A slight buff I was thinking for MS is to have it have a toughness buff when equipped(200 at lv 80?).
Also, I would either make #1 multitarget or apply weakness, not both. And I REALLY like the idea of #3 reflecting projectiles. (Electro

One more thing that I think should be changed in Utilities is the magnetic shield. I think it’d be a lot more viable if it gave a boost to toughness.
As for the auras, I think they need a minor buff, either in duration, or in effect. frost and shocking aura in particular.
Other than that, the changes said here are all solid
we need at least 1 more trait for conjured weapons. I know other things need to be done first, but only one trait is ridiculous.
Of other things:
-minor dmg buff
-fix bugs in arcane powers
-increase # of targets in AOE: I find this stupid. AOE should affect ALL targets in an area, regardless. (At least make ground targeting and raining skills have it)
I’m currently running for utilities: Lightning flash, Cleansing flame, and magnetic shield. As Platypus just said, 3 and 4 are the reasons i’m using it, and with the 2 cantrips, it has good survivability. Still, I really think lightning hammer is just as good, and it’s hard to choose.
Which one is better? I always thought lightning hammer was, until some kid in Straits of Devastation tanked about 20 risen with it.
Opinions on which is superior? also, don’t say frost bow is better than both, I’m not looking to use it.
In all honesty, I thought that it gave the buff when they weren’t attacking via daze, kb, or stun. it’d make sense, since the minor traits in dom are all daze oriented.
I’m sure it’s a bug, but i think the bug is coming from the stacking vuln on interrupt, the max it should do is around 12, but i think if you interrupt, it adds another 9 to it, making it 21. so the extra 4 is a mystery.
And the fact that prestige doesn’t drop aggro is ridiculous. that needs to be fixed.
You can’t automatically call Mesmer crap in DPS: it depends on the build. we are the most diverse profession in terms of builds, ranging from support to stealth, dps to tank.
I will agree though, it is fairly difficult to make a pure DPS mesmer. I’ve been trying for some time and the best i could come up with is precision bleed spamming.
get illusionary persona and signet of illusions.
Combo:
cast 2 clones and a phantasm, get close to target , F2 = 11 confuse stacks
use signet of illusions then mirror images, get another clone, F2 again + scepter confuse stacks, instant 24 confuse stacks. Have fun.
I actually aply so much confusion through shatters that i barely use the scepter for that, so i kinda use the gs for its cripple and vulnerability stacks.
Even more fun way of doing it. get 20 in domination, with the vuln on shatter and whatever else you want and 20 in illusions. get 3 clones and hit F3. if it’s an interrupt, it’s somehow 25 stacks of vuln due to the minor dom traits.
Combine both ideas. that might be OP.
The traits that cause X condition when clone is killed, seems to not work. I’m regarding specifically the random condition one, and I know it doesn’t apply when shattering.

Unless it’s working differently in-game. So a 4x Diversion (with IP) will stack:
4 (rending shatter) + 4 (minor trait for vuln on daze) = 8
Interrupt will happen a max of once, so 9 stacks. Elasticity MB will add 9 more stacks. If you rollface F1/F2/F4 you will get more stacks, particularly if you combo with Mirror Images or other illusion-generation abilities.
If that’s the case, it is most likely broken. I consistently get 25 stacks in PvP. maybe the vuln. on interrupt is like 3 per daze? im not sure.

EasymodeX, I go the trait in Dom that gives 3 vuln per shatter. that’s 9. then dazes apply 3, another 9, and if it interrupts, another 3, so 21. w/o the 2nd skill. it’s amazing.
Alright, I’ll go through the list:
1. I can’t argue with you there about the iMage. it does nothing useful, but that doesn’t put torch in the useless category. prestige can throw many people off(esp. thiefs).
2/3. Yes, confusion is build dependent but i suggest you try 20 in domination and 20 in illusions. get 3 clones, then hit F3. if you interrupt, congratulations! 25 stacks of vulnerability, and 3 confusion. it’s worth it.
4. MIRROR IMAGES. i don’t know why not to use it, unless you go decoy, for some reason.
5. I think it’s fine the way it is.
6. I agree. it’s kind of ridiculous how we have a shatter and a few fields for aoe. definite problem
7. Mantras either A) need cast time reduction and/or to be reworked completely. the heal is weak, the dmg is ok, the stability is weak, and the daze is the only other one worth using, and it’s not that good.
8. I think it’s fine as a trait point, only because everytime i hit diversion, I see 25 stacks of vuln.
It looks wonderful, but I only have one question, why blink? decoy is already a wonderful stun-breaker, and you also have mirror images. personally, I suggest a glamour field, as they help your duelist stack confusion.
Wait, use null field. there goes your boon condition problem.

Glamours. feedback is the better IMO, because veil is very specific, portal is a wvw thing, and null field is out done by the disenchanter.
All the others I enjoy playing around with. they all have their unique purposes, but aren’t too specified(except illusion of life. someone needs to explain why it’s there.)
It’s up to you but going 30 in the dueling trait line(precision) is absolutely crucial for duel swords. i go with the +50 precision with swords and the clone at dodge roll. the last one is up to you, because it’s gonna depend on your utility skills. as for the other trees, power is wonderful, but you might be too squishy.
another thing is greatsword needs to be shatter oriented. it’s the only way i can play it.

This has always been the case, and will always been the case. If you want to run a build with 3 phantasms out doing damage, I highly suggest not using mainhand scepter.
LOL this is absolutely best advise I’ve ever get. Which weapon should I use?
I have sword&sword and scepter&pistol. If no scepter I can choose only staff or greatsword. Both are dualwield, so if no scepter, no pistol, no duelist. In phantasm build very good option. :-(
The whole problem is, that there is NO OTHER weapon as appropriate substitute of scepter.
But there is no problem with scepter overal, there is a problem with override high dps phantasm with clone, which is not for dps.
In boss fight I cast 3 phantasmas and then I go for coffee becasue I have no range skill.
I suggest going sword/pistol and scepter/sword. pistol with the stun and the fact that it doesn’t autospam clones helps duelist immensely. I only suggest scepter/sword so that you still have a high dmg phantasm, and 2 blocks is quite helpful.
but yea….. we really need mainhand pistol.
I must be the only person who actually enjoys torch. I do think focus traited right is amazing, and pistol is extremely effective, but I more often than not use sword/torch effectively. I get 1 invulnerability, 1 invisibility, and now the mage grants retaliation, effective in melee combat. add in the clones, and a shattering build, and torch does work.
Does anyone else find it odd that ether fest’s standard heal does almost double than that of the others? i can understand it being better than the mantra, but as of now, Mirror, which i would love, does nothing. I think they need to buff mirror and maybe tone down ether fest. just a bit.
In what way is it underpowered? the strength of mesmer is its specialization of role. while there “are no roles” in GW, mesmers can be built to be some of the best off-tanks i’ve ever seen, can play offensive support, ruining the enemy’s chance to attack, and overall is extremely versatile. You have to find a niche for yourself, as the mesmer doesn’t truly have one.
