Vanthian – I am sensing a bit of a guilty conscience here. She never specified what the messages were about. My assumption was that it was likely going to be primarily used on people caught using macros, POV alterations, etc, or who are being verbally abusive to others. (edit: her last comment wasn’t posted when I wrote this).

I’m not going to dignify your straw man arguments with a proper response, because you know you’re twisting things to fit your side, but I think your accusations are at best overstated, and at worse, completely baseless.

Thanks for the changes, Gaile!

I can see that it wouldn’t be immediately possible to prove ownership of the facebook account, but if you went through support and showed that it was your own fb you linked to, and that you did so willingly and with full knowledge of the ramifications, would a reinstate be possible?

There’s no such thing as a “Black Lion Vendor” according to the wiki. The Black Lion Armor Trader only converts your town clothes, and the Black Lion Weapons Merchant only sells weapon skins for Black Lion Claim Tickets.

I would also really like a vendor who accepts these currencies.

"Soulbound on Acquire" - still necessary?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

When saying this, I’m thinking specifically of runes/sigils, that drop from dungeon chests or the Mystic Forge. I think that if you do not control which character acquires the item (karma items, for example, you buy on a specific character, therefore you have control), then the item should be account bound. There have been plenty of times that I’ve gotten runes that I would have loved to use on my Engineer – except that my warrior got them while forging.

I feel like there are very few instances in which soulbound on acquire makes sense, at this stage in the game. The primary exception is karma-bought gear, or perhaps the Order armours.

I don’t think that the change to Shadow Behemoth’s portals was the right choice for making the fight more difficult. It hasn’t made the fight more challenging, just more tedious.

It’s incredibly frustrating to run around the boss desperately killing portals (and portals which, might I add, are identical to the ones strewn around by the local heart quest), only to finally get back to his head, hit him twice, and have him resummon the portals.

It feels like trying to shave but having the hair grow back right where your razor just left. It’s not fun. It’s also quite difficult in small groups due to the amount of space the portals cover. Not every class is very mobile (cough mesmers cough), and sometimes if you’re not fast enough, you can’t get even back to his front in time to hit him before the portals respawn.

I have no issue with him being more difficult, but I’d like it if the team could find a better way to make it harder, that was challenging and fun. I don’t have any suggestions for you, but I have faith that you guys can come up with something.

Or, at least, if you could make it so that he summoned portals/went invulnerable less often, that’d be nice? Maybe if you killed all the portals during one phase quickly enough, you could keep hitting him for a bit longer?

I agree that the decreased number of dailies is really disappointing. I have no issue with pve/pvp dailies being merged, but the setup as it is now is less than friendly to people with limited time availability.

I consider “my dailies” the bare minimum of what I’ve logged on to do. So, on a day where I’ve got a LOT of stuff going on irl, I know I can at least get my laurels and karma for the day if I focus. With this system, it’s much MUCH harder to do that. I normally only play PvE, and I really liked having the option of 8-10 dailies I could do in my preferred game mode. And then, if I felt like branching out (as I sometimes do), I had that option.

I really don’t think there was anything wrong with the dailies system as it stood before. I’d really like to go back to that amount of choice. I like having them combined and all, but I just want there to be more options within each category. I know you want to encourage people to try all portions of the game, but I don’t think you should punish them for wanting to play what they know they enjoy. Especially for something that happens daily. Wouldn’t you get demoralized if you hated PvE but you absolutely HAD to do it in order to get laurels? Every. single. day? It just seems unfair.

I cannot find my “Celebration Hat” (baseball cap for launch) even after logging into every one of my toons, checking their backpacks for tonics, checking the wardrobe for unlocks, and after visiting the Black Lion Armor merchant to trigger conversions. The wiki says it is a consumable but isn’t specific. I’ve looked through my bank and bags and cannot find it.

1. Where should it be located? (Wardrobe vault, bags, bank, etc.?)
2. What form does it take now? (tonic, headgear, etc.?)
3. Does it still have the name “Celebration Hat?”

Good point! I’m also missing some gem store glasses that I bought. I put in a support ticket for that one, though.

I’m not sure if it’s been mentioned, but it really bums me out that the item skins we have can’t be added to the vault without destroying, in essence, the free transmutation charge that it comes with.

Is there any chance we could maybe get a single transmutation charge when we add a skin to the vault? It would feel less wasteful, to me. And I could finally ACTUALLY clear out my bank…

Certain gold-bought armour not salvaging?

katubug.6378

I bought all the Vigil armour on my ranger to unlock the skins, which worked just fine. However, they’re now all soulbound to her, and I do not need rares in any case as all my characters are in exotics.

So, I went to salvage them…but I can’t. I know that skins purchased can’t be salvaged (like bought with badges in WvW), and I know that karma gear cannot be salvaged. However, these are just rares, bought with a gold (over 1g per piece, I’d like to add), and it doesn’t make sense for them to be unsalvagable.

So, I assumed this must be a bug introduced by the feature patch. Is anyone else having this issue?

So, with the release of the Wardrobe, all PvP and PvE skins are going to be merged. This is awesome, considering that there are skins exclusive to both game modes…but I want to know if the PvP skins will still be unlockable. Specifically, the PvP-specific Masquerade set. I’ve wanted it in PvE since launch, but I’m not a dedicated PvP player, so I don’t have those skins in my PvP locker.

Will we have some way of unlocking that skin, or the other PvP exclusives (like the Stalwart and Commando sets), in PvE after the patch?

Is there a chance you guys would ever consider adding an alternate voice option for player characters? I find it jarring that my characters of the same race and gender sound identical. I also find it incredibly immersion breaking every time my norn female says anything, because I don’t picture her sounding anything like the female norn voice.

Second question: Where do you look to hire voice actors? Would you ever consider an open casting call? I do a pretty mean Asura voice…;)

Trahearne sighed, placed a mark between the pages of his book, and pushed his seat away from the desk. “Very well,” he answered, knowing that it was no use arguing with Caithe. Of all the Firstborn, she was the most stubborn by far. Additionally, she was one of the most skilled warriors, he didn’t fancy testing her bluff. He stood and followed her along the narrow pathway out of his bower, looking down through the vine mesh at the sylvari below, chatting and crafting and swimming and going about their businesses. Many of them were born without a Hunt, and so were free to frolic among the leaves and sun themselves and take lovers and be naïve and curious all their lives. Trahearne envied them, and pitied them.

As they approached the next level of the Grove, Trahearne heard the cries of the Mist Warriors recruiting. He knew, and cared, little about what went on in the Mists. He respected those who did, of course, but it had little to do with him, as their Hunts had little to do with Orr. These thoughts were interrupted by the arrival at their destination.

The leafy membrane that separated indoor from outdoor opened accommodatingly as they approached, and Trahearne found himself inside the small abode of some of the saplings of Dusk. He knew it well – he had helped to grow it, when he was newly born and still lived within the Grove. He felt pleasantly nostalgic to be standing within its walls once again, though the trinkets on the shelves differed, now, and there was a rack of weapons leaned up against the wall, rather than a study desk.

Clearly I was setting him up for meeting a sylvari player character, but I never got further than that. I hope you guys enjoyed, and I’ll be happy to discuss any lore that contradicts what I wrote.

His research on the subject petered out after a few leads, however. It seemed that Oola was happy to bring her secrets with her to the grave (and beyond, apparently). This was deeply frustrating to Trahearne, who wondered if, with similar studies, he could eventually be the only sylvari ghost. He smirked wryly to himself as the thought crossed his mind that cleansing Orr certainly could take more than a lifetime.

Trahearne was the first of the Firstborn, perhaps he could be the first sylvari spirit to linger on past death. Or, he mused unhappily, the first sylvari to ever fail their Wyld Hunt. Still, surely the Pale Tree would not have given him this task it if were impossible…he hoped. The Tree was infuriatingly silent on the subject, though she gave all appearances of being supportive and comforting when he returned, impotent and drained of energy, to her chamber.

Back at the Grove between travels, Trahearne kept to his quarters. He was flipping over his notes and his books, hoping for a lead or a sub-lead or a sub-sub-lead…any branch of this discovery that he could possibly have overlooked, when Caithe opened the door to his study.

“I am reading,” he stated simply, dry as a leaf in the fall.

“You always are. I want you to meet someone,” Caithe responded, unfazed by his cool welcome.

“What?” he asked, actually turning his head to look at her. “What ever for?”

“By the Tree, you’re in one of your moods again, aren’t you? Well, you’d better perk up. You’re coming along, whether you like it or not,” she stated, folding her arms across her chest and looking directly at him, unsympathetically. “I’d prefer it if you didn’t waste any time, or make a bad impression.”

I know he’s not the most popular character, but I’ve always liked Trahearne (mind you, my main is a sylvari, so me and him go WAY back). Beyond that, I find him a really fascinating character in his melancholy, and after completing some personal story, I was compelled to write a bit, from his point of view.

I actually wrote this quite some time ago, and it’s just been sitting on my hard drive. I thought it would be a shame if no one ever saw it, so I’m posting it here. I hope it gets some appreciation.

Trahearne was old, so old. Perhaps not by the standards of most of the races of Tyria, but he was the oldest of any sylvari, and he had learned wisdom beyond his years. The Firstborn of the Sylvari all handled their burdens differently. Caithe had become secluded and withdrawn, shielding herself even in the Dream. Kahedins drowned his problems by helping others, especially the newest and most naïve saplings. And Riannoc, poor Riannoc, was the first sylvari to taste death, and it shook them all to their core. As for Trahearne, it all made him very tired.

He told himself that his research on Orr was helping him with his Wyld Hunt, but in truth he felt utterly useless, powerless to return the land to its former glory. News of Riannoc’s death, however, had lit a fire within him. Though he never supposed himself or his race to be immortal, he nevertheless had never given death much though. After Riannoc’s disappearance, he thought of little else. He began to learn the arts of necromancy, perhaps out of a desire to reach out to his lost brother, or perhaps out of his intense desire to have control in a situation that was ultimately never going to be his decision. Trahearne feared death, but greater than his fear was his fascination. Before sylvari were born, they existed in the dream, but not so after death. The humans and the norn and the charr and asura all had differing opinions on whether a person was greater than their body, and what might happen beyond the grave. Certainly humans and norn had spectral forms, but there was no record of any other Tyrian race continuing existence as a ghost. Except one. Oola, an asuran necromancer, left behind not only holographic recordings of herself, but had been recorded as being an actual ectoplasmic presence, which was intensely intriguing to Trahearne.

Why Don't Dailies Count Toward Meta?

in WvW

Posted by: katubug.6378

katubug.6378

I respect that dedicated WvWers don’t like the idea of others getting rewarded when we put in less effort than they do. However, a living story is a living story. A WvW-centric person can put in a small amount of effort into PvE to access the living story there, get the meta achievement and all associated rewards that come with it. No one complains about that.

People play WvW because they like it, same for the people who play PvP or PvE. Everyone likes getting rewarded, and it’s much better incentive to get people to try new playstyles and new things if you can feel rewarded for doing so.

I’m currently at 8/16 achievements for this season, and have nothing to show for it besides some extra achievement points. I have put a LOT more of my time and effort into playing WvW lately, but I feel stymied that I’ve only just gotten halfway there with ~4 days to finish (and of the 8 I have, 6 of them are the “easy” ones!).

I’m not interested in attacking anyone via this thread, nor shaming them for whatever playstyle they adopt, however dedicated or casual. My goal is simply to make a suggestion that I, at least, thought would help both sides of the playstyle coin.

Why Don't Dailies Count Toward Meta?

in WvW

Posted by: katubug.6378

katubug.6378

Almost every other temporary content gives us dailies to complete to help us complete the meta achievement. Why not WvW Seasons? To get the reward chest key requires more than double the amount of time and effort than the normal LS categories, although of course that likely varies depending on server (SoR here…we’ve had a rough season, to say the least), but I feel confident in saying that the numbers are MUCH larger and the objectives significantly harder to obtain than in PvE meta achievements.

I don’t have much time to play the game anymore, and I like to split my time between WvW and PvE, which is an option I now don’t feel like I can do and still be rewarded for. If the daily WvW achievements counted for the meta, I think it would help a lot of people play the way they want to, without feeling like they weren’t getting the reward from it.

Additionally, I think it would help to alleviate all the fussing there was about PvE players flooding into WvW for the achievement and “ruining” everything.

Starbuck Guild's Sun Festival!

The Sun Festival

The annual Hylek Sun Festival is coming up! Everyone is invited to take part in honouring the sun alongside friends and guildies. There will be food, prizes, and activities! The festival will begin on Sunday (naturally!), September 22nd, at 5pm server time, and will last for roughly 2-3 hours. Please keep in mind that all times listed are PST.

Please PM Lyra Silvertongue, Cobalt Iridium, or Torren Dragonwind for an invite to our guild for the duration of the festivities! You are welcome to join us simply for the event, and leave the guild afterwards. However, pleased be advised that gem store prizes are reserved for pre-existing guildies only.

Prove the Sun shines through you: face me as another form!

To kick off the festival, at 5pm server time, a costume brawl tournament will take place in the Lion’s Arch arena outside of Fort Marriner. Outside the arena, guildies will be encouraged to trade wins to help everyone get their Costume Brawl achievements.
Inside the arena, however, the competition will be a fierce 1-on-1 tiered battle that will culminate in a free-for-all battle! The last creature standing will win five gold, and the Sun God’s Gift.

The eye of the sun sees all!

After honouring the sun by trying on new bodies in battle, the next battle will be one of wits. The festival will move to the Zintl Holy Grounds in Sparkfly Fen (escorts will be provided for those who have never been) at 6pm server time. Belcher’s Bluff, a game coined by Poyaqui of the Ni’tlacua tribe. Try to outdrink your opponents without passing out! All races should be available to help everyone get well on their way to their Omnomnivore title!

All participants may claim a care package of Hylek foods to help keep their stomachs settled.

“The blue ones and the green ones are nice…but I wish there was a purple one, that sang, and danced, and gave out candy!”

Beginning at roughly 6:30pm server time, the third part of the festival to honour the sun is a team game involving colours. Players will be assigned a “tribe” and must obtain the Hylek Hue Potion of that tribe (Green, Blue, Yellow, Red, and Orange) to be easily identifiable. Alternately, armour colours may be dyed to the appropriate colour.

Each team will be given a “flag” to deliver to a certain point elsewhere in the zone. The flagbearer must remove all weapons and armor (and disable pets, if necessary) and rely only on their tribemates for healing, swiftness, and protection. The flagbearer will also be transformed into a mummy (tonics will be provided), and will suffer from a permanent limp. Members of each team may also choose to transform in order to attack another team’s flagbearer (who may not fight back). This will be a definite exercise in teamwork!

Each member of the first team to escort their flagbearer to the goal will win a beaded weapon of their choice (and some candy!).

There’s something in the water…

To wrap up the festival of the Sun, what could be more fitting than to take down the Sunless? All participants will gather together to face down the new, deadlier Tequatl the Sunless. Many will not survive, and success is not guaranteed. However, with strength and tenacity, we may yet tell stories to our spawn who will be born here…in a new home, for all Hylek!

Naturally, we do not have the option of deciding when Tequatl will show up to the festival. It it possible that another event will be interrupted by him, and in that case, we will simply have to schedule around his appearance. We, the Sunbringers, will honour Zintl by defeating this new, frightening foe!

As the sun sets…

Even after the festival ends, we will continue to honour the sun in the forums.

All guildies will be encouraged to post screenshots from their time during the festival in a special thread for that particular purpose. Every unique screenshot posted will enter you for a chance to win a Sun Kite from the Black Lion Trading Post. The drawing for the kite will take place on Saturday the 28th, so everyone should have plenty of time to post and enter.

Obtainable Azurite Orbs, a la Quartz

in Suggestions

Posted by: katubug.6378

katubug.6378

I’m not sure if you’ve seen the trading post lately, but Azurite orbs are selling for higher than some lodestones. This, of course, makes sense, because they’re no longer available. Unlike the candy corn, which was widely available during the event, they were only available once per day, in a fairly challenging dungeon. Even then, there was a chance you’d only get an Azurite crystal. And those crystals are the only ones that could not be upgraded the same way most of the other gems were.

So azurite crystals are worth dirt, and the orbs are worth their weight in baby quaggans. This, I can only imagine, was not the intended turnout for the material.

Because the Molten Alliance have made a return as Scarlet’s minions, perhaps it’s not beyond imagination that we could earn a home-instance node via a future living story, the way we did for the Quartz crystals? We could harvest the crystals, with a chance of getting an orb…of course, this would necessitate the ability to upgrade the crystals in some way. Whether it would be fusing 5-10 of them at a Place of Power like the Quartz, or whether it would involve transmutation with dusts the way the rest of the gems are upgraded, it would be very helpful to balancing out the incredibly disparate prices of the materials as they are now.

PS, feel free to hire me. :P

Chat Suppression and Commanders

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: katubug.6378

katubug.6378

This may just be my experience, but I have noticed a distinct likelihood of becoming suppressed while I have my commander tag active, that I do not notice otherwise. If I do not have my tag on, I can generally ping waypoints, chat in /map and /say, and be as communicative as I like without much issue.

However, when I have my tag on, I get suppressed constantly. It happens at least one per Invasion, and also happens during Teq and my Guild’s Missions.

I suspect that this is due to the fact that much of my commanding involves short or one-word orders (“stack here,” “go north,” etc), and pinging waypoints to help control zerg flow. It is beyond frustrating to not be able to communicate with people who are impatiently waiting on you to tell them what to do or where to go next. Here are my main issues, and my suggestions:

1. Suppression in /map also suppresses /say, and vice versa. Short of whispering someone to convey my message while suppressed, I am left with no option to communicate with the people surrounding me. Perhaps at least give me the chance to speak in /say after suppressing in /map, and vice versa.

2. There is no warning when you are approaching being suppressed. There’s no explanation as to which actions with what frequency contribute to suppression (for example, people seem to be able to spam /laugh and other emotes with alarming frequency with no ill effects, which frankly annoys the kitten out of me), so it’s difficult to avoid. A list of guidelines, or a warning in the chat box when you’re nearing suppression, would be immensely helpful. Also, if emotes could suffer the same penalty as regular chat, that would be a great QoL improvement.

3. There’s no way of knowing when you’re not suppressed anymore. Additionally, there seems to be a double standard of suppression regarding chat vs pinging waypoints. Anecdotally, I’ve noticed that I can say “wp please” much earlier than I can ping a waypoint, and I suspect that pinging the waypoint actually increases the amount of time I spend suppressed. If there was a timer on suppression, and if there was a transparent explanation of how that timer works, then it would make my life much easier.

I understand the reasoning behind suppression, and I respect it. But it (along with the somewhat ridiculous 2-mail limit) is aggravating, and affects me far more often than I feel it is appropriate to “just deal with.”

I’d really like to see some response to this issue.

tl;dr: suppression sucks when you’re a bossy person

Chat code crashes server.

I can confirm that there is indeed a bugged chat code. I just tried it myself (whispered a guildie who agreed to test it with me), I d/c’d and was rolled back about 30s to when I logged in. Guildie did not seem to be affected.

I am obviously NOT going to share the code publically, but I do have it for the devs if they need it.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Save_the_merchants_from_the_Bloody_Buccaneer_kidnappers

This event has, as far as I can tell, been bugged since the launch of the game. I have never once been able to complete it. The final merchant is nowhere to be found, and all the Bloody Buccaneers are invulnerable (but still attack you!). This makes this portion of Bloodtide obnoxious to transverse or do anything in.

Is Arenanet aware of this bug? If it’s not something that can be fixed easily, could the event be perhaps disabled? I do not exaggerate when I say thakitten#8217;s been bugged possibly constantly for the entire year that GW2 has been out.

Edit: The wiki entry even contains the addendum “this event frequently gets stuck.”

I have not yet tried it. However, I’m in one of the largest guilds on my server, and I’ve yet to hear anyone say they felt it was challenging in a positive way. A good few of my guildies who tried it ragequit in zone 1. One group did manage to beat world two, but it took them literally 10 hours nonstop to do so.

So yes, I think it could stand to see some rebalancing, going off of what I know.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not EXPECTING anything. I feel like I am a valuable customer to Arenanet, it’s true. I’ve spent a lot of money on the game, have bought copies for friends and talked other friends into buying their own, etc etc. I did those things because I wanted to, though. Because I thought the game was worth sharing, because I wanted to play with my friends, and so on. I don’t expect Arenanet to bow to my every whim because of how much money I’ve given them.

But my overwhelming impression of Arenanet is that they try to, anyway. That if their existing, loyal playerbase wants something, that they do their darndest to deliver. It’s something that I’ve always appreciated about them, and it’s part of the reason I have no qualms with giving them my money.

So I am registering my respectful request: I would like to have those items. I don’t mind having to pay gems for them, but I don’t need the full Digital Deluxe upgrade – most of those items come with my Collector’s Edition, and I don’t want to pay $20 for items that wouldn’t cost that much otherwise. So if they released an optional upgrade, I’d buy it. I’d still prefer to receive it with the Collector’s Edition, though…I don’t see why not offer them to the existing playerbase, though.

My cable company frequently offers discounts to draw new customers. If I call them and ask for a price match because I’ve been with them for x years, they’re always willing to offer me at least some kind of discount. It’s understandable to want to draw new customers, but you don’t want to leave your existing ones feeling gypped.

Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver, and the other gold.

I pre-purchased the fancy-dancy Collector’s Edition with the IRL bonus items etc. Paid a pretty penny for it. I’ve been playing since early release and I’ve spent 1900 hours and at least $100 on the game, blah blah normal entitlement stuff.

So cue my jealousy upon seeing that the Heroic edition comes with an 18 slot bag, free gem store armour, and a bunch of boosters! I want those things!

Are we going to be getting them? Because I will honestly feel a bit underappreciated if we don’t. And I know I’m not the only one who reeeeaaally wants them.

It’s a bug. They recognize you in the story instance but the conversation logic in the arena versions isn’t triggering correctly. The lines were written but they’re not displaying on interact.

From this and another thread on the subject, it seems like this isn’t something you’re going to fix. You guys are busy, especially with the Liadri bugs and stuff, no biggie. Any chance someone could at least post the dialogue transcript to the forums or wiki or something? I like dialogue.

Although I guess if it’s not released, my norn can imagine all the sweet nothings the recently-spurned Braham could whisper to her…

Dye-Based Achievement System

in Suggestions

As an avid dye collector, I’d love to be rewarded for the time and effort I’ve put into collecting tons of different dyes.

There could be multiple tiers of just account-based dye collections (Discovered X unique dyes!), but then also per-character records (Unlocked X Dyes on a single character). You could even split that by Race. The achievement would span the entirety of the ingame dye gradient, except for F&F dyes, which are largely not available to the average player. It would also be neat if there was an ongoing achievement like Agent of Entropy, which would count every dye unlocked on every character. I realise it’s not technically infinite, but I think it is potentially so if new colours are released, and it’s also stil pretty close, especially if you have 9 or more characters!

There could be a bonus achievement for unlocking a rare/event specific dye, such as the Flame and Frost dyes (this would of course only be fair if more event dyes are planned in the future). I also would suggest to make this a one-tier, one-dye achievement, to make it accessible to more players.

Just my two cents!

Ah, thank you for the information. I guess I wasn’t wasn’t watching closely enough, haha.

I also hadn’t heard any official word on whether or not anyone from the team had acknowledged the issue, so thank you for that.
