A few ideas about weapons in future updates

Mainhand shield is the most riddiculous thing I have seen EVER. Name me any fantasy (book, game whatever) where someone used 2 shields at once, for whole fight ofc.
What warhorn should do in mainhand? Big no.
Focus is focus and fist is fist. If they add fists, it’s fine, I’d like it. But leave focus in offhand.
Spear/trident as land weapons is k. If You rename harpoon gun, You’ll shoot with xbow underwater? It’s better to create whole set of xbows if there would be a need.

The only thing which is k is mainhand torch imo. But for mages only, optionally guardian.

Chill doesn’t affect casting time (it shouldn’t at least). It cannot be traited to do so because You can’t change the way condtition works, even with traits.

I’m happy the acquisition of Dyes was changed. Waiting for Dye Seeds to mature was not fun (to me).

Good luck.

I think that it’s still better than no dyes :P

Eh, there are a large number of dyes that are less than 3 silver each. One gold will give you a good number, and the fact that dyes were changed from soulbound to account wide means you only have to buy each one once to have it for all your chars. Even an account with one low level char can get enough gold to buy a good selection for the whole account, just running around and harvesting mats for sale or by doing the PvP dailies.

I’ve got most of blue and green dyes, and probably more than 20 yellows. I’m just pointing the issue with unidentified dyes

Yesterday I watched old video from Woodenpotatoes from GW2 beta https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4Wn4wAOZmQ
TL;DR
Watch the video and write Your thoughts about things we had in beta and which we are missing now.
Maybe it was discussed, maybe not. But I actually think that majority of this, let’s call this features, were much better than things we have currently.
I’ll list my thoughts in the same order as in the video.

  1. Login screen – well, I don’t really care about cosmetics. I like one in the video and I like current one. You can’t make everyone happy, let’s skip this. (but if there was an option to change between two login screens, why delete it?)
  2. This one is not actually tied to this topic, we can just thank Anet that we have only 300 hearts.
  3. The idea of spending attribute points by Yourself, not automatically, is interesting. But I like the stats we could choose even better! In that way ranger could actually be a ranger because of maxing ranged damage, scholars could be actual mages because power was divided into MAGIC, ranged and melee damage. Ofc noone forces Your ranger to be an actual ranger <cough>. And there was no healing power which effect is negligible.
  4. I’m not sure if sharing energy between skills and dodgeroll was good idea, i’m sure that I always preferred mana, energy, rage system, combined with cooldowns, (pointing at WoW, Rift) to use skills in combat. CDs only have much less impact on active gameplay (the fact that revenant will need to manage energy together with CDs is great imho).
  5. I’m not going to say if lore-books are good or no. There is a lot of loremasters, who for sure would love this, and I’m into this even though I’d probably skip 90% of them. But so much work with writing all these stories turned into nothing is painful.
  6. If there will be no need to buy traits from trainers they can actually be deleted. I like running to proffesion trainer just to buy my new available skill and check it out! Even the old system with killing mobs was better than current now (I’m not even talking about level restrictions), but system which forces You to run to a profession trainer to learn skill, or even forces You to do some profession related quests in order to learn a skill brings some good memories to me. It’s building up the atmosphere of upcoming op fireballs You will hurl at your enemies. And I would like it much more than current one, even If I had to do all the quests on every alt I have.
    +phoenix on staff #4 <3
  7. I have no single thought on this one. Could be interesting though.
  8. THIS one should be implemented into the game now. As long as there is no source of unidentified dyes, such way to obtain them (even if this could be complicated or time consuming) is a great idea. And it makes quite a lot of sense. Moa dropping a dye makes defnitely less sense (I know that games are not about sense, but still).
  9. My ranger is lvl 30 leveled with scrolls so I have no idea what is WP talking about, but it sounds reasonable to him xD
  10. Transmutation charges being able to buy is a thing! I’m not saying that 2.1k karma is a good or bad price, but this item has literally nothing prestigous or powerfull to put it in the place it is now. (fashion wars ftw)
Secondly, the loading screen. Yes on both. Reasonable text instead of some numbers of waypoints and PoIs, alongside with percentage/bar showing progress is much better thing than spinning circle!

After watching this 12 minutes long video, to conclude this whole wall of text, I’d like to say that (imo) Arenanet ignored a lot of nice things from beta. Number 3 is my main here. Number 6. Number 10 (charges and loading screen). And number 4, but this is controversial.

Post Your thoughts here. Post other funny facts or things that were deleted after beta with no reason.

Healer not a viable role in GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

kuben.9826

In “hardcore” PvE (there is no hardcore PvE in fact) there is only DPS role. You won’t have much fun here if You enjoy playing healer, sadly.
If You want to play as a healer/tank in classic meaning of this word – go play WoW, Rift, or SWTOR. And this is just advice, this game offers nothing besides DPS role. In the best scenario You can play tanky/support build in PvP, but in grind wars You are meant to heal Yourself with Your own skills. There is no place for such builds atm.

New Party Kicking Mechanic is Unfair!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: kuben.9826

kuben.9826

Sollutions i see for party kicking problem are:

  1. Person who OPENED instance cannot be kicked.
This is actually the best (probably, I’m still into party leader option as the best solution), because no matter if you solo the dung or You just run casually, or with friends, YOU are head of Your party. If people doesn’t like You, way You play or everything about You – they can leave, but You can’t be even touched.
  2. Party leader
It can be used in a way it shouldn’t too. Yes. Yes once again. And yes for the third time. But – how often do You got kick from parties You join? And how many times You got kick from parties YOU created? Actually players’ experience can differ, but it’s more popular that joiners cheat the owner, instead of “owner” cheating joiners.
Additionally YOU can create your own party. You risk nothing. In other case You can use report tool more often.
  3. Save instanced progression. (instance saves after boss kill)
Actually I see this only for soloers that got kick from their own party, but this would create multiple problems with people having different progress in same dungeon (creating multiple instances because someone has killed the boss other haven’t). It would still repair problem od DCs in dungeons. And rewards would have to be distributed after each boss, cuz of cloning nearly completed dungeons (someone mentioned it b4)
  4. Party leader / instance owner ONLY is able to set vote kick.
I don’t think this would create a lot of problems with abusing this. I don’t see anything right now, what could be abused.
  5. Bring back old instance owner and let everyone suffer
But it should be changed from the way it worked in the past. Owner should be highlighted, has a crown on top of his head or something. So people know what they are risking when they don’t like You.

As long as people are selling dungeons every option where kicking system relies on poll is hurting em. Disable the ability of soloing dungeons or change party kick system.

Mindless battles against or for something are mindless. Long time ago there should be official poll created by Anet where players can choose which system they like best and winner is implemented. Ofc there can be more than 5 examples I provided. I still think that anet should make a poll about it.

P.S. There is a huge bunch of solutions, every better than public vote kick. IMO public vote kick is worst thing i have ever saw.

I know this example is not perfect, but back when I played WoW I was a Feral DPS (the cat) which primarily relied on the heavy application of bleeds, not dissimilar to GW2 bleeding conditions. It was rarely played because of how difficult it was, but it’s output was really high if you were able to nail the rotation. GW2 doesn’t exactly have that, but it’s somewhat the same.

Comparing GW and WoW condition system is rather a mistake. A big one probably.
Additionaly cat was – mangle, rake, 5CP Rip, shred spam, use CP, shred spam+rake use cp again.. just keep up rake + 5cp rip and occasionaly mangle which was 1min debuff when I played :P If You knoww your class there is no complex rotation. My friend always stared at me pushing 6342792834 buttons on lock, dk or any other class cuz he played retri pal.

@ OP Imagine You live in Poland. You know what? I’ve never seen MMO translated into polish and probably I’ll never see. Btw I’m always laughing at my screen when I try to imagine shooting “kula ognia” or “lodowy pocisk” (yes, I know that You don’t understand) instead of “fireball”/“frostbolt” respectively. Translated skills and many options would sound quite funny in MMO, just my opinion. Does it realy affect your gameplay so much?
I’ve never seen a topic where someone is moaning “no polish subtitles in my favourite game, oh, ah, eh Anet repair it or I’m going to quit it now”. I believe they have better things to do instead of adding next, IMO unnecessary, language into the game.
P.S. I’m not master of english, I’ve never been abroad and I can esily understand 95% of dialogues. Second thing is: You don’t have to understand anything to play effectively and enjoy the game. So i don’t know what content is unaccessible to You.

Increased Bleeding Stacks

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: kuben.9826

kuben.9826

Condi’s have always been capped in sPvP and still have an integral part in the meta. They are very strong against certain matchups(condi pressure from double engi is huge). This should tell you enough about how bad it would be in sPvP if there was no condi cap.

Also your math is wrong when calculating the condi’s. 7k dps from 3 condi classes is not really accurate. You have to take into account if they had high might with most condis stacked on them. In that case it would probably be closer to 8 or 10k, not 7. 25 bleeds alone with might can do close to 3500 damage per second.

Let’s look at the math a little more closely:

we’ll assume 100% uptime of max stats of bleed, burning, poison, and 10 stacks of torment. This is far higher than anyone could ever achieve, but it will be a good illustration for you. This of course is assuming no build up time, no cleansing, and no defenses used.

Numbers taken from: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Condition_Damage

damage per second/attack per stack = Base Damage + (Factor * Condition Damage).

Max condition damage with full ascended is currently ~2000 + 875 for 25 might stacks (lower in PvP, but again we will try to help you out by using PvE stats)

Bleeds: 42.5 + (0.05*2875) = 186 per stack = 4650 dps
Burning: 328 + (0.25*2875) = 1050 dps
Poison: 84 + (0.1*2875) = 371 dps
Torment: 32 + (0.0375*2875) = 140 per stack (10 stacks) = 1400 dps

total condition user dps from any number of sources = 7471 dps

I will even throw in the ~300 dps you do from direct damage applying the conditions to give you a grand total of:

7777 dps. Of course when you factor in build up time, and cleanses this number plummets drastically.

This of course is well above what is reasonably possible, but I was giving the edge to condition users.

I won’t bother doing the direct damage calculations. you can head on over to the ele forums where they have done extensive analysis of direct damage builds if you are interested.

Your math used a condi damage number that is ~246 lower than what is possible — at least for a mesmer. One of my memser WvW builds with full might stacks would be at 3121 condition damage.

Bleeds: 42.5 + (0.05*3121) = 198 per stack = 4950 dps
Burning: 328 + (0.25*3121) = 1108 dps
Poison: 84 + (0.1*3121) = 396 dps
Torment: 32 + (0.0375*3121) = 140 per stack (10 stacks) = 1490 dps (2980 if moving))

That makes the damage 7944 (9434 if moving), which falls into the ~8-10k range for damage form the post you quoted. I did not include the ~300 dps for direct damage.

Of course, this is all hypothetical and in reality cleanses make that impossible to maintain for 100% uptime. However, a mesmers can come very close to those numbers during well set up condi burst. They can also stack on 15 confusion for that burst. With the listed condition damage that would add 7475 per skill use.

Confusion: 65 + (0.075 * 3121e) per stack = 4485 damage per skill use. (It would do significantly more damage in PVE).

I do not usually count confusion in damage potential of builds because only really bad players will spam skills once a spike of confusion is sent at them.

I’m not sure how you are getting quite that high…though I suppose it is possible if you have 25 stack sigil, utility buff and food buff and possibly some infusions.

Of course if you look back at my original post (I cut it to make the post character limit) I was the one that quoted 9k as max dps for condition users. Which was the point. Max dps for power users is ~12-13k dps. And that is real achievable dps, not the imaginary dps that we are using here.

Personally as a necro, I have NEVER seen my bleeds go above 4k per tick. I would love to see kitten of someone actually managing that. It might be possible with the VW buffs on a solo husk champ, maybe? Of course no class that I know of can keep 100% uptime of all those conditions at once. as a necro I can get to the 25 bleed cap in bursts, but the average is ~19. I also have very limited access to burning, and am capped at 5 stacks of torment even with the sigil. I can get 100% poison uptime, though.

But in the end, even just removing the cap would be a monumental achievement for condition users, as we would at least be competitive in the game instead of dead weight. If we get additional changes as well then that would be even better. I think giving conditions the ability to crit in some manner would solve most of the problems.

+200 condi trait on scepter (optional) and +10% of tougness converted into condition damage in every PU build. + some poor mesmers use rune of undead which gives +7% of toughness converted into condition damage

kuben.9826

If You asked me (pve player) i would let benefit from % modifiers while doing condition dmg and/or crit with conditions + make each spell have it’s own condition (idk if affected by ferocity, i’m not a balance master). On my necro with 25 stacks i’m doing 3k+dps + poison and “powerful” AA dmg – it’s something about 3.5k dps? maybe slightly better 50% crit with 200% dmg makes it over 5k. + 25 vulnerability it’s 5250 (remember that conditioners doesn’t stack vulnerability in most cases) It’s not even 6k dps, while thief’s are doing… much more. Relying on this simple math it won’t be unbalanced.
No matter how they will solve it, ANY solve is better than no solve. So work kitten it :P

OP’s idea is realy nice, would be nice to see this in game. And not according to merchant, skins could have tier drop to reduce chance of multiplying useless skins in inventory. For example : 10-19 drops focus, torch, shield (offhands only). 20-29 drops onehands (or semi demanded skins) 30-39 drops most demanded skins like greatsword. Or another graetsword. It’s just an example though. So if i’m going for scepter and dagger I would run only 10-19 and 20-29. Same could go with rings, zerk at the top and some healing based on low tiers. But i’m not sure if I would like this.

Party leader or something

I was selling dungeon just now, 2 guys came into my party. Classic situation – no response, running around whole dungeon. And what? I can’t kick them out of my own party cuz they are 2, and I am 1 (nope, zero friends online). I indicated a kick and luckily one guy was kicked. So if there was “1v1” i press rmb – kick player. I was realy surprised when I saw loading screen of plains of ashford. I joined the guy who I wanted to kick (I thought he’s inside) but he wasn’t. Two edged blade I would say.
Party system realy needs to be reorganised, lack of leader sucks. The other option is to kill every single player who does not communicate with party, and this is not likely to happen or implement IQ test b4 entering pt which is even better than p. leader :P And for those who say p. leader is even worse – just do Your own PT. People use lfg a lot and will join You.

TL;DR
Even after changes in party kicking option it’s still unfair for solo players, who are on worse position, than group of two joining party.

P.S. And second thing. Why the hell party chat resets after leaving? i can’t even take screenshot of empty chat cuz it disappeared xD

So... where are the dungeons?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

kuben.9826

GW2 delivers fun .. not grinding

Not sure if being sarcastic or not..

Nope i’m not sarcastic.
The OP made the point -> the WHOLE content of nearly any other MMO is nothing but grind to gain access to new content which is grind again

These dungeons are generally what keep people playing the content as they search for new gear and master the encounters…

- i would like to add that you have to do the same things again with every alt you create

GW2 offers you optional stuff to hold you in the game that you don’t have to do if you don’t want it.
It is confirmed that there will be challanging content and we know nothing about it atm but we can be sure that it won’t be like the other MMOs. So the comparison the OP did is not useful and the OP shouldn’t expect something like he mentioned .

Is there an equivalent in HoT? What will keep us playing after we finish the story 2-3 weeks in?
I just haven’t seen any info on this, i’m sure it is somewhere, but I can’t find it.

There won’t be any Dungeon-gergrind-treadmill. Im Sure we’ll get dungeons but they won’t do the main part of holding us in the game – gw2 never worked that way.
in PVE it will be mostly focused on Masteries (jeez there can be so many possibilities) / Collections (like the Silverwastes one for the Carapace gear) / Precursor-Hunting and of course dynamic events with new chains and bosses (like Vinewrath or the wyvern). Also the challenges could play a bigger role.

So it will definitively not be like other MMOs – the biggest comparison we could do should be the Silverwastes as the Devs mentioned that Orr once was planned like SW in much bigger scale with bigger impact for the map and the map-mechanics.

wow you really bought their hype hook line and sinker…

You go on and on about how GW2 does not have grind then proceed to list:

luminescent armor (have to grind the same content 40-50 times to finish collection)
masteries (must grind to get ALL of them to complete the content, they are not optional)
precursors (must grind 1000g by running 500+ dungeons)
Vinewrath (currently farmed continuously in full grind mode)

Those are all far worse grinds than anything offered in WoW… in WoW you need to do a dungeon 3-5 times to get the gear you need, then you can do another dungeon… in GW2 you need to do a dungeon 30+ times to get a full gear set. GW2 is significantly more grindy than other MMO’s, I want it to be LESS grindy by offering dungeons like in other MMOs.

1. Better cooperative play

This. There’s a lot of content in GW2 which is easier solo (You are no-life, know every animation and u can safely bet you’ll win, in longer time though) than with a group (riddiculous for MMO), cuz someone didnt dodge and were thrown through the length of room and boss shadowwalked to him. <cough>lupi<cough>.

As a WoW “fanboy” I realy miss role of healer. I don’t know how people can get bored with a healer role which was the most demanded probably in every “trinity” MMO. Still, for no reason, I enjoy GW2.
But according to topic: think what would happen if dodge was removed. Zerks wouldnt be so popular. Probably there is a solution for PvE other than removing dodge, but i’m thinking about it for ages, and it’s the easiest thing to do which comes to my mind to remove zerk meta, stacking, and meleeing every content.

So the answer is to change the game’s core design…

This is an action game, built on actively defending yourself. The sooner people accept that and learn to dodge the sooner they can enjoy the game for what it is, which is quite a beautiful game design and honestly much tougher than the majority of gameplay in other MMOs.

Oh, I really accept it, but it (dodge option) changes PvE so drastically, that You should implement whole bunch of stuff to make the opposite of “stacking zerk meta speedclears”, which unfortunately they didn’t implement.
Btw i think that, sooner or later, they’ll do something about core game mechanics. Idk what, idk when but something will happen eventually. I bet.

Perhaps I’m missing some part of the issue here, but I don’t understand why they don’t just let more than one person stack conditions of the same type. Other games have done it in that way just fine.

If they’re worried about PvP, they could just add an exception that it stays the way it is now when applied to players.

This is what i wrote few posts earlier. Somebody linked topic where guy wrote, that letting everybody to have “personal” conditions cannot exist. But i can’t understand why. It’s so mystic for me…

Condition Stacking – I solved it… mostly

I won’t say I have a solution what to do with condition damage, but:

Firstly – all light classes are mages.
Secondly – all light classes do not inflict MAGIC damage, just raw physical damage when zerkering. Same damage as warrior and all anything else. Which can be reduced by armor. Armor reducing magic damage? Seriously? “Spatial Surge” doesn’t seem to be “physical”, but it is.
Thirdly – All magical classes inflict SAME conditions. And not only “lighters”.
Wouldn’t be kind of option to separate elementalists, necros and mesmers debuffs/conditions? Each class could have their OWN conditions. And save bleeding for physical damage classes like war, thief. I don’t want to kill creating condition classes other than “mage”. But separate magic from physical bleeding. It’s just an example.

Here comes my idea:
You have Your skills as, for example, a necro (my favourite class, but I forget about playing necro cuz it’s unplayable in dungeon pve. So selfish profession Just reminding You, Anet). Blood curse AA chain #1. You add tons of bleeding. Single necro can stack like 15+ bleeds with AA. 2 necros are capped at 25 with AA. Funny. And here is my thought. You autoattack and instead of bleed You can apply “blood curse” effect, lasting for the same time as actual bleed. You cast “Grasping Dead” and You apply effect named “Grasping Dead” which deals condition damage over some time.

It’s some kind of creating “personal” conditions. But Grasping Dead still could be capped at 25 if 26 necromancers would hit one mob at the same time. Someone could name it “Hey, it’s ripped from WoW”. He wouldn’’t lie. But for me spell creating its own effect, stacking with the same spell, is better, than effects stacking from different spells.

Same thing is about boons. Let’s look at Lineage2, not WoW. NCSoft binds GW and L2 :P. In L2 You have so much buffs, debuffs, effects… I have never learned it all cuz of my short engagement into this game. You could consider it as disadvantage. Sure. It’s way easier to have for example 10 buffs and 10 debuffs instead of very big variety of them.
Conclusion: Every class still has ability to play as condi. There will be no problems with overstacking bleeds unless there are 26 people of same class, using same skill at the same time. Problem could be in condi removals. But I’m sure this thing also could be fixed.
P.S. You can see it’s already implemented! Go and fight risen drake in orr. You’ll get ichor debuff (33% slow, can’t be removed). Fight offhand sword warrior. #4 and You get impale. ONLY warrior can impale the enemy. This idea is just half-introduced. Maybe not even half… But still.

P.S.2 You can’t be 100% original in MMO. You have lot of MMOs. Lot of MMOs using same stuff in a lot of things. There are already good things You can just use, Anet. Attract people to play Guild Wars 2. Do not scare them with this title. Just my thoughts.

This was very annoying so everyone ragequited, lol. Anyone with same problem?

Life Blast Out of range

I noticed it ~~2 days ago on Svanir Shaman. I stayed like 2 meters from him and when using Lifeblast I saw “Out of range!”. The effect stopped when I changed position. This happen mostly when staying for some time in the same place, situation or place doesn’t matter. Today I noticed that projectile just goes next to target, not even touching it, popping “Out of range!” at the same time. I noticed it only PvE.
Anyone with this problem? It can be quite annoying.
I also noticed that sometimes I can see nothing. I mean I can’t see numbers, I can’t see “Out of range!”
