I can beat a warrior without plague signet. Btw you don’t understand how plague signet works. It actively sends conditions from the necro, so there is a choice being made.

Honestly you need to be asking for buffs to your class, not a nerf to random skill that isn’t even ran half the time.

Unfortunately that’s how the system works. You’re a relatively “new” pvper in the scheme of things and you’re facing high MMR teams that are just getting through the ranks.

Fishball is correct most of them wouldn’t be playing at the time. You really are kinda between timezones.

@phaeton, that may be true but saying that not a single person has gotten unlucky is extremely improbable. However that’s why I have been asking questions.

Ah well that explains the amber. Premades take the highest division to determine matchmaking. That way groups can’t pull easier match by having one friend with a low division.

I would disagree that the bulk is sapphire, that’s dependent on your map instance. I know several people who haven’t even started playing this season along with several people in amber because they don’t have as much time to play. That along with the handful in diamond and couple hundred in ruby I think waiting is still viable, like I said I did it and it make ruby easier. Many people could also be waiting out the initial cluster kitten.

Edit: emerald and sapph have the potential to be worse than Amber IMO because there will be less new players for you to get matched against and more high end player who are just cruising through to ruby

To the people who go on these long loss streaks:

Are they all from the same session?
Are you getting the same teammates and/or opponents?
If so maybe end your pvp for that day.

If not maybe wait for a day or two. I know this has been suggested, but when I first started off in ruby last week I was having some trouble getting going, I kept playing against some FF people and got super tilty and knew I needed a fairly good break. This was after my 4th loss in a row mind you.

Another suggestion just in general for pvp, do you have an incoming damage tab?
I find the most effective ways to train people in wvw is for the to understand what is hitting them so hard and what it looks like. This will help your 1v1 and 2v2 ability immensely.

And again back to some of those skills I mentioned, they are important and they do make a difference if you do them correctly. If a rev misses his staff 5 on people rezzing that can be a fight lost. If I chill to the bone a group with stability they’re probably laughing at me. And yes this only makes a difference at higher level play.

I’ll be honest it sounds more like you’re just kinda done and bored with GW2, which is cool, but that’s your subjective opinion. Now if randoms were just rolling into ESL tourneys and beating pro teams I’d be more inclined to agree on some points.

Mobas would be very similar in that regard, IMO they are. While they take much more mechanical skill due to skill shots and such. You still are going to use your abilities on the focus target (adc or whatever). Again you’re right Gw2 doesn’t have a lot of tactical depth but no competitive game really does, other than something like Starcraft 2.

Most tactical games require planning, predict enemies and trying to counter while trying conceal your strategy. It’s more of a mind game than a action one. While mobas, mmos, and fps lie on the other side of the spectrum.

MMR snowballing

While in some cases MMR may fluctuate that much, you will eventually get to a point where you can 1v2, 1v3, 1v4, and if you get low enough 1v5. The same goes for higher MMR, you will reach a point where you will become a detriment to your team if you don’t belong at their MMR.

So are we talking about tactical depth or mechanical skill? Because they are two very different things. GW1 still had people using the best skills available.

Yes GW2 has several low cd skills that could be called “spam able” but they are low impact that add up in combination with each other. Skills like search and reduce, chilled to the bone, slick shoes, wash the pain away are all very high impact skills that can turn the tide of the fight.

Do things need to be balanced? Of course, no pvp game had perfect balance. But it’s not completely braindead, you have to have quick reaction time and knowledge of other classes.

claytonmorby.3751

Yeah again though those are different games. Mobas still even have a bit of CD management. Fps IMO is much more quick reaction and hand and eye precision.

The fact is when you break any game down and strip away that much it’s easy to talk about the lack of depth. And that’s just down to the fact that we’re all just pressing 10-14 keys on a keyboard. :p

No I completely agree that it sucks and needs a solution, sorry for being a kitten just my natural state.

I took a break for a day and because it was the same exact 10-12 people for like 12 straight matches in ruby. I think what this season clearly shows is that the divisions themselves need to be reworked. The population can’t support the number of divisions and tiers to have good matchmaking. Also if people like us are on a 12+ game win streak, then kitten maybe we should skip emerald and sapphire. But oh wait that can’t happen cause anet made a hybrid reward track/league instead of a true competitive ladder :p

That being said your argument is kinda self defeating man. You are clearly one of the top players in the game and if you’re playing more than euratien, Chaith, etc. there’s not gonna be that many people left for you to play. I mean unless the game pulls people like that from ruby you’re just going to slaughter them.

What Teutos said. Let me try to break it down theoretically.

Team 1 has Chaith and Toker (2 pro league players) que up for their first match of the season. They have extremely high MMR so they are teamed with similar people. However they are Amber 0 so that determines the team they are matched against.

Team 2 has Ned the Noob who is playing his 20th pvp match and wants to try ranked. This team 2 is formed with people similar to ned the noob.

Obviously Chaith and co win handily and move on.

Now there are 100s of high end players who will end up on team 1 and will quickly climb up. Once they are high enough team 1 will only face teams that are similar to them.

Team 2 has the same chance of fighting another team 1 until the high end players move up. So in some cases people in team 2s MMR rating might be stuck for a while.

Really sucky how it punishes one group of players, kinda the opposite of last season.

Also win rate is an average. The opponent you face might have only 47% but still be a much better player.

@sviel

I agree with a lot of your post but I think you may of misinterpreted what I was saying. If a group is throwing down 2 catas + shield gens then yes if only 2 or 3 people are defending the group should definitely take the keep. I believe that is a proper situation in the game mode.

I believe this may be where you and I disagree. Attacking an objective IMO is to draw an enemy to you, to draw them into a fight. I don’t think it should be siege v siege to determine the fate of a large objective. I can understand smaller towers but a t3 keeps fate shouldn’t be the hands of just a few defenders soley. Supply traps, siege disables, destroying siege with ACs, these are just methods to stall. You’re right the enemy can run back and get more supply. But you can run yaks into the keep. You can call a group from another BL to come help. This happened at the beginning of the game but isn’t seen too much now; however, I believe that is the defense style the wvw should follow. Sorry if I’m not too clear in my opinions.

Nikola your performance last season has almost no bearing on this season. You’re rolling against high end players just starting out, so yes you will see more losses. The high end players will move out quick and you’ll be able to be more effective in your matches.

As someone who’s in emerald already and had a very streaky day, I can tell you that matchmaking is almost entirely pip based. In my last 3 matches of the day it included about 15 different people just mixed and matched, including Chaith, Phataram, and Mooncow and others. I’m sure if I had continued queing I still would have been facing them since at the time there were only a handful of emeralds.

The start of this season is like a marathon race if they didn’t seperste into pace groups and had everyone start at once. You’ll have the triathletes literally running into people trying to get up to the front.

As I’ve said in different posts I wish we could’ve had placement matches, the system is nice for high end players but very un fun for new ones :/

MMR doesn’t affect matchmaking like it used to, that’s why people are seeing more losses, you’re playing with people from all skill levels. It doesn’t matter what division you hit last season. That completely destroys the point of divisions. Why should a higher skilled player have to work harder than a low one to get out of amber? Divisions are meant to be a ranking system, not a reward track. Again if you aren’t an A or a B, you might want to wait till there are Cs and Ds mostly filling the low divisions. Does it suck for new/casual players? Of course, that’s why LoL has promo matches so players are put at different levels at the start of the season so diamond level players aren’t playing bronze.

Shield generators were mentioned, if an enemy group is throwing down multiple catas and a shield gen then they are putting well over 150 supply into attacking, meaning they have a decent sized group that are all building when the commander asks. Why should one single person in a keep be able to hold them off indefinitely? While realistically it may make sense, from a gameplay perspective that is simply giving too much power to 1 player and encourages more blobbing.

Time to build was also mentioned. Siege is meant to be placed beforehand, not as a reactionary measure. That’s why during tournaments people were paid to sit in towers and keeps building and refreshing siege. I’ll definitely agree that commitment like that is unreasonable with population levels at what they are.

The fact is that anet can’t balance defense around 2 or 3 people in an objective when potentially 40 people can be defending it.
I do agree with the OP about uncounter able siege, but that goes for defensive siege as well. I do think that defending is easier than people say, it just takes scouting and preparation which many people find tedious and boring.

Or… Wait for it…. Build a ballista.

A single defender can deter a group of 20, 3 or 4 defenders can stop a large group if they know what they’re doing.

Think outside of siege besides Arrow Carts. Ballistas, shield gens, counter catas and trebs are needed as well if you want a full defense.

in Necromancer

Posted by: claytonmorby.3751

claytonmorby.3751

If you’re hitting people that hard then they aren’t wearing the right gear to be melee… Several frontline builds can reach nearly 80% damage reduction with protection and food…

Edit:
I’ll contribute to the OP as well though. There are only a few classes that have block in their normal builds, guardian, warrior, and chrono. Yes I know rev has one and thief as well souls marks performs best against the former 3, particularly Dragonhunter and warrior.

Now just because it performs well against certain classes does it mean it’s OP? No certainly not. Camping staff just so you can hit through blocks will not win you a fight. If you’re running things like Corrupt Boon or Signets, you usually need those to hit in order to win, along with some reaper shroud skills. If you every kill someone with solely a staff and nothing else, they really don’t know what’s going on.

in Necromancer

If you want a defensive reaper swapping spite for death magic could probably work. I’d still run condi though, since that will out perform power over a longer engagement. Don’t underestimate the stacking buff you get on the GM Death magic trait. With no signets I’d throw in corrupt boon, rise, and spectral armor.

Now is a build like completely viable? Of course. So many “bad” builds can be run well, it usually just involves more precise play. The OP and meta builds are pretty easy to determine.

PS
You could maybe even drop reaper and throw in curses for the weakness traits. CPC is great point contro.

I’ve run green circle duty and never not been able to keep hitting vale guard. If you’re getting close to dying that has nothing to do with your build, that’s a mechanics and group issue. As for the bleed and torment I assume you mean from deathshroud? You lose bleed stacks for the torment and you can’t just dark path if you’re doing circle duty. I think you underestimate how much your bleed and poison stacks can do over a long period of time. You might see bigger burn numbers briefly but your main stacks will suffer.

The damage in a condi build comes from scepter, if you autoing in reaper shroud or death shroud you are losing damage.
