Why are mesmers designed to be "thief food?"

The thing is that Thieves literally need no setup for their burst damage. Always starts with an Elite that let them deal free damage for 1,5 seconds, then use AAs that deal a lot of DMG, then or continue spamming dodge or go back to invis to prepare for more constant spike damage without any effort. And yeah, they can restart fights as they wish with all the blinks and stuff.

Mesmers at the other hand need to heavily setup do deal damage. They can’t just jump and explode someone, because first they need to land some buggy skils, set up their clone perfectly and wish that they don’t bug with the terrain or get killed with one blow from some random ele on water, then perfectly time their dodges/panic skills, time their daze and shatter, and it all in the only 3s window after the thief almost killed them by pressing 2 buttons.

For Mesmer, is try to burst or get bursted, and as much as I hate to complain about a certain class more than learning how to counter it, I only see the Mesmer’s playerskill counting here in the end…

Yup, I know PU will never be like Shatter, I just said that it can be played aggressively like a shatter spec if you use the traits to do so.

Idk, I don’t belive that one spec can be better than another, but different specs can exceed in some points that others can’t, and that is for any clkittenter can be the most (and only) viable build, but it has weakness, and you canalways work around that, right? So, Power PU can be the same. With Shatter, Thiefs eat you in a combo, with Power PU, you can finally make a fight, sometimes a thought one, but at least you can react….

Well, in the end it will always be more about the playstle. I play GW2 for 2 years and I don’t even know how to burst with a thief, but I know how to burst with Power PU.

Also, against a Con Pu you just have to run away, right? Like, I always thought it was like this: if you don’t fight, you don’t win and you don’t lose. Con PU doesn’t has chase capability or damage/cc to kill while someone running…

Yeah, GS is enough for damage. But idk, I feel that if you want to run PU with a phantasm build, the torch will not fit right because it doesn’t provide a really good damaging phantasm…

You have cleanse and furry on phantasms. Open up with the GS rotation and keep the presure, if the enemy get close go for some sword DPS (the strip boon on AA is really good imo, and the autoatack is good too as you going to have a good amount of toughness and will be able to do some AAs) while your iZerk keeps doing the job, and abuse of invis.

Buuut as I said, the torch really feels out of the build… another offhand would be a lot better than torch even with this last build that you’ve made…

Maybe Fay has a batter feedback, but I really don’t know how it could work well….

As a Power PU mesmer, you need to have a complete different playstyle from Con PU.

Con PU is more about a passive playstyle. You just spam your illusions and start to dance till the enemy kill himself trying to get you. You use your invis all the time just to… like, literally do nothing.

Power PU is more about an aggressive playstyle. You play as any other shatter spec, but you have a great utility tool at your favor: Invisibility + the boons that mesmer doesn’t usually have + time to set up your damage + more reliable escapes that mesmer will never have besides a 90 sec skill (ok, Phase Retreat is very reliable, but some people just don’t want to go staff for the rest of their lives). You may not have all the fast shatter burst damage, but you can maintain pressure in a fight while timing your skills plus your invis to always have the advantage. You just stick on top of your enemy, pressuring him with constant damage and your shatters, while going invis to set up more pressure or just to get yourself out of pressure more easily.

Yeah, any PU build is more forgiving compared to others mesmers builds, but atm I think that it is what Mesmers need more, because being in a team that have to babysit you all the time is just lame.

Analyzing your build, I just see another Phantasm Build mixed with PU. Your Illusions will deal damage to you, while you just sit back with GS spamming 1 and 4, using blink to go even further away, and I presume you will use your torch to only get away from stick situations… Work your build around something more shatter based, not a Phantasm Build.

Also, if you’re going so deep in a amazing trait line that gives you so many utility to synergize with the playstyle you want, why don’t use it? Debilitating Dissipation isn’t just about condition, you can apply Vul and Weakness too! It’s not a bad trait line to consider as you’re going to use invisibility a lot and your enemy will kill every illusion just to find you. And get Deceptive Evasion. This trait is a must have for every build.

What's Life Like For a Mesmer Main?

PvE: I just play for the eye candy. When I’m surrounded by the same boring warriors, some basic Fire Mages and guys with some random blue spells, I feel the need to pick something with more personality. But in the end it’s not useful at all because I will not deal 13k damage in one skill or provide a lot of might/boons (haha, seriously? Reflection Mesmer?) for my allies, maybe some bugs (jk it always happens) and a dead body to be revived for sure, but thats all . Remember: it’s just for the eye candy.

PvP: It gets boring to play the same and only viable build for 2 years, you know? Really, there ins’t a lot of diversification. Maybe… PU. But well PU is the same as not playing at all so, well, as I can’t play with the “most viable build” because in the current meta it’s almost unplayable, and because I don’t have any other options to play with my mesmer in PvP, I can say thats is just for… the eye candy!

I’ve been playing Mesmer for a long time. It’s my most played profession in PvP, and I never thought that Mind Stab is “meh”. This skills is awesome! When that warrior/ele/w/e starts to get those instants 15 stacks of might, or when you see someone running around with stability, you just time your Mind Stab correctly and “puff”, there it goes that precious boon so fast that the guy doesn’t even notice. And how many times I used this skills as a finisher attack and exploded someone? This skill isn’t bad as it is.

Mesmer has A LOT of boon removal: Sword and clone sword, traits, a BIG AOE utility and an unblockable one, and you want even more? I think that Mind Stab is good as it is, and yeah, it could have a blast but… add more 2 boons removals doesn’t make sense at all for GS that is supposed to do heavy damage, not utility like Sword or Staff/Scepter. It would be a HUGE buff, but for what? This class has a lot of boon removals already.

Well, I sincerely think that we don’t need new things for Mesmers. What we need is ours bugs to be fixed, thats what we need.

Oh, and you can cancel Mind Stab animation when it lands. It’s almost like you’re walking if you cancel it correctly. Idk how I do it, I got used to it somehow… But you have to press 3 really fast and then press A/D or W really fast too to cancel the animation.

Me and my friend tried a lot of times to make black characters, but its really hard with the options for faces, specially for girls, where you don’t either have good hairs or good faces to make them look like a black person.

So the only option is to make a Black Norn. At least is (always) easy to make any Norn alt.

I’ve been playing a mesmer since beta and it’s still my main class. I absolutely love the mechanics and gameplay involved with illusions, misdirection, and shattering. My question is, why are literally all mesmer skills bugged still? They’ve been that way for a LONG time and it’s just really disappointing that only a few bugs have been fixed.

I could go on and on, listing every bug I’ve witnessed playing as a mesmer but I’d rather just talk about the more frequent ones that occur with me and cause me quite a bit of frustration: 1- clones exploding before reaching the target, cutting my damage by quite a lot 2- the focus 4+5 combo field and finisher, just… 3- Sword 3, where the illusion can’t even climb up stairs. Need I say more?

Those are the ones that come up most frequently while pvping and if at least one of these happen while pulling off some kind of shatter + blurred frenzy burst, you lose so much damage. Have it happen over and over again in the same game and you just feel defeated, like no matter how well you play, bugs are literally ruining your gaming experience. It bothers me that just about every other class can move fluidly while in battle but mesmer abilities feel stuttered and slow.

Come on, it’s season 2 already, and I’m sure every mesmer player agrees with me that these bugs are ruining the game and that it’s time to do something about it. Mesmers need some love.

GW1 Region Block?

I started playing Guild Wars 2 at release and the more I played the more I became excited about its lore and history.
The problem is that I would love to be able to play the first game and play through everything that happened before GW2 but every time I try to buy the game from the NCSoft store using paypal, I get an error message, and when I try to buy it on steam I get the message “This item is currently unavailable in your region.”
Since I live in Brazil I’ve been through this before but is there any way around this? I would really love to play this game, any idea how I can buy it in my region?
