PU is quite a nice trait and perhaps there is a very good build complimenting it but I can’t live without Illusionary Persona and Deceptive Evasion.
IP because a daze and invulnerability on demand is just too good. The whole illusion line is very awesome with condition builds so I think 30 points there is the way to go.
And DE is the best shatter fuel mechanic the mesmer has, and clones are awesome for defence, offence everthing. So more clones = good. and bleed on clone crit? very good
that leaves me with 20 points.
inspiration? I like toughness more then vit and the traits don’t fit well.
domination? some really good traits like boon removal on shatter. and 20% longer condition duration is great, too. but…
chaos? more toughness yeah! more boon duration! very nice minor traits and perfect fitting major traits. a low cd phase retreat is almost as important to me than IP or DE :\
going for PU means less clones and less bleeding; so less damage and less defence.
5% toughness into cond damage and longer stealth/defence boon does not make up for it imo.

stealth helps against conditions. it helps preventig to be hit by conditions
and if I have stacks of conditions I pop some clones, use a stealth ability and wait till conditions are over/heal is ready.

as I said, both increase your damage.
but you can deal good damage with bleeds/burns. just shatter some clones when you can refill them instantly so you get a nice confusion burst. even if it only triggers one time, thats very good damage for free. do you use pizza? that helps a lot with confusion.
furthermore don’t just compare crit/power – condition builds only in terms of damage. condition builds tend to be way more tanky since condition gear has vitality/toughness

I use a mix of Khilbron armor and karma armor from orr. All exotic with Condition damage as priority and precision+toughness as secondary.
fang of colossos amulet, rare rabid rings and accessories. (exotic rings are like 50 gold and accessory ~12 )
weapons exotic cond damage, precision, toughness
rune of the undead*6, sigil of corruption*2, sigil of energy, trinkets=crest of the rabid
ah don’t forget pizza food and tuning crystals, greatly improving your condition damage
hm this sounds quite interesting.
I guess you use this build in wvw since in stealth you can’t take/hold a point in spvp?
confusion on clone death + stealth with defence boons sounds really tanky.
but loosing bleed on clone crit and DE? aaaaaahhhhrgh have to test it^^

build intention: high survivability, high sustained cond damage, high burst condition damage
sustained damage with staff bleeds/burns,
burst damage with confusion (scepter, torch, shatters)
have used this for the last weeks and I’m feeling a little bit overpowered in small skirmishes from 1vs3 to 5vs15. especially with the recent “shattered strentgh” buff.
stats with exotic gear (excluding rings and accessories) is about 2800 armor, 45%crit, 2000 cond damage (with 25 stack sigil, without might stacks), 16k hp.
-you are very hard to take down (high armor, 1200 blink, low cd phase retreat, chaos armor, storm, 3 stealths………)
-deal very good sustained cond damage and insane confusion burst damage (3k-8k confusion ticks).
-you can take fortified camps solo, can roam behind enemy line (a lot of stealth)
I don’t want to sound conceited but I can’t remember being stomped or downed in a 1vs1. And you can bring pain in group fights. People tend to ignore conditions when they feel safe, for example in a 2vs6 situation. And suddenly half their team is gone because they hit themselves with 5k confusions :P

osicat have you tried a condition/shatter build with full rabid exotics?
first I played a full berserker 10, 30, 0, 0, 30 shatter build with gs-s/p, it was a lot of fun and rewards good gameplay with almost godlike 1vs1-1vs2 abilities.
after that I tried rabid condition shatter build and it is a different gameplay (you almost can’t die, even while drunk) but the dps (still very good) is lower and the burst can vary between 20k in 2 seconds to 5k :\
taking down fleeing enemies can be tricky too.
on the other hand you can take on 3-5 people (full 80) and kill them slowly but steadily and taking a fortified camp is easier^^
now im switching between those two builds to get fresh air in the wvw experience now and then.
just posted this, because if you enjoy shatter power/crit build you will certainly enjoy confusion shatter build also.

ok confusion bomber build works in wvw, thats really great and to be honest I had my share of fun with confusion in wvw too! I even love confusion builds in tpvp! It works well BUT not because of scepter.
I switched scepter with sword (100% condition spec) and it is better than scepter because of 2 sec invul and aoe root. IF scepter would be buffed to add some condition damage like a 2sec confusion stack on aa 1+2, I would give it another shot in tpvp but without it, it is lacking.
and torch is another story, prestige is really helpful in pd battles because the enemy can’t cap with torch’s channeled stealth but the phantasm is a joke, not even worth the 1sec cast time.
Sceptor will always be viable if you know how to play.

yeah in this video you can clearly see how the player is owning people with scepter………… not!
1. mainweapon is staff, used 90% of time
2. he uses scepter because of lack of other “condition”-weapons
3. imo he could do better with a sword/torch combo
you can say that a weapon is fine by watching a wvw-video in which someone is using that weapon……… not!
but: music in that video is awesome
(1) Moa has just got to go or be substantially nerfed. Imagine an “I win” button that was on a 5 minute cooldown. No one would ever want that in the game even though it had a long cooldown. So the long-ish cooldown of moa does not justify its power. Either nerf it to a shorter duration or make the attack abilities good enough that someone who knows what they are doing can kick butt with it. Do not increase the cool down because that doesn’t really help.
so I imagine your “iwin” button (target instantly goes to downed state, can be blocked, evaded, 5m cooldown), imo it would not be op. wow you got one target down, match won? don’t think so. moa is even less threatening with its long cast animation and the possibility to escape while moaed.
I play mesmer tpvp only and don’t use moa because it sucks compared to time warp in 9/10 situations
could we please stay on tpvp? =)
oh and I totally forgot to mention interrupt traits. they are soooo semi subpar I don’t even know where to begin. is there anyone out there using those traits in tpvp?

hm moa is a high risk/high reward skill. it is easy to dodge. but perhaps a nerf is needed. my suggestion however would be to increase the victim’s hp to help to survive while still being out of combat for 10 secs.
ok so the pvp patch is in sight and I’m quite curious about it.
in the thief section they started a buff/nerf thread and perhaps we should do so too, in a constructive way with focus on tpvp (please no wvw talk here!).
I’ll give my thoughts for starters:
scepter: it is designed to be a condition weapon right? but the only attack that applies a condition is 3 and that skill is not very strong due to the really long animation. my suggestion, reduce the animation time by 33% or ad 1-3 stacks of confusion. furthermore the third hit of the autoattack should additionally apply one stack of confusion for about 3-4 seconds. the clones third attack will apply a 2-3 second confusion.
this would make the scepter very nice in a condition spec but not over the top imo.
staff:
phase retreat +1-2 sec recharge. if traited right it is a way too good gtfo skill with way too short cooldown.
greatsword:
mind stab is quite lackluster imo, no great damage no big aoe, rooted, lackluster…
a more specialised mind stab would be good imo.
less damage, a little bigger aoe and 2-3 boons removed would make it a good (balanced) skill. perhaps longer recharge (15-25sec?)to compensate. this way it would be a skill with great benefits in some situations
focus:
swiftness should stack with other sources! hope it is a bug and not intended
torch: image is really the worst phantasm of mesmer by a large margin. way too long cooldown for this useless piece of illusion. either cooldown cut in half or attackspeed doubled with 2 stacks of confusion.
furthermore the prestige makes you invis (channeled) but you can hold a point or take one while in stealth. it this intended? imo it should be seen as any other stealth meaning: me in stealth + enemy on point = enemy takes point.
so what are your thoughts?

im using a condition mesmer in tpvp all the time and IMO I quoted your mistake. Try not to shatter all the time. the sustained damage comes from bleeds/burns. and perhaps try not to use scepter, it is very underwhelming right now. Use sword and torch to have more survivability.
Furthermore try to do damage with staff and staff clones. All those bleeds/burns are killing everyone nice but slowly while you are quite hard to kill. I only use confusion (via shatters) to burst someone down. A good target to be confused is a roamer entering the fight, just an example. Or a guardian with ~40-50% hp. Or confuse when your clone generating abilities are up.
can’t explain when to use high confusion stacks but after a while you normally notice the right moment when the target is going to use a lot of skills. Sometimes it is very obvious (frenzy, etc)
Meanwhile get them low with bleeds and burns with double wind of chaos and 3 clones.
Confusion Bomber (tpvp, condition/shatter)
I was tired of the phantasm spamming builds and tried something totally different and it works very well. Burst damage comes from confusion (sustained 1-14+ stacks) applied mainly by shattering (f1,f2 and f3). Sustained damage by bleeds/burns/… applied by staff, clones.
It pops clones like there is no tomorrow and can stealth quite often. I had great success with it in tpvp in almost all situations.
In big group fights all the aoe shatters deal good condition damage while staff brings some more aoe, conditions and support.
Taking a node from 1 or even 2 enemies is very possible with that beefy setup while they destroy themselves.
Defing a node is possible too.
Npc killing just fine, but slower than other builds.
If you have not tried a condition/shatter build, test it! I t has a deeper learning curve as phantasm spamming but with high reward.

-chaotic dampening to make your awesome staff more awesome
-illusionary persona to confuse shatter your enemies into hell and to get instant interrupt/distortion on demand!
-illusionary elasticity to double your personal staffdps
running it VERY sucessfuly in tpvp. you got good sustained condition damage with staff and staffclones and very good burst damage with high stacks of confusion by cof,mind wrarck and confusing images.
furthermore you get the awesome utility with illusionary persona (best trait in tpvp hands down).

yeah and those people that claim moa is instagip use moa skills.
using skills while moa’d is one of the stupiest things you can do in pvp.
running and dodgeing (read: run faster) will get you safe 98% of the time.

Eicherjw so u’re running quite a max damage build correct? and u said that u’re hitting for 6k crits. Thanks for the details but those don’t explain those 8k+ hits :\
no I’m 80 and it was not like I did not try to get away. the first couple of hits killed me, then I was hit while downed, I rallied and got killed again.
A build explanation or other comments telling me how to get those numbers would be nice.

I’m totally lost and can’t explain this. Even with 100% glass cannon vs 100% glass cannon and 3 orbs and 25 stacks of bloodlust this kind of damage is impossible for me to imagine. I even created a ele for myself to test it in the mists and could not reach those numbers remotely.
Am i missing something? Could you explain this to me so that I can avoid it next time?
