I never undertand waths the deal with housing… There are MILLIONS of players.. it’s imposible to do that.
Nothing is impossible. Just like in real life, not everyone can/should own a home. There could be the option for players to have their own instanced section, if they want, and others to simply own nothing at all. For players like me, we’d be willing to pay a premium to own and live in a non-instanced space within a place like Divinity’s Reach.
I think the main problem with player housing, as cute as it is and how cool it was in games like EQ2, is that it makes the cities so, SO dead. With so many players sitting in their houses decorating its going to take away the liveliness of cities fast. Heck right now I’m already struggling to find another living soul in Black Citadel although I suppose my time zone has much to do with it.
The city is dead as it is. That’s why using existing housing structures in areas such as Divinity’s Reach and turning them into non-instanced housing for players would make the city become more alive. The game is beautiful, they’ve put a tremendous amount of effort into many details. However, almost seems like a waste of time since they haven’t put any purpose for players to stick around.
Player housing would be the beginning of that purpose. I’d pay extra just to own land/housing in Divinity’s Reach.
I just wrote a thread about this. I’d LOVE to see non-instanced housing in Divinity’s Reach.
I diverted from “hand held” questing last night on my new char and began exploring Divinity’s Reach. I must say only then did I really begin to appreciate the beauty of this game and all the work that went into it graphics/environment-wise.
However, while beautiful, it did feel rather empty and purpose-less. With all the housing in Divinity’s Reach I thought how great would it be if the many empty buildings were actual player houses. Perhaps each could have it’s own access to a bank and other NPCs or add some further purpose to having a home in GW2.
They said during beta they only have conquest to start things off and they’ll add more game modes “shortly”.
Can you link to this? I’d like to know what other modes. Hopefully NOTHING that has to do with cap points/“conquest”. Dying to see capture the leader and team death match.
They’re probably going to release other game types in the future. I just can’t fathom for the life of me as to why they chose cap points/conquest as the game mode for release??
That is the WORST choice for PVP. Jade Quary was always full of PvEers. PvPers want game types where the ultimate goal is to destroy the other team. I’m hoping for either TDM or Capture the Leader. If only 1 can be implemented, I’d rather it not be CTF because that’s another similar “conquest” style game mode although I’m not opposed to having it in as long as TDM and hopefully CTL are added.
I would imagine that within 6 months they will release something else but that is just way too long. I’m BORED.
Just tired of cap points. How could they release a game without TDM or other game types like Capture the Leader? Never liked cap points to begin with.
Heart of the Mists has at least 1 NPC that yawns constantly. This is extremely irritating especially when you’re in an area that you stay at for long periods of time (evaluating all armor, sigil, and jewel combinations for your build).
I’m quickly finding sPvP boring because of the cap point system. It needs variety. I’m mainly still playing in hopes that ArenaNet will add new game modes such as TDM, Capture the Leader and CTF. However, this yawning certainly doesn’t help me feel like I want to stick around.
Agreed, sPvP is boring because many people find the cap point system Boring.
We need game objectives such as TDM, Capture the Leader and CTF.
Underwater combat isn’t fun, don’t see a sense in removing it all together but definitely agree in that the devs should cease focus on this and shift towards implementing other game modes. This is urgent.
I’m wondering ETA on TDM, CTL and/or CTF styles of gameplay.
I really hated every “cap point” objective in GW1 which is why I stayed away from Jade Quary and played Random Arenas instead. HA was great but took too long to build a team only for it to fizzle and everyone leave after losing first map. I did get to rank 9 though but eventually stuck with RA.
/signed don’t like this map. There should be a vote system as there are on most FPS games to skip maps.
Yes! Not only should they bring back RA, but I’d love to see a new Capture the Leader style of gameplay as well similar to gears of War.
Also, TDM/Freeze tag doesn’t/shouldn’t have to be a “mindless head to head zerg” if implemented properly such as team mates spawning at random locations throughout the map as it is with most FPS games not in 2 sets of cages.
I want to see Capture the Leader similar to Gears of War.
I also want to see Team Death Match, while I don’t mind the racking up kills/points style for people who want that.. I’d prefer to see something similar to Quake Live Freeze Tag mode, where the goal is to kill the entire time in order to score. When you kill an enemy player they are “frozen”(or “downed” in GW2), then their teammate can revive them if possible.
I agree point capture pvp is zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
+1 I’m hoping for TDM, capture the leader or capture the flag is ok too.
I’m not a fan of the pets/NPCs, but I doubt that’s going to change being that this obviously something they thought about during development but seeing as they’ve invested so heavily on NPCs, seems like ArenaNet planned it this way……
When I first saw the mesmer spitting out all those clones instead of rupting their opponent like in GW1, I was a bit disappointed.
However, what I don’t like most of all currently is the cap point game type. That’s something that detracts from the game BIG TIME. It encourages selfishness, it’s repetitive and boring. I’m hoping they add different game types like CTL, TDM or CTF… like soon.
I’m rank 20 and now that the allure of potential pretty armor(aka fluff) is starting to fade, I’m finding the PvP browser a bore and not seeing a point in playing any further if this is the only game type.

You’re right, it is Guild Wars 2 PvP.
No, GW2 PvP so far smells a lot like rehashed Jade Quary stuff. No disrespect, but as far as I’m concerned, JQ is/was for noob PvEers who need to be in a zerg to feel powerful. There’s not much skills/coordination fun in capping points.
I’ve spent to many hours on Gw1, reaching r9 c2 g5..
I played about 20 hours in Gw2, and i’m already getting borred.
There’s no teamwork, only 10 ppl jumping like bunnies all over the map, mashing their keyboard.
Please guys, tell me i’m not the only one thinking Gw2 ruined Gw1 pvp spirit.
And oh, yes I tried tPvp.
I’m Rank 9 HA and Glad 8 RA and feel the same way!
Don't see the point of the PvP gear in GW2, maybe I don't get the system?

If you’re losing your will to play after you’ve cleared all the fluff out of the way, then there’s definitely an issue.
I feel the OP because I’m feeling the same way right now. This point capping system is Boring. I’m only sticking around in hopes TDM or Capture the Leader is added.
In GW, all I did was RA and HA (the original old school styles of play GW was founded on). If I wanted to run around capping points all day, I’d stick with GW1 Jade Quary which I never liked since they implemented it.
Why does everyone keep jumping straight to CTF? How about TDM or CTL?
Anyway, as to your concerns? Guardian easy, when holding a flag you can’t use your regular skills as you are no longer holding a weapon/s.
Mesmer, objects can be made not to be brought through portals. Even if they could, I don’t think the portal is that devastating due to the amount of time it stays up. The objections to CTF are getting a little ridiculous.
Yes been waiting on this, I’m sure they’ll add it.
whips seems like a boring weapon though… It just seems like a boring concept and boring art.
An elementalist lashing out fire or thunderbolts with a whip doesn’t sound boring to me.
Or a mesmer using a phantom whip to stun or cripple their opponents.
Vlaid, I disagree, one could say the very same thing about this cap point system. What about TDM or Capture the Leader? There are many other FUN game types that can be added.
I’m not crazy about CTF but the same way some classes wouldn’t defend a cap point alone, some just shouldn’t run the flag. It’s not really a valid point against different game types.
How can Arenanet prevent ppl from zerg-farm in the middle ? :P
Or having 5 players istantly blow up the flagman ? :P
I feel ur pain sometimes btw :P
By having the flag grant a buff? Seriously it’s not too hard to think of SOMETHING, ANYTHING except point caps.
Honestly, I want to see Capture the Leader and TDM looks like it’d be really fun.
Everyone keeps asking about this. here I’d like to see TDM and Catpure the Leader. Made a thread about it here and they moved it to “game suggestions”.
I agree with you. Never liked Jade Quary in GW1, can’t stick around here if there’s no options like HA or RA in GW2. RA is the only thing that kept me entertained in GW1. Quick fun matches.
GW2 has so much potential with its FPS style but the cap point system is BORING.
I say remove the dyes. Who the hell looks at characters anyway? I’m constantly tabbing through the names. Never understood why they didn’t allow costumes in PvP in GW1, I mean really how is that even an exploit?
Everyone has blue and red names above their heads. I never had an issue identifying team mates in GW1.
Don’t know why they didn’t just stay with the color capes….
I like this idea.
I just came home from a 3 hour work out at the gym and still don’t like looking at my sexy armor drenched in red or blue dye, thanks.
+1 on this because I just wrote a post with some suggestions like TDM with QuakeLive freeze tag twist, Capture the Leader and CTF.
Point capping is BORING. Never liked Jade Quary in GW1 and don’t like it here. I don’t want to come across any point capping maps at all. It should be totally separate.
First, let me say my experience of Guild Wars 1 for 6+ years consisted primarily of original old school PvP like HA and RA. As anyone who’s played RA knows many guilds exist simply for this. Goals were simple: kill the other team while working together as a team – FUN! I never cared much for the later implemented JQ because cap point objectives/zergs are not my thing at all. It’s just a style that attracts many PvEers and there’s not much real skill involved – just my opinion! I also don’t care for PvE but didn’t mind grinding through it to get all the pretty armors.
Suffice to say I share other people’s disappointment with the current set of PvP options in GW2. Personally I’m rank 20 and quickly finding that if it wasn’t for the goal of getting different/unique armor, I wouldn’t be playing at all.. and I’m beginning not to(why I’m here playing ForumWars instead!). There’s so much PvP potential particularly given GW2’s FPS style gameplay.
The following game types would fit perfect in GW2 and expand its potential for epic PvP:
Team Death Match – with a Quake 3 Arena/Quake Live “Freeze Tag” twist:
TDM is requested often. If implemented, an interesting format would be something similar to Q3’s Freeze Tag mod where the goal is to kill or “freeze” the entire enemy team in order to score.
Your team mates have the ability to “unfreeze”/revive you which meshes well with GW2’s “downed” feature. Although I’m not opposed to both, I would find ‘Freeze Tag’ more interesting than TDM where the goal is simply to rack up the most enemy kills.
Capture the Leader
Envision at least 1 city style type of map(similar to areas of Divinity’s Reach) with building/housing structures you can enter with multiple floors and just enough hiding spots. Add some window smashing, rooftop hopping, heavy map artillery and sounds like loads of fun! One person on your team is randomly designated as the team leader. Enemy team will keep re-spawning until their leader is killed. Style similar to Gears of War.
Capture the Flag
Objective here is self explanatory as most people are familiar with CTF and this has been requested often.
What are your thoughts? While TDM and CTF are popular requests, CTL would be particularly fun in GW2.
I agree, get rid of the dyes! There was never a need for them in GW1.
You have RED and BLUE NAMES floating above your head for goodness sakes, that should be to quickly identify an enemy player if necessary, not only that but you are also provided with target nearest enemy buttons.
