Is the game too short?

If you reached cap in a week, that’s hardly “taking your time”.

It’s really annoying how people constantly say this. It’s so unnecessarily accusatory; as if going through the same content at a faster speed means you’re skipping things or are rushing just to get to max.

I think it’s taken me about a month (ignoring all spans of time I didn’t play for) of casual playing to get to 80 – I can see how a person, clearing maps and doing storyline and crafting, could level in a week if they played 3+hrs a day on average. Some people like to play for longer periods than others, and frankly, I’m surprised when I hear people say that they have 60%+ map completion, and aren’t yet at lvl80.

GW1 was basically all “end-game”. The real game content began once you got to level 20, max level. Then the further you progresses, the more difficult the enemies got. So, for example, in “hard mode” you could be faced with a level 30 enemy. Leveling wasn’t the goal – finishing the content, capturing elite skills, and getting titles and elite armors was (purely talking about PvE).
Coming from this, I don’t mind the low level cap – in fact, I’d be happy even if they had carried over the lvl 20 cap. Reaching max level isn’t the end of the progress.

Any word on a Dungeon Group Finder system?

The GW2LFG site listed above is a handy tool, but we are working on something internally to improve and upgrade our group tool.

I’d just like to say that I am really happy to finally hear something about this – and even happier that it’s in the affirmative.

Yeah, but none of your HoM stuff from GW1 is actually in the HoM, so it won’t really show them anything. Or am I remembering what HoM looks like incorrectly? Haven’t been in there since week 1.

Suggestion to help deserted maps

I think it could be its own achievement, separate from Map Completion.

This is pretty vague, but I really liked what GW had going with Zaishen (mission/bounty/etc) quests. It really got people to revisit old areas; I know I did nearly every single one of them, and was really glad when one that I wanted to do, but had a hard time getting a group for, came up.
I don’t know how that could be implemented in GW2, really, beyond putting the dungeons on a daily rotation, with some worthwhile rewards for completing the dungeon on its “day”; it would work for world bosses too, I suppose – people would have to do event chains to get the bosses to spawn as well.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there are some people/bots who just log in to get a node when it respawns.

Hate to be a Debbie Downer, but really I just see that as “new content before improved content”.
I would much much much rather they said something, anything, about the few major issues as seen on the forums (for example, a party search that actually works), panic over the potential future of gear treadmills, t6 mat drops, and so on. New stuff is great, but it’s starting to feel like they’re ignoring the current playerbase, “w-what did you say? The concrete we poured for the foundation isn’t dry yet? But look at the beautiful backsplash we’re putting in your kitchen!”
Hopefully, new content doesn’t mean new bugs – this time around.

GW2 takes everything you love about GW1...

Egad! How could I have left out my number one favorite thing from GW1 that was not in GW2. Elite skills. In GW1, your elite skill was often the backbone of your build. In GW2, in class after class, I find that my elite is something I do not look forward to getting because my options will mostly include things that will make little difference, or that are downright terrible (human transform elites, I’m looking at you). I usually find myself wishing that I could use the number 10 slot for a regular skill rather than an elite. For instance, putting a stun break or condition removal in slot 10 might allow me to put another useful skill in slots 7-9. If I had to state my biggest disappointment with GW2, it would be the implementation of Elite Skills and forcing me to slot one.

This is very true. In GW, the elite skill was usually the best skill (and also the base skill that you created the build around); they were powerful, hence elite. Now, like you, I too keep thinking I would rather just have some other skill in there than the lackluster elites I have available. They’re not terrible, but I often feel that their usefulness is below that of the utilities. Honestly, sometimes I just forget to even use the elite because it makes so little difference.

Everything around Bria's Manor is bugged

Also had issues with this. The heart quest was working fine, but the manor questline was broken – Bria’s Shadowfiend was down to no HP, but its icon was still on the map, and Fear was still blocking up the door.
A number of escort quests were also at a standstill throughout the Iron Marches.

GW1 aspects that should be given to GW2

I quite like all of those ideas – #2 is basically already implemented now as much as it was in GW. I can’t remember what the 1-time chests in GW1 were (refresh my memory, if you could). I remember there were some random chests hidden around Elona, but those refreshed after X-amount of time, and you could open them again, so they were basically Splendid Chests.

I would really like to be able to cap boss skills. Right now, the level of customization on the 2nd half of the bar is really lacking, and this could make builds more interesting to work with. Plus it would give people all the more reasons to go after boss events, like you said; I was on one of the Norn maps yesterday, and the whole thing was covered with champions, with everyone running around them, which forced me to run around a lot of them too, since I can’t solo every single one.

Respawn rates

Another thing about respawn rates: me and like 10 others just finished a chain-event thingie in Harathi. We conquered all the centaur camps/villages… I haven’t even left the area, suddenly I’m getting attacked by centaur, that we just killed?
Even worse, 5 minutes later, the whole event chain starts again… Was it all for nothing? Did we really just kill 4 champions, for nothing? That was a waste of (about) an hour … Seems rather pointless to participate in these events now, except for the daily, maybe…

I know exactly the chain you’re talking about – I did it a few days back, and I also found it ridiculous. Even the little map status said “Ebon Vanguard controls all Harathi camps”, yet it was hardly 1min after we finished the event, and all the centaurs had respawned. It really confused me, because I’d just spent 40min doing this event, and it seemed completely pointless.

I guess it just really burns me to hear the arrogance of some players knowing that Anet houses some of the highest regarded pioneers of gaming and brightest/creative minds in the MMO space today. I sometimes feel like firing back with the same fervor and bad taste that is heaped on Anet by seemingly mediocre minds.

And it’s great that you’re such a fan of ANet devs, but does them being gods walking among us plebians make them immune from bungling things up?
I really don’t understand how wanting to have an obviously necessary thing, like a group finder, is arrogance on the part of the player, and why players (may also be read as “customers” or “clients”) making suggestions that they think would make the game better makes you upset.
ANet clearly wants feedback, otherwise these forums wouldn’t be here – so here they are getting some feedback. Should we not point things out when they’re broken or out of whack? Party search is such a basic thing, especially if ANet wants people to play in groups, that its lack might as well be a bug.

Why GW2 does NOT need a LFG system like WoW

The current system of finding groups is spamming map chat hoping for a group in the area of the game you are currently in. Which not only restricts where you can go what you can do while looking for a group but is also limited to the people who are in the same map as you.

A LFG feature would create more groups available and quicker formations of groups.

Yes there would be bad groups (they already exist) and good groups formed through the system. More groups overall means more bad and good groups.

I’m not sure if you have read the thread, since no one is saying that an LFG system isn’t needed – it’s specifically the WoW system that would not work.

Party search

interpol.2397

This is a fairly big problem that people are having – there’s a discussion about it in the Dungeons category (stickied, called No More LFG or something).
GW1 did have a party search function; it wasn’t implemented from the get-go, and before it was introduced, there was a lot of LFP/LFM spam, and it was on occasion difficult to get a nicely set up team started.
I know that GW2 IS NOTHING LIKE GW1 STOP TALKING ABOUT IT OMG, but it’s as if ANet completely forgot about any positive changes they made in the first game.

I don’t know if there will be a Party Search implemented ever (common sense would dictate that it will be – but common sense also dictates that such a thing would have been in the game from the start), since I’ve seen people saying, “yes, ANet is working on it,” and, “no, ANet doesn’t care,” so I’m really not sure.

I mean, they clearly see that these threads exist, since the one in Dungeons was stickied, and they clearly have the time to make it a sticky, but they don’t have the time to give us a yes or no answer? I don’t understand what there is to be undecided about on such a basic function.
