What I also found interesting, was the sentence she spoke to Kasmeer, about nobility. Perhaps my tinfoil hat appeared suddenly, but that struck me as rather peculiar coming from a countess. Also, we went back to the countess – who we know is loyal, from the PS – to see if she was actually speaking the truth. That seemed as if it just served to make us as players wonder about her motives, in case we didn’t pick up on other hints.
Also, E! Wasn’t the player character the only one who received correspondence from E until now? Mysterious ..
E also has corresponded with Marjory during the Dragon Bash incident. I think she called him our mutual friend.
Just to keep everyone updated, here is the latest from Gaile on this issue:
– I updated two e-mail threads about this internally but so far do not have any new information to share.
Thats great to hear.
I know to some this may not be a big deal, but i got so fed up of not getting rewards after running 2-3 hours long daily boss sessions, i just quit the game. I am still watching this thread in the hopes that this bug is fixed so that i may return.
Same here. I’m starting to feel too annoyed to ever come back.
That’s not it. It’s the nature of software and game engineering that there will be bugs. They do their best to find them and fix them before release, but maybe certain bugs just become apparent when much, much more people are attempting it.
Anyway, if you want a product that’s totally bug free, then you’re going to have to wait longer than 2 weeks for a release.
I noticed over in Account Issues, someone submitted a ticket about this issue, and the Support Liaison said:
Gaile Gray.6029:
Update: 24 July 2014
762211 – I am looking into this to ascertain if this is a known issue and how we can handle such issues.
So, at least someone (or more) are looking into it. =)
That’s awesome! It was my fault when I last submitted a support ticket for not sending the in-game report they requested for over a week (work took up all my time) so the ticket was closed.
I’m going to wait to see if there’s any news before I submit another ticket. I want to stress that the GW2 support team does good work though.
(edit)
I hope this is addressed soon. I don’t even want to play the game anymore because all of the things I like to do – fractals, dungeons, world bosses, teq, triple trouble – won’t give me a reward.
(edited by blud.8174)
It’s definitely not tied to mesmer. I play mostly on my ranger and I’ve had this problem since early June as well.
:/ I don’t want to sound entitled, but I think this is a pretty major issue and even though it’s only affecting a smallish subset of players (presumably), there has been enough time that this should at least be acknowledged as being worked on.
This probably started back in late April or early May when a bunch of people were reporting their daily achievements not resetting. I think there was a solution, but my account was still bugged. I took a break from the game for a couple of months and came back recently to find the bug still in place.
I originally submitted a support ticket and they asked me to submit an in-game bug report, but I took too long and my ticket was closed by the time I reported it in-game.
How it’s broken:
I’ll give you an example. I finished my daily achievements 30 minutes before reset today. After reset hit, my achievements were still standing at 5/5 so I closed the game and logged back in. Now my achievements were at 4/5 (without me doing anything towards it, mind you. I have certainly not salvaged any items since reset or done any events.)
The achievements that were already completed were
- Leveler
- Daily Events
- Recycler
- Daily Kills
- Skill Interrupter 8/15
- Daily Gatherer 13/20
So I just went and gathered some stuff to get daily gatherer to 20 and received an achievement chest. Trouble is, I don’t know if they’ll reset so that I can get tomorrow’s achievements. I got a monthly chest for this month, but I don’t think I received one last month even after getting 4/4 (I only logged back in last month).
I don’t expect to be picked, but I’ll toss my name in anyway!
Read the Wind was a bit truncated, it seems.

Can we throw a party? I think we’ve been waiting like a year for something like this.
Holy kitteningkitten kitten. I’ve never been so glad to be wrong. It’s been a loooong time coming, but I won’t say that it was too little too late.

Lol, you’re probably not going to read this, but I just had to log in and comment. I have some empathy for you, but your complaints are kinda ridiculous and full of bad logic.
Allow me to explain. You’re insisting that the problems of the real world should not exist in a game. First of all, it isn’t possible to write fiction without it having some semblance to the real world unless you’re doing an experiment in surrealism. Stories have characters and characters have personalities and stories are interesting because the characters have elements that you can identify and relate to from real life. But whatever.
I understand that you play video games as escapism and you don’t want to be reminded of your disability, but not only is that the exact opposite of what some other disabled people feel, it’s also a problem that only exists because you’re making it exist. Just like how you expect abled people to not pity you and see you as more than a wheelchair (or whatever), you have to stop seeing any depiction of disability as victimizing you. Taimi is not crippled and bed-ridden and dumb – she’s smart, inquisitive, funny, and she doesn’t let her disability keep her from living her life. It’s the exact thing that you want abled people to think. Like the first commenter said, disability is a real thing and hiding it from people does not let them understand that you are a real person with a real personality.
And the false hope thing is also ridiculous. Will you say that people shouldn’t use wheelchairs because it gives a person in a developing country who can only afford crutches a false sense of hope because they will never be able to afford a wheelchair? You can’t say that it’s a fantasy world and fantasy things should happen and then complain that it’s not realistic. No one is expecting you to build a golem – but for that matter, exoskeletons are a developing technology that will someday allow disabled people more mobility.
I guess it’s true that there should be more dumb female characters as well. The bumbling male fool is a tired trope, but please don’t act like ANet only depicts men as stupid. The guy that leads Tyria to take back Orr and kill Zhaitan is male and not muscled. There ought to be more male humans that aren’t fools nor muscular.
Regarding the Jory and Kas relationship losing flair because all they do is remind you that they have a lesbian couple in the game: what the kitten? Would you be making that same accusation if Kas was a dude? They have a normal, stupid, overly mushy relationship and it has nothing to do with them being lesbians.
That being said, the dialogue could really be written better. Whenever I see their scenes, I just can’t wait for it to be over.
Lastly:
Why cant we have a darker Taimi?
We do. Taimi is so in love with Scarlet’s genius and thinks she can be her protégé without being corrupted by a dragon. Her obsession could lead to her doom.
Why can’t Jory and Kas have relationship problems? They do. Jory is overly protective of Kas and Kas wants to do more for Jory, but the only way she knows how is through money which she no longer has. Or something like that.
Why does Braham have to act like an idiot when he could clearly have some development from some wisdom through Eir.
Because he grew up with his dad and doesn’t like his mom for being off adventuring and not being there to raise him. He’s not a total idiot because he is able to understand Taimi’s technobabble using his own analogies and experiences.
Read the Wind completely obsoletes Eagle Eye as the increased projectile speed makes it so that your attacks can actually travel significantly farther than Eagle Eye’s increased range.
Good lord! I can’t breathe. I laugh every time I see that pic, but this context and what he said were just too perfect.
Referring to PvP mats obviously. I thought someone said they’d look into this as it might be an oversight. Basically…

That’s beautiful. I love that they made it work on mobs too.
Spirit ranger is always in vogue. Here is the other meta build, regen bunker: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDib2vl9fVU
Hi, I’m relatively new to PvP (rank 21) and I’m looking for a secondary guild that focuses on PvP to run teamq’s with. I main bunker ranger and also play mesmer.
I really hope you mention whether or not the UnID dyes offered as compensation for dupes will be account-bound!
I think it would be safe to assume that they will not be as there would then be very little reason to provide the duplicates. That being said though, it’s still a fair question in that could have been easily addressed in their reveal.
I see many opportunities for them to improve on the quality of their communications to the player base. It seems as if they do not have any internal group vet those communications before they are released to the public to ensure they are covering as much as possible and not playing catch up for a week or so with the community and their inevitable questions.
On the contrary, I think it would be safe to assume that they would be account-bound. Especially because dye prices have gone up, ANet is not looking to give players free gold but to assuage those who feel gypped by things becoming account bound. Because they can’t refund you for the 96c or whatever that dye cost, they want to give you another opportunity to gain a dye you didn’t already have.
I would like them to confirm that explicitly however.
I really hope you mention whether or not the UnID dyes offered as compensation for dupes will be account-bound!
With the removal of Dye’s from the random drop table will there be any change to the requirement of 250 dyes for the Gift of Color?
Yes. We just received verification from Dev that we will be reducing the amount of unidentified dyes needed to 100.
How can people get unidentified dyes after the patch? Laurels and gem store? The only Mystic Forge recipe I can see on the wiki is an sPvP recipe (requiring glory), are there other recipes or are they adding new ones do you know?
That’s a good point. There is a decent chance that they will release more mystic forge recipes for them.
I think the people that are planning on selling those UnIDed dyes are going to be disappointed. The purpose of giving an UnID for dupes is to make up for people feeling like they wasted money – not to give players a way to make more money.
Because of this, the compensation UnIDed dyes will most likely be account-bound, just like the ones you acquire in PvP. However, on April 15th, people are going to find themselves identifying a lot of dyes that they’ve already got which will repopulate the inventory of the cheaper dyes which are currently in double-digit silvers.
I don’t know that they will drop back to 96c, but they will most likely be cheap. Particularly the ones that people don’t typically want. The UnIDed dyes that you find in the wild though, will probably remain valuable. After equilibrium is reached, the price will be higher than before, but certainly not 1g.

Thanks to every single one of the Devs. Even those who don’t post on the forums usually transmit information to our known dev-posters to post for them.
Keep up the good work
I miss Jon Peters! Say Hi for us.
Zerg warfare means absolutely nothing. Staff Elementalists are a staple of zergs also. How tough is it to fight them 1v1 or in small man action?
I was talking about actually fighting against a Warrior. A year ago I stopped attacking them unless they attacked me in WvW because I felt bad for them. They were so easy to kill. Now? Not so much.
Except that zerging means everything in WvW. No one cares about roaming or 1v1 fights. That’s what spvp is for.
My bad. I didn’t realize that.
Not in general obviously, but in terms of match ups and winning with superior PPT, roaming and 1v1’s mean nothing. It’s no big mystery why they added an area to BL maps just to give roamers something to do.
Well that is an entirely different debate for another thread. My only point is Warriors are vastly stronger today than they were a year ago. There definitely wasn’t any nerf warrior threads a year ago
I’ve been playing since launch and I distinctly remember the cries for Warrior nerfs about a year ago, but that was a different meta. There was then a short period where Warriors were begging for buffs and now we’re here.
(edit)
Proof: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/warrior/I-wish-they-would-nerf-my-Warrior
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/warrior/Nerf-Warrior-Damage
There’s more if you just google. There has always been a sentiment that Warrior, more than any other class, is the devs’ pet class. Sometimes it wasn’t justified and was just based off of how easy it is to play Warrior, but other times it was called for.
One thing you won’t find much of is “nerf Ranger”.
(edit again)
I didn’t realize you were talking about PvP specifically. Warriors were not OP in PvP a year ago, you’re right.
(edited by blud.8174)
There’s no point complaining. Even if they read this, we won’t see anything done for months based on what Allie said about them waiting for the meta.
The reason I say this is that if you can see this after such a short time of play, they must be well aware of it, but their new philosophy of infrequent balance changes means that this is a futile effort.
I used to be a lot more positive about the game and the devs even when I saw cynics like me and drama queens, but all I’m seeing is too little too late now (a failed/disorganized cdi, devs seeming to play favorites, PR over two-way discourse, etc). Sorry to hijack your post, but I agree and just don’t have any hope for change anytime soon. I’ve been playing ranger since launch and I think I’m just going to give in and roll warrior if I continue to play this game.
InterMUD lol.
Actually Spoj on the contrary, you’re the one that lost any credibility by acting like the difference between scholar runes and Ruby orbs matters in the calculations here.
I think the last official response (over a year ago) was that it would be too memory intensive. I’m quoting someone that quoted the dev so this is a game of telephone, but as much as that doesn’t make sense to me I think that’s the reasoning. Sucks unfortunately.
On a side note, when an expansion finally comes out for this game, I would like to see pets grow older past “juvenile” and maybe get bigger as a result. I want my wolf to be as big as Eir’s wolf, Garm.
Because surely, if I’m to become an adventurer that slays dragons, my pet must be fearsome as well.
I believe this is a bug, or otherwise it’s misleading. For ranger pets that deal condition damage, their tool tips use the ranger’s condition damage to calculate the total damage instead of the pet’s (0 condi damage). This causes confusion for players, especially the ones who don’t do the number crunching themselves when constructing builds.
For example, using 944 Condition Damage:
Juvenile Salamander Drake: Fire Breath: “5xBurning(1s): 2,820 Damage”.
5 x [(944*.25)+328] = 2820.
In fact, the actual damage is: 5x[(0*944)+328] = 1,640 Damage. Which is significantly different!
Juvenile Eagle: Lacerating Slash: “2xBleed(15s): 2,694 damage”.
2x [(.05*944) + 42.5] x 15 = 2,694 Damage.
In actuality, it’s 2 × 42.5 × 15 = 1,275 Damage.
The same is true for poison using Juvenile Whiptail Devourer’s Poison Barbs.
I have not tested this with the Expertise Training trait nor have I tried it with boons like regeneration. With the upcoming GM trait Poison Master, I think adjusting the tooltips would be a really useful quality of life improvement.
Lots of condi cleansing. Strong pet damage, evades, and with a functioning F1,2,3 (Karl said all pet commands actually), pets will be reliable enough to trust with our DPS.
That would be really cool, but it can’t be right because there’s no cooldown on F1 and F3. Unless the trait has an icd which would make it a little less cool.
I mean bloody hell, Simply look at the chat during the Event to see what we’re talking about..Every class was getting “Wow that’s op” spammed down it..Not a single person was like said anything remotely like that during the Ranger ones..Everyone was pretty much like “meh”
because everyone think they are crap to begin with, realized that whatever buffs we got only got us “to the level i imagine my current warrior being at” and then looked at others buffs and went “lulz, but we are still ahead so np np”
oh and bye bye atherakia, skitz and the other haters. Was nice to see you try out the ranger. I’ll still play mine as it will forever be viable for the way i play (havoc/blobbing)
I’m glad that it still works for you, but what about others? Not even being sarcastic: do you believe that the changes we got were fair compared to the other professions? (Interrupt-spamming mesmer, invincible necro, survival thief, spirit-turret engie, etc.)
I’m also expecting a nerf to regen ranger so that we’re further shoehorned into a limited choice of builds. Poison ranger looks interesting, but other professions have/received pretty good active condi cleanse so I’m not confident in the viability of that.
I wouldn’t be so mad if I didn’t care about or have high hopes for this class only to see it repeatedly get the short end of the stick.
(edited by blud.8174)
Eles new traits: 5s blind on burn, 5s weakness on interrupt, immunity to crits while attuned to earth, and boons when struck.
Engie: quickness on knockback, place mines on crit, turrets turn engie into spirit engie, gadgets give boons.
Guardian: retaliation scales with condi damage instead of power, aoe aegis on block (20s cd).
Mesmer: (OP) Enemy skills that you interrupt have increased cd (this trait has no icd so just go ahead and chain those interrupts), gain 3s of distortion on kill (no cd), gain boons for shatter skills [5s fury on daze, 8s regen on distortion], GAIN 1000 HEALING FOR 5S POWER ON INTERRUPT, enemies hit by shatter skills get torment.
Necro: toughness, aoe heals and even harder to kill in death shroud.
Thief: Gain 200 power on reveal (gg Sic ’Em), STEALTH = 50% damage reduction and not just for you, stealing gives 5 stacks of confusion for 5s.
Warrior: Burst skills have 100% increased chance to crit, GAIN 1000 TOUGHNESS WHEN YOU BREAK OUT OF A STUN FOR 4S, When you grant might you give it to allies also (!!)
And now for Rangers:
Longbow and Harpoon Gun velocity increased by 100%, 15% chance to block ranged attacks while in melee, poison you apply deals 50% extra damage and poison your pet’s first attack on swap, remove 2 condis and gain fury when you use a survival skill (lightning reflexes breaks immob and keen edges also is affected by this), Your pet does aoe heal on F2.
Where the kitten is the love?
Note that even now, not a single dev has come to discuss what they envision for the class.
Am I really overreacting? Is this not bullkitten?
:( I give up. I kept persisting with hope after all the crappy patches (Aquaman ftw), but not anymore.
The changes aren’t bad, except when you look at what every other class is getting you see how weak these changes are. Just reroll another class guys.
This feels like I’m getting hustled.
At least make the thing a major trait. It would only make sense if they really buffed longbow’s damage because as it is, my autoattack pales in comparison to other classes’ autoattacks.
The most frustrating thing is that they could have discussed this in the CDI and received feedback or something (because I really wonder if any of the balance team seriously plays ranger enough to have an idea of what the player who mains ranger experiences.)
Okay so I’ve done some critical thinking and looked at the other profession forums and this is what I’ve found:
It must be awful to be a dev reading reactions after a release like this. Nearly every forum feels that their new GM trait is lackluster, that it’s in the wrong trait line, and that no one at anet must play their class.
The notable exceptions are thieves and mesmers who are more satisfied than the others with their new GM trait. Also found that 4 of the classes had jokes about the ranger on the first page.
How I feel now : Shooting projectiles from long range gives you some defense against harsh melee attacks, but that should come with a cost. Correct me if I’m wrong, but similar projectile attacks on other classes are also vulnerable to strafing. I still feel that it is too little for a GM trait (combine it with Eagle eye please) but here’s the thing: like Allie said, our thing should be masters of sustained damage (burst is dodgeable, but persistent attacks can wreak havoc).
So one scenario I think this would be useful is when you have an opponent that you’ve almost downed when they start to run away. Normally they’d be able to dodge through your rapid fire for example, but this way the foe will be increasing damage to themselves by adding range to our autoattack and he’ll more likely take that damage too.
I am being a positive optimist. Besides, you wouldn’t show your best hand first and then reveal the lesser ones so maybe it’s worth waiting to see.
P. S. Go watch the anet zerg in EOTM from two ready ups ago. There’s only one ranger amongst them and he’s running hyena.
This is kinda bonkers.
Hunting traits in PvE is a great idea and contributes to the feel of heroic progression. PvP is a different species altogether and many PvPers won’t do PvE/WvW at all. I really hope there has been some kind of mistake because this does not bode well for ANet.
To be honest, if the rest of the traits we get new are like that… I mean, what the actual kitten. A grandmaster trait for something that should already work from the beginning? You don’t even need to dodge, simple sidestepping and you’re safe… For what does the longbow has this much range if it won’t work. Welcome to the ranger. When I look at the mesmer’s one, I’d like to puke. "The new trait for mesmers allows them to gain additional benefit when disrupting enemy skills. Power Block will be introduced to the Domination line and will change the recharge of an interrupted skill from 5 seconds to 10 seconds. "
This! I was beginning to think I was crazy because this is so baffling.
This feels like I’m getting hustled. Like I just bought a new vacuum cleaner that only turns on half the time and when I call customer support they say, “We have a fix for it, but in order to receive it, we need you to send us your favorite pet kitten.”
(…)
That’s why I would like to just make 1 thread at a time, 1 week at a time, 1 topic at a time, and gather everyone’s opinions in one place for each different aspect of the Ranger, no matter who is giving the opinion. An outsider/inexperienced perspective isn’t going to be as good as an insider/experienced perspective, but, the way other professions see the Ranger is still valuable. The need to summarize the threads is important though, and its something that none of us were willing to do with the Ranger CDI…If we can summarize all the posts into an easy to read format like what people did early on to some of the other CDI threads, I think it just might work.
THIS! For the love of god, this! I am of the firm belief that one reason for the derailment of the conversation was the (as the SOTC guys called it) “wannabe game devs” posting their entire redo of the class. Every weapon skill. Every trait. In back to back posts. (I’m looking at you Orpheal.8263 and friends.)
The CDI concept is new so I hope they’ve learned from it, but it should have been more directed just like how you’ve suggested. I am most worried that Allie will be so discouraged as to not give this a second, better shot.
Omadd never went into the isolation chamber, y’know.
And even then, did Mordremoth chose Scarlet? Was it an active choice of being Scarlet or was it a “anyone will do” case? Or was it pure coincidence?
The answer to that may lie in the fact that Scarlet brought something into the isolation chamber. Either she had an inherent link or susceptibility to the dragon (or pro-dragon entity) or whatever she brought into the chamber allowed for her to become influenced. I think that is the key difference between Omadd and Scarlet entering the machine.
Y’know, the aftermath dialogue kind of hints that Scarlet was not corrupted.
In the instance, it’s talked about Scarlet redirecting the ley lines to multiple dragons. Not just one.
So it may be that she was out to empower multiple dragons – perhaps for the same reason she let Thaumanova blow up. She wanted to watch what happened, and learn from it.
But that ignores the fact that Scarlet was led to do what she did under the influence of someone/something. It’s clear in the breachmaker that her aim was to bring forth Tyria’s new master. It’s possible that she redirected the ley lines to all the dragons, but I would say that her focus was on one.
My take on that part of the instance was that the breachmaker disturbed the ley lines and a consequence of that was that it sent magic surges to the elder dragons.

Proposal Overview
Reverse the leaps on Ranger Sword Skill #2
Goal of Proposal
Currently the Ranger sword skill #2 leaps backwards and then forwards, the goal of the proposal would be to make the sword first leap forwards and then backwards
Proposal Functionality
Currently the sword 2 leap feels kind of wonky and useless in most situations. It’s alright because of the hard evade on it and the distance generation of the initial leap, but reversing the leaps would improve fluidity of gameplay. For example, with my proposal you could do combos like this:
Sword 2 to leap into the fight, Sword 3 to poison, Torch 5 for burning field, Sword 3 to leap out of burning field, swap to longbow or shortbow now at range.
Associated Risks
Not much, I’d say that the evade on Sword 2 could be removed if this was implemented, but keep the cripple and leap finisher. This isn’t the first time I’ve seen this idea. I am strongly opposed to it.
The argument is that the current leap order is useless in most situations. My argument would be that in fact, this would at best result in the same feeling in most situations and at worst, be even worse.
It’s highly impractical outside of things like PvP where you want to chase someone. I would be open to considering this for PvP-only, but even then…what do you do when you’re already face-to-face with your foe and they’re landing massive damage and AoE on you? You leap forward to take more damage?
We already have serpent’s strike and stalkers strike that both function better as dodges. We need a gap closer on the sword.
The best option would be to reverse the order and then remove the time limit on the second skill. You can close the gap at the start and hit some nice damage and then you have a retreat skill in reserve if you need it since we don’t need to spam gap closers with the cripple on the auto.
It gives us the best of both without any sacrifice.
Well, here’s an alternative. When out of combat, the #2 remains a leap-in. If the ranger hasn’t already used the skill and is in combat, then it changes into a leap-out first. I think everyone could be happy that way. Because after all, currently the #2 is essentially nonfunctional if you haven’t already entered combat.

Proposal Overview
Improve Pet-Ranger synergy so that it feels like the pet is fighting alongside you and not just a buggy party member, by making the pet deliberately utilize the Ranger’s CC’s and combo fields.
I am not a programmer and I don’t understand the difficulty in implementing this, but I think it’s really worth considering.
Goal of Proposal
-Improving the pet AI
-Making the pet work alongside the ranger instead of two independent fighters
-Make people feel that having pets is better than permastow
Proposal Functionality
Earlier today I was fighting against a horde of risen and while I do fine dps-wise, they were doing a ton of damage. So I put down Healing Spring and my drake immediately does its blast finisher and heals me up. It felt like my pet and I were working together and I think achieving more situations like this would make the class shine.
Again, I’m not a programmer. However, I think based on the combat situation, the pet could prioritize certain skills in its queue.
If both my pet and I are fighting the same opponent and I put down a field, it could use its blast/leap/projectile through it asap.
If I use an evade skill like sword #2 or shortbow #3, my pet (if it has it in its repertoire) could use its immobilize on my foe.
If I’ve immobilized my foe, then my pet could prioritize a high-damage, long-cast-time skill like the Lynx’s Rending Pounce.
Associated Risks
A considerable amount of development hours could be necessary. It may not be computationally feasible. It might make other classes feel disadvantaged.
I would be very pleased if only to receive feedback on this idea from others. My goal is to make people want to have a pet and to make the class feel more like what I think ANet’s goal seems to be. Perhaps there are better combos others could come up with.

Mordremoth was the sixth Elder Dragon, the only one not awake yet. And only one that could have been in the Maguuma Jungle.
What we saw in the end cinematic looks to be traveling in the direction of the Maguuma Jungle, so possibly Mordremoth.
It’s more specific than that.
You pass through Kryta (Kessex Hills/the area between Kessex and LA); you see Thaumanova (with its pillar of light even – now revealed as a breach in the ley line given it is the same color and glows as t he cracks pass through), and passes through an arid wasteland (Dry Top? Ettin’s Back?), into lush areas again.
Following the line, he’s in or past The Falls of GW1. In Magus Falls by GW2 terminology.
I think it’s most likely Reed Bog rather than Magus Falls since the latter looks much duller: http://prntscr.com/2yay0r
Also, I might be looking too closely, but it looks like this object that appears immediately before we see the dragon’s mouth is manmade: http://prntscr.com/2yayq8

- We want to fix issues with the pet AI and general usability before we consider doing something to this extent.
We acknowledged that Pet AI does need help, but we did not say we would not be doing this. You will see some changes in the coming feature patch that should help with the pet’s usability. I am one of the few who really want to keep the pet. We are, as a community, really crossing our fingers that the team will overhaul the pet.
This applies to WvW and PvE
Things to consider about the pet:
- If the pet could move while attacking, this would fix 99% of our “lost” DPS.- The pet’s F2 needs to be more responsive (saw you were looking into that).
- We need a way to revive our pet (make it so only the owner can revive his own pet, and it provides no exp reward, therefore this mechanic will not be exploited or used to disrupt other players.
- The pet needs to be able to dodge roll with us or actively avoid AOE (red circles).
- Would be nice if the pet could “float” up to us when we jump up small ledges.
- The pet needs to stay nearer to us when it is on “passive”. The pet still runs 10+ feet ahead right into AOE, where if it were next to me, it would not be inside of AOE circles.
Ranger Survivability
Is there any way we can have our endurance regeneration reverted back to 50% again? This was one of the few things we had in our trait lines that made up for what the rest of the ranger traits didn’t. Lack of good condition removal? Not a problem because we could dodge roll with the 50% endurance regeneration trait and avoid conditions before they were applied to us. Now we only have 25% endurance regeneration and still no condition removal that isn’t tied to the pet being alive. Really sucks if you’re a shout ranger, where most of the shouts aim to kill your pet off in your stead, and it comes back later to stab you in the back when you can’t get rid of conditions.
Hold up. The conversation is really getting skewed here.
I have no idea how you guys play or if this is a result of a game of telephone where someone started saying that Ranger pets have hidden code that causes them to insta-die and now that’s your whole opinion of them, but pets are NOT that catastrophic. And it is NOT the majority of us that want permastow and to turn the class into a marksman-only-profession and I would like it if y’all quit claiming that.
The feature patch will include a responsiveness update so we’ve really got to wait and see what that means. Instead of trying to turn the Ranger into a marksman-only class, we should be proposing solutions to keeping the pet alive when exposed to AoE and being able to hit the target.
Specific Game Mode
PvX but you could roll it out to PvP first to test.
Proposal Overview
Consolidating the Rangers F1 and F3 slots to free up a second skill for the pet.
Goal of Proposal
The primary goal of this is to satisfy the users who wish to have more control over the pet while also not overwhelming new players. Having to only worry about 1 more skill would not necessarily result in micromanagement. As it is currently, the F3 key’s function a less than optimal use of space.
The ultimate goal for the class seems to be one where the Ranger can do their own thing while the pet acts independently. Ideally, the pet would act intelligently and know which skill to use and when, but the current system of queued skills not only undermines Ranger-Pet synergy
Proposal Functionality
I think we could change the pet skill bar and make it so that #1 Attack turns into #3 Return when the game detects that the pet has entered or is going to enter combat. This way, we could free up the F3 for a second skill slot from the pet’s species.
Examples:
Bears: F3: Defy Pain
Devourers: F3: Tail Lash
Alternatively, we might be able to come up with skills for each pet family that allow for slightly passive play. e.g. a buff or a debuff. The Juvenile Murellow’s ‘Poison Butt’ would be a good example of this.
Associated Risks
The most obvious risk is that this might result in too much micromanagement that could impact the overall gameplay/feel of this class.
There is also the worry of it being intimidating to new players. However, I think the way the Engineer’s kits change the F1-4 skills is not so different from the learning curve this would require.
You know full well what I meant :P
I didn’t play GW1 so I’m not that familiar with Anet’s storytelling abilities. I certainly found the LS much more entertaining and involved than the personal story. So many missions in the latter 2/3 of the personal story seemed contrived and uninteresting.
I hope as we’re (I’m) tearfully giving Scarlet the final blow, she reaches up pointing towards your heart and says, “I’ll always be right here.”
