I started playing after the game became available again to buy online. I made a Charr Necromancer because I love monsters and I love necromancers, and I just went out to explore the world. I picked up some harvesting items, and just walked from place to place, stopping to help people in need (hearts) and discover interesting places. I finished the first Charr zone yesterday, like completely finished all the exploration things, and realized I was level 22. I knew I’d been leveling up, but I never kept track of how much. I realized a level and a half late that I had my last utility slot open, about six unspent trait points.
My only complaint is waypoints; they break immersion. But then I just avoid using them and the people who want fast travel have it and I don’t have to suffer for it, because there are harvesting nodes and adventures to be had as I take the longer path.
Now to figure out what alt I want to play.. I’ve restarted close to a dozen times and never gotten past level 5.
I got to a part in the story where I met three new Charr, an engineer, a military guy, and a scholar. The scholar is female, and her voice sounds like my favorite police captain from The Glades. I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t seen the scenes, but is that her? Sure sounds like it.
I was already considering getting a Mac for school, and now that there’s a Mac client that makes it more tempting. Anyone running it yet and have any performance feedback and specs for theirs?
You can type it all out and spend all this time thinking about the people who complain about the game, but people post this exact thread in every MMO game that comes out, and it never does any good. Complaining about the complainers doesn´t matter because they´re not looking to be told they´re wrong.
Well this is why I wanted to figure out what happened. Today I logged in and I’m back to my 25, maxing at most at 30. Yesterday was some freak accident out of the blue, but if I could figure out a cause, maybe I could always have 60 fps..
For now the mystery remains unsolved, I guess
Since I bought the game and turned down all the graphics options, I’ve been getting around 25 frames per second while out in the wilderness, and less in the Black Citadel (i play Charr). That number drops to around 15-20 during combat, depending on how many spells I’m flinging. PvP has a similar drop.
Today I logged in and my FPS is at 60 while walking around. I noticed things were moving smoother, and had to check to make sure I wasn’t seeing things. In combat it dropped to 50, using all my ground spells and locust swarm.
I changed the render setting from Subsample to Native, and the idle/walking FPS dropped to 50, but still considerably higher than the walking 15 I got with Subsample on Native before.
I asked on /map and someone else said the same thing happened to him. I checked the announcements forum but I don’t see news of a patch. Is this some weird freak accident that will be gone the next time I log in, or did something happen overnight that caused this?
I run on an old machine – 5 year old Asus M50VM laptop. It’s got 4gb ram, a GeForce 9600M GS (1gb video memory), and a dual core 2.36ish Intel processor.
What is the highest number of minions you can have at once?
in Necromancer

Blood fiend in heal spot, two bone minions, two other utility pets, one flesh golem in elite. For a total of six? Is that right?
I searched google and came up with some results that suggested it impossible to summon three bone minions with a trait, but I don’t see it in the list of traits. Is that beta info, or am I blind?
My plan is to go through the minion tree, choosing the minion traits along the way. Even if not super effective, I hope it’ll be awesome fun.
