ranger fix is on the way :-)

Seriously though, I understand that the problems with our class demands a lot of time and the nature of software development doesn’t allow us to get fixes at every single patch BUT it would be nice if they would let us know what they’re working on WITHOUT giving an expected date for them to arrive. I just want to know that this class is worth sticking with. I don’t think that’s too much to ask, is it?
Everybody forget something with the GS, the #3 and #4 deals good damages too.
The #5 give to your pet +50% damage on his next attack too, the GS is the best melee weapon to burst.ranger can’t burst. thats one of its problems.
PvP is controlled by burst classes and those without burst get left behindRanger can, not like a rogue of course, but we can. I’m testing a pure melee build, and I can deal ~10k damage in less than 3sec, without big cooldown.
Actually rangers can burst just as heavy and well as thieves, its just that no one knows how to control pets properly. I can do a 15-20k burst in under 3 seconds.
Okay, both of you, what builds are you using? Because this sounds crazy.
The dredge fractal exploit is by far the worst – you can walk through the back wall behind the switch that you use to open the door to the next stage. This allows you to bypass one of the more difficult bits of the fractal since you no longer have to coordinate the first two switches or get everyone inside safely.
On the colossus fractal the final seal is damagable with certain (aoe?) spells, so you can get the boss to 3/4 hp then just kill the seal. I just go afk on that fractal now after the boss is at 3/4 since I know my group will just kill seal anyway. There is a small chance that this is intended, I suppose.
Swamp – It is possible to bug the mossman into a different form permanently, where he no longer has invis or any ranged attacks (or agony?). I do not know how this is done. I have been in groups where the first comment is “bug boss?” on this fractal quite a few times.
To clarify, it’s possible to run past the lava in the dredge fractal and climb up a wall in the back, from there you just jump to the wall with the control panel and the game bugs you through to the other side.
You can attack a champion (usually the ettin) in the asura fractal using melee attacks while it is still on the other side of the barrier. If you begin attacking it this way and then midway stop and release it the way you’re supposed to, it gets stuck inside its holding cell and the only way to kill it is to get inside the cell and attack it there.
In the Colossus fractal, it’s possible to climb the rock to your right when you first start the fractal and range the champ. He doesn’t move and continues to take damage. You can trigger the cutscene before he dies and continue to progress. Otherwise, the fractal glitches (I’m not sure how, I haven’t done this).
Please, some of us like the challenge that the fractals are intended to be. Some people speculate that the only way people are at fractals 20+ right now is by bug-abusing.
When I hit good comment and the icon changes to gray, did I just select it as a good comment or are comments automatically good and clicking that just flags them as not good? I’m used to red being active and gray being inactive.
I am quite embarrassed with the personal attacks to that guy. I was looking forward to this patch and disappointed too, but these are not even criticism, just plain hatred.

Don’t worry man, you’re just seeing the loud and immature lot. I hope JP doesn’t think we’re all unappreciative, whiny kittenholes. It’s unfortunate, but that’s just how things have panned out. Reroll or play another game in the meanwhile. Remember, the game is still young.
I, like the rest of you, am disappointed in this patch. We were first told that a ranger fix was in the works, but with no set date so we expected them for the Halloween update. We were then told that we should expect them for the 11/15 update. We waited, we gave suggestions, we were (for the most part) constructive. So I understand why many of you are so incensed.
But let’s keep in mind that JP is human, that he has noted that our class is the most in need of updates and that he’s working on them, and that it’s not his fault there are only two designers working on balancing professions. The guy’s doing his best, cut him some slack.
We should, however, suggest that ANet dedicates a few more designers to this task because of much uproar there is throughout the class forums. I would also like to suggest that Jon Peters communicate with us more to let us know that our thoughts are being taken into account and to let us know the progress on changes.
Level 80 Ranger here. It occurred to me that I very rarely see anyone using the Norn cultural skills. The owl swoop is pretty useless to me, the wurm AI seems lacking, and I feel like I wasted skill points with Become the Snow Leopard. The cooldown is too long to make it useful in situations where I need my elite. What do you guys think?
