How long before a new account can transfer?

A friend of a friend started playing a few days ago but on his first login the server we’re on was full. He created a character on another server in the hopes of transferring but now he is saying he can’t.

Is there a waiting period before new accounts can transfer servers, or should it be available immediately?

I know this was a few months ago but it was the top result when I googled “Projected Profit”

I only today realized that Projected Profit does NOT include the listing fee. I have been wondering why my profits didn’t seem to be adding up, and this explains it.

Could I do the math myself? Of course, but this seems like a very simple and logical change to make.

Leveling mesmer.. weapons, utility, traits?

ostracize.8316

Well hello!

I made my first Mesmer the other day and I’m trying to understand how to level it. I was using a greatsword at first because greatsword + mage, you know othe deal. But I’m finding that GS 1 is pretty weak when I’m fighting NPCs right in the face, which is pretty much always.

What weapon(s) are ideal for leveling? Sceptre seems heavy on confusion, which seems more like a PvP thing. Staff is cool but kind of weird.. swords, maybe?

Which trait lines work well for leveling? I built a confusion spec for PvP and that was kind of fun, but I’m not sure where to go while leveling to 80.

Thanks!

I had 5 gold when the chests were announced. I used that 5 gold to buy gems, which I used to buy two chests. I got a total of 21 passion flowers, some karka shells, and two heavy aquifiers which sold for 21s each.

I knew it was a “game of roulette” by the fact that the loot drops were a random, and low, chance. I took the risk with gold that I was willing to spend, even though it put me to zero gold.

Don’t put in anything you’re not willing to lose. If you’re not willing to lose real money, don’t spend it. If I didn’t have a wife, and a son, and school, I’d probably have dropped $20 on the Halloween chests and another $20 on consortium chests, because it still would have been cheaper than a night at the casino, and I would have had something to show for it.

The golden rule of the casino is the same as it is with gems for lotto chests: don’t spend more than you’re willing to lose. Don’t expect a big win, expect to lose your money, it becomes much more fun then. If that means you only buy one chest, then only buy one.

Rares, Exotics, what to do with them?

in Players Helping Players

ostracize.8316

Hello!

I’m a relatively fresh 80. I’ve been 80 for a few weeks now, but I’ve spent most of the time since then in PvP and not really on my PvE gear. I’ve got four pieces of Melandru gear from Cursed Shore (exotic karma gear) and my other two armor pieces are whatever rares I found on the AH with healing power. My staff is a rare healing power one, and my spec is well support with condition damage as a secondary stat to get a bit more damage out of my marks.

I’ve been running fractals and getting buttloads of blues and greens, a handful of rares, and an exotic. I read somewhere that the general rule was salvage whites, vendor blues, combine greens to try and get rares, salvage (Master or Black Lion) yellows that won’t sell above 25s, sell those that will.

But now there was a patch that I remember reading precursors are a potential drop by combining rares in the mystic forge, and the chance of them dropping increased when combining exotics. I got an exotic named glove today and it sells on the trading post for around 3g.

Would I be better off melting my rares in the forge now? What about exotics? Sell or melt?

I have no money. I never sit above 1g. I have 10 slot bags. If I started selling my yellow and orange loot I’d probably be able to get 20 slot bags relatively quickly, but now fractals have 20 slot bags which makes me think that I’d be better off chasing the precursor lottery. My hope is to win a precursor, sell it, get bags for my main and bank slots with whatever gold is left over.

Here’s the short form of what I’ve been doing, and I’m curious if you the experts can see room for improvement.

White: salvage (crude)
Blue: vendor
Green: melt 4 in mystic forge
Yellow: TP > 25s, salvage (master/BL) < 25s (I keep the ectos in case I need them later)
Orange: Unsure yet, I only have one

I guess the biggest question is what to do with my exotics, and if there is a price where selling becomes a better choice than mystic forge (like rares and ectos).

I'm disappointed with how the catapult worked

in The Lost Shores

Posted by: ostracize.8316

ostracize.8316

I understand that there was a need for something to reduce the amount of lag that happened yesterday, but this was really really stupid. I, like dozens of other people, sat at the catapult for 30 minutes watching nothing happen. Then, at 12:30, the event changed to say we could go to the new zone. I never even got to SEE the Lion’s Arch event because it never happened. Had I waited around, I would have missed out on the event in the new zone.

It’s probably one of those kitten if you do, kitten if you don’t situations. You can’t postpone the event because then people who have limited time are angry they are stuck waiting around. When you delay the event on overflow servers, the people waiting around get angry. If you stop making things one-time events, the people who aren’t there at the beginning suffer considerably smaller groups when they DO get on to play, and might not even be able to finish it anyway.

I don’t have a solution for you. I was incredibly disappointed that all the hype about the “one time event” for Halloween was a cutscene that most people didn’t even see properly. I was disappointed to learn that yesterday was plagued with lag and problems, even though I didn’t attend, and I was disappointed that even though I was standing in the right place in Lion’s Arch today at noon, I STILL missed the event because of the way it went down.

I’m going to be at work tomorrow for the final event, but I really hope you guys can get it right this time. I’d love to come home and read a forum full of positive comments rather than plagued by negatives.

PUGs vs Premades a problem from any angle

in PvP

Posted by: ostracize.8316

ostracize.8316

The system in place for hot join is fine for the most part. By randomizing teams (or whatever other variable it might contain) it enables people to play with their friends, but doesn’t make it 8 premade vs 8 pug fights, so it is generally enjoyable. You still seem to get those games where the other 7 people on your team have no idea what they’re doing, but that’s part of the lotto of hot join.

Tournament play, however, needs to be better. I don’t even queue free tournaments anymore because the best I can hope to do is fourth place, unless I’m extremely lucky and there are no premades in the tournament. But why, exactly, is this a problem in the first place? Why should ANet reconsider their “get a team or gtfo” stance with tournaments?

Since sPvP doesn’t provide any statistical upgrades, it should be a focus on fun. Hot join doesn’t offer anything like tournament brackets, and so for those who like the idea of fighting for the top spot in a tournament ladder, free tourneys are great. Currently, however, nearly every free tournament is won by premades or partial premades, with full pugs losing by the second round nearly every time.

You can safely assume there are three groups of people who are in free tournament games. First, the PUG player who is joining a tournament by himself, or maybe with one other friend. He’s probably looking to have some fun and maybe come out of this with a free tournament chest. Second, the premade team who wants to get some practice in before they try paid tournaments. Maybe they need to develop their builds, or it’s a new team trying to learn how to play alongside each other, but for whatever reason they’re not comfortable spending tickets/gems on paid tournaments yet. Third, the premades who are there to pubstomp, often while giggling on vent about how they’re dominating everyone (I’ve played alongside these guys; this is something some of them actually do). This third group is often considered the bottom feeder of the PvP community, and for some reason Arena Net has catered to them above all else.

Competitive arena teams do not want to fight pugs, and pugs do not want to fight premades. The only premades who want to fight pugs share a lot of characteristics with those who buy hundreds of bugged karma items and complain about how they had no idea it was an exploit.

There is no competitive reason to pit pugs against premades, and there is little to no fun in getting crushed 100-500 by a full premade and spending double the time for a fraction of the favor you would have earned from hot join. If pug vs premade is a design feature that is working as intended, I think you might need to have a closer look at the guy that made that decision, because every competitive game that has come out in past several years has seperated pugs and premades in some way or another. WoW, League of Legends, and Smite, to name a few.

In games that did not have any sort of pug vs premade filter, that’s been a really high priority target for the players when discussing things the game did wrong, or could improve on.

When I get around to joining a tournament team, I’m going to be stuck in between two places I don’t want to be. On one side I can play free tournaments and face pickups for 1 or 2 of the three matches, and get a good match in the final only (unless I’m lucky enough to get into a game without pug teams), or I can go into paid tournaments with no practice but face fierce competition. If paid tournaments were a possibility using a readily available currency then maybe that would be the better choice, but tournament tickets cost money or cost significant time investments. The fact that you give them out in free tournaments only further encourages the practice of pubstomping, because it’s a much easier way to farm tickets than facing real competition.

The entire system is pretty broken, to be honest, and I really hope it gets reviewed in the near future.

Hi,

I have a necromancer and he wants the dry bones set, which the wiki tells me is one rank above what I am now.

Wat is the best way to go about getting the set? Should I save up all my favor from rank 11 to 20 and buy a bunch of rank 20 gold boxes, hoping to get all six pieces? I’ve salvaged most of what I’ve looted, except the pieces I like, and never gotten an arcane sliver which I would need to craft the set.

I have two pieces of Devout gear in my collection. I thought I wanted that set until i saw dry bones. If I salvage it, are arcane slivers a chance or a certainty? Is there a better way to get items? Can I melt common PvP gear in the mystic forge to try and upgrade it, like I melt greens for yellows in lions arch?

There is always a chance the boss kills one or two of the party members who miss their dodge, leaving the last one or two guys kiting while they try to res. You can’t predict something like that, and in that case you running back WOULD have helped.

I would have kicked you immediately if I saw you lying on the floor refusing to res, because you’re not helping. At least if you waypoint and run back you’re trying, even if it ends up being pointless. Put the effort in, especially in a PUG.

Ok 1st if u played TA before u would realize that the last fights is soo easy to handle.just dodge an AOE which happen every 2mins.
2ns I didnt say I dont want to help.I just said its not worth it getting again. If they said repawn I would do it.I am not a reatrded guy who leave his team in bad situations.I am just a good person who think before he do.I thought about it ans saw its just not worth it.

Here is exactly your problem, which is precisely why you got kicked out. You say it’s easy, all you have to do is dodge – yet you died. If it’s that easy, why did you die?

You decided to punish your teammates, who did not die, by not even trying to walk back, and, by your description, telling them you weren’t walking back instead of trying to reason with them (Is it worth it for me to respawn? He’ll be dead before I get back…), then at least they have a chance to say “WP and come back, freeloader,” which is what I would say in that situation.

People aren’t idiots for disagreeing with you, because your opinion is not the only one that matters. The fact is at least two people wanted you out of the group. Even if this was the only thing you said or did in the party the whole way (and it often isn’t, but people “forget” their other indiscretions), you still did enough for two people to vote you out.

Take it as a learning experience and move on. Coming to the forums to berate everyone who disagrees with you (especially with the really poor quality of your typing) is a fool move.

Two buy orders, same price, newer one buys first?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: ostracize.8316

ostracize.8316

This has happened to me twice, on different days, and with different orders. I set an order for an item, and then a few hours later someone sets their order for the same price as me. Not a higher price, but exactly the same. I check items I’m buying, it shows 100. I check items being bought at that price, it shows 200. I know that I was the first one to list at that price because I checked the price before and after I set my buy orders.

Someone wants to match my buy price fine, but despite the fact that my orders were there first, the newer order gets filled before mine does. Why?

It should fill the older orders first before going to the newer orders. I verified that it was selling items to the newer order by selling one of my own items to the buy order to see if I got it back – I didn’t.

Since buy orders don’t have a fee it doesn’t take a lot of time to cancel and place my order again, although to pick up the money I have to be at a trading post. It seems silly that a competitor doesn’t have to increase his buy price in order to block me from buying, and if I fight back by just renewing my orders at the same price, I’m going to have to sit there for an unknown amount of time if he is doing the same thing. Going up in price is how you fight people in the trading post, but other bidders don’t actually have to increase their price to knock you out.

Why is offense better than defense? (Favor)

in PvP

Posted by: ostracize.8316

ostracize.8316

I have to admit it’s nice that you can’t just sit in the spawn and get favor. Forcing players to be active in a fight in order to get favor at all is a good way to dissuade people from cheating, but it punishes people who actually like to defend.

Why not simply increase the amount of defender bonus for kills while defending a control point? As it is now there’s little reason to go back and defend because you lose time to go back, for the same bonus you get from Skirmisher anyway. If the bonus favor for defending was higher, it would make defense of points more of a priority than it is now.

Realistically, I would even be happy with half of the favor that offensive people get. I like defending, and if I could be guaranteed 75-100 favor every game for defending (I do not mean being AFK, I mean actually killing attackers) even that would go some way to getting me happy about defense. Even on my bunker necro I can be offensive (following the zerg) and get more favor than defending.

Why is offense better than defense? (Favor)

in PvP

Posted by: ostracize.8316

ostracize.8316

In every objective-based game, whether it be Guild Wars, World of Warcraft, or Unreal Tournament, the “zerg” mentality has proven time and time again to be a failed strategy. When the entire team roams from point to point, leaving no defense, a well organized team will always win simply by avoiding the zerg and capping behind them, killing the one straggler who may have been left behind.

In Guild Wars 2, as anyone who has played sPvP knows, zerg is the only way to earn high amounts of favor and glory (and, to a lesser extent, high damage builds). I just played a match on my new support Warrior and got 30 favor at the end. I stood at the Dock and defended for the entire game, ensuring that it never went white/blue and stayed red the entire time. Meanwhile, the rest of my team was off fighting at beach and many of them got between 70 and 200 favor. I defended the point from two thieves, an elementalist, and a ranger, and a few of my teammates came to help when they resurrected.

We won the match, and I feel that I contributed to the fight by keeping my point secure the entire time. I called out when I needed help, and help typically came. Overall, the teamwork was actually quite good.

But, I will never stand on a point and defend again. I would have gotten more glory if we’d lost, and I had played offensively. You get glory for shooting a massive trebuchet blindly into a clock tower; why do you not get glory for defending a node, which should be one of the key factors in winning a match?

Keep in mind that you can go into sPvP with full traits and all skills unlocked and test around in there first, before you try and get into WvW (which is hard to be competitive until at least level 30, when you get your elite skill).

The same build I use for support is also a pretty decent sPvP bunker build, which can be fun if you’re defending keep or graveyard.

Well of Blood, the one that causes Blindness, the ones that convert an enemy’s boons and convert an ally’s conditions (the latter two only for PvP/WvW).

If you’re in a dungeon definitely Plague form, the AOE blind is awesome for reducing damage your party takes.

Staff staff staff. Regen on 2, chill / combo field on 3, 4 dumps all conditions, 5 is a fear. The entire weapon is built for support.

Someone discouraged you from playing Necromancer and I’m not sure that’s fair. There are plenty of builds that can be fun to play. There are a lot of bugs, and some traits which have next to no use, but the class isn’t as broken as people make it out to be. If you want to join a paid tournament team you might need to conform to a specific build, but you can find success with any profession if you enjoy it and like crafting your own custom builds.

That’s not meant to discourage you from playing an Elementalist. My friend loves his, but you mentioned Warlock in WoW. Oh I see, it’s the blast finishers created by well of blood.

So you’ve got well of blood, which eliminates the condition dump from consume conditions AND you’re using Putrid Mark for the retaliation instead of the condition dump. With well of blood’s limited duration, you’re dumping all your cooldowns at the start of a fight, and it’s only going to provide reflected damage if they target you (or one of the people who stood inside your well for 5 seconds), and don’t wipe out your boons.

I’m not saying it won’t work, but your claim of it being OP seems a bit overzealous. Against a team who knows what they’re doing, you might surprise them once and then they’re going to figure out what you’ve done and it won’t work again. It’s something very easy to adapt to, which means it might work very well in sPvP, but it won’t work in tPvP.

It’s a sturdy build when combined with death shroud and plague form, enabling me to survive indefinitely against 1, sometimes 2, and against 3 I can defend long enough to keep the point in my color until backup arrives. It’s fun as hell, because it’s so hard to die. Damage is constantly pouring out thanks to staff skills, though it’s not very high (but doesn’t need to be).

I’m curious what other classes have fun bunker builds. I have a Guardian but I’m not enjoying it as a bunker. It’s sturdy, but just not very fun. I saw a defense specced Elementalist who was able to tank 2-3 of us and also had a knockback.. that seemed fun.

Which classes have fun bunkers?

Edit: I meant to post this in the sPvP forum. It seems I was on the wrong tab :/

I’ve beaten it around 10 times between my Charr male and Human female.

Now I’m onto the challenge of grabbing both chests on the way up.

The boss kill does have diminishing returns. I did it three times. The first time was the bag and XP, the second was 5 bags and 5 of one of the three special items (skull, nougat), and the third was 3 of each.

The chest gave approximately the same loot each time. I got tonics and level 70ish greens (I’m level 56).

I finished the puzzle on my Charr, then went on my Human to see what all the fuss was about and finished the puzzle on my fifth try. There were three Charr in that map, and at no point did a Charr cause me to fall.

There were a lot less female dwarves and orcs in WoW too. It makes sense that the monstrous or ugly races are going to have fewer female characters.

While on the same topic, I’ve seen a similar ratio in Sylvari characters, but with females dominating over males. I think on my young Sylvari I only saw one male player, and around a dozen female.

How much does it cost to change between tradeskills at 400 skill level?

When you reach skill level 400, how much does it cost to change? I’m between 75 and 200 on the three I’m raising and the price is between 5 and 15 silver, or so.

My goal is to have all eight on one character at 400 and keep Chef/Artificer active once it’s all done, switching to the others when I really need to craft something.
