Hidden Gardens - Worth it?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: codingCaptor.9428

codingCaptor.9428

First things first: Magic Find does not effect drops from Chests. Only from mobs.

Second thing: Drops from chests are better than drops from mobs. That being said, the rewards are generall 1-3 greens along with 1-2 green upgrade components. They’re usually level appropriate to the zone, but will randomly be level appropriate to you as well. Same as with mob drops in that zone.

As to whether or not it’s worth it? For the gear? No. Not even close. Time:Gear ratio for jumping puzzles is almost always not worth it (Exception being Ogre Den and Trolls Garden(with shortcuts) in lions arch) But you did get an achievement, and the sense of accomplishment from beating a hard/frustrating jumping puzzle.

Upgrading items w/o unused upgrade slot?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: codingCaptor.9428

codingCaptor.9428

All items should be upgradeable, with the exception of the new “Ascended” tier gear. However, you will be overwriting the old upgrade. (So you’ll get rid of the 10% increased bleed duration for whatever else you’re getting)

You can have as many crests as you’d like of the same type in your gear. Keep in mind that you cannot apply upgrades to items if the upgrade is a higher level item (So a Crest(level 80) could not be put in a level 79 exotic.)

I have run gear with 8 crests of the soldier (6 on the body, 2 on the weapons) in the past, so it is possible.

Corrupted Sledgehammer?

codingCaptor.9428

The raw Recipie data that I’m getting from GW2DB and GW2SPIDY suggest that the sledgehammer required for this recipie is the level 80 “of rage” variant. Since they get their info by data-mining what is in the games own infobanks, they’re the best source I can find. That doesn’t mean they’re right, however. I can not tell you for certain that no other sledgehammer will work. But I suspect it will not.

Warhorn +MF +Toughness +Vit

From what I can find, it appears that no such warhorn with those stats exists (Exotic or otherwise). Really, items with that stat distribution are pretty rare in general, not many of them exist.

My advice would be to look for a different stat set altogether. MF gear is rarely what you want unless you’re going to be doing a lot of farming, and if you’re doing farming you’re generally going to want more Power/Precision/ConditionDamage so that you can Tag more mobs (Or kill them faster, both of which are important)

Build help; Bunker/Healer

codingCaptor.9428

I’ve spent since launch playing around with my thief. Learning just what, exactly, I wanted on my theif (in terms of stats) To make her awesome. I finally found the perfect build for me this weekend, got everything put together, transmuted, and am very happy with the result.

Unfortunately, My elementalist is now rapidly approaching 80, and now I need to find gear for her as well. And I have problems. I’ve been playing my ele like I play my thief. Dual dagger, high risk high reward in your face DPS Facemelt. It’s beautiful. For PvE. But I made my ele to do Dungeons and WvW. I want to heal, support, and tank. And I am at a complete and total loss as to what to do.

I’ve been doing some research on bunker builds, and thus far the only real consensous I’ve seen is put points into water/arcane and get evasive arcana. everything else is all over the place. I have no clue how I would build this, what stats I want, or anything. It seems no one really agrees.

I’m okay with that, I’ll probably modify it to the way I want, to fit my playstyle and the way my teammates play. But What’s the Core of the Bunker build? What is the basic stuff that I MUST have for the thing to work at all? I get the general idea of “You regenerate a lot of health really quickly, and take very little damage” But I’m not sure I really understand HOW elementalists do that. I’m not really looking for a complete build, just enough of an outline that I can finish filling in the dots myself.

TL;DR: How do I bunker Ele?

Transmuting precursors+

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: codingCaptor.9428

codingCaptor.9428

1. Yes. If you transmute a Precursor it does not work in the Forge for making the Legendary. I’ve heard people call it a bug, implying that it will be fixed, but I’ve not seen anything official suggesting this will change. (theoretically, the part where it says “This item is a precursor to ____” is on the stats portion, so as long as you kept the stats portion it should still work. But that’s all theory.)

2. We don’t know for certain, because we haven’t gotten to the point where they’re going to update Legendary stats. At one time, Legendary’s changed color once transmuted (No longer being purple, instead being the rarity of whatever item they were transmuted onto) I recall them pushing something to fix this in a patch, but, not having a legendary myself, I don’t now if it did or not.

MF Limit?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: codingCaptor.9428

codingCaptor.9428

There are a lot of things that would explain that persons post. A lot of them have to deal with perception.

Because testing MF requires such a LARGE amount of farming, and because doing such a large amount of farming usually involves dealing with DR (Which can throw off your results) No one but a Dev can say for sure if there is not a MR Cap, or whether MR scales linearly or in some kind of logarithmic curve.

But as far as I can tell, having used both “Just MF food” and a full Loot Suit, 100%+ MF is most certainly better than 30% MF.

As Bubbawny pointed out, Karma is pretty easy to get. So do not worry about spending it on the Karma armor in orr. That’s a practical and relatively easy way to get exotic armor. Personally, I find the majority of my karma comes from doing my daily/monthly achievements (4500 karma per jug, which can be increased to around 7000 with buffs) but your mileage may vary.

You can also turn your Karma into money, by buying things 4 things with karma and combining them in the mystic forge. The resulting item can then be sold on the trading post for cash. What you buy/combine in the mystic forge… well, that’s up to you. Some things are more profitable than others, and you’ll have to make those discoveries on your own.

Or you can just save your karma for legendary stuffs, and farm up your exotic armor some other way. Nothing wrong with that.

SBI Balthazar

codingCaptor.9428

It depends on where the event chain is getting stuck at. From what I’ve heard, the most likely spot is where you’re escorting troops from the southern assault point. Supposedly, the method to un-sticking this is to lure enemy mobs over to the soldiers you’re escorting, and let all the soldier die. You will then need to escort the soldiers to the end of the event without ANY casualties.

Actually taking Balthazar is also very difficult from what I’ve heard. You will probably want a large group to assist you.

Keep in mind, I make no guarantees about any of this working, I’m just sharing knowledge I’ve gleaned from others.

Boxes of armor cost the exact same # of crafting materials to craft as crafting a full set of that armor through normal means (if they don’t cost more!).

In addition, the recipe to learn to craft the boxes are very expensive. So you spend a large amount of money to learn to craft a box, and then spend the same amount of money crafting the box.

It is far more efficient to just buy the armor pieces that you want piecemeal.

Thieves have an Elite skill called “Dagger Storm” Basically, you run into the middle of the enemy zerg, and spin in circles. If they don’t melee you to death (because you reflect projectiles) They die. This is pretty much exactly what you want, but because it’s an elite and requires you to be in the middle of the enemy, it’s not….. Effective.

The other option that I’ve seen are Elementalists. Staff Elementalist in fire attunement gets 2 AOEs. One is lackluster. The other is pretty much THE way of dealing with seige engines on top of towers/castles/etc. I have wiped out entire armys using this and I’m currently healing specced. It deals less damage than dagger storm, but you can usually get this off and live (and the cooldown is shorter)

Server transfert, advice needed!

Full servers are a problem. Your options are 2fold.

1. Wait. One of them will drop to high eventually.
2. Both of you transfer. Pick a server that’s not currently full, and both of you transfer at the same time.

As for guesting, No, it is not currently working. However, you CAN still group with him, and if an overflow instance of the map you want to be in exists, you can get into that overflow and play together. (Join party together, right click on his portrait, “join in <name of map>”)

At the moment… the only maps that really ever have overflow is Lions Arch. So you’d be able to do Fractal runs with him, but that’s it.

The correct answer to your question is “Whatever you want to do!” Most everything you can do will reward you with money and experience, and work towards your advancement.

A more Helpful answer to your question is: Work towards 100% the zone you’re in. Do all the heart quests, get all the waypoints, beat all the skill point challenges, and find all the Points of Interest/Vistas. This gives you great Direction, a short term goal, and will help advance your character.

You don’t need to worry about weapons/armor at the moment. As a general rule, you should probably only try to replace your weapons/armor every 10-15 levels while leveling. You CAN pick up a crafting profession (and craft your own weapons/armor) Which can be fun, but it’s not necessarily cost effective. But you need to know how crafting works, because that tells you what to buy off the Trading Post.

Basically: Buy blue(Fine Rarity) gear off the TP at level 10. Buy Green(Masterwork rarity) Gear at level 20. Then buy Green/Yellow(Rare rarity) gear every 15 levels. (35,50,65,80) This should help you stay geared and not have major money problems. You may be a little underpowered here and there, but by that point you should have a better grasp on what it is you’re doing.

TL;DR: Explore! Find what you want to do for yourself! But if you’re lost, go 100% the zone you’re in.

Legendary with ascended stat

in Players Helping Players

Arenanet has stated that Legendary weapons will ALWAYS have the best stats in the game, and that they will Match the highest stat tier beneath them.

As such, when Ascended Weapons are released, Legendary Weapons will have their stats improved to match those of Ascended weapons.

Legendary Weapons should never have better stats than other gear that is easier to obtain (Currently exotics, later Ascended)

They have not said anything about changing Legendary skins. It’s possible, but I find it highly unlikely. The best we’re liable to see are bug fixes should a legendary’s particles not be legendary enough.

lol awesome help thanks. so you said the combo’s arent explained very well. can you elaborate then? how do you get em to pop off

A lot of skills have “Combo field” in their description. It will put down a field you can see on the ground (Or in a sphere if you’re underwater) It will be a White AoE, usually a circle, although lines and rectangles do exist. They will be different from other white AoE circles in that the edges will be raised a bit (With puzzle pieces, if you look close enough)

Other skills have “Combo Finisher” in their description. If you use a Combo Finisher on a Combo Field, you get a special effect. So if an Elementalist puts down a Fire Circle, and you shoot arrows over it as a thief, Your arrows will be lit on fire and inflict Burning.

They will always be that simple, but in the heat of battle, using a skill that has a finisher element when an ally has laid down a field that will produce an effect you want (like healing) and being able to do so without otherwise sacrificing your positioning/DPS/life, can be hard.

If by “the genre” you mean MMOs, then this is a bit different than most MMOs. (There are MMOs like it though. Dragons Nest is the first one that comes to mind. But Dragons Nest is bad.) Prepare to be pleasantly surprised.

By Level 30, you will have access to pretty much every skill your character can use. The game is very much based around you learning how to use those skills appropriately. Not just alone, but with other people. The best thing you’ll do to remember is that Nothing on your skillbar is useless. Every skill has it’s use, even ones you don’t like.

Almost all classes are cooldown based, with no Mana stat or anything like that. The exception to this rule is Thief. Thieves are, funnily enough, the only class with resource management. This does good things for them, and can cause problems as well.

Learn about combos They’re pretty much the only “Hidden” mechanic in the game. It’s not explained very well, you’ll hardly ever notice when it’s happening, but it can make a HUGE difference if you use them appropriately.

The game is not soley about endgame. There is really good/fun content at all points. Don’t try to rush it, it will just make you have less fun.

The medium armor in this game has lackluster looks. If you want to be the most epic looking of all epic people, I’d suggest a class that wears heavy or light armor. You can preview a lot of the endgame armors here

Exotic is a Rarity tier. There are all kinds of items that are considered “Exotic” Not all of them are weapons/armor.

However, you’re correct. You want Exotic Armor/Weapons.

All Exotics will have the Same Amount of stats on them. The numbers will be the same. The thing that will be different is Which stats the armor will have (power vs. Precision, etc.) I’d take a look at this and decide on what stats you want first.

As for how to get them… You have 5 options.

1. You can run Dungeons. It takes on average 4 runs of an exploreable mode dungeon to get a single piece of armor. Keep in mind that’s assuming you’re running a new path each time. Since there are only 3 paths per dungeon, that means you can only do 3 dungeon runs a day and get “Full” rewards from them, so it may take you a week or more of doing dungeons to get full Exotic gear here.

2. You can spend your Karma in Orr. There are Karma vendors in each of the “Temples” in the Orr maps. They sell exotic armor. this is a good guide on those.

3. You can buy your armor off of the Trading Post. Prices can range from 2 gold to 10 gold depending on how rare/impressive the look/stats are on that piece of armor.

4.You can hope that the Exotic armor you want drops off of mobs. It’s possible, but don’t do this. It’s a VERY small % chance.

5. You can go play WvW. There is a set of WvW exotic armor (called the Invaders set) Which you can trade in your Badges of Honor for. It takes A LOT of badges for this armor. Like, seriously, a lot. If you only casually do WvW, you won’t be able to afford any anytime soon.

Honestly, if you just hit 80, I’d reccomend you go buy a set of Rare gear off the trading post, and use that to farm for your Exotic armor. Far more cost effective, and you can do pretty much anything in the game wearing nothing but Rare armor.

you’re correct on both accounts. Only procs when you are hit, and it gives all 3.

Most runes only proc when you are hit. Sigils are the ones that proc on attack. There are some exceptions, but they are few/far between.

Keep in mind that Gemstones and Crests will have higher stat bonuses on them than runes (But lack fancy secondary effects) and may be preferable for you to upgrade your gear with.

Silver Doubloons

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: codingCaptor.9428

codingCaptor.9428

Each mob has a different rare crafting material that they will drop. For most mobs that’s a Core/Lodestone. Zombies have Essences.

Doubloons drop from humans (bandits, pirates, etc.) Since it is a level 20 item, you want to kill human enemies that are higher than level 20, but lower than level 35 (where gold doubloons appear)

Honestly? I’d just farm level 80 enemies for $$$, and buy the doubloons off the market. It is probably a better time investment for you than farming level 30 pirates.

Power vs. Wep. attack power

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: codingCaptor.9428

codingCaptor.9428

First off, lets define some terminology.

Weapons have a Weapon Damage value.
Your character has a Power stat.

The +power you’ll see on weapons increase your power stat. However, even if none of your gear has power, you’ll still have some inherent amount of power from your level (and possibly traits)

Damage dealt is basically Power * Weapon damage.

So, at the end of the day, you want to try and get your power and Weapon Damage approximatly equal. That’s never going to happen, but it’s what you want. Your Power stat is almost always going to be higher than your weapon damage, so as a general rule of thumb, you want weapon damage over more power.

Need Warrior Advise

Posted by: codingCaptor.9428

codingCaptor.9428

Having just given a quick look at what you got/want…

First off, Traits. I would take off Rending Strikes and replace it with Last Chance though (Quickness is REALLY GOOD) and you don’t really crit enough in this build for you to rely on any “on crit, do X” effects. Everything else looks like it’ll do the trick just fine.

Second off, gear. You have Precision (and crit %) from your traits, so now you need power, and surviveability stats. For that I’d recommend POW/tough/vit gear. You can obtain exotic armor with those stats from Karma vendors in Orr. You can also get that stat distro on Armor AND weapons from dungeon runs (AC, SE, or HotW) And from Trading in WvWvW Badges. Upgrade components should be Crests of the Soldier or, if you feel you’re lacking in the damage department, Ruby Orbs.

your Jewelry should probably be Ruby jewelry (POW/prec/crit damag) Because getting POW/vit/tough jewelry is dumb hard (WvWvW reward only as far as I can tell)

That should give you enough damage to be scary, but enough survive-ability that you can take a punch to the face with no problems. You’ll handle PvE content no problems. WvW… there are probably some tweaking you can do to your build/weapons to make it better, but that’s too fine grained for me to help ya with.

Orbs (highest tear gemstone) can only be put in level 80 gear. It’s probable that your body/leg/arms are currently level 80 gear, and your other peices of armor are lower level.

I don’t think it does crit.

Boons work the same way as conditions as far as I can tell, so I highly doubt that those would crit (since my bleeds don’t crit)

That is very good information, thankyou.

Chest gives 101/72, and Pants give 67/48 . The crit damage always replaces a “low” stat as far as I can tell, so it corresponds to the 24/48/72 numbers.

HSBG gives 24 low stat points, or 2% crit damage, so 1% of crit damage is equal to 12 stat points (for level 80 exotic armor)
Legs give 48 and 3% which is paying 16 stat points per crit damage
Chests give 72 and 5%, which is paying 14.4 stat points per crit damage.

SO, if you want crit damage, and want to minimize the amount of other stats you have to pay for that crit damage, than wearing Head/Shoulder/Hand/Feet items with % Crit Damage, and Leg/Chest with something else, would be the most efficient.

As a side note, if we assume that 12 points per crit % should be the norm, it would be 4 crit damage on pants, and 6 on chest armors. If we assume that chests are correct, Head armor would be at 1.6 repeating and leg at 3.3. If we assume pants are correct, it’d be 1.5 for head and 4.5 per chest.

In conclusion, We don’t know what they want the price of a single Crit damage % point to be (in terms of standard stats) It’s somewhere in the 12-16 range. Could be outside the range, honestly, but we don’t have enough data for that. (We might could get more data by looking at non-exotics, but I don’t have time) But they round the stats on the gear, which makes some gear “Better” than others in terms of what you sacrifice when getting crit damage %.

Can Healing Crit?

I am looking at picking up an alternate set of gear for my Ele for trying to heal as hard as is humanly possible. Just for kitten and giggles.

My options for stat distros are HP/vit/pre or HP/pow/tough. If I can crit with a heal skill, then the option is obvious. If not, then I’m gonna have to pick, which will bug me.
