Rate my pet idea

This idea would (hopely) be approved by both pet lover’s and pet haters. First, you have the option to stow your pet. Stowing and un-stowing your pet CANNOT be used in combat.
When you stow your pet the following happens:
You have f1, f2, and f3 skils now.
f3 is pet swap. f1 and f2 are now based off of the pet and the effect is carried out BY THE RANGER HIMSELF/HERSELF.
for example if you have wolf equipped:
f1: howl at your foes inflicting fear for 2 seconds (shout animation)
f2: that canine pounce skill that has knock down. (copy warriors kick animation)
f3: pet swap

if you have river drake equipped:
f1: lighting breath (you shoot lighting from your location)
f2: tail swipe blast finisher (use warrior stomp animation)

if you have jaguar equipped (this is the fun part)
f1: stalk (gain stealth and the other benifits from the skill)
f2: maul

and so forth…. as you can see skills would be derived from the pet itself but the effect would be carried out by the ranger.

The trait line beastmastery would not change if you pet is out, but if your pet is stowed the attribute bonus changes to : (reduce cooldown on pet skills and pet swap by 1% per point spent).

if you pet is stowed, skill multipliers are changed to reflect the loss of pet dps.

Finally (apoligies for long post) I thought of a new trait
that would appear somewhere on the beastmastery trait line:
grandmaster trait:
Animal spirt: if you pet is stowed you gain an attribute bonus based on the type of pet you have equipped.
felines: bonus crit damage
bears: bonus toughness

and so forth..

Is damage derived linearly from your attack stat? For example if you have 3,000 attack and you increase your attack by 300 to 3,300 is that equivalent to increasing your damage by 10%?

no doubt. skirmishing in particular is a bit odd. Not to mention so many of the powerful useful traits are grandmaster, limiting possible builds.

If you’re running any kind of dps build, staying in GS for too long is suicide. GS is only used to:
1. do some quick burst damage
2. block
3. swoop away.
This could have been decent with some kind of BM build with fortifying bond to share perma-fury with your pet but the internal cooldown makes this not work either. Also this trait should be in skirmishing or marksmanship. Here are some suggestions for the trait:

Swoop does double damage if used from stealth and evades for the duration.
or.
Block reflects projectiles, throwing your GS creates a smoke field at your enemy’s location.
or.
hilt bash is a blast finisher

Are ascended weaponry ever going to be sold for laurels? I’m currently around weaponsmithing level 415 and getting to 500 will likely drain all my resources. Not ranting or anything, just curious if I should wait or it’s never going to happen.

Thx for posting all I’m not asking for nerfs per say, I’m asking to transfer dps/utilities from ai abilities to the player. This would actually be a buff to people who are willing to play more aggresively.

I still haven’t fought a skilled mesmer tho, can someone tell me how it fairs? I was thinking longbow 3 stealth for safetly setting up a barrage would be amazing for clearing clones/illusions.

This was in pvp. and once I feel more comfortable with the build I’m probably gonna go semi glassy in wvw. The signet build needs high pressure. Once you’ve popped sos, it doesn’t matter how much toughness you have, you better hope you oponent is downed.

as for 30/20/20, without clarity, GS combo seems kinda meh.

If i may: for GS/LB rangers. GS 4 takes care of the first stealth. immediateley use hilt bash maul combo. If he steaths again, dodge, then swoop away to put some distance between you. switch to LB and try to bust him down when he appears. If he stealth’s again and all skills are on cd, sig of stone can be used as a last resort (if you have the trait). Most thiefs run refuge so when you see it BARRAGE! He will heal, interupt it with longbow 4 and he’ s in trouble!

I know the changes are old news but I haven’t played ranger a while. Did a bunch of duels with 30/30/10 LB/GS full glass. Though I was gonna have a bad time, but actually had a blast! Amazing what one stealth skill can do! Barrage is now usable 1v1 (stealth isn’t broken until damage occurs) and also sweet ninja combos can now be used! (stealth-swap-GS combo)

suggestions:
reduce sig of stone cd to 60 (like endure pain) and make it a stun breaker (like endure pain)
active condi removal: rework signet of renewal or reduce its cd. Healing spring helps ALOT but isn’t enough for longer fights.
slighty reduce cooldown of sig of hunt and the wild. Right now what zerker ranger’s need is a more reliable burst roation. I’m not asking for a massive cd reduction on hunt and wild, just something more reasonnable. sig of hunt – maul is strong, but it’s no eviserate!

I’m not a great player but I have been playing for a while and hopely have some insight on the current scene, first an analogy.

I used to play Diablo 2 and my first char was a minionmancer. The minionmancer wasn’t really a competitive build. It lacked effectiveness in many situations and wasn’t competitive. Why did I play it? because even with terrible gear and low skills, I could clear the highest difficulty.

back to gw2:

Passive play builds should NEVER be the meta. Passive builds should allow newer players the ability to enjoy PvP and WvW without quitting the game in frustration. HOWEVER, once those players get better, it should behoove them to switch to more challenging build. A good player should always get more out of a skilled build then a passive ai build.

suggestions:

mesmer: increase weapon damage, decrease phantasm damage and illusion condi traits.
ranger: increase weapon damage, decrease spirit abilities.

about necromancers: aoe targetting is a skill, but marks don’t require any skill…
arcing arrow is so slow it requires skill, cluster bomb same thing. ele targetting aoe’s require skill.

Phantasm Berserker: whirlwind attack has a great chance of landing multiple hits
Phantasm Duelist: ranged attack hits multiple times, even if they dodge they could still get hit.
phantasm Swordsman: lunging attack is quick, decent range, and hits very reliably.

pet attack: guaranteed to hit…. stationary targets?

Thx for the advice, I tried it out and you guys were right on the money. QZ is very useful, I don’t have enough condi protection, and my own damage was kinda lacking.

Is a pet buff build even worth it? should i just concentrate on the rangers dmg?

would this work for wvw solo roaming?

hello, can someone help me tweak this solo roaming build?
The premise is basically to utilize companions might, two-handed training, fortifying might, and sigil of battle to boost the kitten out your pets. i thought birds would be nice with their high crit chance plus pets prowess (30% increased crit dmg). Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Just wanted to expand on what afterlife just posted.

The good: Ascended items give players something to reach for, a reason to keep playing. Things that are hard to get are rewarding.

The bad: The fundamentals of what this game used to be was that you could play your character the way you wanted to.

If you wanted to WVW, you could do nothing but WVW and eventually be as strong as anyone. If you wanted to do dungeons, you could do nothing but dungeons and eventually be as strong as anyone. You didn’t have to waste your time doing things you didn’t want to do.

Now this has all changed. Personally I enjoy WvW the most. I could WvW everyday for a YEAR! and not be even close to having the gold or materials to get ascended.

The solution: Anet think about what items are universal to every game type.
1. laurels
2. skill points
3. mystic coins

Yes ascended items should be hard to get, yes ascended items should be time gated. But don’t force players to do things they don’t want to do to get them. Don’t turn this game into a boring grindfest.

Meh, my only issue with mesmer speed is from 1-79. They should make consumables that give a minor speed boost like 15% or something. Similar to those Zhpehere things.

I think digiowl is right, I was complaining about t3 light cultural leggins only to find out it only looks bad on the buffest model sylvari. The t3 shoulders are kinda wierd too, has the floating effect. Aside from that, I love the sylvari cutural armors.

am I supposed to show the world how good I’m not, with tanky condi warriors stanking up the place? Everytime I run into one of these donuts three things happen:
1. They immobilize me oh I don’t know.. 50 thousand kittening times.
2. I realize the 46 stacks of bleeding on my person, panic, and begin pooping kittens.
3. I die. But ohhh noooo, I don’t die bravely. I die immobilized, giving the kitten and his “bros” ample time to stab me in mah sweet ’n sours.

I like the trick pyro taught me with mantra and centaur. use mantra until a fight then switch to ether. If you time mantra casts, you can stack a minute or so of swiftness pretty easily.

Thx peeps! I used centaur runes today and really liked them. I decided to some quick math for your benefit as well: (assume ether feast is being used and 100% boon duration)
centaur: 62% of the time 1.33 times speed 38% of the time 1.00 speed
average speed: 20% faster
traveler: 100% of the time 1.25 times speed
average speed: 25% faster
However, I imagine centaur is better for short encounters and maybe escaping.

Hey board, I had a question about rune choice, specifically for wvw roaming: traveler or centaur runes? I know this has been asked before, but I’m not sold on either yet. Everyone seems to act like traveler runes are superior but isn’t speed paramount for roaming?

In real life, smaller groups are always more mobile. How bout giving a speed debuff to anyone surrounded by a massive amount of allies? Smaller zergs would recieve a small debuff while giantic ones would recieve a pretty severe penalty to speed.

I agree with most of your first paragraph: even with fury, 300 power is about 2% better than 300 precision and 300 power is about 5% better than 30% crit damage. However, if your trait bonus gives you both prec and crit dmg, and you have steady fury uptime, crit will always be better by a pretty large margin (even with a soldier or cleric ammy).

I agree with your second paragraph, this was a very shallow study albeit hopely useful for at least a few people.

Was procrastinating today and wanted to share my findings:

First of all, traits are of course more important than the bonus stats you get, however, if you can’t decide (Their are sweet traits in both lines), this might help you make your choice.

Assumptions: steady weapons are scaled multiplicatively with their real counterparts

Note: don’t take the DPS value as a literal number, use it as a comparison with the other DPS values.

w/o fury

Amulet Max DPS (not a literal value)
Berzerk: crit is 1.02 times better 120.69 crit setup
Soldier: power is 1.04 times better 97.66 power setup
Cleric: power is 1.06 times better 83.64 power setup
Barbarian: power is 1.03 times better 96.35 power setup
Valk: power is 1.02 times better 97.66 power setup

with fury
Berzerk: crit is 1.14 times better 149.85 crit setup
Soldier: crit is 1.09 times better 115.92 crit setup
Cleric: crit is 1.08 times better 98.81 crit setup
Barbarian: crit is 1.11 times better 115.92 crit setup
Valk: crit is 1.12 times better 124.74 crit setup

So basically, with fury, the crit is better, w/o fury, power is better EXCEPT for zerkers.
If you aren’t a class that has crit damage and precision in the same trait line, power will most likely be a better choice no matter what unless you’re using zerker gear in which case its probably pretty close (haven’t done the math).

another note: without fury, soldier = valk, with fury valk > soldier. Also, without fury soldier > barbarian and with fury soldier = barbarian.

Necro corruptions give the user conditions, what about a weapon set that synergized with that?

skill 1: 3 attack chain, last attack does bonus damage based on number of conditions the user has.

skill 2: hard hitting attack or hard hitting channeled attack, does heavy damage but weakens the user afterwards.

skill 3: some kind of pull or gap closer. Chills the user and the target.

skill 4: (long cooldown) aoe “well like” skill. Each pulse copies one condition from the user to any enemies in the effect radius.

skill 5: (long cooldown) gain boons based on the user’s conditions, this would not remove the conditions, just give the user boons using a conversion chart.
