Yeah it’kitten or miss for people. If you love necro like me and other people here we really got it good with reaper. The spec alone has tinted my view of the expansion even though some of the content isn’t stellar.

This has been discussed a lot and the consensus is divided between the two. Honestly IMO in both pve and pvp there are better elites to take.

If this is for pve then it depends on the situation. You definitely need curses and reaper. Soul reaping is good for fractals, where mobs die quick enough for Reaper Shroud 1 to be effective. In raids though I like taking curses/blood magic/reaper to give my group better life sustain while saving downed people with the transfusion trait

I know this can in no way replace a balance patch, and some things in the game need it, but I feel like if teams were limited to just one class we would see and better and more balanced comp. (eg. Dealing with one bunker mes can be tough, but 2 makes it just ridiculous).

At least apply this to ranked and pro league where we are seeing all these cheesy class stacking comps happening. Hell at least apply the 2 class rule to ranked. I know this will affect que times, but this game can’t be taken seriously as an esport when people are queing with 3 or 4 mesmers while the pro league is using only 3 different classes.

The point of cele build is to be more durable and to play around bunker eles and malyx revs that resist your condis. Thus dagger is much more important than scepter. The number of games where dagger direct damage made the difference in killing an ele in a group fight is in the double digits.

You’ll be getting bleed and poison from staff with more poison from reaper shroud. Corrupt boon hasn’t been run since the change to signets corrupting. Corrupt boon has a pretty long CD and cast time, and now a days people aren’t running a lot of long duration different boons, just a few ones that can be applied very often.

I just switched from viper/scepter/durability to cele/dagger/durability and have had much greater success. Like others have stated the cele build plays around malyx and DS eles, a hard counter to condi necro

Hm I agree it would be nice, but I don’t think you can compare proofs to tomes. I think tomes were given so anet could encourage pvp players to venture out into pve after the initial starter zones had cleared out after the first couple of years.

Edit: Actually I take it back, I do NOT want it. That would mean pve players coming in just to farm them and not actually play.

Yeah man 60% with that many games is good, and it’s gonna be tough to maintain. If you watch any of the pro streamers they usually try to que with a friend so they don’t have to carry by themselves.

How many matches have you played? MMR takes a long time to set in, with a 60% win rate I assume you haven’t played that much. The game will try to lower you to 50% so expect to have tougher matches with less experienced teammates.

Why should I put in the effort to play if I get crashed by bugs still in this game? My team can be 3 capped, with myself leading in every stat category, with 20 points left to earn in the game and the I get D/Ced. Not only do I not get credit for a win, I get a 15 minute dishonored debuff. The games aren’t even that long, why I should bother logging in if I’m getting harshly punished for Anet’s mistakes?

Yeah, great player community already exploiting this. The group would literally clear anyone attacking so the keep wouldn’t be contested and came back to farm the waypoint. People coming in from other maps didnt even realize.

You’re exactly right Labjax, there isn’t a really good indication to point new pvpers in the right direction. Hopefully with leagues and matchmaking changes that should get fixed.

Some advice I would give is just let people on your team know at the start of a match that you’re new and still learning. With matchmaking being kitten, most veteran players understand that new people are trying their hardest and that can’t help that they got put against dragons as a rabbit.

The problem with Hammer in my opinion is that with trait changes, balance changes, new specializations, etc… some professions get an edge over others. If a ranger has push, taunt, fear, immoblize, it can be very difficult for some to deal with. On the other side of that, professions like mesmer don’t have as much CC and stability, so right away it feels like there is a distinct mechanic gap.

I’m going to start posting my warrior damage on forums and say look it’s OP.
(And no i don’t main warrior , i play terror necromancer and soldier engineer).

The fact is only 2 classes have easy acces to burnstacking in a more or less reliable way (ad ranger if you stay in bonfire.).

1) Guard is a high burst burn potential , with low mobility , great at +1 and doing ok in duels (It got counters). Their skills are huge telegraphs and you should be able to skillfully dodge most of their incoming burning damage burst , in team fights the burning + cover conditions + the stunts however is doing incredible damage and can’t be cleansed with ease on your own but that’s what your support role classes are for bunker guard / shout bow / cele ele / … can negate all forms of condition damage from their team mates using their cleansing skills at the right moment.

2) Engineer has a high burn burst potential , having decent mobility , behing good at +1 , it’s verry easy to counter in duel situations. It’s weak to CC , focus fire and to condition it self. In team fights they are easy to take down with coordinated burst , their low hp pool is realy suffering by any condition AoE application , Their burst can be hard do deal with on your own in team fights , but again that’s the role of your support players to cleanse you.

The only burning skill you can skillfully dodge from a Guardian is Zealot’s Fire projectile, rest are all instant cast and rely on prediction/luck and the Guardian has the advantage of being the one being able to skillfully land the hit guaranteed. Those counters to Engineer are hilarious because that’s the counter to everything, should have been more specific and said take his health down to 0.

Zealot’s Flame and Purging Flames can both easily be dodged. They’re both incredibly slow attacks and incredibly telegraphed. They also happen to be the bread and butter of the burn guard’s damage output. If you can dodge those two skills (and any average player can) you should be fine. All the other sources of burning that the guardian has hardly do any real damage.

All you people complaining about burn guard really need to learn 2 play. Any slightly-above average player should have no trouble dealing with a burn guard, unless you’re on a PU shatter mesmer or a thief, those are the only classes that will have some trouble dealing with a burn guard, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Yeah Burn Guardians are so easy, just dodge every single basic thing they do that easily do more than a Zerker Hundred Blades.

Pretty sure 3-4 stacks of burning don’t do more than 100 blades…

If you have more than that, not much anyone can do for you there, either bring counters or continue to get steamrolled since you can’t dodge or rotate. The only class I get high burn stacks on is my necro because I’m pulling it from my teammates.

Thief is not going to beat any guardian in a 1v1 imo. It’s just not the way the game is designed, and I think that is ok. I do think thief is extremely weak and needs something to help its current players.

But nerfing burning will not solve those problems.

I never understood why you would get punished with Dishonorable for leaving a match or why you can’t just exit a match you’ve already entered anyway. I honestly do not give a flying fart that people think you’re a jerk for leaving a match. It is incredibly stupid that you’re forced to stay for the entire duration once you’ve Q’d and that no one can replace you if you leave and it truly makes me hate PvP in this game. If someone leaves my team, or if I leave a team, that person should be replaced with someone else. Maybe even have an option on whether or not you can Q for matches that have already started. For example, you can check a box that says when you Q for a PvP match you have a chance to replace someone who has left theirs (entering a match already in progress).

I don’t know, I just think that being forced to stay in a match or being shamed for leaving one is a really stupid feature. Sometimes things come up IRL, some of us don’t care to endure a crappy match, etc.

While im fully aware this is a flamebait post…

So since you dont want “endure” your crappy match someone else has to take your spot… to finish a game that was partiallly made crappy by you in the first place?

In fact i think penalties for leaving arent harsh enough. Imo they should suspend your account from playing rated games for 2 weeks if you afk/leave more than 2-3 times within a few days. Those 2 weeks should apply to actual days you are online aswell. So no “i am on holiday the next 2 weeks anyway”.

Dont get me wrong at times (like yesterday) im forced to leave aswell due to real life responsibilities (or a gf pulling the pc plug in this case). But it should be super rare. If its not players leave non stop…. 1v1 lost? leave….small skirmish lost? leave…one person not having the right build? leave etc etc

Or maybe… It’s a video game? And the PvP community is actually laughably pathetic for how seriously they take it.

Gw2 is the first game I’ve played where you can’t just opt out of a match once you’ve entered. I’m sorry but I just think it’s a really terrible design and the kind of attitude it breeds is exactly the kind you’re giving me.

Unless I’m getting f_cking paid to endure the 14 year olds screaming in map at each other and emoting at peoples corpses every match I’ll leave if I want to. PvP is no different than the rest of the game, it’s supposed to be fun not a job. I’m not a major league gamer and I won’t humor a match if it’s not worth my time.

Oh, I’m wasting other peoples time by leaving matches you say? Guess what, I’m more important than they are because I come before a complete stranger. I should be replaced if I leave a match instead of punished for leaving and not replaced which also punishes the people who stay. No body wins with the current system.

Except for the people who stay and try to win a match. You get rewards for losing, maybe your ego doesn’t. If it’s just a video game why don’t you just go play hot joins? You can leave whenever you want in those.

3 Necros on team = win

Necros IMO are easy to learn, hard to master. They have a LOT of condi clear and are quite tanky while putting out a decent amount of damage. At lower skill levels they are great at most 1v1s and stalling for days, so that their TEAM can arrive.

Necro thrives in pugs because in pugs there is less focus and teamwork, which is the exact thing needed to lock down and crush a necro. I just faced a three necro team, and yes it was difficult at first, but we regrouped and started working together and their comp fell apart.

As far a thief v necro goes, in sPvP I give the advantage to necro, simply because they have better point control and sustain. I would go as far as to say they counter thieves.

I’ll repeat what many people have said on here before, if you’re struggling against a profession, go and play it and learn its timings and weak points.

Actually the character you do it on doesn’t matter, it’s just a bug from ANET once again. Hoping the expansion won’t be as low quality as these 2 week content updates.
