FTR there was a scam going on with people trying to bump the price of named weapons. This sounds dangerously close to someone working on trying bumping the price of ebonblades…
I tend to average a 1-1 ratio over a broad number of salvages, I’ll have to test again later.

As said, it just needs to be a different route rather than being about pure gold – 1 million karma, 10000 badges, WHATEVER! Just something other than RNG luck.
My recent salvages have been in line with expectations.
In my experience with upconverting I have also run into the problem of DR to the extent where I would just stop.
I have seen software developers swear blind that a bug does not exist until they have been convinced to test it themselves and see the evidence of the bug in person. Linsey, I would appeal to you to actually test this out on a dev client rather than relying on how you and other developers believe it is opperating.
I recall reading a while ago that Arenanet had gone from being a company primarily comprosed of programmers to one based around the artists…..with the result that we are seeing many decisions which represent “form over function”, this being one of the more in-your-face examples. (The other, for anyone interested, are the non-gameplay related UI elements. In brief “PvP locker” as a prime example).
I also recall reading that Anet are listening to us. We are telling Anet that the ability to change FoV without investing in a 3 monitor setup (or use 3rd party hacks) is important to us. It would be nice if we felt like we were being listened to…
“a dev who likes RNG… no words to express my feelings currently. i am done with this^^”
No quote button, again!
I feel similarly frustrated. I also feel that Ms (?) Murdock and her employers need to be schooled in the inherent dangers of gambling based systems of play and addiction.
This is the sort of design which can ruin lives – everytime I hear of someone dropping $thousands on gems I just pray that they can aford it rather than being some young person with a MMO addiction. As a UX designer I cannot in words express the scorn I feel for this.
As a gamer, I can express my frustration and agreement with the OP that there needs to be an option to obtain these precursors that comes from playing the game (even if its an option that takes the average player months) rather than this RNG based system.

Welcome to GW2, the worlds first epic fantasy themed masssively multiplayer online slot machine simulator.
I’ve more or less given up on PvE apart from leveling alts and only step away from the TP to play WvWvW.
It doesnt really matter that a number of these entered the game via bugs/exploits, what matters (IMO) is giving people a fair chance of obtaining these themselves WITHOUT being subject to the whims of the gold/tp economy.
If the only means of aquiring precursor weapons is via gold (either via exotic conversions, which due to the RNG nature of the method could mean that someone might never aquire the precursor they need; or via buying on the TP) these are items which will always be in limited supply and large demand hence will continually inflate in price.
An alternate means of aquisiton means that there will always be a ceiling value on these
I believe that there does need to be a capped price on these precursors to prevent this pure market speculation. As it is the gambling element of obtaining one is a bad idea ~ yes, these should be hard to get but should not be “gameable” in this manner.
Given many of us enjoy WvW/PvP I’d strongly push for these to also be available for badges/karma/glory as an alternative which would at least set a cap on their gold value.
I have to say neither do I.
It is possible a consquence in the fixing of the LIFO quantities bug but it just doesnt make sense that we get the incorrect “cheapest item” price returned in the search results.
It means that legitimate buyers have to click through on EVERY SINGLE ITEM to find out the “real” price which when youre looking for gear or weapon upgrades is just kitten frustrating. e.g. I had to go thorugh nearly 80 items to decide on some weapon items to try out.
While the tp needs a fix, incorrect information isn’t the way to do it.
Since yesterdays patch the TP is showing the incorrect pricing in the search results – i.e. it no longer shows the lowest price for an item.
I’m curious if this is intentional or a bug – it’s certainly resulting in some interesting price variations across weapons/armor.
I miss this and mercs/heroes. These were core gameplay elements of GW1 and created incredible complexity (obviously very hard for game designers to balance though, and technically challenging to create good AI).
While aesthetically GW2 is far superior to GW1, I think that under-the-skin GW1 was/s the superior game.
I believe it is like this because the designer thought that they would make it easier for people to make a quick sale. Personally I believe that neither should be highlighted – the user should be forced to make a decision, however an additional session based “remember this choice” option would be ideal, allowing users to make large numbers of quick sales but not forcing the option on them again the next time they use the trading post.
As an aside this one caught me out yesterday with the loss of nearly 1G
Are we having a vulnerability disclosure day? This could get messy grin
The listing fee is fine and serves a useful purpose. The hidden 10% sales tax is a real problem though since still a large proportion of players are not aware of it AND it hinders players, crafters and traders in making a profit.
Personally I would remove the sales tax but keep the listing fee – HOWEVER I would apply the listing fee to buy orders as well in order to prevent the market speculation that we are seeing. There, 2 problems solved, one simple solution.
Not feeling the Thief in PvP: Far too focused on cookiecutter builds.

Dagger/Dagger condition builds are incredibly powerful – I can hold out 3 vs 1 and have won a few 2 vs 1 fights. 1 vs 1 I’m probably at 80/20 win/loss and not a particularly good player. But yes, its cookie cutter and a bit repetative so I’ve tried to swap to using the shortbow and….it seems very underwhelming.
Basically theif seems to have a handful of very effective builds which are easy to play but the range of choice feels lacking.
I bought 5 to try my luck – I like the mystery potions that we now get, great idea.
However I’m starting to feel like the game is a great big slot machine – gamble at the mystic forge, gamble on which dyes you get, which minis you get etc etc. While that can be fun on occassion and I’m sure its making anet profit, as a gamer I feel more than a little bothered by it. shrug Maybe Im not anets target demographic.
I dont recall having disabled it but I discovered yesterday when I had my laptop with me and was working remotely that the email authentication is either disabled or isnt working properly.
I have to agree this should be toggleable.
I think most people with a bit of gold spare have been buying gems. The problem is that a few peeps have made hundreds (perhaps thousands) of gold via various means and are now buying huge amounts of gems, hence raising the cost.
Basically expect a lot of volitility in the price of gems for at least a few months when they will find some natural equilibrium.
I ran into something like this tonight but it was due to having > 250 transactions (I’d bought a LOT of differnt things) pending and money counts as a transaction. Once I picked things up from the trading post the money appeared…
A simple fix for 1c micro-cutting that would greatly improve the high-end market! Discussions within!

I’m going to agree with KDragon here. If we want/need to revise DOWN a price, we should be able to do so for free. I’d add though that if we want to increase a price we should be able to do so but subject to 5% on the difference.
Yes it will cause pricing wars (good for buyers) but it allows traders more flexibility to compete AND CORRECT ERRORS which I view as the most important use case for this change.
And while we’re at is, let us adjust buy orders – my hands hurt with the current system :/
Look at your selling history and compare – maybe some of it is still not sold?
