WvW S/F and Staff Ele Builds?

in Elementalist

Posted by: nearlight.3064

nearlight.3064

I have some scepter experience, and I personally view focus as more of a PvE weapon since the burst, control and movement provided by and offhand dagger is more useful against enemy players, while the projectile defences and invulns are a tad better for dungeons and whatnot. You can still screw people over with magnetic wave and obsidian flesh rezzes/stomps are really cool too! so it definetly can work in small group wvw play.

I hate staff so I never use it haha. Just D/F D/D and S/D mostly for me. Your builds seem really interesting since most people go to 20 instead of 15 in water, so I think the 0/15/20/15/20 one looks balanced and interesting, but I would suggest rock solid over geomancer’s freedom.

Boonduration for S/D?

in Elementalist

Posted by: nearlight.3064

nearlight.3064

I’m poor so I use ruby orbs as opposed to divinity runes, I mean with ascended armor coming out soon I don’t want to risk wasting that much gold on Divinity Runes depending on the logistics of ascended armor coming out (we don’t know if I’ll be able to salvage my exotic set to get the runes back or not, things like that).

I always hate how eles are so pressured to max out arcane and boon duration, and I’ll typically either run 0/30/10/20/10 (for pve especially) or 0/30/0/20/20 for my air builds. As long as you make sure to keep rock barrier up at all time, I feel like you’ll be able to live without the boon duration/evasive arcana… but I’m pretty inexperienced with havoc and roaming so don’t take my words that seriously.

Thanks! I actually have a lot of the JPs done, the ones that I’m having the most trouble with are Dark Reverie (2nd JP after morgans spiral), Conundrum Cubed, Scavenger’s Chasm, Fawcett’s Bounty and Revenge, and Scavenger’s Chasm. The Others I should be fine. I haven’t tried Troll’s End or the borderland JPs but I should be fine with the borderland ones.

I’ll add you guys and message you when you’re online and feel free to message me as well. Thanks!

Classes in PvE: Most and least boring.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

nearlight.3064

I’d say that warriors are the most boring and elementalists are the least boring.
Warriors don’t have a challenge, I find it to be such an utter joke that they have the highest base health and armor AND DPS ability in the game, but they’re all around kitten iness in pvp makes up for it.

I honestly love elementalist, I only wish I wasn’t pressured to go 30 into arcane and 20 in water in order to survive, since fresh air builds with 30 in air but only 10 in arcane put out great DPS, but struggle do to less water/earth swap uptime and boonduration. Lightning Hammer Builds often with 20 or 30 in fire are also very viable but somewhat fragile PvE specs that can put out crazy sustained damage.

Please help picking a second class

nearlight.3064

Hmm interesting. I changed my main to ele because it was more interesting and fun for me to play it and I honestly think that it can put out a great amount of DPS while still having enough healing/toughness to take hits. And I will admit eles are difficult to play but thats part of the beauty of playing them, and its fine if you dont think you can handle them.

Warriors from what I hear are considered the most boring class in the game for most people because its so easy to do a ton of damage. With axes you can just press 1, and with GS press 2, and that will get you through almost all PvE content. That being said the zerker warriors I PUG with dont really dodge or avoid damage so they really can die very easily. I’m not really sure about build diversity but for PvE I feel like most run similar builds.

WvW I know their natural tankiness makes them good for commanding and zerging. For spvp and havoc they honestly do lack. Mostly because their most viable build seems to be cooldown limited bursty stunlock builds that good players with stunbreaks can counter, and warriors tend to also end up as free kills for condition damage necros/engis and rangers. Without stunlock, your burst will be useless as unlike dungeon bosses players will actually move away from your 100blades.

I’m not sure about bunker viability, they don’t have the healing and boons for a guardian so anything they could do as a bunker would be outclassed, but they can outDPS guardians.

The last question, who knows? One versus One many factors come into account, but guardians will have enough invuln and healing to nullify a lot of the warriors burst, so I’d predict the guardian to win.

I’d also look into thief (no build diversity but big numbers and needs stealth in order to do anything) or ranger. My one ranger friend has a lot of DPS with sword/warhorn and shortbow with valk/zerker gear, but hes also really good so thats proably why.

When you say 2.4K toughness do you mean armor? I don’t know full PVT stat numbers, but toughness does get diminishing returns in armor if you get too much of it.

While the might-building options offered by fire seem alluring, I feel like pyromancer’s puissance is kinda bad because when you leave fire the might stacks fade, which can be hard to rebuild if you have to go back into water/earth for defense. I think that you’d be better off putting 10 in Earth for Stone Splinters, and then either putting more points in air for extra crit DPS options, or 20 in water for condition removal and extra healing/Vital Striking.

To be honest fire right now seems most worth it in a might/fury-stacking conjured weapon DPS build, which is immensely powerful yet susceptible to interrupts.

Conditionele

in Elementalist

Posted by: nearlight.3064

nearlight.3064

Is this going to happen any time?
I mean there is a meta out there and we are the only class left out.

First of all, guardians are even more left out of this meta than we are as they only get burning. Meanwhile necros and engineers are the kings of conditons, other classes can only use viable condition WvW (not PvE) specs that really heavily on stealth and lack the ability to create as much condition pressure as a necro or engi (I’m talking about thieves and mesmers). Meanwhile Ranger is ok at conditions with a sortbow, and warriors can kinda do it, but the stunlock builds are more of a guarantee it seems. So don’t worry that ele isnt a condition god, just be happy we have the ability to DPS and inflict extra conditions at the same time, so I’d suggest speccing more into a sustainable or bursty power build.

PVT or Cavalier Ascended Back

in Elementalist

Posted by: nearlight.3064

nearlight.3064

I’m finally rich enough to buy the 250 Vicious Fangs or Armored scales needed for an ascended backpiece, but I’m unsure which would be optimal to get. Cavalier seems to be a better choice, but the patch has made it so the PVT back mats would save me about twenty gold if I act now.

http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/elementalist/?1.0|b.1g.h1h.8.1g.h4|0.0.0.0.0.0|1c.a7.1c.a7.1c.a7.1c.a7.1c.a7.1c.a7|2s.0.2s.0.2v.0.211.0.311.0.2u.0|0.u000.0.k00.k00|0.0|0.0.0.0.0|e

This is the build I usually use for WvW S/D and changing the backpiece to cavalier results in slightly more attack power and damage reduction, but slightly less effective HP.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Viable Cond Ele, WvW build?

in Elementalist

Posted by: nearlight.3064

nearlight.3064

After testing it out I’d say its only effective if you have great allies and you sort of snipe from a safe position, since the lack of sustain is very hard to deal with, but using a focus offhand helps with that a lot. I swapped air signet for fire, since that burn caused 8.5K DPS. Still I felt like it was relatively weak simply becuase its so hard to put condition pressure on the enemy. We only have access to bleeding and burning, and limited access to chill/cripple/weakness, whereas necromancers can apply bleed, poison, chill, weakness, fear, and torment (and possibly burning) in a matter of seconds. Engineers can stack bleeds like crazy in a grenade set up, and also have access to bleed, poison, confusion, and burn on a P/P set up with might from HGH. Elementalists simply aren’t built to apply all of their pressure through conditions. In fact I’d say that guardian is the only class worse than elementalists at condition DPS builds.

However the Bunker build I tried was a bit more promising. I still had pitiful condition application-pressure, but I had a lot more pressure simply through sustain and regen/protect/stability uptime. Which was very nice in group fights, but alone or outnumbered I wasn’t really able to kill anything, just keep them occupied.

Overall I’d say its best to respect conditions as supplemental effects that are nice for an ele to have in addition to its main damage attacks, burst and sustain, but its hard to be proficient in burst or condition without giving up attrition in the form of sustain.

What are the viable PvE builds?

in Elementalist

Posted by: nearlight.3064

nearlight.3064

Well the OP asked about condition and support builds too besides raw damage Iread glass). The highest possible DPS on ele is with a lighting hammer S/D might/fury stacking rotation, with 30 points in fire, and II reccomend the other 40 points in arc/water or 10 in earth so you’re not dead on the floor all the time. Plus the 20% damage on enemies with vuln while is water is a very good trait as you can sit in water on LH and as long as a teammate applies vuln, you’ll deal great DPS.

As for condition or support, a condi build is pretty awful for PvE, and slighly viable but completely outclassed by almost every other profession other than guardians for pvp/wvw. Instead value the fact that conditions are supplemental parts of the burst/sustained damage skills you’ll use in fire and earth to help pressure a foe, rather than actual great damage dealers. As far as support goes, D/D aura/boon share with rock solid/zephyr’s boon, is the best I can reccommend for organized groups in WvW, but gimmicky at best and only viable when in a synergistic and organized group.

Viable Cond Ele, WvW build?

in Elementalist

Posted by: nearlight.3064

nearlight.3064

My advice is mostly traitwise. I’d only go 10 into fire for burning on crit You have 23% crit chance, you may as well use it to proc burns. Keep 30 in Earth, but you really should pick up diamond skin and ditch stone splinters for rock solid, the stability can really help you, and its one of the best earth traits. Take the 20 you hopefully removed from earth and put 10 in water and arcane. Make sure you get cleansing wave, and either regen/vigor on cantrip use (if you use cleansing flame or mist form, which in pvp you probably should) and the boon on attune change from arcane.

Condition DPS is about attrition and surviving. An ele need some points in water and arcane in order to outheal and outlast, and while your conditions wont last as long, being able to survive will be much better.

Also idk what sigils you use, but I’d consider sigil of doom, for the poison procs, since eles switch a lot, and the poison would really buff your DPS and help wear opponents down. As for the other sigil, generosity, corruption, or earth would be nice.

Also cleansing fire would fit this build well if you can slot it in. And I’d use glyph of elementals for extra DPS/boons/heals on the side since firey GS wont really help you much even if it can stack long burns.

Advice for flipping?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: nearlight.3064

nearlight.3064

Most of the risk with flipping is time. Sometimes you may invest a lot in a market, and have to wait longer than you’d like for it to sell, which is natural but not a huge worry, becasue as long as a major supply shock doesn’t occur, and that you don’t sell higher than the market ever goes, your items wills sell eventually.

I don’t really undercut because I mostly flip items in bulk for a profit of 3-6 copper for each item, and in quantities anywhere from 1000 to 5000, getting riskier but more rewarding the more you buy/sell. I’d recomend things useful in crafting, and defineitly use market data graphs and a calculator (for the 15% sink) to make sure your buy and sell prices fit in with the accordance of the natural ebb and flow of that market, so that your orders and listings will go through within a reasonable time frame.

The Minstrel

in Black Lion Trading Co

You can make The Minstrel for 600-700 gold because its precursor is cheap and and I’m pretty sure it doesn’t need any expensive lodestones for its gifts (not sure though).

According to http://www.guildwarstrade.com/item/30688-the-minstrel

The sell price is about 1200 gold (twice as much as to actually craft it), while the buy price varies but at least one person WAS willing to buy it for 900 recently. Now the highest buy price is 120, which probably won’t result in a sale. If you really want to make profit off of this legendary, I’d suggest listing it for 900-1000 gold, for a 300-400 gold profit, but I think there are easier ways to make that kind of money without using up so much karma/skill points/gifts of exploration (read: gameplay time)

Whats wrong with tactically retreating or moving into a fight? Mobility is a big part of the game.

Nothings wrong with having mobility, We just no longer have the ability to essentially spam RtL, because a skill with such escape potential on such a low cooldown really was just overpowered. I mean do thief/Mesmer shadowsteps/teleports and invisabilities have cooldowns that low? No they don’t usually, its 25 to 30 seconds for an ability that dosen’t move them as far away as RtL can. I’d say we’re balanced and should accept this and be glad that the CD is 20 seconds when you use it as a DPS-gap closer move.

I don’t really think its a huge issue, as even with the 40 second CD, we can still escape and reset fights, its just not as powerful as it once was. Anet says that they plan to release new skills and traits sometime before 2013, so who knows what we could really end up seeing for elementalist.

As far as the nerf to bountiful power, I don’t really mind it because its coercing us to spec more in air (or earth 10-stone splinters) to get straits that really improve our sustained and burst DPS.

I recently bought a gilded infusion as I didn’t expect the dungeon system changes to come so soon. I actually do like the changes as that will make doing a more diverse run of different dungeons and paths, which will be more fun than endless CoF. So I shall do CoF for the next week, in part to finish my zerker set and in part to make money. Some people have stated that they think Orrian Champions will be the new way to get what you need in regards to gold/T6/Lodestones. Because many of these champs will be event related, karma will be rewarded too, so I’m considering whether it would be better to replace my gilded infusion slot with karmic, do nothing, or just chuck out 30 laurels+250 badges for another distinguished circle of logic with a karmic infusion, so I could switch them out depending on the situation.

What do you guys think?

Yeah, from what I’ve noticed its best doing smaller transactions and staggering the prices lower to reduce the allure of new competitors in that market.

My only issue with that is now I don’t even think its profitable to buy say a stack of 250 of an item and resell it, because of of competition.

Even now, a market I thought would be extremely profitable just got bust. for a profit of 86 copper or so, I staggered my prices 1 by 1 lower from 1.90 silver to 1.80 silver. Then someone decides to sell 137 of the item for 95 copper. I give up. Back to CoF.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to do this process more effectively. I can usually place buy orders and get quick results, but sell orders take a lot longer because I get undercut, and I’d lose out on more money if I lowered my prices further. Does anyone have any advice on how to actually get your items sold other than by undercutting? I feel like maybe by being patient my items will end up getting sold even if others do undercut my prices. Any advice or tales of your experience would be very helpful, thank you.

What the point of binging my beloved elementalist or necromancer to dungeons when I a warrior can just press 2 to do 28K damage in seconds. Sure with a lightning hammer set up with ele and a mightstack rotation you can get almost half of that, but still, I don’t really like melee professions and I hate how the game in PvE is balanced and favored around them.

It went fast because I bought all the t6 mats and it only took me like 5 days to get the rest for this legendary, still made like 600g of profit haha. After I got meteorologicus I just force myself to get better with s/d in pvp :P

Hahaha what advice would you have to someone going for that weapon relatively from scratch? All I have right now is the 77 mystic clovers (256 tries so I have a decent amount of T6 mats) and the gift of mastery should be done by the time I’d get everything else, still waiting on a color switch for WvW completion, and getting a character with 200 skill points, but I’m not worried. The thing that concerned me the most was the charged lodestones, so I think I’ll probably start running CoE all the time pretty soon.

Is elementalist healing worth it?

If you really want to heal an ele with staff would give you water fields that others could blast finish, for extra AoE heals. I prefer using a scepter/dagger set up with the persisting flames trait to stack 15-18 stacks of might AoE and over a minute of fury AoE, and then switching to lightning hammer to DPS things and its autoattack is a blast finisher so you can get even more support through that.

Dagger/Focus and Dagger/Dagger auramancer and fresh air builds are both also extremely nice for support and DPS too!

Legendary Weapon Progress Group

in Players Helping Players

Yesterday when I was leveling my ele by doing AC runs, one PUG ranger who joined our group was sayin that he was only 100ish tokens away from getting Bolt. Naturally with 100 charged lodestones required, that is a pricey weapon. I asked him how much time he spent getting the money required for all the materials and he simply said it took him 2 weeks. Only 2 weeks, about 4 hours each day. I believe he said he did CoF p1 20 times each day, CoE path 1/2/3 and then AC 1/2/3, every day. A lot of players want legendaries, so I thought that maybe I could progress towards mine if I did something similar to him.

For this post I want to find a regular group to replicate his farming schedule for two weeks to see how far it gets us. I’d want meteorlogicus for my ele before the new legendaries come out (and then I’d go for incinerator or whatever the new legendary dagger is after that) and with the start of a T6 price rise, I feel like it would be a good idea to get going on this soon. We would do the 20 CoF p1 runs, the CoE runs (for the charged core/lodestones and whatnot) and the last dungeon can either be AC or any depending on what tokens we’d need for our individual weapon specific gifts.

I’m looking for players of any class, with a decent skill level that would be willing to commit to such a farming schedule. I’d play either my ele or mesmer depending on the situation, both should have ample DPS, ele just has more heals/protection while mesmer has TW, and portal really.

I’d want to start around August 3rd or 4th, so if you’re interested comment on this post telling what professions you have that are up to snuff, what legendary you’re going for and what your progress is on it. I’ll talk to you ingame as soon as I can and we can talk to get things set up.

For example, I have a Mesmer, Necromancer, and soon to be 80 elementalist. I’m going for meteorlogicus for ele, and so far I have my 77 mystic clovers, and most of the gift of mastery (just need to be green again in wvw for completion).

Elementalist, engineer, or Mesmer

in Players Helping Players

I have both a mesmer and elementalist I honestly prefer ele to mesmer. With mesmer, sure everyone loves you but I find it boring. All I do is time warp dance around making clones, shatter-rinse-repeat. And use feedback as a reflect.

Ele on the other hand is a much more fun and active playstyle especially for dagger/focus dagger/dagger and scepter/dagger builds. Who needs feedback when you can get swirling winds for you group? Same CD but a much stronget projectile denial skill imo. Scepter dagger is also very great for might stacking, since you can have anywhere from 4to6 blast finishers on your ring of fire, and then you can swap to lightning hammer and have one of the best DPSes for a light armor class. Fresh Air builds using dagger (or scepter even) are also great for DPS as you can constantly get support skills from the other attunements and go right back into air to burst enemies, usually with dagger lightning whip cleave (scepter arc lightings less DPS unless you take advantage of the piercing). Hope this helped, even though I prefer the ele I’d recommend leveling both, since you never really know what your play style is until you explore all the options.

Karmic or Guilded Infusion?

Yeah Gilded does sound great, but I’m just afraid that with the ANET removing gold from bosses and changing that system to something else to get money, that the gilded infusion would then become useless.

Also with with karmic I could get 15% more Orrian Jewlry Boxes, and it’ll be slightly quicker to get obsidian shards (need 241 more but thats easy)

TA F/U spiders change?

A few days ago we did this path and we came to the boss, our 3 mesmers and 1 guardian were all dead on the floor while a Warrior soloed the tree by running around it with a rifle. It took half an hour, but he got it, and barely took any damage.

Karmic or Guilded Infusion?

I’m leveling a new alt that will probably be my new main and since I don’t do high level fractals (just the 10 daily for rings for this char) I probably won’t need a ton of AR. So I was thinking about getting a utility amulet and infusing it with either a gold or karma infusion. I was thinking gold at first since I run explorable dungeons a lot, however Anet is removing the gold drop from bosses to change that system. What do you guys think would be more helpful and worth it in the long run? Karmic or Gilded?
