Engineer or Warrior?

Go warrior.

He has traits that support both the Longbow(you’ll want it for AOE)and the Rifle, which work well together for the longrange sniping gameplay you want. Also, while I don’t have screenshots, Heavy armor is pretty varied and should allow you to find some decent “sniper” armors. (In particular, the HoW armor is nice)

Trait lines you’d want to focus on for warrior are the Precision and Vitality Trees. Precision has a trait that makes rifle shots pierce (!!!) and reduces their cooldowns by 20%. The vitality tree has skills that make your longbows shoot from further away, and do more damage to bleeding targets (And rifles inflict bleed. how…. curious.) From there you can put more points into power for a direct-damage build, or go condition damage to facilitate the burning/bleeding that the rifle/bow does. It’s really up to you at that point.

Basically, what I’m sayin’ is, if you want to be a Sniper, go Warrior.

I don’t know if you’re just looking in the wrong places, or if my server is really good at those things, but Northern Shiverpeaks does all of those things.

There are only 2 cases where PvE Content isn’t being completed: When it’s bugged, or when it’s in Malchors leap. Because kitten the Colonnade. I spent an hour there trying to clear that out with a few of my buddies once. Hate that event.

I’ve never had to wait more than 15 minutes to find a dungeon group. If I want to run a dungeon, I’m confident that I can run a dungeon whenever I want.

I see guilds in WvW regularly. They’re not… obvious or anything. But groups of 5-6 people running a particular direction, all with the same tag? Yea…. Also guild advertising and whatnot. But we’re not higher ranked in terms of WvW by any means.

So yea, I don’t know if NS is right for you, but we meet your criteria.

Collecting minis

Buy them all off the TP. Don’t convert your gold to Gems. For one, the price on gold→Gem conversions is way up. For two, it’s not worth it.

Blue’s are worth about 10 silver atm, with greens at 30 silver. That means you get 50 silver worth of minis per pack at base. If you get a rare mini, you’ve made about 2-3 gold, which can pay for the price of the pack, but only if you get a rare. And that’s, as you might expect, rare.

Buy them all off of the TP. And buy them fast, the prices have been steadily rising for the past month or so and don’t show any signs of stopping.

Also: collecting the whole set is going to be next to impossible. Some of the exotics are worth over 100 gold by this point.

upgrading mad memories and other back slot items

As far as I know, there’s a small bug with the mad memories (the blue one) and the low level back item you get from your personal story, where you can only upgrade them with tier 1 gems. That’s the best you can do there.

If you want a better back item, your options are to get the Mad Memories: Complete edition(Green) It’s equivilent to a level 80 green back item, and should be upgradeable with any gem you want.

If you want even better, you can complete your personal story quests. The second to last mission will reward you with a level 80 Back with stats of your choosing (well, you get to choose between 3.) It will also come with an exotic jewel already in it, saving you the cost of getting one yourself.

And then finally, the Best In Slot back items, are the guild backpacks for 5 gold.

You should be able to transmute the book to the reward you got from your personal story if you want to keep the looks.

Second Class

I main a Thief.

Thieves are awesome. We can do a surprisingly large number of things. Condition damage? Check. Power/precision? Checkeroo! You wanna live? We’re good at that!

Thieves are versitile and can fit a LOT of playstyles. The only ones they suffer at is Ranged DPS and Support.

That’s not to say they don’t have options! Pistols can be useful, and the shortbow can help the team out, but at the end of the day There’s nothing you can do that an Elementalist/Ranger couldn’t do better. At least, in The Ranged DPS/Support roles.

The one thing I dislike about the class is actually a side effect of it’s utility. I currently run 3 different armor sets, ankittenhinking about picking up a 4th. I respec my traits about once a week or so depending on my mood, and once I get the dagger skin I want, I’ll have the tough decision of which dagger I actually want to put it on!!!

But yea, Thieves are awesome.

If the only thing you don’t like about Mesmer is it’s damage output, then go with mesmer. Skilled play can make up for that easily. It REQUIRES skilled play, so you’ll have to get good, but that’s a thing you can do.

No amount of practice is gonna let an elementalist wield a greatsword, sadly.

No-one to do events with :(

codingCaptor.9428

To tell what server you’re on, you can hit the B button. This will bring up the WvW menu. Your home server will be the one with the house next to it.

As for people to do events with…. Unfortunatly a lot of people have moved out of the starting areas and spend most of their time in the high level zones (or doing WvW, or crafting, or…. well, you get the idea.) There are still a handful of people running around in those areas (likely finishing up their world completion, or other new players) But they’ll be few and far between.

I’d recommend asking in map chat if anyone wants to group up to do anything. Or announcing that there is an event going on at a certain location. Events are good income, Even for higher level players (The Karma is where it’s at.) So that will most certainly draw more people to help out.

It’s also worth noting that some events you just won’t be able to do by yourself (or even with a small group) and you should avoid. Generally, anything that has a champion mob in it is best left alone. There are probably some kind of special rewards or DE chain that go along with that champion, but trying to down a champion by yourself is just asking to foot a large repair bill.

Also, to make money? Sell some of your crafting supplies at the trading post. Wood/Copper still fetch a pretty decent price on the Trading post, and regardless of what professions you have there’s bound to be one or two kinds of crafting supplies that you don’t need right now.

Cheapest crafting profession?

codingCaptor.9428

The lower levels of jewelcrafting are really easy to level. There is a stumbling block once you hit tier 3 though (Gold) as gold is scarce/expensive. This is true for a lot of professions though, due to gold and seasoned wood being hard to come by.

Cooking is relatively cheap to level if you have a bunch of karma and time you’re willing to invest. A lot of the ingredients are cheap on the TP, and those that aren’t can be farmed with little effort. (The exception being Vanilla beans)

Most of the others are pretty much the same across the board, as they all use more or less the same materials. I would stay away from Artificer (it’s more expensive because of its high wood use, and wood has gotten really pricey recently)

Protip: Don’t craft the first tier intermittent items. Buy them. Things like Bronze helmet paddings and copper hooks/settings. They’re on the TP for about 1/4th to 1/10th of the price of gaining the raw materials and crafting them yourself.

Nov. Monthly Achievement: Dungeons Completed

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: codingCaptor.9428

codingCaptor.9428

The new monthly achievement is just for doing a single path of a dungeon (Either story mode, or one of the 3 explorable paths)

You have to do 5 dungeon runs total. So you can do story mode of 5 different dungeons, or you can do story/explorable for a single dungeon 5 times.

The first is good if you want it to be easier and you want to get some story on Destiny’s Edge.

The second is good if you want to farm a dungeon for some of the loot.

Take your pick.

What else to do besides quest?

You can start crafting. Crafting doesn’t require that much money, especially if you’re gathering all the materials you see out in the field. If you’re doing Tailoring and Jeweler (which are good choices, btw) Then you will have 0 use for gathered wood, allowing you to sell those and use the spare change from that to fund your other endevors.

Crafting is a bit complicated and confusing to newer players. The basic gist is: You use your known recipes to craft a bunch of ingredients, and then go to the “Discovery” tab to use those ingredients and make something you can use. For tailor that will be something along the line of “_ Lining, __ Padding, ____ Inscription” Whereas Jewelry uses “____ Setting, ____ chain/ring/hook, Gem.” Play around with it, it’s fun, and gives a ton of XP (Each crafting profession, if taken to the max 400 ranks, will give you 10 total levels worth of experience)

As for what else to do? Go exploring. Go back to your races starting area, and explore the entire map. Get all the Points of interest, all the waypoints and vistas. That will give you a bunch of experience and, if you get them all, a reward (Typically 3 transmutation stones, but you can also get a black lion key, both items you’d normally have to spend real money to obtain!) From that point, you could take an asura gate to lions arch, and explore that too!!! And then from lions arch, you can go to the capital of each other races capital, and explore those as well!!! There’s a lot of gorgeous things to see, fascinating lore, funny NPC dialog, etc. And, as I mentioned, exploring gives good XP as well. Such good XP, that if you explore all 6 cities (5 racial capitals, and lions arch) You’ll have accumulated 10 levels.

Your other options are to try out World Vs. World (It has it’s own menu, B to access it by default) It has it’s own tutorial when you first show up, so I’ll let it show you what to do. But it can be fun. Expect to be confused regularly.

You can also try sPvP (It has it’s own menu, located at the top. Crossed swords) But that won’t advance your character.

Ranger is a fine class for soloing PvE content. They don’t have many pet options (because of the balancing you mentioned) But they have 1 really good PvE Pet, and that’s the Bear. Honestly, when I read your preferences, my immediate thought was “This person wants to play a ranger.” They’re great ranged DPS, they have a couple nice support skills (Their healing well is GOD for other players if they know how to combo) And can switch in to melee when they want to (greatswords. Check them out.)

Thieves… Well, I play a thief. I love my thief. Do not get us confused with the squishy Rogues from other games. Thieves can build for survival and outlive almost anyone. There’s actually a semi-viable PvE Tanking build in which you get aggro, and then never stop dodging the enemy. Just dodge dodge dodge dodge. And that’s not even talking about how overpowered Blind is.

I’ll let you discover the wonders of thief yourself if you decide to roll one, but let me say this. If you ever find yourself having problems with a regular mob (or even a veteran) Equip a pistol in your offhand and check out the 5th skill on it.

Yea, thieves are great for everything but support. They don’t really give much to other team members.

According to the same website, it also shares a skin with Stinger. I won’t be sure till I get home and check, but that sounds VERY familiar. It’s probably exactly what I’m looking for.

Thankyou!

That’s a really good find, and I hadn’t thought about sPvP. When I get around to doing that (So many things to do in this game!!! I don’t have the time for them all!) I’m totally going to make use of that, So I thank you for the info.

Hopefully someone else knows where I can get the PvE version though.

For farming what you’ll want (in addition to the survivability you’ve mentioned) is speed. Speed to travel across the map as quickly as possible to get to those crafting nodes/mobs/etc.

I would recommend the Warrior. He has the highest base HP in the game (tied with necro, funnily enough) and can wear the heaviest armor in the game. They also have a very good elite skill called Signet of Rage You’ll note that it gives 30 seconds of Swiftness, at a 60 second cooldown. Using Superior Runes of Speed you can increase the speed boost of swiftness to 40%, as well as increase the duration of that swiftness up to 36 seconds. Coupled with the trait Signet Mastery you can get 36 seconds of improved Swiftness on a 48 second cooldown. Throw in the swiftness from a Warhorn’s Charge and you will be the fastest moving class in the game, all the time.

This will allow you to farm very well, without affecting your build too much (10 trait points and runes is all that’s required, and use of 2 skills that are already very good) You can fill out the rest of your gear/skills/what have you for Burst (Which the warrior can do, but is not suited for) and survivability (Which the warrior does easily, even when not built for it)

This will allow you to farm all day/night while minimizing downtime.

I would now like to point out, however, that if you’re wondering what character to play, you can try out any character at level 80 by making your character, completing your tutorial, and then going to the Structured PvP zone (availble via an icon at the top of the screen. The button you’re looking for is labeled “Travel to the Heart of the Mists”) Structured PvP allows you to be level 80, with all of your traits and skills unlocked, so you can play around and learn any class without having to level them up. So don’t take my word for it, you can go try it out yourself!

(Note that any class can accomplish 100% swiftness uptime, there is just lest investment required for some than others. Warriors are one of the easiest classes to accomplish this with, IMHO)

Stuck at 99% on World Completion

in Players Helping Players

Since you’re not missing any Hearts or skillpoints, that would suggest you’ve missed a city. There are 6 (1 for each race and then lions arch) I would check those first (and by check, I mean physically go to each location and check the completion % on the loading screen)

If that doesn’t pan out, I’d check WvW next, then I’d hit up the Orr maps (since they also lack renown hearts)

If you still can’t find a zone missing things, I would map travel, zone to zone to zone, checking the completion % on each map.

As far as magical areas go, there is a single point of interest in the Chantry of Secrets (Order of Whispers HQ) Which you can get to from fort trinity, or the entrance in Bloodtide Coast. But that is, to my knowledge, the only “hidden” Place in the game that’s not obvious you need to go there. And there is only a single POI inside. So you’re probably just missing something from a zone you thought you’d done.

If none of that works, I’ve seen a bug where the numbers shown for how many things you’ve completed will be wrong (My fiance was showing 20 random vista’s that she hadn’t done after she map completed) So you may want to open a bug report once you’ve done your homework and checked each place.

+1 And put the recipes out there for dungeon tokens.. maybe 120 for the Rare versions and 360 for the Exotic.

Hard to get patterns for dedicated crafters please.

That would kind of conflict with their philosophy of “you shouldn’t be required to do one type of content in order to enjoy other types of content” WvWvW guys would have to stop WvWing to do dungeons so they could craft. That’s not particularly fitting with the way A.Net runs the show.

But I totally agree with the idea. I want more recipes in the game that require me to do some work to get. And more exotic stat sets would be good for that. To misquote you….

We need more hard to get patterns for dedicated crafters please!!!

A while back on reddit someone posted a link to a bunch of exotic weapons and what they looked like and what they were called.

Personally, I didn’t like any of the daggers they showed there. I mean, some of them were cool enough, but they didn’t look like what I wanted to wield.

Except one. It looked like a Sai

Now, Spark (the legendary precursor) has the icon for a Sai, but the GW2DB preview shows it as just a standard dagger. Also, it is not the one from the list I saw previously, the exotic I was looking at was (comparatively) reasonably priced.

The issue is I’ve forgotten completely what it was called.
Does anyone know what weapon(s) have a Sai skin in game?
