I guess I have to read up on the loot table for every mob in every zone.

Vayne, I have a second account…long story…I never play it. But I’m tempted to test out the theory that luck is connected to accounts. Of course, if it’s connected IP’s then it wouldn’t make a difference.

I can’t tell you how many branded charr and humans I killed with my jaw just opening further and further. I was killing them ad nauseum just as a joke because they would drop something like every 30 kills….and it would be a radiant dust. Something is very wrong here.

What I want to know is why I just did an entire map to come out with a few crafting mats, a LOT of whites (mostly duplicates of the same one), a couple of salvage things, and some moldy bags or whatever. There was one yellow and three greens (plus a few more from killing the big wasp and guard). I’ve taken characters through Fields of Ruin several times, all before the patch and at 3% MF, and come with a heck of a lot more than that.

No, I was responding to Daywolf’s fair “time is money” statement. I was just saying that I’ve already spent more on crystals than I promised myself when I found out it was possible to convert gems to gold. I knew right away that I would be spending a little bit more than the box when I saw how fast initial bank space can fill up. But, I wasn’t complaining because other games have a cash shop on top of the box purchase, and I liked the attitude of “we won’t drive you to the cash shop but hopefully you’ll thank us in that way from time to time”. Anyway, this is derailed from the original point of the thread. I was just saying that I can’t afford to go with that philosophy, which at the far extreme, means “heck, just skip map completion and rng worries…just buy that legendary!” Nope…even if I could afford it…not sure how that is legendary. Sorry for the confusion.

Well, clearly the problem is that I’m doing map completion and am currently in mid-level zones. Tonight was Fields of Ruin…one yellow total. Now someone is going to say, “duh…you want lootz, you need to be champ-training and taking temples!”. I just find it odd that the one thing that ANet consistently preaches (go and explore the open world!) is the least rewarding part of the game (unless you’ve never seen these zones and that fancies you). But, I have a feeling that if I was doing the zergs, this post would have never started.

About the TP though, I have spent based on your philosophy about it. I bought up all crafts to 400 just so that I wouldn’t have to deal with it. Now, I can sell mats in order to buy the icy runestones. But I prefer the sub model meaning that I’m ok with spending the same budget…actually $5 more per month since I’m surprised they never raised the fee. Spending $20/month on top of the box is fine, but I don’t have the income to throw this company the kind of money I’ve been spending lately.

I’m moving on to another game….quitting, taking a break…I don’t know. I just need to find something that’s a little more rewarding. Sad to say that they best part of Fields of Ruin was selling the 40 seasoned wood logs at the end. There are plenty of other games that include rng but are a little bit more stable, scaled, predictable, and rewarding.

Actually, Meglobob, that response says it all. From now on, vendoring and TP’ing everything. Then I’ll just buy the ectos. Essences were just for idiots like me who actually thought that increasing MF would bump up bad luck a little bit. But like I said…I swear that drops were better at 3% before the patch, and I didn’t really care about MF either. I’m ok believing that MF goes up but I’m also ok with believing that they reduced all drop rates…kinda’ like how stores increase prices right before the big sale. Thanks!

So how is GW2 these days?

Well, karma has been nerfed in a big way. If you were to get 1,000, nowadays you would get 100. It’s that bad. So, if you want a legendary instead of an ascended, you might be spending those laurels on obsidian shards.

Ok, I’m stuck. There are hundreds of MF/RNG/DR threads, and this is not a whining one. Here’s the deal.

  • I’m working on map completion for the legendary, which also means selling mats (to raise gold for the runestones) and doing most events (for the karma for obsidian shards).
  • I don’t do the champ zergs unless it’s for a daily or just for maybe 15 minutes for the heck of it.
  • I do Scarlet
  • I play about 8 hours a day.

Before the change to MF, I had 3% and received a nice variety of blues, greens, and yellows with the rare occasional white or exotic. (I averaged about 3 exotic drops per week, usually cheap ones but that’s ok because I collect uniques for fun.)

I started this character about 20 days ago and have played 163 hours. In that time, the only exotics that I have seen drop have been from Scarlet. But even Scarlet champs lately have been dropping mostly blue bags/chests. I’m at 87% MF, and when I do maps, I’m getting almost entirely….not blues….whites!! (And by the way, those are rarely salvaging into more MF essences anymore, which I guess is ok given that I don’t think MF actually does much and did better at 3%).

I don’t really want to hear anything about rng. I’ve written a doctoral dissertation heavily reliant on comparing codes for different pseudo-rngs and also know that, at the end of the day, subjective decisions are made from all of this. I understand runs and all of that, but at some point (now), I’m ready to say, “Show me the code or I ain’t buyin’ it anymore”, which they aren’t going to do.

Also, I’m not looking for suggestions on where to farm this stuff. I’m not interested in farming it. If I want to farm stuff, I’ll go play something like D3. I enjoy doing maps, working toward the legendary that way, and don’t see anything written about where MF or DR is linked to what you are farming and where.

I am curious about two possibilities. Someone is playing my account when I’m offline thus driving at DR. A bit of conspiracy theory. Second possibility…DR really is that hurtful at 8 hours a day and you need many days off to reset it. (?) That’s what I want to know because then I would gladly go play something else for a week if that’s what it takes.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Condition or Direct Damage? Oct. 15 (PvE)

in Necromancer

Posted by: gumoor.5674

gumoor.5674

What’s super crazy is the roll’s for direct damage are lots more complex.
Power + weapon damage. roll
Did it crit? roll – What’s crit damage? calc.
Weap Sig for extra 5% dam? calc
Traits/Runes for extra dam? calc (most are below x% mob life, extra check)
Vuln for extra dam? calc
What was removed by armor? Calc

Vs Condi
Condi Dam, Roll, Condi Time. Done.

It’s not that simple. Traiting in curses is not just for the condition damage but also for the precision. Why?

Barbed Precision- Critical Hits have a 66% chance to cause Bleeding (2 sec)
Lingering Curse – Conditions inflicted by scepter skills last 33% longer.
Superior Sigil of Earth +66% chance to inflict critical: inflict bleeding (5 sec)

So, when including buffs and anything I’m forgetting, there is plenty of “Roll”. Regarding the 25 limit, that’s a bit of a problem. But remember that necros can do more than stack bleeds via aoe and death shroud. A common aoe that synergizes with the crit rolls is

Open with staff mostly for the Mark of Blood, switch to scepter/dagger to use as a filler (assuming 25 stacks bleed already up), hit Signet of Spite for multiple conditions, aoe spread with Epidemic, go into Death Shroud and aoe with Life Transfer and Tainted Shackles. Somehow getting bored? Have some fun in Lich Form. Oh and maybe a few more switches to staff if you have Sigil of Geomancy on it and want to aoe bleeding.

That’s the idea, not the rotation that would be used in every encounter. My point really is that bleed builds involve a lot more rolling than just push scepter 1.

Well, I needed about 12,000 more for Lysss’a rabid back piece. Even though I was ready to start leveling in a different game today, I got the idea to go over to Metrica and just test something. There are a ton of events there that go quite fast at 80. I did map completion in a few hours including FE and the pre-events, jumped in on a Scarlet and wound up with 1,000 more than I needed.

So…my conclusion is that there is more than one way to skin a cat. But, I still think the nerf is too much, and I wouldn’t gear an alt that way….not with needing 6+ pieces.

The first dungeon was when I started the game…dropped after the first death realizing that, after playing other mmo’s for years, I was not going to go through the whole noncommunicating-pug thing again. The second was with a guild. Their idea was to find a way to bring in another guildie for the final boss. The third was with another guild whose other four members gave up on the final boss. Whether it’s me, the guilds, the people or whatever…I’m not wasting time on that for karma. If I ever do them again, it will just be for the achievement.

Besides, the karma-nerf affected fractals too, so I think that crab-carrying is still the better investment of time.

Ah, when you break it down over time, it makes more sense. Please don’t get me wrong. I don’t want Anet to just spoon-feed everything, and I’m not a grinder. As a new player, if someone said it would take 6 weeks per piece of temple exotic, I would figure out quickly that I’d better take crafting seriously and craft my own or be ok with buying from TP. I would see this as a bit of a grind and may or may not make it a priority depending on how much I liked the appearance of the gear. (It starts to come across as what they want cultural armor to be.)

The problem is that they set a very different level of expectation. They created a flow where you can really just enjoy the game and have enough karma when you ding 80 to get all five pieces right away. That took out much of the grind and made the game more enjoyable for me. So, what happened? You had three groups….those begging for temple clears to get that gear, those seeing the boxes as a reasonable way to save up obsidian shards, and those who were seeing boxes as an easy way to convert karma to silver. Someone at Anet must have eaten a bad hamburger and decided to punish everyone on account of the third group. This much of a nerf to karma is hardly trivial, and I’m not going to grind activities ad nauseum just to get the temple back piece. Feeling forced to do something in a game has never turned me on, and this company was not aiming for that type of game.

They could have easily raised the price on the boxes. They also could have been a bit more reasonable and just nerfed karma in half.

I’m not an expert in marketing, but this is all striking me as bad moves. It reminds me of two other companies whose games I simply won’t play because they got into a habit of making extreme changes but then reversing course. They aim to please the old-school crowd (grind a million boars the next thing you won’t need after a patch). But you really can’t take a game that has already given out a fair amount of candy, and then try to go back to something like that. Now, you can start out that way from the start like some game attempt to do. But this roller-coaster ride….whew…I just want to grind out that one piece of karma gear and finish the set and move on.

I might play GW1 where I expect the grind. Y’know though, when I over-analyze this, I imagine a bunch of disgruntled employees who are sick of customers complaining and then pulling this as some kind of passive-aggressive punishment. It may or may not be true…but impressions lead to long-term positive or negative branding. I think that when I do switch to another game it may be very difficult to consider just logging into this one to see what’s changed, which implies that I probably won’t support the two main companies involved.

kbenton, before this, earning the legendary was a huge accomplishment that very few had the patience to do without outright buying it. I would just put it on hold or forget it. I think that if they saw this as an “oops”, they would have hotfixed it by now. This is intended for whatever reason. Probably some economic simulation.

Yeah, this is stupid. Lexandro mentioned this hurting the new player. Well, I came back and started at level 1 with next to zero karma. I did map completion and events through the norn areas and through Orr. I didn’t even have enough for a set, so it’s worse than what Lexandro describes.

I had enough for 1.5 pieces of temple gear. The thought of grinding out that much karma when exotics sell for 1-2 G on the TP…ummm….you’d better really like the appearance of temple gear to go through all of that. I broke down and just bought the Khilbron set (Anet’s true intent maybe?). I don’t regret it because I really like that set and it has the stats for a conditionmancer. (You can’t get all 5 pieces with those stats via temples.)

So, now I’m working toward the last thing that I need which is the temple backpiece. (I’m spending laurels on materials.) I just realized that running the crab toss over and over and over is the most efficient way to get the karma. So, now I need 30 more rounds of crab toss and I’ll have that back piece. But I have to say…if I was a new player, I’d feel like this was one of those free-to-play games where they say “well, yeah, free if you want to grind for a zillion hours, but you’ll just break down and buy it”.

I’m really put off by this 900% decrease in karma. I’ll be ok…not going to the ER over it (haha)…but it is pretty nauseating.

I really like Nay’s idea, but another idea is to not craft at all! It’s not like the world will end over three levels and saving money by buying the gear. But I always like to craft in mmo’s. Ironically, crafting is always what winds up annoying me on account of either drop rates or over-leveling what you craft (and now don’t need). No game will ever get this right for the reason usually provided on forums. Crafting is always bottom priority for developers….except right now where this game currently has high emphasis on ascended weapons.

Hawkian, I think dissatisfaction in hunting particular mobs was when a bat dropped a large scale or something weird like that. They don’t let it be too predictable (all about bot-prevention). I just want to play and then maybe find out, “oh, I need a few more bloods”. In this case, it was six hours of playing to see one inscription…and not even a green one. Anyway, I’m over it. Even devessi and I have started a friendship from this mess. But I can see the possibility of changing maps.

Nay, that’s pretty much what I’m going to do. Good idea. Plan the mats. Max the craft right away or have the mats ready at stages. It’s not as ideal as the main doing it, but it’s a really a good Plan B.

That part is an outright lie, and you know it. You are just trying to sugarcoat what you really saw, which was an onslaught on me right away. Yes, I was upset…very upset. No, not one person offered any constructive help. The whole situation would have been avoided if just one person in the community knew anything about conflict resolution rather than how to fuel a fire. I know, because usually I’m the one trying to calm someone down. So, please, spare me the “oh, we tried to help” lie or I’ll post screenshots, including my profanity. Ok, I started a new character with the sole interest of a little bit role-play (mostly background) and the priority of just enjoying the game because that’s what everyone says to do. Just enjoy the experience, don’t rush, and it will all work out, right? Now, here I am at level 53 wrapping up the first of the level 15+ zones (Kessex Hills). I have PLAYED the game…not farmed….played the game in this zone for six hours, and I have enough materials for one inscription. (???) It’s not DR because I’m getting Tier 1 and 3, just not Tier 2. I won’t buy off of the TP because, first, I’m tired of being forced in that direction when that was not what was advertised. Second, it’s against the rules for my character’s lore anyway. So, please, what I am doing wrong. I don’t want to farm certain bosses in other zones. I want to play the game and enjoy the content…and, of course, kill everything in sight for drops. But, this is ridiculous. At this pace, I’ll be level 80, probably in the 35 zones, and unable to craft with Tier 3 because I get literally, next to zero, Tier 2 mats. This is seriously becoming my last straw as I can’t even just enjoy the game even they way they advertise me to play it. I feel like I’m playing a free-to-play mmo where everything behind the scenes is aiming toward the cash shop. But, that doesn’t make sense because I wouldn’t have to use real money. I guess I have to take my gold, convert it crystals, by a cute mini, do a /dance, and uninstall because I just don’t see how it’s possible to craft and just play the game as intended.

And, what was called the big clone of that game, which is is actually a lot Scarlet event with quets….well they have devs show up in chat for like an hour a week to address questions, complaints, suggestions, etc. It’s a big mess of 100 people talking at once, nothing gets accomplished, but the point is that they make themselves visible, which says a lot to the community. I work online and letting the customer know that I’m active, engaged, visible, and present is top-priority!

It’s pretty easy to feel forced to do things you don’t want to do for monthly, but that’s rarely the case when 2/5 dailies are mine some ore, say hi to the laurel vendor, roll a level 1 and get a level and a personal story done in 3 minutes. When salvaging is a monthly option, that’s a bit more realistic of an option for casual play (although some will say that it’s too much to salvage….whatever, it’s over the course of an entire month). There just needs to be a few more options for the monthly, I think.

Also, a problem with Dhuumfire is that there are a lot of fire-resistant mobs in this game. But main reason is because I like bleed-builds. If some poison comes out, it wasn’t planned…and hopefully it sneaks into the wound to make the bleeding even worse (haha).

Anyway, I appreciate what you are saying about the skill; however, I don’t buy that this is all that is going on. I have on too many occasions watched a character stand in a specific spot and grief others with skills. These players have no intent on even racing at all…they are just there “for the lolz”. For awhile, I thought Anet allowed it because, hey, put all the griefers in one place, let them “play how they want to play”, stay there and leave everyone else alone. But, y’know, I find myself all too often making excuses for a company that is just being irresponsible. Not taking cyber-bullying seriously is not acceptable in this day and age. I would not have spent all night debating this with myself and others, if at least I did not take it seriously. So, if I say…ok, it’s just how the skill works…yadda, yadda…I’m basically giving moderators or devs just another excuse to let it continue. (And, no, I’m not denying your explanation of the skill.)

Sanctum Sprint JUMP EXPLOIT !!!!

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: gumoor.5674

It’s not the (exploit) shortcuts. It’s what is being done with the shortcuts. I am an average jumper (good bays/bad days) and always take the normal paths. So, I’ll never come in first, and I’ve gotten used to that fact.

Here’s what happens 75% of the time, and it’s been happening for almost two months now. Those who use the shortcuts and the really-short-shortcuts, collect lightning bolts. They then pick a player to grief by constantly casting the lightning bolts. That player then can not even finish the puzzle because they spend half of the time being zapped.

(Out of curiosity, how is someone getting ahold of that many lightning bolts in the first place?)

I’ve complained about this in map. I understand that there are people who gain pleasure from watching pain inflicted on others. (They are called sociopaths, terrorists, bullies, etc., and they are probably pvp-failures) But, for the life of me, I can not figure out why ANet has not stopped something causing so many people so much misery. for such a long period of time. My night is absolutely ruined every time I have go through this. So, it’s my choice to play it? Then don’t make it part of the daily achievement! If it’s there, I’m going to do it, and then I’m going to rage in map chat, which is hurtful to the community. But if ANet doesn’t care enough to at least curb what is cyberbullying, then why should I care? Where are the moderators these days?

A Title for the 5/5 Legendary Achivement!!

It reminds me of “that other game’s” Loremaster achievement. All that time grinding quests, and it turns out to only be 10 achievement points. Plus, I think these meta-achievements should be character based. But, I’m usually the vocal minority on this one (and I’ve become increasingly against achievement point systems anyway). I’d like to see more mini-titles that show your progress toward a meta…like what’s happening with crafting. Totally for the idea of a checkpoint system with or without achievement points but definitely with titles. They could even be color-coded.

Yeah, when I got the memo about one change, I didn’t know that it had to do with forums and your in-game name. I was really new. So, I changed it to what was in front of me at the time…a Roo Mug from a Kangaroo gas station. Regret that. My name reminds me of slang for a booger or something like that.

Karma Working As Intended Or...?

Well, I have the karma cultural weapons and gold cultural armor…not quite the stats I want, but condition damage / tough (or vit) runes, topaz ravaging trinks…I’m a happy gamer for now…broke, but happy. But, yeah, I don’t see this happening at 60 unless they more realistically align rewards with karma costs.

The only thing that should be out of reach right away is karma and gold gear at 80. There’s no point in having such expensive cultural armor/gear just for skins but having them tiered at different levels. Why not make them all level 80 then?

Actually, I just logged in to see how many Queensdale champs it would take. For some reason, after wasp, oak, and boar, I had more than enough….so…ok, not complaining. I’ll be more cautious about the 60 stuff, but case-closed

I’m probably just beating a dead horse playing a game that isn’t for me. I like to have goals to work toward with rewards that I can use. In this game, map completion awards transmute stones (?), and gear to usually salvage. Hitting milestones (20, 40, etc.) don’t mean anything. Grinding leads to DR. It’s too bad because it really is well-designed game.

Seriously, I’m trying to find out if this is a bug on my account. The last time that I did this, I had more than enough karma for cultural weapons at 40 and 60. It did take a little more work at 80, but it should be that way. But, if they are going to give people something to work for that can’t be obtained, then either make it obtainable or take it out of the game. It’s funny that others complain about not having anything to work toward other than skins that can be purchased with cash. And here we have something that can’t be purchased with cash, that is a goal to reach, but can’t be obtained unless you devote one toon to just being a karma farmer and then let another toon spend it (?) I doubt that is their intention.

Ok, this has been brought up, but I want to provide some empirical evidence.

I rolled a new character who would try to do as many events per zone as were available and that I could handle. This led to the following results:

Queensdale: 37 events (38 if you count doing SB twice)
Metrica Province: 38 events
Wayfarer: 34 events (35 if you count doing Maw twice)
Plains of Ashford: 14 events (probably more since I zerged a little for map completion on this one; never liked this map, but I digress)

So, we see here 123 events plus (but not minus) a few. At this point, I’m level 40, and I’m all excited about getting my level 40 outfit. (Many players do this at 20, 40, and 60).

I decide on the Lions Arch weapons because they have the stats I want right now. (conditionmancer…definitely don’t need all that power at 80 but it’s fine for now).

Guess what? I can’t afford a sceptre, dagger, and staff. Seriously? Really?? That many events and I can’t even get the level 40 karma gear?

Should I grind more events? Oh…but then I level!!! Should I have not bought karma recipes and cooking ingredients? The amount spent there is trivial. Should I have just done one zone and proceeded level-wise instead of doing four 1-15 zones? Then, I could craft it right? No…crafting never keeps up with leveling in this game.

I’m going to assume that this is a bug because there is no way to get the gear that I want. If I do the last 0-15 zone, I will be getting close to 48 or 50. So, what am I supposed to do? Turn leveling off? Can’t do that. Stop enjoying the content, rush my behind to 80, and then buy it later for frills? What’s the point of that? It is ANet that wants me to enjoy the content and not rush. So, what’s the deal here?

I understand if you need to make a little karma nerf, but you reduced so much that I can’t enjoy the best aspect of the game! Spending the karma! So, you have taken away one more reason to play, and I’m grasping to find a reason now.

Sad-face, sad-face, and shame on ANet for clinging so dearly to this punishment model.

Hmmm…this is really making me think about adapting that build a little for more duration beyond the traits. That way, when doing something like a temple, I can focus less on maintaining the 25. We have too many options to just pew-pew. And, open world mobs usually don’t need even 15 stacks….usually. Starting to think that bleed build might be overdoing it.

Ok, first off, I’m asking about pve, primarily solo and open-world. I mix it up with events and temples, but really, my question is about solo, open-world, pve.

I switched to necro because I wasn’t getting what I wanted out of a ranger. I went back a forth between a conditionmancer focusing on crits and bleeds and one focusing on condition duration. I ultimately chose the crit-for-more-blood build.

I’m now leveling a new necro to experiment with spicing it up a bit. I still want focus on bleeds but I’m wondering if it can be overdone to where too much blood is a waste. In that case, I’ll still build something like 30/30/0/10 with rabid but go with condition duration food. (?) Or change things up in terms of runes/sigils/trinks? What do you think?

Is there a way to find out how much of my total or average damage is coming from bleeds? I guess I could analyze the combat log. Is there a good mob for testing purposes? Is there an established limit on the amount of blood damage that one can do? For example, is that 25 stacks from the sceptre enough if of itself? I do notice that my stacks don’t last long and think that more duration would help there.

P.S. Conditionmancer is definitely what I was trying to force a ranger to do for six months and just wasn’t seeing it happen.

That’s true for every class in some way. For necros, if you want a decent Mystic Forge boost, do it in Death Shroud, but only while placing the first three items. I can’t guarantee this but a friend who never lies told me that it seemed to help.

Thanks for the suggestions. I stayed up all night enjoying a rage-quit (mostly because I’ve never felt that urge in any game). It brought me satisfaction, especially to hear that I was not alone in my reasons.

Then, I enjoyed the process of deleting and selling so that I could convert it all into a huge buffet of multiple sets of feasts for everyone in Lion’s Arches. Everyone enjoyed the vast selection of Tyria’s finest. I have little grudge against the game, itself….

but I will never support or recommend anything from this company again. People can handwave that. I’ve seen it before, and I’ve seen the long-term effect of “meh…let them eat cake…let’s just milk this”. And if it doesn’t matter, at least I will have my dignity in check by not supporting this glorified casino.

Best wishes to all of you. This game does have one of the better communities in the mmo industry. Good night.
