D/D is good for soloing supply camps and ganking Dolyaks. In big group fights Elem = Static FIeld and D/D doesnt have that.
If you ever find a minmaxing guild that takes an Elem (they shouldnt) at least do the only usefull thing you can.
2 war
this is the problem…..
Stating Elems are fine because they suck less if party sucks is interesting.
GW2 isnt a PvP game. Its a game where people fak around ignoring allies, teamplay and positionning.
Crap healing (on other) return, low buff radius, no combat log and 1998 group interface (not to mention squad interface). CC are short, breakable by hundred of abilities and you can have 100% uptime on 5 players of CC immunity with just one guy.
Oh and when you’r dead you can shoot a critter and be alive again!
And if they remove downed state they can even delete all dungeons and fractals….dleting the Whole game could be faster at that point.
Mostly everything is doable without downed. What is not is badly designed.
When sucking at dodging an AoE isnt punished with wipe, what’s the point? Just having to spend MORE time on loads of hitpoints stuff?
At least remove rally! Its (mostly, ok Mesmer can start a fight downed) useless on solo and counterproductive everywhere else.
(edited by innocent ouarior.1954)
I’ll support this idea righ when they’ll make Rank abilities that I’m actually exited to have.
With buff and heals randomly applying to 5 people around (around like in “under your skirt”) Im not sure a UI would help anyways.
They would have to xp up to 80 and than realise that they have to reroll guardian and xp again to 80 before doing anything good.
D/D with Cond duration gear, quick glyph and Elemental Power in Air can provide a large amount of AoE Weakness but besides, yeah, most GvG I’v seen were running max 1 Elem for Static Field.
Right now what I’v seen on (RIP) T1 were blobs of guardian/necros with some warriors and a couple of Mesmers.
Elem is a “fine” 5th man in PvE if you already have guardian, mesmer and 2 warriors. Besides, PvE balance is completely screwedup, support is nearly non existant besides projectile cover and most bosses are generally just huge bags of hitpoints.
Fixes are easy :
- Make threat readable
- Give us damage/heal parsing tools (so people will know they suck)
- Remove downed state
None of this will happend of course.
I actually saw a difference with Magi VS Cleric. Somehow the higher you get the more you notice the effect. I mean not the 1000 is better than 1 but you feel the +500 more from 1500 to 2k than from 500 to 1000.
So yeah, anyway, its a gimmick, heal sucks in GW2, period.
Stacking +Heal if you are not going to take EA is like putting ketchup on your ice cream.
It does not make sense.
S/D full Magi with the 5% prec to heal and 25 stack of Sigil of Life you reach 2011 +heal. On a 0/10/0/30/30 build you can pull nearly 913 health per second on 5 person close to you cycling dagger #5, trident, healing ripple and water dodge. That and random buffs, and cleanses.
How good is that? Good question. The ridiculous range of heals and buff and the playing limit in GW2 makes many people go away from support role. However you may make the difference on a door fight supporting ram users.
In zerg fighting of course, just take your guardian or necro, follow the leader and lagfest.
Lack of tank/heal/dps is the reason I will leave GW2 sooner or later.
I was very exited at first but after a while you realise it doesnt fix the need for specific professions and it makes the whole PvE (and PvP in a lesser extend) feels like random chaos, hardly readable and lacking teamplay and support.
It was annoying in many games having to look for a tank or healer, having to look for a guardian or a mesmer is even worste.
PS: btw I’m completely out of topic
I sadly have to support the fear here. So far everything Anet did on Elem class went strickly against what they said, not even slightly away from the intent but purely AGAINST what they’v announced.
And yeah, Byron’s sig pretty much sums it even if there is much more to quote.
If its a whole trait revamp, spreading stun breaker out of crantrip, making water line less damage and more support, bringing a solution to intelligence supremacy, removing idiotic casting time on signets, making conjured weapons worth a crap… Sure.
If its just slight nerfs targeting the wrong builds like we had since release I dont think its worth the time.
Mesmer port into zerg: 5 glass canon elems throw Fiery Speed, RoF, Fire Grab, Arcane Wave and TP back to safety. At this very moment your team rush into them.
Averagely successful strategy a T1 euro guilde uses on a regular basis.
That or lift up cam distance because many players are actually tired to have 40% of the screen used by the butt of their toon.
Dayra must know what I am talking about, Vizunah’s Garrison yesterday was Z00MHACKFEST.
Or make it only visible for allies. There’s a lot of people, my self included, who just rush upleveled targets because they drop like flies. I think it’s not fair for a guy who wants to level his 60’, and is being rushed even in teamfights by 80’s in full exotics/superior runes.
More like an upleveled tag is a free badge tag in 90% of most situations.
If it was bad to bring underleveled toons to WvW Anet wouldnt have put the auto80 feat. I also think not knowing the guy you crushed was a lowby would be better.
What will Anet do?
Track and ban is an option but its very hard to detect and you will always have people using it.
Nerfing Arrow Carts to the bones could work but they just got improved to fight the “Zerg” effect.
Unlocking maximum cam distance for everyone, at least untill they come with a better idea seems to be the good way to go.
Its not exactly related to the 1st topic but it is interesting.
I’m a runner, and a good one, I can pretty much run though any dungeon, than go back rez people and carry them to the other end.
However there is an obvious problem with trash skipping (I leave alone boss exploiting since Anet seems to actually try to do something for it). Why would a game designer put trash mobs in a dungeon if you don’t have to fight them, you even dont have to avoid them, to stealth; or time patrols… you just run through stuff and than it resets.
It makes no sense, you could also remove them.
To go back to the topic. It is true that gw2lfg is now full of kitten CoF farmers, but I’m actually not talking about them. Farming hundred time the same thing is boring and stupid, there is not reason why farming people wouldn’t be boring and stupid too.
I started the topic because I realised the other day that I always used the website rather than my server /map channel because of the quality. Last week I noticed end up grouping more on my server now. For the same reason…
(edited by innocent ouarior.1954)
Is it me growing too old or are people on gw2lfg less polite, less skilled and more fake elitist everyday?
When do we get an ingame LFG tool? Oh, and a combat logs that actually shows combat logs.
Actually you don’t need pvt in fractals either. All the high level fractals want berserker’s so you actually do damage to the monsters.
Ditto, besides you dont really want Berzerker because its bad
Yes 2 traits for one ability seems weird, it bugged me too. But I found the others not worth it. Do you have a better suggestion for a AOE / Tank build?
Well for staters D/D AoE capacity overshines staff by a very wide margin.
Staff is slow, low damage and ground AoE are a waste when stuff runs around. If I had to build an AoE PvE Elem I’d use D/D, Glyph of Storms and Arcane Wave. Vigor alone is pretty much a no-death safety as long as you know the events.
Now some bosses are no-melee so you do at some point have to use a staff or a scepter but these are situations where you do not need tank stats at all.
Frostbow #4 is good, but the one minute cooldown is too expensive. Its amazing to pop up on large struture distroying events (typically Ascalon Burrows) but I wouldnt waste a whole utility skill for that. You could argue that Glyph of Storms is about the same but the blind every second in Earth is just to good.
CFG is also a good tool but seriously skill #5 isnt almost worth the charges. On the other hand targetless Fiery Rush is godly.
Long story short, D/D is more damage and its AoE will rarely get interupt. Staff is a support weapon and range makes that you dont need tanky stats or stability.
All in all Vigor and knowledge (thats a stat you can only have on the player) trivialise most PvE fights.
My bad I thought that taking Soothing Disruption AND Cantrip Mastery wouldnt mean wasting 2 traits for one ability. You build is a catastophy, sorry.
Generally speaking, if you want heavy AoE go D/D, it does more damage and wear averagely tanky gear (Knight does good). If you can bear it go for Lightning Hammer but its not for everyone.
If you want to play staff the range factor makes that you wear full offense gear (I’d say rampager for Chest/Staff/Legs/Helm and Zerk for the rest) noone needs stability or Soldier gear to channel a Meteor Shower in PvE.
Tanky gear on staff PvE is really a waste. With half a brain you can dodge everything.
1200 range + 4 cantrips + 0/0/10/30/30 AND Soldier gear… good god.
Arcane Shield, Signet of Air, Glyph of Elemental Powers (remove the stupid cast time already ffs) could be.
Cleansing Fire and Mist Form could not be as long as you can cast them while CCed like Auras or Attunement Swap.
In my efforts to make light armor look as awesome as medium, I ended up making a custom set that is strikingly Assassin’s Creed-esque.
My atempt to make it look Heavy’ish
You could actually think about a primary torch skills. No other profs have them but there are dual wielding torch NPC.
I very much doupt sPvP players talks about staff AoEs. Exept for eruption you can pretty much sit into them and shrug at damage.
Why not just form a group or make a group that doesn’t require Warriors? I don’t see why you feel the need (or indeed, at all desire) to be accepted by those sorts of people on the gw2lfg site.
I do, I don’t. I’v lately got a guy that left the group right after joining me arguing “I’v HAD to reroll a warriors because of P1 farming groups so now I only join warrior only groups”.
Remember community also make the game.
I actually feel pingeonhole into staff since Static Field is so strong against zergs. D/D is hardly viable for structure fights and Scepter seems to be mostly good for Dragon Tooth wall tricks. If you actually play for the win (and not randomly gank people for l33t vids) staff is the way to go.
what do you mean?
out of cof1 conjured weapons are uberbad.
Nope.
In CoF and CoE Conjured Weapon are uber.
Elems are arguably bad in high level fractals. But farming groups REQUIERING warriors are idiots.
(edited by innocent ouarior.1954)
Could you please flood warrior forums with Lightning Hammer Elems vids so eventually people on gw2lfg quit being idiots?
I’d rather have a sword to pair with dagger/focus.
This. So much this.
yes i cant wait to use bolt in air atunement! this greatsword looks abit OP to me, would be nice if the elite greatsword was different depending on atunement tho.
Nice idea, maybe it would become an Elite skill!
Greatsword if the most used weapon in the game. If we ever get something new I’ll be mace or bow.
Flamestrike is extremely bad. It makes Scepter’s DPS in fire terribly crappy.
I can’t say it is. I tested the damage in the mists with steady weapons and no stat boost (traits/jewels); Flamestrike is actually the heaviest hitting auto-attack of all scepter weapons because of burning.
…Until you start building Power and crit.
Until you start building anything actually. Perma Burn alone is amazing “naked” dps.
Even if you see it from a pure Condition point of vue Bleed scales so much better with, duration, haste, number of application. Worste of all, there are billions of burn sources in the game and it doesnt stack in intensity (Elem alone can perma burn using a Signet and Burning Precision and not having to swap to Fire Attunement)…
And yeah, whever you add crit and power in the mix Flamestrike goes deep down.
Disagree on both post.
The main problem with staff fire dps oriented build is that you waste a large portion of staff support potential by spending so much energy into buffing Fire Attunement while still doing a lot less damage than Scepter build.
About the details:
1- There is a logical failure into picking Elemental Attunement and 2 Fire only traits
2- Air attunement skills with staff do terrible dps and isnt worth spending a trait (even Zephyrs Boon for Blast in Ice Field is better)
3- Skipping Vital Strike in water is a major dps loss
4- Fire branche is one of the worste trait line to spend points in unless you rely heavily on Condition Duration
All in all, if you really want to single element dps I would build 30/30/0/10/0 but I seriously wouldnt play staff for this kind of build.
If you want a staff oriented dps build (not justanother bangwagon arcane/water cantrip crap) I would aim for a 10/25/0/15/20 that at least offers you more intelligence, blasting staff, vital strike, amd healing ripple.
As for utilities your choices are fine. Glyph of Storms in Earth is amazing, Signet of Fire passive is must-have for dps and Ether Renewal heals a lot and allows to skip condition cleanse water traits. I would however use Arcane Wave for another blast finisher as Heal or Might tool instead of Arcane Blast.
(edited by innocent ouarior.1954)
Fixing Focus would also be nice.
thats what you meant right? ;]
Not really, Focus is actually borderline overpowered.
Flamewall is ridiculous, if you traded damage for a bigger or longuer combo field it may make a sense. Fire Shield is… an Aura, but thats about it, 20s base recharge would fix it for utility.
Freezing Gust could have an AoE component.
The rest it is very strong. I can bear sucky fire if they dont nerf my Earth and Air.
——-
Scepter is something else. Dust Devil and Shatterstone are very bad.
Hurl should be something that I would fome some reason like to unleash, right now it is utterly useless.
Imo Dust Devil should be Wirl Finisher and Shatterstone should be blast, eventually adding an explode key (chain abilities).
Tooth and Pheonix are fine. Tooth is slow but recharges fast and hits like a truck. Pheonix has incredible utility, just the condi clean and vigor on 20s CD is amazing, damage and blast finisher on top of that is amazing.
Flamestrike is extremely bad. It makes Scepter’s DPS in fire terribly crappy.
[CoN] are funny.
Are you sure full Water Elem pop at inc is usefull btw? We* tend to rather use Tornado in Ether.

Hi.. I’m very new to GW2 and I usually go mage in whatever game I play, which is what elementalist seems to be.
MESMER!
Elementalist are a good profession but they are nowhere close to the Wizard-like ranged damage powerhouse you find in other games. Elems are more a support versatile hybrid doing average at everything. They are good for classic druids or shaman lovers.
Both were finisher (Blast and Whirl) on beta early builds. I guess thats why they are so grossly underpowered. The should imo go back to what they were.
Fixing Flamewall would also be nice.
Stuff
Too deep to unwrong, giving up.
1- Elementalist are not one of the -must have- PvE profession in the game atm.
However Thor and Condition builds does pull a kittenton of damage.
2- Not playing staff in a group (apart from obvious projectile reflection event) is doing it wrong. Fire field uptime is higher on staff, water fields are matchless support utilities.
The only reason to play D/D is if you already have a staff Elem in your group.
2- Dagger primary does NOT deal more damage than Scepter. And is melee and so hardly allows to stack damage only stats and utilities.
3- Using Cantrips means you dont use Signet of Fire, Arcane utilities or Glyphs (Sotrms!). Lowering both your DPS and group utility.
4- Intelligence is not needed for proper Elem gameplay. It drops (if 30 points spent in a 0 support and 0 dps trait line) your atonement swap from 15 to 10 seconds.
If you pay attention, all critical ability are either very less than 10 sec CD (generally #2) and pushes you to spend some time attuned to this element or much more than 15 (#3, 4, 5) meaning they arent really affected by intelligence at all.
There are 2 reason to invest into Arcane line for PvE : Blasting Staff and Elemental Attunement.
5- Evasive Arcane is a good trait. But it has 2 major flaw to be interesting in PvE:
a/ It requires 30 points invested into a bad trait line
b/ You don’t control it. If you dodge for the effect you may run out of end to avoid damage, if you dodge the damage you may waste internal cooldown (10s is actually important) or the end on a useless effect.
PS: One of the major reason of Elem’s PvE bad reputation is the flood of EA/Cantrip D/D Elem doing junk dps and dieing stupidly in melee.
Any server where one of Grenth, Narthex, or Balthazar (SoD) temple merchants are up?
I need to buy some soldier cloth items but its pretty much perma closed on my server, even lass chances with Southcove running.
No food it was sPvP, the guy was using nade, bombs, bar, crate.
dont be kitten and spam skills
Well I am pretty much ALWAYS under Confuse so your option is not to fight him, and not to dodge neither.
With Cond duration 5s every 12 or 15s is pretty much 80% uptime with ONE skill. So if I am, lets say a melee, my choices are die or run?
Cleansing my save me 10ish seconds but with the number of different conds an Engies apply its pretty much loto. Not to mention LoS’ing to buy time is quite hard since nades hit you almost anywhere.
I have a lot of cleanse but it never seem to be enough. Is there something I should watch and dodge more?
With high intelligence and BD Elemental Attunement becomes pretty awesome and overshines Renewing Stamina.
As for Elite pet, seriously that crap dies on every fight involving more than 10 people. Water Elem goes to melee, Air is the only decent one since he tends to stay at range and interupts a bit. Nothing beats Tornado in Ether fields to me.
