Nothing. Its pointless as hell after wave of excitement wears off.
Thank you for your insightful and highly intelligible proposition. That never crossed my mind before. But this does not change the game you enjoy.
Anet doesnt agree with you since wvw is almost identical to rvr in daoc.
You can leave now.
Am I the only one who get irritated by annoucer spamming “your lord is under attack” over and over and over or npc’s spamming “you must visit more often” or giants keep yelling at you and won’t shut up?
Hello people, first I want to say that I really love this game and want to play it for loong long time.
2 things first
-I dont really like WoW, I socially played it for a while but its not my game.
-I don’t want time=power equation in this game.
There are a alot of threads about -lack of- any end game content, and some people say they don’t want to grind anything.
I agree, I am a pvp player and I don’t want to be forced to pve to compete in pvp.
What I would like to see in this game is some kind of daoclike pvp progression (only for wvw, spvp is competitive) this is how it works for non-daoc speakers.
-There are 13 ranks can only achieved by killing enemies and capturing pvp objectives
-You can only see your enemies race and their realm rank title(ie Troll Einherjar) but
when you click on them, your combat log will tell you their name
-Realm points required to gain a new realm rank is exponential. 3L0 is around 63k and 10L0 is around 6 mil, you get 900-1700 for a solo kill(unless they got recently killed) and 200-500 for a kill your group gets. You get around 2k for capturing a keep(for max level and if its not recently captured) So you cannot basicly farm for RPs, you just enjoy it, and RPs are bonus.
-The problem is abilities you purchase with your realm levels was kind of imbalanced. I am not asking that kind of stuff (I would like it but its pointless since its against anet’s vision about this game)
And thats what I am proposing to enhace WvW experince for people like me without compelling new PvPers and forcing casual folk to do anythink they do not want to do to compete in WvW.
There is some kind of commander system in game,
-Instead of paying 100g for that, You pay something like 50g and 2000 badges of honor(you can play with numbers of course), When you purchase it, you open a new progression path (10 new commander levels) gold and badge requirements exponentialy grows at each level.
-When you initiate your commander path, you get a title near your name visible to enemy (istead of gandara invader, it says gandara <title here>, enemy can see your name in combat log(not on your head) and armor.
-Each level gives you 1 skill point(you get them with each level after 80 already) Maybe a trait every 2 levels (assuming it would take years to reach max level, 5 traits would’t make any noticable differance in wvw) and a new (cooler of course :P) title near your name.
-At level 10 commander level instead of gandara <titles> it directly show your name above your head to your enemy.
So with something like that:
+You don’t(can’t) farm for commander points, it requires too much they would only accumulate over time, its not an endgame grind just another incentive towards WvW
+%99 cosmetic/about bragging rights not gamebreaking in anyway
+You are free to not to unlock commander pathway if you don’t want titles etc
+In current state of WvW its kind of boring to attack caravans, get zerged and owned constantly or attacking keeps without defenders, in that kind of rewarding system, even if you lose the fight you gain something personal and can keep playing.
+It would keep some people (like me) keep playing this awesome game for years while not affecting non-pvp players in any way
-May lead to rank elitizm (maybe your teammates can’t see your rank and there is already a commander rank in game)
-??
So what do you think?
Daoc had non-grind pvp content lasts 5 6 years for an average player. (there was 25+ classes you can repeat the process)
I dont mind waiting for some content if anet annouces that they are working on it, i can level last 2 crafting professions, level more alts etc. But I am not sure if they want pvp progression.
nice guide ty
(edited by Moderator)
Well it could be next daoc and hold my interest with a little tweaking for next 7-8 years, but apparently anet doesn’t want it =>
Nothing and apparently people are ok with that since there is no subs fee :P
Or we can ask for some non-grind wvw progression (like daoc) and play this game for years. I really love this game except there is not much to do.
I wonder if you can’t see content=! gear grind or just so incredibly stupid.
Ofc i tried them, I think the problem is when you click your left mouse button to move game just unselect your target. It is very annoying.
I’ve played almost every mmo out there(except asian ones) and i don’t remember i had a problem with targeting in any of them.
I am constantly losing my target during fights , sometimes my target just disappears during a channeling spell and i have to double check every time i target someone. is there any kind of sticky targetting in this game?
They just don’t want a indicator shows how bad they are.
So they will keep missing the point on purpose.
Just don’t bother with them.
Its not primitive, its the very fabric of life.
Thats how you progress, thats how you get your computers, iphones etc.
Thats why people should know basic science =>
Why is no one reading what I’ve said. I don’t really know what to say.
I play just for the fun of playing RIGHT NOW. However MONTHS DOWN THE LINE, let me say it again, MONTHS DOWN THE LINE, playing with no aim other than just to play will not be anywhere near as fun.
Jesus, I just wanna know if there is going to a ranking system other than glory in PvP.
How do you know?
I think of the PvP as I do about Counter Strike. Even after years, some people still play just because it’s fun.
I got a couple of games myself that despite having grinding and progression, I just play occasionally for fun, though I know I’m hindered by the fact I don’t spend as much time as others, so my character isn’t really “good”. But I still play because I find them fun.
This game is just like that.
Edit: The game is just like that, BUT I won’t be penalized for not spending hours and hours to get the best gear/maximum level to play with others.
No no.
People play fps because they have very high skill ceiling compared to gw2 and you have bragging rights(a scoreboard) in WvW you can’t even see your enemies armor.
So why do people shy away from a system that shows who is better than who.
There is a segment of the population I like to refer to as “adults”, who do not need a digital pat on the back to provide them with a sense of self worth.
And is this your excuse for being bad?
You know competition and arms race is the basis of life and evolution itself?
Stop being funny and labeling a 4 billon year instinct as being childish.
Games are about challenges and rewards. A reward can be a new level in game, new titles, some kind of scoreboard, bragging rights. If a game doesn’t have these things(gw2 doesnt-if you dont like dressing a barbie doll- after 80) it will only last untill “excitement of a new game” wears off.
WE PLAY FOR FUN crowd is the worst thing ever happened to this game.
I hope anet is not taking them serious.
What we need is WvW progression not pve.
Darkness Falls please.
yep.
Please no.
Mounts are useless in this game as a means of transportation and only make the world empty as no one is going to dismount to help you.
You can literally teleport to anywhere on map and mounts would make this game empty?
Why bother?
There is nothing worth looting anyways.

United thief players.
How cute.
You know thats why almost every mmo fails.
Eighter copying wow and serving nothing original or not copying wow just for the sake of it and serving 0 content like this game.
WvW is meaningless and gets old after 20-30 hours.
Farming/crafting is pointless after you obtain an exotic set.
Karma/gold is useless since there is nothing to buy except skins.
Dungeons are horrible and pve is just bad in this game you may want to skip raiding.
So there is nothing to do in this game unless you are a little girl dressing her dolls.
Meaningful pve
Meaningful crafting
Meaningful WvW
Ability to queue with my friends
Bigger frontiers, incrased # of players
And why would I give a kitten about what server i am playing against or my rating when my contribution to that victory as an individual is negligable and i have absolutely 0 personal gain.
What we need is WvW progression not pve.
Add some kind of realm point system.
Utterly pointless atm.
insights from a 26 thief. impressive.
Its incredibly boring to attack caravans/camps after a while because you dont gain anything wheter you win/lose the battle.
Yes,
solution: enlarge borderlands by a factor of 3
make swiftness only apply to your group
=
you will get roaming groups instead of 150 people attacking everything on their way including critters.
PvE? spvp? wvw?
get dagger. spam 2, collect bags.
Meh, limiting legit players to fight botters is always a bad idea.
Nvm he is jay wilson
obviously he has no clue =>
I can burn down most of my targets under 10 seconds with staff, what are you talking about?
Fireball crits for 3k
Lightining second skill crits around 4k.
No! this game is about looking fancy, and there is no subscription fee you so can just level to 80, craft some meaningless items and move to next game. And you cant have wvw titles because that leads to elitism in a pvp mmo.
Hilarious right?
This is nothing like fps’.
FPS have much much higher skill cap than gw2, thats what keeps fps fresh.
The second thing is FPS got recognition and bragging factors. You can’t even see your enemies armor here lol.
And people saying “if you dont like pvp dont do it” you realize thats how %99 of mmo’s failed right?
And please break the illusion of " I dont want to get 1 shotted because someone has better gear/stats" even in daoc where realm ranks was a huge factor, you can beat a rank 10 with your rank 3 if you pick your fight right.(rank 10=6 mil points, rank 3=63k)
And noone asking a progression as steep as daoc, we are just asking a progression feeling so WvW won’t feel pointlesss as it is now.
I am perplexed with people who think WvW is competitive. It is not, it will never be, it cannot possibly be competitive. This is what spvp is for.
I guess none of you played WAR/Daoc.
It’s even worse than daoc where your buffs only effect your group of 8, while gw2 favors zergs over groups in wvw.
Thats the biggest problem with this game for me. I played daoc for 9 years and enjoyed every second of it, and I was very excited for gw2 when I heard about RvR concept.
To be honest the “battle” is really good, supply system, orbs of power etc, well done anet.
But seriously, how long do you think you can defend the same keep for “fun”? You know, the basics of gamification is you achieve something challenging and you get rewarded. Thats what fun is.
The current state of WvW is incredibly dull and pointless after 20-30 hours of playing.
-When you kill someone, they lose nothing, everyone can res and even if you release the bg is so small they can literally start fighting under 1 minute.
-There is no personal recognition, no titles, no names(altough i like this, your name should be written in combat log ala Daoc), you can’t even see your enemies armor. Why? Because people focus on weakest looking player? Why are you even playing a pvp game if you dont like challenge? Thats beyond casual, its boring. I can’t even see my session stats, there are no deathblow texts. Killing someone is just pointless and no sense of achievement.
-No long term goals. I dont care about cosmetics, when I want to look fancy, I visit Prada. I can understand people work for it but do you seriously think its an incentive for majority? Realm point system in daoc was great. You can’t farm it (max rank was around 11 mil and every player gives 200 in a group) and there was someting to aim for for years if you play semi-casual. I can’t really believe you wouldn’t use a mild version of that system.(a max rank player should’t faceroll a new character just a small advantage maybe, %30-40 of daoc’s rr scaling)
I really enjoyed the game till 80, but feels so boring right now. You made a really really good game and I would be really unhappy to leave it because there is nothing to do for me.
