Use the Bloodlust and Battle for tons of Power and damage.

oh and the energy sigil does work for elementalists… unless it bugged. last time i used it was in sPVP around a month or two ago before i took a break and started playing again in the last two weeks.
Is Ascended gear better than Exotic gear for WvWvW?
No.
Why is having roughly 8% higher stats not better?
with the information we have now, infusions have no effect on stats and are only useful for the fractals, thus, making exotics better because you can use runes and sigils in exotics, whereas ascended armor only has infusions.
so, right now, exotics are still better for everything, but the fractals.
From Linsey:
‘The stats and functionality normally added to gear through upgrade components are actually built into Ascended items. ’ So, according to her, you’ll still be getting the shout healing in Ascended, and it’ll heal for more.
no, you’re not. as i understand it (via the screenshot provided), the upgrade component is being referred to as jewels/crests, not runes.
Also another observation in the whole Ascended gear: It doesn’t matter how much an increase it is. Hyper competitive PvP player like myself will grind for it anyway since it can be use in WvW.
then you’ll get laughed at because with the information we have available (now), ascended armor (when its available) can’t be slotted with runes nor can ascended weapons be slotted with sigils. we don’t know what the infusions will do, but, likely, it’ll simply add a resistance to the new agony mechanic, thus, making ascended gear obsolete for anywhere, but, the new dungeon with the information we have available currently.
note: this is going off what information we currently have. even then, you don’t need agony resistance to do the fractal, only to continue doing the dungeon the further down you go. plus, we don’t even know how its applied. it could be dodge-able/reflectable, etc..

Arenanet seem to think so, otherwise they wouldn’t have put it there.
you do realize, with the currently released information, the extra stats on ascended armor and weapons is going to be used to make up for the lack of runes and sigils, correct? since, as far as we know, ascended items can ONLY be socketed with the new infusions.
if it stays like this, then, there’s no reason to get ascended armor/weapons if you don’t want to do the new dungeon. even then, you can still do most of the dungeon (via blogpost) without any resistance to whatever they’re adding.
so far, i don’t really care about them adding ascended gear. i’ll have to see what the infusions do before i decide if i hate it or don’t care.
there’s still no gear grind for anything, but this one, specific dungeon.
ascended items (that are going to be released soonTM) can’t be socketed with sigils/runes. therefore, outside this one dungeon, there’s no reason to have ascended armor. the slight boost in stats isn’t worth (for me) losing the abilities that runes and sigils give.
i’ll have to see how they make infusions work before i can decide.
see topic.
my (planned) gear is going to be:
PVT armor/weapons
cleric accessories (rings/back/earrings/necklace)
buff duration percentage runes (superior water/monk and major water runes)
i’m going to have either a 0/10/0/30/30 or 0/0/10/30/30 spec. D/D, ofc.
this leaves me with more or less no +condition damage, which, is why i’m kind of leaning toward that. i have plenty of power, but, no +condition damage.
any opinions?
Actually you’re going to have to use it.
Here’s a quote from the blog post.
Players who wish to delve deep into the Fractals will find that Agony makes progress increasingly difficult, until they reach the point where some defense against this condition is a must.
i actually miss said that and meant to say for anything, BUT the fractal. i can’t apparently proof-read my own posts.
@steelwolf: they already said they’re going to implement more ascended armor options soonTM, so, they’ll eventually be available. even then, unless the infusion bonuses are somehow equivalent to rune/sigil bonuses (unlikely), you still won’t be using ascended armor for anything, but, this one particular dungeon.
Actually, by reading that quote in OP, it sounds like this new gear will be exclusively for this new dungeon. May be wishful thinking though.
And quit raging people. Just wait for the 15th, and speak up then if bad things come to be.
it is.
no one has realized this yet, apparently:
ascended gear can’t be slotted with runes or sigils.
are you going to give up rune benefits for an extra couple stat points? i won’t.
and something that EVERYONE forgets:
ascended armor can’t be slotted with runes or sigils – only infusions.
you won’t be using ascended armor (EDIT: for anything, BUT) the fractal. i know i won’t. i’m not going to lose my rune and sigil bonuses for a few more stat points, outside of the fractal.

two lines of text and you didn’t explain why you thought elementalists were useless.
i’ll have to respectfully disagree. while i do agree we need tweaks/fixes, calling elementalists worthless is flat out wrong.
Ah I see. It comes up Rampager’s in the video, even though it’s Cleric. That’s what was confusing me. Thanks.
yeah. it copies the prefix from the armor you’re transmuting too, rather then the proper prefix for the transmuted stats.
@daphoenix: i’m still curious over your decision about using the corruption stacking sigil rather then the power one. any reason for that? your build seems like it’d get more benefit from the +power or the +healing sigil, rather then the +condition damage.
or, do you use corruption to offset the fact that you have literally no +condition damage in your build? you said you use PVT armor/weapons and cleric accessories. as far as i know, that’s 0 condition damage.
P.S. your new video is awesome.

Do you guys know which dungeon, AC or HoTW is faster and easier to earn tokens for PVT armor?
if you want his setup, you need to do AC explorable regardless because that’s the only place you can get monk runes from.
Conclusion about all these posts:
Stop asking for nerfs, ask for faster bugfixes instead :P
i don’t think bunker builds should be nerfed.
i think the other options should be buffed/tweaked to make them more enticing options so people have a decision: glass cannone DPS/burst, or, survivable, tanky bunker? or, a sustainable DPS build.
i think i’m the only one that actually likes bunker builds?
i always build my characters tanky in any online game i play. WoW? i preferred defense-oriented builds on any class. GW2? i always spec into the vitality/healing line, 30 points, on every single character. oft, i also spec at least 20-30 points into the toughness line.
@TerryLong: when you transmute armor, it copies the name and prefix of the armor you’re using the look of.
so, he transmuted a level 80 exotic armor with a piece of winged armor and thus, he gets: “<prefix> winged <part> of <rune>”.
GW1 is a solid game and it has excellent lore to fall back on.
however, the problem with GW1 is that its an old game. it’s seven plus years old and it shows. after playing GW2, i found it hard to stomach GW1. how you move and the controls are very awkward and clunky. it’s no where near as smooth as GW2 is. GW2 (to me) feels slick and responsive. GW2 is very floaty and, well… not.
i’d say try out the free trial and see if you like it. if you do? buy it. if not? no loss.
This is EXACTLY what I was waiting for! Thanks so much phoenix! One question for you if you have time: I am a faithful user of Ether Renewal. My build was very similar to yours in that I was 0/10/10/20/30 and I was using Obsedian Flesh especially when I was using a staff so the channelling would increase toughness while healing. I also find it to be an AMAZING condition removal. And with only 15 sec CD it seemed the most viable. So my question is why use the Glyph and not Ether Renewal?
glyph is instant and much faster to cast.
plus, each time he auto-attacks, he gets health back. D/D attacks a lot.
@daphoenix: have you tested out a build with 30 points in earth for the trait “Written in Stone” since you appeared to move toward signet of restoration rather then glyph of EH?
EDIT: i’m also curious about the switch in healing abilities and the corruption sigil over power.

the elementalist is tied with the guardian and thief for the lowest base health, but, that doesn’t mean survivability; if you build for survivability, you’ll get it. if you don’t? you’ll die.
the professions are balanced differently too. necromancers have almost no burst damage and are largely condition based (from what i can remember and faced). that’s why they have 18k health.
hehe don’t mind them – it’s always the same 4, 5 people coming into elementalist threads claiming they are made of pure awesome and elementalist is completely fine, or even overpowered.
no one in this thread said that elementalists don’t need work; we were just pointing out at the OP might not be near as good at elementalists as he is thieves and warriors. considering how much more effort is needed to play an elementalist then either of those two classes, this is entirely feasible. i didn’t say anywhere in my original post that elementalists don’t need tweaks or outright buffs. i just said they’re more complicated/harder to play then pretty much every other class for the same output.
@ pandemos: yes, i realize that now, but the edit function is dead and i can’t well remember vanilla WoW that well since it was back in ‘05-’06 that i played that and honestly, vanilla WoW was dull. i wouldn’t say “boring”, but…
servers aren’t dead.
the reason you don’t see a lot of people is because of a combination of how big the zones are, plus the down-leveling system and how many zones there are for each level range.
there’s at least 2-3 zones for each level range. hell, there’s five newbie areas that are 1-15. the other problem is that all stories connect at level 50 and everyone ends up concentrated in the zhaitian-infested areas, thus, that means that other zones are going to be dead.
i see plenty of people in the newbie and higher level zones, but, the mid-level ones aren’t that populated because there’s just too many zones you can level in, then, the three orders all branch off from around 20-50, which, is mid-level where people are reporting that the servers are “dead”. then, there’s sPVP, WvW, etc.
WoW (during vanilla, TBC and WotlK) suffered from the same problem: certain zones were popular whereas others were ghost towns. azshara during the original release? there was no one. it happens in all MMOs.
tl;dr: servers aren’t dead; population is just spread out.
BOAM!
and thanks for the video, yo. i actually never noticed that trait in earth because i usually never spec that deep, huh. i might have to rethink my build.
elementalists don’t suck compared to other classes.
what you perceive as “suck” is elementalists being inherently more complicated then any other class in the game. the engineer is the only one that matches the elementalist in this place, but even then, engineers don’t have cool downs on kit swapping, thus, they can freely swap and fit in any role. melee? bomb/tool kit. long-range? grenade/elixir gun. during BWE1, they had a ten second swap on kits with a trait to reduce the cool down to around 2-3 seconds, iirc, but they reworked the trait and removed the cool down.
the problem is the fact that elementalists need ten times the effort put into the class compared to warriors and thieves (as your original post said) to get the same effect.
@ LeoG: they are. with just the solider amulet/jewel, you can get 20,245 health with no runes and 30 points in water.
however, that’s a little… excessive. tbh, i’d probably use the celestial amulet. it’ll give you 17,255 health with amulet/jewel and 30 points in water.
my favorite amulets are soldier (PVT), shaman (THC) or celestial (all).
I don’t even want to think of the nightmare an Engineer would be if he could have all the specific grandmaster traits he actually wanted for only 10 points spent.
this is how it originally was during the closed beta events and the open BWEs. it was glorious, but, the problem is, most of the builds coming out during BWE1 were builds that did things like 10/10/20/20/10 or something and simply cherry-picked all the best traits. i did it to awesome effect on my mesmer and guardian during the BWE then they changed it (for the best) and there was an uproar of QQ.
anyone that understood how games worked realize that change was for the best. it made you choose: do you want the trait or the extra stats?
@ OP: the trait system, as is, is fine. the issue is the traits that we have aren’t up to snuff. there are a lot of useful ones, but then, there’s just as many… not.
Knight amulet+30 in water is about 22k hp if i’m not wrong, but you lose nearly all toughness.
what he said.
try and get the amulet with toughness and vitality, or, get the amulet with toughness/healing power/condition damage and slot the PVT gem.
@ masshypnosis: the regeneration on dolyak is like 30 health. that’s… really bad.
@daphoenix: that’s an… interesting combo. why not get a 6 set bonus (or a 4 and 2)? is the extra boon duration really that good? ’cuz, that combo gives you an extra 45% boon duration (iirc).
(edited by nvmvoidrays.2158)
any amulet with vitality on it.
that’ll get you anywhere from 16-19k health with 30 points in water.
Regardless if this is a PvP zone or not, it does border on griefing since it is in a PvE puzzle.
it’s a PVP puzzle.
there’s traps that other players can pull (even your own server).
the chest gives a piece of gear or two, but, it also gives a good number of badges of honor (iirc, around a dozen or more) and several blueprints for siege weapons. that sounds like a PVP puzzle to me.
if people sheep the forums, then, most wanted would be guardian and least played would be elementalist or necromancer.
Hi! Thx for your vids and descriptions! I really love them and I appreciate your support.
My question: I have reached the 260.000 karma and I would like to buy one of the exotic “cathedral” sets (42k/piece). Which one would you suggest for pvp on WvW, which is the closest to your build? I dont want to change the original added runes either. This set would be my “starter” wvw set until I craft/buy a similar set to yours.
Sorry for my bad english. Thx ;-)
definitely get the PVT (power/vitality/toughness) set. however, i’m pretty sure that you need to buy separate pieces to fill all six slots with PVT gear.
i see the appeal of using MF gear, but, i just use the “x bar” food when out in the world and stated food for dungeons. i do notice a difference in my drops with just using the bars.
plus, i’m too lazy/cheap to get a magic find set, l0l.
looks.
and, i like to make my melee characters male and my support/ranged female. idk why. sometimes, i’ll differentiate, but, that’s usually how like to play them.
curious, but, what type of gear did you use? PVT + carrion and cleric?
@ BrazenNL: he means use the chill to protect the bleed from getting cleansed off.
same team, different game.
so, the only thing in the ENTIRE game you like is hearts? really?
this isn’t the game for you then.
@blackmore: if you want to watch the videos, copy the part after the /.
so, if you wanted to watch “http://youtu.be/DZCKtadyJQc”, copy “DZCKtadyJQc” and type in “watch?v=R63BSVIHeDQ”, without quotes, ofc, to the usual youtube address. it should read http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R63BSVIHeDQ .
they aren’t saying the achievements are too hard. none of them are.
they’re just whining that they can’t sit in WvW and complete all four monthly requirements.
i think there’s a good variety in the armor sets and people have different values on aesthetics.
i disliked most of the 15k armor for the classes i played most in GW1 (monk, ritualist, paragon). whereas, so far, i’ve found several armor sets that i’ve liked in GW2.
it just entirely depends on your preference in aesthetics, tbh. the armor sets in GW2 are well designed.
i did CM story last night completely fine.
what delryn said.
iirc, there were two different levels (based on rumors and other forum posts i saw): one that changes hair style/color for 200 gems and another one that’s a full remodel for 350 gems. so, a little less then 2g for hair color/style change and a little more then 3g for a full remodel, assuming those prices are actually accurate.

AMD Radeon HD 6570M
4 GB of RAM
on a mix of medium/high settings, anywhere from 30-60fps.
btw who cares about forums when they rather post critical info on twitter or facebook… really ya’ll know this game is dead in 3 months
because a small percentage of people actually read the forum. i bet not even 1% of the people that bought the game have visited the forums once. whereas a large, large majority of people (sadly) visit twitter and facebook much, much more frequently then the forums.
no.
i’m pretty sure they said no to a race change because of personal story.
even if i wasn’t a fan of dungeons, i’d rather do 5 dungeons then 75 events or salvaging… 350 item?
