I play spirit ranger myself, although I run sb/gs and I can tell you right now it’s not OP. It’s a perfectly viable build and I’m really enjoying it, but there are plenty of counters, especially control skills, condi spams and immobilizes. Talk about kitten-hurt losers, cant just accept defeat gracefully. And this coming from a guy who plays ele, come on now that’s laughably hypocritical.

I was day dreaming just this afternoon what if they give pets passives?.

-Bird pets could go something like “Flight: This pet ignores terrain elevation”(Going up and down cliffs, walls, etc)

-Cats may have “Lethal Paws: Critical damage increased 20%”

-Canines “On the hunt: Basic attacks cripple when enemy’s health is below 33%”

-Bears “Defender: Every damage that exceeds X% of ranger’s hp in one hit is transferred to pet”

-Spiders "Venomous Nature: Basic attacks have X% to cause poison

Would be nice to have them all activate if you go 30 in bm or make them permanent maybe.

Maybe not reveal them but what about chasing. therefore at least you would be able to teel if the thief ran away or is about to back stab you so atleast you have a window for dodging or something.

Interesting idea, but this would be even more powerful counter vs. thieves. I could just send my pet to track the thief and it would transmit his location to me AND all of my allies. You could effectively kill the thief just by following the pet and swinging the air. It’s a fitting suggestion to pet-related traits but I don’t believe anti-stealth traits like this are the answer to stealth-problems.

What I think is, we need more out of pets. They should have let long leash range stay, what I looked for in the ranger when they said pets was the ability to split. What I feel like now is a babysiter not couting that when you use the adventage of higher terrain your pet is doing nothing or when you are attacking someone on higher terrain.

Condi not only provides you with damage that can bypass armor and prtotection, but it gives you tankiness which you take 100% advantage of.

That said and given Anet philosophy I would say tweak the traitlines so we recieve power with high vitality/toughness or what would likely happen nerf ranger vitality and toughness scalings by 30%

It would also be nice to have the option to not use a pet at all. Giving the Ranger an over all boost in damage.

Many of OP’s suggestions on pets are great, but you still have the biggest issue with pets and that is the really, really bad AI. It would be nice if Rangers actually had the option of using the pet or not using it.

Perhaps switching out the pet gave the ranger a new F1 ability.

Everytime I see people suggesting to remove pets I’m like why don’t they roll a warrior?(no offense)

I actually had a similar thought about having a trait to reveal stealth. It would’ve been a bonus effect on Spotter (Marksmanship, master level) and it would’ve revealed foes in a small radius around the ranger. I decided to drop it as it seemed to provide too direct counter vs. thieves. It never occurred to me that it might have some usage on pets too. Nice suggestion in any case!

I have only played hotjoin so far and I think the problem is unlike LoL for example it seems to me that my team doesn’t have a clear idea of what to do.(simple right?, just capture points) but more often than not I find myself involved in some kind of a deathmatch arena.

the only problem I have with long range glass cannon is that you need to position in high places to be safe. thus making your pet useless and crippling your dps. If only birds could move freely(ignoring terrain elevation) I would see no reason not to have a long ranged sniper and go all pew pew with your birdy.

But well we all know anet have better stuff to do then fixing pets, but I can’t dream can’t I?

Oh, I’m definitely not saying that it was the only way to handle it. But look at the design of the skills is all; flanking for max damage, point blank for max effectiveness, evade+kiting, cripple+pressure, and interrupt with better effects when flanking.

Everything about the weapon suggests that it’s purpose wasn’t to sit at 1200 range and spam 1 at people. Maybe the devs didn’t design the other weapons well enough, or maybe they don’t want rangers using conditions at long range, but either way, the change was to force the weapon to have to be used as intended. Down the line from now, with a different change, they could implement something where everybody all of a sudden goes “oh man, I get why they did that now.”

All I’m saying is that for everybody who wants the game “fixed,” thinking that it was okay for the shortbow to be the go to weapon for everything (and that fact that it was kind of true) isn’t balanced, and isn’t good design, and needed to be limited within its design so that it doesn’t overshadow weapons. Also, the data analysis after the patch is going to be an extreme measurement of how much the ranger community doesn’t like the longbow when even after the patch people still won’t use it. That right there is going to immediately start a flow of improvements to the longbow down the pipeline, which is ultimately what most power build users wanted (until they got used to the prepatch shortbow).

Also remember that the range nerf also lowered the range that the Piercing Arrows trait can affect. And removed any 900+ condition damage option from the ranger.

Yes, the SB should not have been used as it was from a balance perspective. But to remove options is not the way. If they wanted people to stop using it as such they should have given us options, not removed them. I’d love to use the LB for many reasons, aesthetics included (working on Kudzu). Unfortunately it’s still weaker than the SB. All that change did is lower my damage at range.

Some great ideas…and some of them are very reasonable.

I will only give 1 wish. Since if we got this I would be completely happy.

1. Ranger stealth – An ability that puts you and your pet into stealth.
- It takes 5 seconds for it to work after activating it.
-If you move, you lose stealth.
-If you attack, you lose stealth.
-When you do lose stealth, it has a 1 minute cooldown before you can use it again.
-Cannot use it inside a tower/keep or supply camp….or within 2000 units outside any of these areas.

It completely fits with any lore the Ranger should have. Great at scouting with stealth but couldn’t abuse it like Thieves by leaving and entering stealth at will.

I would like to add 4seconds of quickening zephyr upon breaking out of stealth. muahahahahaha

The problem is that for max condi damage you become really tanky so no will only you be as tanky a kitten on top of your pet dealing high dmg you can bleed the kitten out of people easily.

1) pet infinite leash range.

Not with you on that. We have crazy survivality with sword dagger you get 3 doges, 50% endurance regen in WS, lighting reflxes for extra dodge(if you want to feel really safe), protection on dodge roling, protect me shout we have so many ways not to die I think it’s unfair.

So much escapes and you have trouble with a build that relies on 1 skill? go sword dagger and lighting reflexes and you have counting dodges 6 ways of evading 100b and if you trait for shared anguish(WS III) that warrior will feel so stupid as he finally lands that precious bull charge and see you are not in the ground.

Isn’t every class that isn’t using is class mechanic loosing potential?. A necromancer who does not use deathshourd is less durable than one that does, right?.

How is pet more scary if the ranger is 90% of the damage you are recieving?. pets with 30points in BM account as if they were equiped with the best gear right? best of all it’s free =D(relatively speaking).

Fun build I tried it in spvp but you really need your team to group and pray a thief doesn’t wanna mess with you.

I rather use piercing shots + eagle eye. 1500 range sniping freaking kittenes on the back lanes.

The pet aoe redution is not good due to pets tanking bosses.

I would like them to make pet leash 10.000(well maybe thats a bit over the top). But instead of pets being split dps you have to manage how to land I would like them to be more utility.

You know that being two places a the same time also pets moving in “Z” like something good about using birds is they are able to swoop down and attack from high places or spiders too by climbing.

Pets taking capture points(maybe), for wvw a skill that allows you to send your pet for scouting.

Pet like felines and canines are able to track enemines on stealth, maybe not damaging them but just following then like “hey the kitten is here master be careful”.

Yeah implement those in BM traitline right now the tree is all about relying your damage to the AI not about pets being more versatile IMO.

As for hitting moving targets I run trap build and shortbow. 900 range only in shortbow allows for easier flanking and I keep the enemy locked for my pet with forst trap, shortbow 4, 5. Is quite more easy for them to escape now since I cant bleed them 1200 range, you can say that but if they ran away I did my task of holding the point.

Are you kidding they are like the underdogs now. I haven’t played the original guild wars, but God I hate charr to no extend I refuse to help on their maps, how come we have to forget when they didn’t?.

I might need some illumination on the Foefire but from what I’ve read I hope they have to deal with the human ghosts forever.

Healer: 1. Attention w**re with alturistic complex. Things such as thanks, thx, ty, helpful, savior are known to give them orgasms.

2. Player needed to blame on your deaths regardless of your skill.

3. God mode cheat.

For me they are not needed at all, you always have the downed state to get back on and anyone can ress you. Dodge, swiftness and protection to mitigate.

Some mobs are just burst everything you have whenever you have it, yes. I found some to be really difficult also and found myself death a lot until I could dodge to an acceptable level.

Maybe MOBA is not a good example but take LoL for an instance, yes there are support characters but the heals are not the most important part of them.

If you want to hear how useful you are and how indispensable then go play another game, help your mom on the house doings, join green peace or help the homeless. Believe me last three are more productive.

Lastly this game might not be perfect, yet! but I wouldn’t want it to go for the same old presets.
