How do we report hackers (not bots)?

Sounds like [GANK] is an appropriate tag.

I’m pretty sure ANet is against ganking of any sort, though what I am not sure of is where they draw the line between ganking and competitive play. Because if you’re on a JP in WvW, you have to expect that players from opposing servers will attack you. Just because it’s frustrating to the “victim” doesn’t make it reportable. It’s kind of poor sportsmanship to get your jollies from yanking uninvolved players from walls, because you can clearly see they’re just there for the JP – but they’re in the JP in a PvP setting, so they should expect it.
You can try reporting it as ganking, if that’s even one of the offenses, but I’m of the opinion that what you’re describing is really not a reportable offense.

Is it something new? Because it’s not even a “dye pack”, it’s 1 unidentified red dye.
Anyway, in the BL store, it says that it contains one dye “from the red hue spectrum”. It doesn’t say that the dye is specifically a dye called RED.

Critical Damage - Stat Weight

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

interpol.2397

But the stats cover different aspects of your character abilities, so none of them are equal to the other. 14 Power isn’t equal to 14 Toughness any more than it’s equal to 2% Crit

If it helps, there’s a calculation for figuring out how much crit you get out of precision points
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Precision

Guess I’m also getting confused because the “+X% critical” gives you damage, but precision ups your Crit % chance, so I’m not quite sure what you’re looking to have it equated to.
+Power would add to the overall damage of your attacks, so I suppose in that way it also affects your crit damage, but only in a secondary manner.

is guilds wars 2 online?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

interpol.2397

Yes, it’s an online game with other players – it can be pretty empty depending on a number of factors.
- your server
- the area you’re in
- time of day

You might just be on a dead server; I’d be lying if I said that people haven’t been quitting the game, though the initial exodus seems to be over.

Crit damage % gets upped when you add to precision, but if you add directly to % crit, none of the other stats are affected.

New Race or New Class?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

interpol.2397

I would much rather see individual class armors, and expanded skills than either a new race or a new class.

But, I think that right now a new race would be more interesting than a class. I can see a number of options for the new race, but I really don’t know how much more different ANet could make the skillset and how effectively they could set up a “niche” to implement a unique class. I’ve always like the idea that was scrapped with GW1’s Utopia: the Chronomancer. I can see that as being a control-and-condition-centred profession.

So, my order of preference in this category is
1. Expand current classes
2. New race
3. New prof.

(of course, bug-fixes and implementation of key in-game apps are always way at the forefront of any of the above)

Why are Dungeons ok, but Raids not?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

interpol.2397

I think that with the way the skill system and individual prof balance is set up in GW2, 10+ raids would just be instanced zergs.
It would basically be double of everything in current dungeons, and since in this game we don’t really need to structure parties all that much, with 10+ people, there would be enough heals just getting spammed out as a consequence of combos, and no one would really have to be concerned with what they’re doing (just look at WvW zergs, or crowded events). In fact, I’m feeling like it would be even less organized than 5-people teams, because right now some people do have to be more support-based or tank-based, and with more players that would stop being much of an issue.

You shouldn’t be put into overflow if there are so few people in the regular LA. They could be mostly camping out around FotM portal. Could also simply be culling, which would cause you to see fewer people than there actually are (not tied to you guesting, just to how many people the server draws).

I see, It would be different if I saw like 10 people out questing when im playing, but I played for four hours today and only saw 1 guy, and he was in lions arch. Just odd I guess.

That is pretty bad. Do you play on people’s “off hours” (ie: most are asleep/at work)?
I usually end up in LA overflow when I go there, unless it’s during one of the dead times.

But, one other person is definitely lonely. Really, in this case, I would look into a transfer (if you play WvW and that’s just as dead), or I’d just guest all of my PvE. Try a few servers until you find a lively one.

It would be nice to know, yeah. Parties are currently capped at 5 people, so if you’re required to be in a standard party, 5 will be enough. But if there’s some other way of joining the event/raid, or a new party size… ideally, the content would be scaled to # of players in this case?
It’s too early for them to say now, I think. ANet only reveals details at the last minute, unfortunately :/

Not the first time I’ve seen something like this posted; probably not the last. I can see how a number of servers could be pretty dead at the moment – mine is relatively active (Sorrow’s Furnace), so I haven’t had this issue.

So, to answer your question, there are plenty of people playing, it just seems they’re not where you are.

Just go play a different game, and come back later if they add something else for you to do.

Best advice, really.

Personally, even when I feel I’ve done “everything”, if I enjoy the game I just keep playing. In GW1 I kept doing Zaishen quests long after I had my title maxed, just because I found the content fun, even on the nth run of Rand Stormweaver.

If you only enjoy running the content once, then wait for something new; ANet will add things, there will be holiday events – whatever. You’re not subscribed, so there’s nothing stopping you from quitting now and maybe playing some more later.

Many people leave their characters at certain nodes, and log in to gather when they reset. It’s not always botting, some people just camp nodes.

Botters are pretty obvious though. They glitch and look like they are in the node while gathering it. Most people will run a few steps away from the node if they are going to log alts to farm it. And rarely will you see an alt at a regular node.

Lol, I remeber a few months ago I would see 3 or 4 of them at the same node at the same time.

I realize this, but OP didn’t say anything about glitching. Just “people gather the node and disappear quickly,” from what I understood. That could easily be a bot or a camper. I’m just sayin that appear > gather >poof doesn’t always mean a bot.

I’m alright with it in PvE, though it is annoying when you’re just trying to run through an area and something hits you; it’s terrible in WvW when you’re trying to get out of the path of a zerg. One player hits you, and then 10+ others run you down because they’re not in aggro-mode, and you can’t do anything about it since and speed boost is now null.

I’m at half and half right now. I choose different genders because… I don’t know. I just enjoy making different-looking characters. If I have a human female engineer, I wouldn’t feel like making a human female ranger, since the armors will be the same (on the issue of in-game races, I think human armors are the best-thought through, so my current roster is 3/4 human).
So, it’s based on aesthetics and variety for me. I personally like how female charr look more than the male, and male sylvari to female, etc.

Edit: also, I’m a girl, teehee

I don’t think it’s that hard to accomplish overall, but I do not like the feels that it gives me. Now, during events where NPCs die, I think “I hope no one comes here and resurrects them before I can get to it,” and when someone does come it just goes to, “no, go away, these corpses are mine”.
To add, once I get my fill of rezzing I also avoid reviving downed NPCs, because other people need them; I think this is counterproductive as well, since it could delay event progressions.

Thanks for the feedback on the Living Story portion of Flame and Frost: Prelude. Here’s some context on how it works:

The Flame and Frost story content progresses over time. You will not see everything today, tomorrow, or even the next day.
Expect subtle changes at first. Maybe you’ll encounter some familiar characters. Perhaps you’ll be introduced to some new ones. You might see a new structure where there wasn’t one before.
The Living Story content is initially about the thrill of discovery. We’ll put some markers on your map, maybe send you a letter, or parcel out details through certain characters, but the rest is up to you.
As the weeks progress, you’ll notice bigger changes in the world. New events may appear. Plots will advance and characters will develop.

As always, we welcome your opinions. This is a new thing we’re trying so we appreciate your patience and input._

Haven’t seen any other event types yet, though.

Sorry but DODGE is a core mechanism of the game. If your computer can’t handle that, you have worse issues than completing the daily achiev.

About the optional daily… they didn’t promise this in this patch. “Soon”

You’re being a bit aggressive, but alright, I’ll bite.
Most of the PvE content can easily be played without having to dodge. I personally use it often, because it’s easy for me and I find it fun, but you can play without it if your specs necessitate it.
It’s easy enough to 1. stack heals and buffs on yourself to not need dodge and 2. to kite the majority of attacks that are coming your way, especially from melee enemies. To add, though, the person I know who is in this situation couldn’t care less about dailies, he just plays the game to play the game, I’m just giving examples of how that daily could be problematic. Personally, my solution would be to skip doing dailies that day if you just can’t do ‘em until the 4/5 feature is implemented – it won’t kill you.

I don’t understand the point of rolling out the “new and improved” daily system without all of the features, but I guess by now such an attitude should be expected from ANet.

Lack of new combat armor skins

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

interpol.2397

I’m always confused by these kinds of complaints. I mean, for one, the game has hardly been out for half a year. They’re not going to pump out new armors so quickly. I don’t really know what to tell you if you’re already sick of GW2 because of the lack of cosmetics.
I understand that they’re part of the goal of the game (that’s why I liked GW so much), but they’re not the everything either.
Your post seems to imply that they’re not making new armors, and they’ll never make new armors ever. But it’s already been clearly stated that Ascended gear is on its way soon – it’s being introduced in stages.

New, expanded armor art nearly always came with new expansions in GW, so I guess that’s what tempers my expectations of how often new armors will be released, and the manner which they will be released in.

My personal gripe with the armor art? A lot of it is very similar to one another, and each class does not have its own, unique art. That’s really what my main issue is. I don’t want my guardian to look like a warrior, or my elementalist to look like a mesmer. That’s both boring, and tactically problematic – in WvW I want to stand next to the player that’s most likely to heal or buff me, and with armors spanning multiple profs, sometimes it’s difficult to tell.

Daily requeriments rotates … They removed the combo field kills but they DIDN’T remove Dodge. Just din’t take part of today.. maybe tomorrow.

Dodge is one of the easiest achievement.. why you complain?

Although I haven’t had an issue with it, I can see how people would have issues with the dodge achievement – running on an older computer or a slower connection delays/lags people out, so timing your roll can be nearly impossible sometimes, even with some of the really long enemy animations.
This makes me wonder to what happened to “you don’t have to do every single daily to get a reward; you will have a choice.” Did ANet “forget” about saying this, or is it coming later?

Put regular utility skills into Elite Slots?

in Suggestions

Posted by: interpol.2397

interpol.2397

The point of an elite skill is supposed to be that it’s so good that it’s the one you want to have in the slot, even if you have the option not to. Clearly, if the elites are so useless that people would rather have a utility, something is wrong. Utility skills should not make you build stronger than having an elite.
We’re being forced, at this time, to slot in a skill that we don’t want to – a skill that provides us with very little use (comparatively to utilities/heals).

I know it’s a different game, but I like to look back to GW, because the two games are not entirely disconnected; many of the people in GW2 worked on GW, and could have taken a lot from that game. Elites being one.
Builds were based around elites. They were often the best skill you had, and all the others synced with it to produce something useful. They weren’t something you were begrudgingly forced to put into the build (which elites parties forced you into using due to metagame is a different story).
So, if there’s more of a payoff in using utilities, we should be able to use utilities. Clearly the elites have to be reworked, and the uts that would “overpower” a build should be nerfd.

As others have stated, I see this as a “let’s get mounts guys” thread in disguise – I say this because I’ve seen OP plugging mounts quite strongly before.
I’m personally iffy on the subject, and my standard for what would be alright in a mount in GW2 comes with a lot of restrictions.

But this is a WP thread.
I’m fine with them. I think the pricing could use some tweaks. I can understand the need for many money-sinks, with how quickly people like do grind up for dat gold, but sometimes it just make no sense to me. At level 80, even if you’re standing right on the waypoint, you still have to pay 1s+ to warp to it. I really don’t see that as truly distance-based. It would make sense for any travel within a zone to be LESS than 1s, and 1s+ for inter-zone trips. It would also make more sense for rez to be free to the closest WP.

I have often read this suggestion on the forums, and it’s one that I really like:
if you have 100%’d a zone, WP travel within it should be free

Any of the above could potentially encourage people to map around to events/to help others when they otherwise wouldn’t bother due to costs.

Overall, WPs don’t break immersion for me (there’s always a meta understanding that I’m in a game which has to provide certain conveniences for players), and I like ‘em, but I don’t agree with their pricing.

Housing.. What's your opinion?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: interpol.2397

interpol.2397

I have a feeling that housing in GW2 will be, to some extent, similar to the HoM in GW but with more customization. A place to display achievements and rare weapons/armors, minis, pets, etc.
Honestly, my initial reaction to people calling for personal housing was “NOPE!”, but then I thought about it, and I really had little logical justification for it; it was just a gut instinct likely coming from there never being player homes in GW.

If ANet can deliver on attractive, unbuggy housing without having to compromise on working on other, more urgent, game issues, I don’t see how it would hurt the game any (provided there are no buffs associated with owning/filling up a home).

Do you still bother with daily achievement?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: interpol.2397

interpol.2397

I’ve been trying to remember to do them. I found it actually goes by faster in WvW than PvE for me. Events get done in a snap, and I gather along the way when the pressure’s off. I don’t know how I manage the kill variety, but I guess parties sometimes run through environment aggro, so that takes care of that.
I never thought of saving up jugs until I can use them under a buff. I think I’ll do that from now on. Thanks, thread.

“Looks pretty,” she mumbles, “maybe I’ll use it on my desktop.”
As her finger presses down on the mouse, pointer hovering over the update button, she hears a drawn out scream behind her
“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooo”
She swivels around in her chair, but it is too late; the deed has been done.

The fateful words hover on the screen for a few moments before the webpage automatically updates.

Wrong, the sever status changes daily to hourly…it is based on the people logged in NOT the total number of toons on that server

No, it’s actually not wrong. It’s already been stated by ANet that the server population reflects how many accounts have been made in/are housed in that server. Not how many players are online on that server. Only reason for the changes you’re seeing are server transfers.

I’m convinced that the number of effects one must remember and try to combine is a source of the difficulty in playing an Engineer (next to the nerfs). In an ordinary game of skill like chess, there is symmetry between players in the moves they have to remember. There isn’t the case in chess where one player has more different kinds of pieces than the other player. In GW2, it seems that the Engineer has many more kinds of pieces than other players so it takes more mental skill to calculate the possibilities. Maybe this is what is meant as “versatile”.

I understand your analogy and where you’re going with it, but to me it seems more like Engs can’t even be sure of what pieces they do have. On one turn it’s a rook, and then next turn it shifts into a pawn, making in-depth play/strategy implausible on their part.
