Charr stereotype

in Charr

Posted by: kazi.6438

kazi.6438

The entire NSP server literally has 2 Charr mesmers in WvW. I’m one of them.

I think the main deterrent to playing a light armor Charr is the lack of good armor choices. There are only two or three armor sets that look decent (T1, Sorrow’s Furnace, Vigil). This prevents most people from making light armor Charr in a game where the entire PvE endgame revolves around collecting cosmetic armor sets.

If you have the trait Illusionary Personality it is a FANTASTIC stomp move.

Enemy downed —> (1/3-1/2 way through stomp) F3 --> (once daze is about to wear off) F4

It’s like the stealth stomp, but for mesmers.

Also the F3 self-shatter is fantastic at breaking up a warrior/thief bursting you in melee (in case F4 is on cooldown). You can also disrupt stomps on allies.

in WvW

Although trebuchets are a very useful piece of siege, they are the most mind-numbingly boring piece of siege to operate (only exception is when counter-trebbing). Holding down the 2 button for hours on end to take down a T3 wall and then receiving no reward whatsoever when your teammates run in and cap the tower makes the experience even more… “enjoyable.”

I would kill for an ability in the trebuchet mastery line that allows you to set the treb to autofire (perhaps for like 10 minutes?). This change would also have the side effect of dramatically increasing the number of flaming projectiles in the air at any given moment (which would be AWESOME).

GS Auto- seems to hit for about 0.5-2.5k per hit depending on range
Skill 2/3 – ~2k
Beserker – 4-6k
Mindwrack – anywhere from 4-8k

These are the numbers I feel like I usually hit with (totally going from memory here, probably isn’t very accurate).

Illusionary Beserker—>Illusionary Leap—>Mirror images—>Mind Wrack/Blurred frenzy (same time)
If you somehow manage to land this entire combo on someone with light or medium armor, they’re pretty much dead.

I would LOVE (and other as well) to know how this SF guy got to the top of this tower, with all those supplies and build a treb, a cata and a superior arrow cart….

Many of our guys tried to find a way up but were unable…even if they could get up there, how would he be able build all this solo?

Location: Ruins outside Blue Keep in EB

It’s tricky, but a good mesmer can get up there and then port everyone else up. You have to start near at the vista in the ruins, follow the top of the wall, and then slowly jump up to the top. There is a small path of outcroppings and structural features the devs have added that goes all the way up (it’s harder than most jumping puzzles).

To be honest, it’s kind of a sub-par spot. One arrow cart kills everyone up there. All it really does is confuse blue lol…

Thieves are actually pretty weak in WvW. They have absolutely zero survivability/function in a group fight. The only reason people cry about them is because they are so good at killing uplevels caught outside the zerg (read: new players).

The only class that is worse than the thief for WvW is the ranger. Aside from the AOE barrage skill, they don’t really have any abilities worth mentioning. And the pet dies instantly. Both ranger and thief could use a bit of a rework to make them more potent in big WvW fights.

kazi.6438

I never play PvP. I feel like I should mention the two situations where this trait really shines: WvW and dungeons (especially the ones with insta-gank mechanics, like Aetherblade Retreat). It’s extremely effective in preventing people from focusing you down and even in small WvW fights people usually just switch targets after Elixir S kicks in. Spam the rocket boots key, and then cleanse the rest of your conditions with 409.

I’m usually one of the crazies who runs into the middle of enemy zergs to take out siege and cause general havoc. This trait is often the key to getting out alive. Without it, you’ll often be stunned/dead in <1-2 seconds with no chance to react if they focus you down (it also appears to be skill-lag proof).

The T3 cultural armor has an awesome glow and metallic sheen to it that doesn’t show up in the preview. It’s pretty awesome, but you have to play with the dyes a bit before you get something that looks good. It’s also a gajillion dollars.

Also the whispers gear is pretty sweet and there is a mid-tier crafting armor (leather I think) that looks cool as well. If you want the whispers armor but aren’t in the order, you can do the transmutation trick to get it (google it).

Why is T3 cultural armor not exotic quality?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: kazi.6438

kazi.6438

My understanding is that Anet increased the price from around 8g for the set to 120g in order to give a high-level goal (less difficult than legendaries) for GW2 players to shoot for.

Originally, the set had been of the same price and quality as Order armor. However when the price was increased, the stats were not. I do not think Anet will fix the stats. Transmutation crystals are one of their biggest money makers. On a completely separate note, you used to receive transmutation crystals (not just stones) for completing high-level areas. This was changed to improve gem store proceeds.

The more you know, right?

Feeling a little lost... [Newish Player]

in Engineer

Posted by: kazi.6438

kazi.6438

I know exactly what you are going through and it looks like you shared my exact playstyle in GW1.

1- The quality of armor you are using matters a lot while leveling. Replace your armor with blue or green quality armor every five levels or so and you’ll be able to take a lot more punishment.

2- I recommend using only one kit at a time. The other utility skills are quite valuable, and it can be overwhelming with two or more kits unless you are super good.

3- Turrets suck right now.

4- Rifle does lots of direct damage and CC (knockbacks and immobilization). Pistol/pistol does the most DPS with its huge amount of conditions but takes a little bit of practice. Pistol/shield is good if you like to play defensively. I use P/P obsessively. If you use +conditon damage and duration armor, enemies pretty much melt against P/P.

5- The potions are really powerful depending on your build. If you take the “Cleaning Formula 409” trait using any potion gets rid of a condition. In addition, each elixir gives a lot of powerful boons (these help with survivability). Elixir S (invulnerability) and Elixir B (massive boost to damage+retaliation+speed) are both extremely awesome.

6- I never swap skills in between fights. With the right build, you will be able to handle all situations.

7- The stats on armor/weapons are extremely important. There are two general builds you can use with your armor. If you use the rifle, I suggest Precision/Power/Critical Damage (include a bit of toughness/vitality so you don’t die instantly though). If you use a pistol, use Condition Damage/Precision/Vitality.

Make sure to try out a couple builds before you buy armor at level 80. Armor is usually build-specific and it is expensive if you decide you want a second set for another build once you start using rare/exotic armor. Hope this helps!

At the time of writing, they control the entire EB map, which I have never seen before.

Come back tomorrow morning and NSP will have taken all of our stuff back. We (almost) always do.

And let’s be completely honest: WvW is never a “fair fight.” Some people obsess over the fact that their server is losing in points and stop playing because they don’t think it’s “fair.” If you concentrate on just having a good time killing people and trying to take stuff, you’ll find that the server starts getting more points as a side effect.

If you like being the underdog, NSP is for you. If not, just try to have fun. That’s what WvW is supposed to be about. Like the SF guy said, this whole “I only play win we’re winning” attitude is what lost us the map in the first place.

KoM would never run from anything close to fair. In fact, we spent the majority of yesterday in EB taking on 20+. I tend to recall a 20+ NSP running from us after we attacked. Heck, we probably have it on video.

In no part of my post did I say you guys were bad. Originally we saw three of you sitting near Umber killing supply runners, so we took three people to chase you off. The three we saw ran back, we chased them, and then ~5 more showed up from the ogre camp and jumped us as a combined force of ~8, which was a rude surprise. I included the one or two people from other guilds you had in the total count of players (the exact count doesn’t really make a difference in this case).

Anything that gets posted on these WvW threads that isn’t a direct compliment to the small man teams (from whatever guild or server) seems to be taken as some sort of massive insult to guild ____’s honor.

This is how it usually goes: “You said we ran from a fight!?!?!” -> “You must think we suck!!!” -> “We’re actually better than you in every way imaginable.” -> “To prove how much worse you are than us, we killed 20,000 random pugs from your server that you probably weren’t even involved with.”

Did you run from a fight? In the case I posted about, yes. Does it mean you suck? No. I was just annoyed because I didn’t get the fight I wanted (and ended up getting ganked by a larger group). Nothing more.

Do we have to blow every little comment on this forum way out of proportion? Hopefully not.

WXP should be awarded on death in towers

in WvW

Posted by: kazi.6438

kazi.6438

Biggest pet peeve in WvW is when all of the pugs on a server abandon a tower as soon as the wall goes down. There have been times where it’s like everyone from my server just disappeared as soon as the gate opened. Usually ends with me dead on the floor of the lords room, when probably had enough people to defend successfully before everyone ran.

It goes the other way, too. There have also been a few times when I was trying to take a tower with ~10 people, and the defenders massively outnumbered us. It’s kinda sad when the defenders just vanish, letting you take the tower with zero effort (and they could have wiped us easily).

I know the WXP system is pretty bad (no points for supporting your team, etc.), but hopefully in a new update we can get like a 200 WXP reward for dying in the circle at the lords room. I feel like this would really improve the fights for towers, and be a strong incentive for pugs to actually engage in defensive play (rather than just run from the repair fees).

  • Edit… not gonna necro this thread, but giving WXP to defenders who actually fight to the death is a vast improvement to the people who think its more rewarding to simply abandon ship so that they don’t have to pay repairs. Doesn’t necessarily have to be 200WXP, but just enough to make it worth it to stay and defend to the end rather than run.

I don’t know ANY other small mans on HoD other than who we also run with [KoM]. They run anywhere from 5-9 people. Usually in between. We run at most 6 people. We have never merged the groups…. But have made groups under that 9 person mark. Why you are crying we didn’t hold back on you doesn’t make any sense as those NSP "small " mans inside Zergs haven’t?

[VLK] has some dedicated roamers who are fairly fun to fight with. Granted I spend all of my time in EB, so I probably don’t run into any of the BL ones.

And yeah, I never really understood the whole obsession with “fair fights.” I don’t really mind getting ganked by 7 people every once in awhile because I can’t say I’ve ever held back when I outnumbered someone. I’ve only run into PAXA in 1v5 situations, and I don’t really hold it against them.

The only thing I find slightly annoying is when people will straight up run if they do not outnumber someone. This includes the 10 KoM at umber yesterday (ran every time we brought more than 3 people), and the NSP pugs who instantly abandon a tower/keep when the walls go down. As soon as the gate opens, all of the other NSP disappear into thin air and I’m the only one left in the tower. Usually ends in me dead on the floor of the lords room, when we probably had enough people to mount a successful defense before everyone ran.

Yeah, survivability and ease-of-use are the two nicest things about the elixir gun. Plus skill 4 is like having an extra elixir s. Bad situation? Press button 4. Half the time its enough to escape.

Also I’ve noticed that elixir gun shots will track, meaning that you never miss unless they dodge. This is especially deadly since every autoattack does ~6 seconds of potentially 3 stacks of bleed/burn per shot (this is with traits/sigils).

I’m considering dropping the HGH trait and going 20/30/0/20/0 for the extra 10% condition duration. With long-duration conditions like bleed, extra condition duration is a flat 10% increase in damage, which might be better than HGH in this case now that I think about it (heresy!).

How is the apothecary armor btw? I was looking into that but was unsure how it would play.
