@Arghore You’re right! I totally forgot about those Quaggans! I guess you could say they’re fishy as well! Good find!
I don’t believe that the dragon is an illusion. That seemed very real to me. What is interesting is that Anise and Canach both seem to have that same philosophy of “whatever the cost to succeed.”
Regardless, she’s a mysterious, if not fishy, character.
I actually believe it’s Anise who’s the “traitor.” Fort Salma was in Human lands, while the raid on Concordia was directed toward the caravan holding the Queen’s locket. She certainly seems like the character who would go to extreme lengths for what she deems right.
I don’t know about her being a “traitor” though. On one hand she may have sent a dragon to injure the Pale tree to get the Summit to succeed. On the other she had some shady side talks with Canach that may infer she truly is working against Tyria.
So by the end of this episode we learn there is a traitor among the Summit, does anyone else believe it’s the countess? I get she’s supposed to be a mystery of some sorts, but her conversations with Canach at the Summit are downright suspicious. Also keep in mind that in the previous episode Mordrem’s minions attacked the caravan with the Locket, that very few should know
Does anyone else think evidence is pointing towards Anise being the traitor?
SYS is a personal boon gain for the guardian though, I think the real boon gain for the party in that situation came from the Ele’s aura multiboon sharing (fury, swiftness, protection, elemental attunement one) and shouts like Stand your ground (retaliation and stability, works wonders with high-power parties O.O ) and Hold the Line (Prot-Regen). Plus, one of them maybe had 15+ points in Virtues and… more retaliation, more protection/might/regen. On top of that, a possible party-wide Might on crit from Empowering Might… 6/8 constant might uptime.
There you are. Boons orgy.Just saying, if that Ele knew what he was doing, he was giving almost more boons than the guardians.
I couldn’t really tell whether the Ele was stacking more boons than the guardians or not. I know we had perma swiftness, fury(those would be from the ele), like 6 stacks of might, aegis, and protection.
But yes, I’ve seen and played boon support ele as well, and it’s imo the best boon giver in the game.
So this might not be put in the right place, but here we go.
I was doing TA Exploratory a few days ago, and my team consisted of 3 guardians, me(mesmer), and an elementalist.
Now i’ve played with 4 guardians before and had nothing extraordinary happen, but this run was quite different. I’m not too sure about the exact builds of the 3 guardians, but they were running shouts and healing.
The boons were EVERYWHERE. there was not a second in the first 2 times we ran through that we didn’t have almost every single boon on us. Our d/d Ele (happened to be running 30 water
) was destroying. by the third run, i had an idea.
I switched to the signets of midnight and inspiration. and i promptly realized that it was not only completely op, but it also made it really difficult to see the top left corner of our screens.
Long story short, I’d guess, is that is there any ridiculous situations like this that’d you’ve been in as a Mesmer?
And how exactly are we going to nerf it? All this thread is is complaining if it’s op or not, and not how to fix it IF it is op. Do we set it back to what it was before, where it was honestly useless? Or do we bring it down to 2 stacks per clone, or 3 regardless of how many clones?
I agree that this needed a buff, but it might be too much of a buff. I figure Anet is trying to test out buffing shatter to see what it would do to the community.
And if Mesmer needs a buff so terribly, why not buff other builds? The whole reason I found mesmer interesting is because of how versatile you could build a mesmer, from shatter, to phantasm, to stealth and even mantras. Don’t take that away Anet.
are you kidding??? the normal human reaction is 200ms so being able to drop 2-3 clones in a second means any human will take at minimum 600 ms to identify the real Mesmer. Now factor in the ability to swap places with the clone and invisibility and then dodge clones this becomes an insane number, now factor in all this together and on a continuous basis over 60 seconds a human would need to identify and attack the correct target once every 1.5 seconds continuous to stay sustainable vs any other target except thief. And even at that you will only successively land an attack once every 3 attacks. Name one class that burns a Mesmer down without being a 1 shot spec?
You forgot one thing. AOE can absolutely shred the clones. It’s frustrating to cast mirror images and a 3rd clone, only to have an ele rip them to pieces. Plus, all the reaction times you are spouting are implying IF the player acts similar to the clones, which is false. I both play with and against mesmers often, and It is not impossible to find the real one.(unless stealth comes into play).
The first time I experienced this was during the lost shores event. Me and some other random mesmer got ourselves stuck near the ori node, and were there for a good 10 minutes. It was only then did I find the solution. Just try using blink and portal to get out, it works 95% of the time.
And yes, I get stuck everywhere
. It’s irritating but every now and then it saves my life.
Am I an idiot, or did the patch regarding spawning phantasms was implemented? Not the cast time, but whether blind and evading cancels a phantasm spawn. I swear if they don’t fix that, I’m going to lose it.
@purple- It sucks that we’re forced to run focus for the speed boost. I feel so gimped whenever I run sword and I’m not using focus in Orr, simply because of the lack of speed.
But tomorrow’s patches might contain more reliable speed boosts for mesmers, and hopefully a buff to torch.
I run something similar, but I run power instead of crit.(my build revolves around daze). I have 2 suggestions for you.
1. Run 0/20/25/0/25 and switch to mirror images. I only run decoy when i’m running a full stealth build, and mirror images help with shattering, since you could be doing quite a bit. plus, the extra might is always welcome
2. Switch your signet for another manipulation. This is purely preference, but i don’t usually see a significant difference when running it.
For what suggestions you guys said, Many of them seem good.
@Disastro- Definitely agree with the not changing base damage. It’s supposed to be weak power wise. As for the change with the damage, I feel like it’d be too similar to vulnerability.
For prestige, It’d be awesome if it crippled on exit, but i don’t know how it could be made plausible. But it’d be noteworthy
(PS. have you tried running a full stealth build? It’s really good for pve, and it’s ok in WvWvW)
@Cirroq- Completely agree. the fire proc needs to proc regardless, that’d make it interesting when you roll out of it, making it the opposite of the elementalist’s evasive arcana.
The mage definitely needs a buff, but i feel it isn’t as useless as people say. I normally use it right after using leap, but before swap, so that i get retaliation as i open the fight. Plus confusion hurts. especially fast hitting mobs.
So it’s no secret that Torch is widely considered the worst offhand weapon set for mesmer. Personally, I disagree. After playing around with Sword/torch for over 3 weeks, in pve and dungeons, i’ve found some things it’s good at.
-The mage- While it was buffed some time ago to be a 3X3 confusion, Mage is still the worst damaging phantasm at our disposal. (excluding disenchanter and defender) However, with the buff came Retaliation, and that gives it a great support role for melee fighters.
-Prestige- What i’ve noticed is that almost EVERYONE hates this skill, simply because you sit there for 4 seconds while you get pounded by aoe. While the execution may be annoying, It does have a very good use. It’s TWO blast finishers. Yes, that’s right. The Aoe blind at the beginning counts as one, and the reappearance after is one. This makes it absolutely wonderful with an ele. 2 Mass heals? check. in a fire field, 6 stacks of might for everyone, etc.
So don’t sell this weapon short, simply because people say it’s useless. it most certainly isn’t.
In terms of dungeons, I feel that mesmer is a better choice to go. The sheer amount of versatility in the support area is more than welcome. Feedback, null field and even veil have their own unique uses that set it apart from ele. Also, whenever I play with friends who run ele, they tend to complain that they’re tied to cantrips, and have no room to change them.
Another major boon that many people forget mesmers have is boon removal. As far as I know, Necro is the only other profession that has this. and we have on multiple levels. the sword auto attack, Null field, the Disenchanter, and even Arcane theivery all help to get rid of a boss’s boons. Quite useful in higher fractals.
Now, I’m not saying Ele is not viable in anyway, I just feel that Mesmer can bring more support (and dmg imo) to the table in Dungeons than the Ele can. (Although, the DD aura support spam is godly when someone else is built to take the boons.)
If you think there’s no staffs, there’s only 1 torch.
Granted, as many might be undiscovered, and I think torch is fairly unpopular.
I honestly believe that RNG just hates some people. I’ve never gotten a precursor, and the only exotic item i’ve ever looted from a chest(besides lost shores and 1 i got from fractals) was a deer in frostgorge sound. (It was a kitten bad scepter though.
I can certainly agree that 1v1 DD ele duels are some of the best entertainment I’ve seen ingame.
And the person you dueled might have been a mate of mine in the guild. Not too sure, but he kept ranting about his drawn out duel against this “Frickin Ele.” (I don’t listen to him when he’s like that :P)
PS. anyone try and watch a duel between mesmers? Yea, by 12 seconds, you have no idea what’s going on.
Orichalcum jewelry is currently up to 3.5g for most of them, with the exception of opal. Considering you need 5 ectos (~1.6g,), 5 orbs (no more than 20s), and minimum 14 orichalcum ingots(dunno, ~1g?), you can make a decent profit, 70s if you buy all mats. Salvaging ectos cuts this down severely, as does ori node farming.
So yea, Jewelers right now are viable for profit.
You run the exact same trait lines as I do(20/0/30/0/20). There’s 2 options you can do.
One is to switch to a stealth build, where you put in decoy and maybe even run sword/torch. The last Chaos trait should be the longer cloak. If you’re going to solo, this is a great thing for survivability, and the dps doesn’t drop a ton. but you might want to drop the 15% illusion dmg because it only affects physical, not condition, meaning it only helps warlock. Idk what you could replace it as though.
The other one, or you could mix it in, is to focus more on Vulnerability and shattering, specifically the F3. Run the shatter stacks vuln, and removes boons for the power trait line. This really helps against soloing bosses and those who stack boons like crazy. the other change that could be made is the 33% confusion adding. it helps when you shatter often.
As I still run this build, I at least suggest switching to have a core in shattering. It doesn’t make it a shattercrazy build, but the added vuln and confusion helps with dps. Also, for Orr, run Signet of illusions, especially if you use defender. it really helps. just don’t use it on dungeons, it doesn’t help.
Hope this helps!
Blur only comes from the sword skill, and you have to activate it in order to gain blur, thus confusion does apply. also, I’m fairly certain all condition damage goes through blur, but not distortion.
I run torch. constantly.
I also run a stealth based build. that focuses on healing. but i don’t use it for support.
I tend to hit only the 2 button with staff.
I use chaos storm on one mob.
I haven’t used scepter since October.
I’ve never hit F4 before.
During the karka final event I put out 3 clones, went out to lunch, and came back to still have all 3 (true story, that event took FOREVER).
I purposely put portals in random places in LA so people get lost.
I’ve used mirror. once.
WE should make a commandment list for these! “Thou shalt not use Torch” :P
I just recently tried this out in fractals. And I will say that it was bad. for 2 reasons. The first is the range of the aoe heal is fairly small, maybe 8 feet, which isn’t enough when your party is dodging everywhere. second issue is the fact that you either have to run harmonous mantras, or 4 mantras so that you have a decent string. it made it difficult because i’d always be interrupted while channeling, and since mesmer has no stability, it wasn’t working.
I’d say for future patches to make the radius a bit bigger, and hope for a stability skill.
I was wondering if anyone has run the build before. It’s the one where you put 20 in vitality to get the restorative mantras, and all you do is spam them for aoe healing effect. I remember this build being discussed some time ago, but I never found an actual build.
Does anyone have a build that they’ve used to run this? it’d be much appreciated.
Tip: as far as I know, Blink is the only meaningful action that doesn’t stop the channeling of your mantras, otherwise the only “safe” way to recast them is after Mass Invi, or decoy if you take it.
That might be the only action that doesn’t prevent it, but stealth is another great way to get off mantras. decoy and mass invis have just enough stealth for you to finish the mantra charge.
Anyone who wants an interesting cond build should check out mine on the build thread. It seems counterintuitive when you just look at it, but it lives for freaking ever.
And I might be conceptually stupid, but why go for DPS on a cond build? I know the crit builds spam bleeds, but is that considered a cond build?
It’s not very viable, but they do have some uses.
Going 30 in the Vit tree and taking the skill that heals allies when used is a good dungeon healer. I think i got around 1.2k every cast, couple that with phantasm regen and it’s decent.
The other common way is the way Davy said, is a full power/Crit build. which is pretty good, i have no experience in this one, but i’ve seen it used a bit.
Other than those 2, it’s pretty much pick whatever number you want plus the traits you want. The only thing i recommend in pve is staying away from mantra of pain, it’s worthless. Personally, i use the heal and condition removal untraited sometimes, simply because my main build lacks it. But it’s up to personally preference. (Also, they need a buff.)
As an addition to what PyroAtheist said, We also run one of the meanest condi builds in the game, all the while having some of the best survivability in the game.
And Guardian is OP in PvE in ALL aspects, i’m sorry. When you’re in Orr, and your friend goes afk for 10 minutes, and he gets attacked by 10 or so risen, he should die right? Wrong. he comes back and notices half his health gone. proceeds to 3 shot everything. Annoying
But anyway, Mesmer is no way conceptually inferior to all the other professions. You just have to use your brain to actually make the build.
The best benefit to Mantras is the fact that once charged, they can be used at ANY time (stunned, kb, daze, etc). As far as healing, it’s the only mesmer one that does this, and one of the few in the game.
Other than that, Mantra of pain in sPvP is great at finishing off people.
Daggers have more of an Assassiny feel to them. it just doesn’t seem like a weapon of choice nobles would use.
I mean, 2 nobles get into a fight. 1 pulls out a sword and a focus. that’s plausable. the second guy pulls out a dagger and torch?
It seems like a nice idea, but like you said with pistol, it just doesn’t fit the aristocratic dueliest.
The minute I read i’m running sword/focus and staff, i stopped.
OF course you’re an unkillable god of PvE when you use those two combos. it’s practically cheating. I will say that taking a billion mobs with them is harder than the +10 boss though
(I’m not harassing you on what weapons you use, i use that combo as well, but it’s kind of good that someone else realizes how freaking amazing they are
)
Sword dagger is a good one to try. it doesn’t drop the shadowstep of sword, and it still has a ranged and stealth. and the dual skill is pretty damaging in itself.
So i’d say give S/D a try. You won’t be hitting 3 all day.
Here’s my take on mh pistol:
1. 3 part autoattack that stacks weakness(questionable)
2. Single target blind with a clone spawned right next to you
3. Targeted AOE “rain of illusionary bullets.” Seriously, we need this. our only aoe like it is chaos storm, and that’s not known for damage. think of the ranger’s rain of arrows, but it stacks confusion, or something instead.
For the aoe, take a look at the idea I proposed in the initial post. It seems a little bit more ‘mesmery’ than a simple bullet rain, and doesn’t have a duration, and so doesn’t need someone to stand in it to take full damage. Additionally, I want to stay away from any sort of damaging conditions associated with pistol, because it should be a power based weapon, not a condition damage based weapon, and putting confusion onto the aoe is counterproductive in that regard.
If it was to be a power set, then definitely drop the confusion, but I’d still like it to be a raining skill. Maybe not a long duration(2-3 seconds), but it’s something we’re missing in our toolkit.
Behold! A mesmer build that actually uses stealth! *GASP
The build itself is center around staff’s spamming of conditions and boons, and the supplements of the shatters.
Now, You might be asking, “Why blink, and veil? and traited?” The answer is actually simple. dropping aggro. My biggest problem has always been my clones not receiving aggro due to me having an overwhelming amount. the cloaks help circumvent this. another benefit is the ability to easily revive people, which surprised even me.
For the domination trait line, they are completely subjective to what you want? For dungeons, ripping boons off was more helpful than not, but it can be substituted at will. The only thing that is necessary is to have the 20 points in domination. why? because your worthless F3 shatter now stacks 25 vulnerability, that’s why!
As for armors and stuff. I used to run full Carrion with Monk, simply because the addition to damage and health was good. And then Apothecary came out.
Apothecary is THE Go-to set for this build. it has healing power, toughness and condition damage. the toughness is always welcomed, and more toughness adds to condition damage, a double bonus. But why healing power? With the large amount of toughness you have, your health isn’t as high as other builds. With almost no vitality and full apothecary, an uncloned ether fest pretty much gives you 3/4 of your hp back. All the more tankier. without sacrificing damage.
So yes, I quite possibly run the strangest build on these forums, but just because it doesn’t fit the standard glass cannons or bunkers doesn’t mean it’s ineffective!
Mesmer’s tend to best play offensive support. Let the Water Ele deal with the healing. We can CC the crap out of pretty much any enemy in the game, so healing for us becomes obselete.
However, if the skill becomes unbugged as you say, then running support might be viable.
When I run shatter builds, they tend to be more support oriented (in dungeons at least) and i end up taking imbued diversions, and rending shatter/shattered concentration.
How could someone possible miss the opportunity of stacking 25 vulnerabilities, to MULTIPLE targets. It’s insane.
By shatter condition, i mean condition/shattering. I run staff, which is mostly the condition aspect, but yes, i do use shatters to stack confusion (and F3 for 25 stacks of vuln).
So it’s more of a condition spamming build with shattering as a supplement.
I don’t know about you guys, but i found it hilarious during the southsun events when i was revived, and about 15 people were gathered around my downed clone, only to have 2 veteran karkas kill them all!
The only thing that actually needs to be changed is to have them immediately disappear after you get up. is it that hard?
How about a mantra that gives all nearby enemies all conditions and all nearby allies all buffs? that’d be some team support.
If i remember correctly, the regen does work, but 1, it’s only phantasms, obviously and 2, the radius the regen is applied is quite small.
An easy way to test it is to click on a phantasm of yours. the traits that grant a boon to it should show the boons there.
That’s all I know. it worked pre Nov. patch, but i haven’t tried it since.
It’s not that they’re unviable, it’s just that pure glass cannon (i’m talking not one point in toughness/vit) tends to have a difficult time with the amount of enemy aoe present. I’ve seen a tanky glass cannon build(contradictary, i know) that worked fairly well, but that was because he was always the farthest away.
So, from personal experience, I can’t say whether they’re unviable, but from other mesmers, a little added survivability is needed.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen the dying need to go 30 illusions for IP. granted, as I tend to run the oddest builds ever, but they work. Currently, i’m running 20/0/30/0/20 and a staff. Yes, it uses shatters quite a bit (who doesn’t enjoy 25 stacks of vulnerability
) but it isn’t constant shattering.
But seriously, the skeleton build for shattering does feel confining on a build, but we’re mesmers. we have quite possibly the MOST variety in builds in the game, excluding weapons.
Yea. I’m currently running some twisted staff condition/shatter build (ever seen a mesmer trait stealth? I do
) and it works just fine.
I’ve seen a few use other builds, but the majority were tanky or bunker builds, and i heard one complain that glass cannon simply doesn’t work.
So yea. Anything with survivability and synergy should be fine.
All this talk about the conjures(so far my favorite util to use), and we forgot one. Magnetic shield is in desperate need of a buff. a CD to be exact. like someone just said, waiting for the cd’s sucks, especially on Magshield. At least reduce the cd on some of them.
Also, does anyone ever use Flame Axe? I’ve seen it once, and it was a lv 7.
That’s what it’s supposed to do. Problem is: iSwordsman has an attack cooldown of 4.5 seconds both with and without the trait.
“This trait now works”? Uh, no it doesn’t.
I think it was mentioned a long time ago that certain phantasms don’t receive the benefit. disenchanter, defender, and swordsman were i think the 3 that they said wouldn’t be affected.
Ok. I realize that no one probably uses this skill ever, but with the recent patch, Portal now has the same cd as it.
Would it be the end of the world to simply reduce the cooldown on veil? From 90 to maybe 60, heck I’d take 75.
I know, i’m the only one who asks for this, but with my cloak build, having it have the same cd as mass invisibility(an elite skill, mind you) is just depressing.
I’m agreeing with the way they screwed over CM and the like, but there’s one point we’re kind of missing: scaling of money.
Remember when we first started that gem exchange was like 26-100? yea, now it’s double. the Dusk was only 100 gold instead of god knows what it is now. Anet is having to deal with the problem of inflation, which is why they probly added diminishing returns to help circumvent this.
Of course, that’s no excuse to ruin the gameplay of the dungeons. And with that, it’s getting even harder to play dungeons when they’re unlocked, making it near impossible for my lv 59 ele to even beat a single dungeon.
2 questions.
1. why are you running both hawk and eagle? (seems a tad redundant?)
the other is more relevant:
2. Why are you running exactly 15 points in the Beastmastery trait line? IMO, there’s better places to put those points(then again, I don’t really enjoy buffing pets, so it’s up to you)
