and it gets really close to the old condition op feeling
some minor tweaks in gameplay like timing scepter 2 and using your clones as mines rather than homing missiles.
important:
rabid gear, doom sigils, staff, scepter/torch, prismatic understanding, all condition on clone traits, retaliation with block.
not running ANY condition removal and it works well even against condition necros or engis.

edit: wirt perplexitiy runes of course! you will interrupt very often with f3 and chaos storm + more confusion on hits. It seems the confusion caused by clonedeath does not benefit from the runeset (bug) so with that fixed it will be even more powerful.

imo in wvw the only condition specs that are good are the ones focusing on prismatic understanding and deceptive evasion combined with rabid gear.
try using 20, 20, 30 or 10, 30, 30 with staff as melee weapon and use clones as body blocks/ melee bombs. retaliation works wonders.
IF perplexity runes will work 100%, a revival of the condition shatter would be possible. I would love that.
Oh, also, with scepter and staff clones, it is difficult to get use out of Debiltating Dissipation I think its called. The one with random Condi on death. So, Idk I find this build rough.

Have u ever tried to use the staff offensively? spamming clones/chaosarmor/chaosstorm/winds of chaos while sitting on enemies face? I guarentee you, this is the highest spike damage a condition mesmer can achive since confusion nerf.
Im running staff torch/scepter while I use staff melee and scepter torch as disengage, torment spike. doom on both weaponsets, 10, 30 30, 0, 0 traits.

switch undead runes with perplexity for more lulz.
damage source: bleed, burn, poison, confusion, torment, retaliation
defence: protection, aegis, regen, vigor, stealth, teleports
permaretaliation really destroys some enemies while in 80% of fights your staffclones and their deathconditions will handle the rest.

reentering at least in the right wvw map would connect the two playmodi so much better, why not?
definitely doom. it is such a huge difference I was very surprised. was running earth and corruption and hydro and geo and whatnot but doom on both sets is SUCH a huge increase in killing!
stealthing while bouncing attacks are on the fly or chaos storms are storming is a bad idea.
also stealth != run in the same direction
condition damage scales very well with survivability and mesmers survive with stealth (in wvw).
pu is incredibly useful with a condition build even more so with staff. i’m using 10, 30, 30 build, staff/torch/scepter and the good old 1vs3+ (like before confusion nerf) fights are back
imo gs performs very badly in a condition heavy build. you have quite ZERO damage. only damage sources are your clones stacking bleed and conditions when they die and your shatters (lol).
for conditions on death traits, staff or sword is way better because of clone crowd with staff and melee range with sword clones.
gs condition build would be interesting at best IF clones generated by DE focus the current target, imo.
+ traits that give buffs while <X% hp.

it just does not work with hybrid. its best defence is its offence so go for it or leave it.
I run a Condition build myself, thus i rarely shatter with F4 being the one that is mostly going to be used in a “oh crap im gonna die” situation. The rest are all a bit poor of course that is unless you spec for all of that which i guess would make it a bit better.
That was my point exactly. In a condition build you only shatter f3,f4.
F1 is very contraproductive and even f2 is fail because who wants 8 stacks of confusion dealing ~1600 damage on skill activation (perfect hit) when your clones could do burns, bleeds on a more reliable way (and they are still up while doing so).
I tried to prolong cof duration to see how it works but even 6sec cof is not very useful while destroying your traitlayout :\
a powerfull cof would be so much fun again bringing an offensive condition shatter back in play <3
so I really like to play a confusion centric mesmer and I’m curious about some mechanics.
I guess scepter 3 is buffed by traits, domination points, food and giver weapons?
how does the other confusion sources behave?
like cry of frustration: I see an improvement with points in domination and with food but the +33% trait does not seem to work. Is this a bug or is the tooltip bugged?
confusion shatter was so much fun to play but now keeping those staff clones up is plain better in terms of dps (even more so with random conditions on death).
another question:
do you think confusion is balanced regarding mesmer?
imo everything is fine but cry of frustration is not!
a basic 2 stack of confusion would be nice for example.
or another trait with +xx% confusion damage.
or make +33% duration work with cof :\
would be quite nice IF clones generated by dodge attack target.
of course only speaking about pvp. but can’t imagine it would be another story in pve.
if all clones would attack my current target it would be very impressive. but imo op as well :P
really just play the maximum glasscannon spec 30 30 0 0 10 and you’ll see the difference. conditions are quite potent on mesmer but nothing comes close to power/prec/prowess builds in regards to team viability. you can troll some nice 1vsx fights for the fun but any good opponent could just run away.
one extreme: high damage, less survivability, high burst, good/very good aoe
another extreme: condition damage, high survivability, low burst, almost no aoe
I’ll take first any day in wvw and tpvp. mixing it just gimps your potential. imo
scepter 2 is not the problem imo. the skill does sick damage (biggest torment stack with highest duration on lowest cd in game).
it is the scepter itself that sucks. you don’t have sustained damage. if they evade 2 and mitigate 3 tickling them is the agenda for the next 9 sec.
as long as scepter does not apply a damaging condition on it’s autoattack it will suck. plain and simple.
you can’t just mindless pop it in every situation and expect things to insta-die.

imo bf is still very very potent and the patch got the mh sword more in line with other weapons.
I run gs – sword/torch and it is still (or even more) a blast. you can still bf shatter like before, it is a little bit more dangerous for the mesmer but imo thats good.
if you play in groups join the gs bandwagon.
no need to go into close and personal with mh sword if you could just hammer your aoe skills from 1200 range doing similar or more damage.
everyone should enjoy the gs pewpew until it gets nerfed.. ehm broken again!

imo build diversity suffer from lack of synergy between traits and their placement.

for example 3sec frenzy on interrupt is quite nice with sword/pistol setup. If you use pistol5 early in damage rotation you can get a nice boost. but because of the nerf of quickness it is not enough to justify grandmaster placement :\
if combined with 5might on interrupt it could boost your burst even more…. but then you are no longer a shatter mesmer so burst is meh.
another thing: 5might/interrupt is chaos master trait… more a defence trait line… but it gives 5might?! total fail imo. it should give protection 5 sec or whatever to further enhance your defence with 20/30 points into chaos.
or make another interrupt trait in chaos (defence one) and merge 5might and 3sec quickness in duelling grandmaster. whatever all the interrupt traits just seem a little off…
and scepter oh dear the scepter. now it cannot be used as a power weapon anymore. so give it a freaking damage condition on autoattack, otherwise it will always be total fail. (you know how much damage youre doing versus a target that evades the block and mitigates confusing images? zero)
really want to play something different than shatter mesmer but it just is not worth it.

there was a time in beta where the iMage was totally overpowered and destroyed everything! therefore they have to be very very carefull not to make it too powerfull again!

even if you interrupt 5 people and drop a chaos storm on top of them dazing everyone now what? you got a lot of boons. nice. but you have to go 30 into chaos and skip prismatic understanding which delivers way better boons more reliable.
would really love to see better interrupt traits making a build around dazes viable in all formats (read:tpvp?!). now to be as viable as those shatter centric builds in tpvp interrupt traits have to go a long long looong way :\

So we can hope to see some trait changes in one of the coming patches and a list with the worst traits could help to balance things out.
I remember reading somewhere that devs like top3 lists so lets do a worst3 list!
my personal fail traits:
domination II: “halting strikes”, deal damage when interrupting foes
- ~200 damage does nothing
chaos XI: “bountyful interruption”, gain random boon when interrupting
- grandmaster trait! it should not apply ONE random boon but all of them. or fuse chaotic and bountyful interruptions and add another trait with 30-50% duration bonus to all dazes
chaos VIII: “chaotic interruption”, apply a random condition when you interrupt a foe
- conditions not enough impact, buff conditions applied or fuse with chaos XI
Oh on the mantra thing:

using 100% glasscannon build with 2 mantras (+8%damage) and with a good team your lazers kitten everything. berzerker and other skills are just icing.
but 4 mantras is too risky imo. If you face above average enemies you will be primary in no time and then you need blink and decoy. I even use torch in second set to get to safety. That way my team don’t need to rescue me everytime I’m focused.
(at first I used the mantras just to get more damage to see what can be done with a greatsword but now I really start to love the daze mantra. It is like your enemies can’t heal anymore )

fire > all imo.
sigil of strenght has 2sec cooldown.
air is single target.
force is ok.
but fire improves your burst and it is aoe.
using it with gs with my mesmer and it becomes quite a good aoe weapon

the current attack is just plain fail and even if it is buffed to 5 sec 5 stack it would be not so great (it is blocked, reflected, too slow……….)
a beam with a nice 3-5 stack 5 sec applied over 1-3 sec or something like that would be great imo. screw that retal!

would it not be possible to be hit by shatters from a condition shatter build? I mean the direct damage would be nothing but 25 stacks of confusion would be easy with 3 mesmers coordinatiing their shatters.

either it was in the time frame where shattered might was op or you were hit by 2 confusion mesmers.

confusion in wvw is fine you got plenty of retreats and nobody carey about small dogfihts (aka tpvp).
nerf confusion in wvw? buff mesmer bleed/burn.
it is a l2 kitten ue imo. in small fights you can “sit it out”, in big fights lot of cond removal is at hand.
if confusion gets nerfed in wvw so should other skills, too, leading to spvp skill sets.
I’m fine with that but a confusion only nerf would be lame.
that’s right but other games can track fights very well (eve online for example) so I don’t think it is impossible.
it is just discouraging that the zerg gets all the benefits and the roamers are left behind.
won’t stop roaming, after all it is about the fun with 1vsx fights but it would be nice to get SOMETHING from it :>

because tpvp is quite onesided and fighting on a node is 100% different compared to fighting in wvw open terrain. it is fun but a different story
is it possible to implement a title in wvw to players roaming solo/ in small groups?

dunno about that soundtrack, but 8-bit music is nothing new and there are plenty of “high quality” 8-bit tracks on youtube. try it out if you like SAB music.
regarding the speed/escape issue:
-have a focus in your bag to use it out of combat for swiftness then put back your normal weapon. after some practise that takes like 0.5 sec to do.
-decoy and especially blink (with trait) are very very good escape skills. after stealth go a different direction or blink right behind your enemy (or zerg).
with blink you can often teleport to another level (up a bridge, or a cliff) leaving your chasers behind.
-staff’s “phase retreat” is the best escape skill ever imo. if traitet you can teleport every 5 sec or so keeping you safe from chasing enemies (or zerg) by targeting the enemy chasing you
don’t know your build but I use decoy/blink/mass invis/torch/staff and can outrun whole zergs or escape a tight situation 90%.

I would instantly switch to power/cond dmg build IF there was power/cond dmg/toughness gear.
running in 100% rabid currently and love it. but sometimes I miss the direct damage :\
unfortunately vitality is garbage imo, I tried carrion set and I felt like having that extra vitality adds almost nothing to your survival. that direct damage combined with nice conditions and confusion was very nice tough.
perhaps a mix of knight and rabid would do the trick?
or is there a cond dmg>power/toughness set and I missed it?

would be nice to see the “old” trait description so that everybody can see and weigh the suggested changes more easily.
so it was stated by a dev that the 0.25 gloabl cd on shatters was a band-aid “fix” to prevent the double effect shatter bug.
they said it will be removed once a better solution to that problem was found.
my question: is someone still working on that problem?
the 0.25 global cd really sucks in tight situations and I hope it will be removed “soon”.

For those running my build, I realised that although this build works as a solo roamer, it REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY shines and makes your life easier when you partner with a D/D elementalist. I’ve played with quite a few different classes and this build works best with a partner. Having played with a few D/D ele’s though, it really works best with them.
