The only real way to stop people from being hacked and the gold sellers from spamming their adverts, is to ban the accounts who also purchase the gold, which is very easy to track down. However; it can sometimes take small amount of time to review logs on the server, so response time to other customers may become longer.

And then somehow to and make it so the purchase of digital stolen goods becomes a crime and you can then legally take action against those involved and make it so they are fined.

This then results in a lot of children having their Internet access removed, once their parents are issues with a court hearing date in regards to their child’s activities on the Interwebs or you have a unemployed/employed/student person that has to sell their computer to pay for the court fees due to their lack of common sense.

SE perma-ban’s sellers and buyers of gil in FFXI and FFXIV. About once a month they post the number of accounts they banned. It’s in the hundreds every time. It’s a good deterrent for the players, we do have fewer now buying than we did a few years ago. But it hasn’t stopped it. And the rmt’s just create new accounts. FFXI has almost no rmt activity these days, since the release of FFXIV:ARR, but they come in droves in FFXIV.

Banning both sides engaging in rmt activity helps, but there is never going to be a 100% effective way to end it.

That’s why I just want to encourage people – instead of complaining in the forums – to learn the patterns of a boss, show some patience and if you still have problems, just ask a friend or in a town/outpost if you can get some help. It’s really not that hard to find help.

I didn’t find your last reply to me encouraging at all.

I mean… really! Turned me completely off to anything you might have to say… helpful or not.

As I said before, I play for relaxation and fun and I found nothing, whatsoever, fun about that fight.

Zen bound 2 is a great game. Altough it is quite challenging if you want to max it out, but just playing it casually feels fantastic.

I’m have no interest in getting started in yet another f2p game. I assume the game you mention here is cash shop oriented, much like Perfect World International, in which I am only semi-active. I prefer GW, GW2, FFXI, and FFXIV. Another game would have to be absolutely awesome and offer pet oriented jobs for me to even consider it.

Why do people feel the need to recommend other games when I haven’t even hinted at wanting to play anything else? GW2 feels awesome played casually, thank you.

Not free to play, nor does it have a cash shop:

I already pay subscriptions for FFXI and FFXIV. My budget won’t allow another subscription.

Thanks, but I am really not interested in getting started in another game. And this one in particular, just from this video, isn’t something that would interest me at all.

Please, don’t recommend new games to me. I post on these forums because I LIKE GW2 and NOT looking for another game.

AFK'ers in the Silverwastes

I’ve had huge problems recently with the map being “full” but less then 20 people per fort. I am unsure of the max number of people per map but when you port back to Camp Resolve there are a lot of people there sitting and doing nothing.
Since Silverwastes is a more active map, in both events and population, can we get a shorter afk timer? Or maybe a way to report AFK people whom are simply sitting there and tapping the mouse once in a while until the major boss events? It is frustrating being one of maybe 10 people defending a fort. It’s hard and I wouldn’t mind letting people in who want to help but can’t because the map is “full”.
I will say that I am targeting the inactive people on the map and not the people whom get pulled away from their PC because of life reasons.

Isn’t there an auto-disconnect if a person is afk too long?
There seems to be for me… I go afk to make some food, take my dog out, or answer a knock at the door and come back on my character select screen, with a message that I was idle too long.

Ok so you weren’t verbally assaulted. That’s where the misunderstanding was. Sometimes you get those WvWvW elitist. All good

Exactly! No verbal abuse.

No one, in-game, has ever spoken to me in an ill tone. Probably because I don’t do PvP or WvW, which I am pretty sure I’d suck at. >.<

Punkit Im talking about you getting attacked in map chat for saying all you wanted was the wolf pet. You didn’t have to say that in map chat at all, that attack could have been avoided if you just kept to yourself.

I’ll apologize now, because I had a great big LMBO when I read this…. at your expense.
You still haven’t paid attention to what I said.

Let me see if I can simplify:

-I went into WvW.
-I did NOT say anything in any kind of chat whatsoever.
-I was making my way to wolf area.
-I got attacked and defeated. (Neither I nor my pet fought back)
-I made a second attempt.
-I got attacked and defeated. (Neither I nor my pet fought back)
-Before my THIRD attempt, I shouted. (did not know at that time that enemy players could not see anything I say)
-Made my way to wolf area WITHOUT getting attacked.
-Got my wolf.
-Left WvW.

After learning on here that enemy player’s cannot see my chat, I concluded that they figured out on their own what I was doing and left me alone the third time.

Understand now?

I have no doubt that going in for map completion is going to be a whole different story.

You stating you’re in the wvw for a wolf pet was pointless. You didn’t have to say that in map chat, just run to that area and take it. I’ve done it couple of times on my ranger, then again I only leveled my ranger in wvw.

Actually, my being in WvW for the wolf WAS THE POINT for my having been there in that instance. So it wasn’t pointless to say that. You need to pay a little more attention to what you are reading. I WAS trying to ‘just’ run to that area and take it, but I was attacked on my first 2 attempts. I shouted, and because the third time I was left alone, I assumed my shout was seen by the enemy players. I know nothing about WvW or PvP because I have no interest in them, therefore, never bothered with learning any of it. That includes who can and cannot see what I say in chat. Someone, higher up in this thread, informed me already that my shout would have no effect on enemy players. So my conclusion is this: In this instance, I did not fight back and my pet was on heel, so the enemy players figured it out on their own and left me alone the third time. I know they saw me, because I could see them, even though I gave as wide a berth around their camp as I could. I got my wolf and promptly left WvW. But I still need to go back for map completion and already said I was going to do it the way that was suggested above, by another poster.

Wow, you must be a really really bad player, if you can’t even fight this boss… I guess games like Devil May Cry, Bayonetta or Demon’s Souls is unknown to you.

Oh, where are the good old times, where only gamers played games?

And you must (obviously) be a really really judgmental person. Very crummy social skills… I’d work on that if I were you!

But to answer your inquiry… because I am a decent person and I am NOT ashamed of NOT being hardcore… you are right, I don’t play those games nor have I heard of them. I can count the number of mmo games I play on one hand. (That would be 5, in case you weren’t sure.) Does not mean I am not a gamer, and, by the same token, does not mean that I am. Curious… where do you get off thinking that only ‘gamers’ should play games? They’re, um… GAMES… not jobs.

Thanks everyone else for all the input. Most appreciated and thank you for your kindness!

This may be a noob question… I admit it, sometimes I can be a total noob… but I have to ask.

For my sanity’s sake, I am taking a break from the Season 2 storyline. I’ll get back to it… eventually. Currently I am just laying back and trying to earn a little gold. I don’t craft, so I am just harvesting, mining, logging, and farming materials and selling them. In the course of doing this, I’m also working on map completion.

My question:
Is total map completion just the PvE area’s, or does it also include PvP, and WvW area’s? Because I do not do PvP nor WvW and the last time I went into the Mist’s… to get my wolf companion, I was viciously attacked. All I wanted was the wolf, I didn’t want to fight. After 2 defeats, in which I did not even fight back and my pet was on heel – (to those who attacked me, I hope you found me satisfactorily challenging >_>,) – I finally shouted that I was there for the wolf only and that I had no intentions of fighting back if attacked. I got my wolf, but I really do not relish the thought of trying to get map completion in those area’s with so many viciously kill-happy people in the area’s. I know that is what those area’s are for, but seriously… pummel a non-violent person who doesn’t even defend themself… how is that either challenging or sporting? I mean, really? It’s like sicking my wolf on a mouse.

Seriously…

First off all let me start by saying, Guild Wars 2 is not a perfect game…not by far, not even close, it’s so frustrating and infuriating and i have rage quited so many times and deleted the game.

But what did i do after i deleted the game? downloaded the wholeee thing again, took a big cup of chill and played again. Did i whine on the forums? nope. (Mostly i do my rage quits in dungeons, there are some people that just LOVE to kick you out at the last boss so they can invite friends/guild mates, so you have to do the whole thing all over again)

I feel much better about my /ragequit’s now… XD

At least when I’ve rage quitted, I didn’t delete the game. lol
I knew I’d come back, usually the very next day, if not that very same evening.

The longest I’ve been away was one year, logging in for a few minutes only now and then when I had a moment to spare. It wasn’t a rage quit.

Here’s to future /ragequit’s that are inevitable on my end! \(^.^)/

How is 3/5 people to kick still in the game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: punkinkatt.4823

punkinkatt.4823

TBH, I think it should be a 100% vote to kick, with a do not kick option to negate the lingering window issue.

I’ll tell you why I believe this. In another mmo I play, we have this kind of kick feature. Party sizes are 6, for lower level content, and 8 for higher end content, with alliances consisting of 3 8-man parties for even higher content. For the 6 player content, you need 3/5 people to kick and 4/7 for the 8. (Alliance members cannot vote-kick another party’s members.) But this feature is abused.

Example: (true story)

We were doing a raid. It required a full alliance. In our party, it was me and 3 of my guild mates and 4 people from another guild. One of the other guilds people was trolling… deliberately doing things that would cause the fight to either be lengthened or fail. His guild mates allowed this. When the other 2 parties in the alliance complained, one of my guild mates told them who was doing the trolling and, promptly, the other guilds members vote kicked my guild mate. It was their 4 against 3 of us. Of course, we promptly left the raid too and reported the abuse.

This is only one way of many that this kind of feature can be abused.

if i keep playing only warrior, am i not be able to fight against new class guy and also not be able to use Stronghold pvp content? as well as skins and pvp amulets that are available for expansion. original users and expansion users get seperated server?

When the new expansion is released, you buy it. When you install it, the content will be added to the current GW2 content. It’s the same game, just new content. You’re current character will have access to all of it.

Have you tried rebooting?

Mine got stuck one time a while back and I rebooted and that fixed it.

I REALLY don’t want to restart because i’m afraid that this file might be huge and I might lose progress on the download….

If the bar hasn’t moved any, it’s not likely that it is downloading.

afaik the bar doesn’t move based on download size, it moves based on files downloaded. So i started with 6 files and 6 files are remaining, so it’s finished 0% of the files

How long has it been on 0%?

Hours x_x

It’s stuck, my friend. There are no single files quite THAT large. >.<

Living Story = Story DLCs.
These story DLCs are given for free as a reward for all active GW2 players. Those who aren’t active have to pay for the story DLCs, through in-game gold or money.

And what of new players? They’re just out of luck or have to play for a free to play game’s content? I don’t think the GW2 storyline developers and whatnot thought this through before making this decision. It’s unfair to new players and returning players alike.

They would have been out of luck if it were like season 1. At least now they have an option to experience those episodes. They can do it for free if they tag along with someone that does have access. The episodes are also relatively cheap if you buy with money or gold.

The fact that the episodes are cheap isn’t the point. It’s a free-to-play game and newcomers, along with returning players, are being made to pay-to-play if they want to keep up with the storylines. I, myself, missed season 1 (and can’t get it at all), but I got every episode of season 2.

But, perhaps they are better off because season 2 is turning out to not even be worth the effort, so certainly not the expense. Not if you enjoy playing solo, like I do.

It’s free to play for the existing game that they paid for. They’re not paying a subscription fee to play it. The living story is not part of this although active players who log in during its initial two week period get it for free.

The Living Story was part of all the advertising prior to GW2’s release. It was assumed it was a part of the game as purchased and through normal updates. It’s part of what made GW2 the most anticipated mmo of the year back about 3 years ago or so. It’s very disappointing to know they only intended it to be free for people who play the game without ever having to take a break from it. And only if they’ve played from the start… newcomers be dam’d.

Don’t get me wrong… I started playing right after release. But I did miss season 1 because, unavoidably, I had to take leave of the game for a bit. I just believe this is a form of preferential treatment aimed at regular players. Excluding would-be regular players who are new to the game. There should be no preferential treatment of any player group.

I could be wrong (and feel free to post anything proving it), but I don’t remember LS ever being part of the advertising. From what I remember, we all bought the game at launch. Then, obviously, wanted new content, and Anet experimented with how to give it to us, which is where we got our first Southsun Cove update. It was laggy and definitely something of a “beta” experience for Anet I think. They definitely try and be a different MMO company, so I think they developed the LS after this. I mean hell, our first real LS update all we did was hammer signs on paths, so it was definitely a work in progress for them.

So they would take our feedback, update, take feedback, update, etc. And, one of the BIGGEST complaints about LS1 was the temporary content, which again by listening to player feedback, some things they decided to start making permanent through the LS. But I think they were a bit in too deep at the time to make all the Scarlet stuff permanent (which is why they want to find a way to make that available to new players,) and that is how we got our method of playing LS2.

Personally, I think its fair. I won’t get too into my opinion as many have stated it before, but yeah… I liked this was of the LS2. To be honest, the second half of LS2 I was playing Archeage, but I knew logging in for each of them unlocked the content for free, so I made sure to at least do that, even though I was all “OMG ARCHEAGE IS SO FUN NEVER PLAYING ANYTHING ELSE EVARRR” (spoiler; it wasn’t and now I’m back here.) I tried doing this for my boyfriend’s account, but managed to miss 2 or 3 of the chapters. Converted gold to gems, bought them, and done. We played together and finished just in time to get on the HoT hypetrain.

If Living Story wasn’t a part of the advertising prior to release, I must have some kind powers of premonition. I knew about it well before release. And I am NOT confusing it with the “personal” story. I knew about BOTH.

Not at all interested in leveling any craft for 100’s of levels. I have a life outside this game.

1. Please don’t try to use that as a justification for anything ever. The I have a life phrase is just plain insulting to everyone does not even make sense when you think about it and is designed to try and belittle someone else’s choice of time investment.

2. Assuming you have the resources the total time it takes is roughly 1 hour per craft just navigating menus so is quite short.

It takes one hour of crafting to level it 400 levels? Ooooookaaaayy…!
And yes, my statement about having a life outside of the game is a valid one. It wasn’t meant to be insulting to people who choose to put in a lot of time in-game. It was meant to indicate that I do not have that kind of time and would rather spend what time I have doing missions and quests.

I have 14,233,144 tendrils attacking me all at once. Die repeatedly within the course of a mere 2 minutes. Almost all gear is broken, so continuing isn’t an option.

As I said before, I play for relaxation and fun and I found nothing, whatsoever, fun about that fight.

Of course, if I give up on the storyline, all I have left to do in this game is map completion and some unfinished dungeons. I am a PvE player. Not interested in any kind of PvP or WvW.

I’m quickly becoming very disappointed in how GW2 is turning out.

Guildwars 2 was sold as using action combat as opposed to traditional combat so it wasn’t exactly advertised as “relaxing”.

There are 3 tendrils, <snip>

Many aspects of the game are relaxing , it doesn’t mean the whole game has to be , perhaps the story is not an element of the game for relaxation.
As it is GW2 is widely considered the easiest MMO out there and there have been many many topics about raising the difficulty and requiring the player to pay attention, LS 2 is a step towards this and is what I’d consider a positive change.

I definitely saw well more than 3 tendrils on my screen. The floor was so full of circles indicating attack area, that my character barely had one square foot to stand in at any given moment that was safe. Dodging and jumping were of little help because of this. And if the content of GW2 is scheduled to become even more difficult, without giving a player a choice of difficulty levels, then I will soon be quitting the game. I am far from the only player that has posted on here that the Living Story is too difficult. They should have already implemented a choice menu for level of difficulty.

I said relaxation and FUN… I have not found anything about season 2’s fights fun… at all. I like challenge, but if that challenge becomes frustrating, it’s no longer a challenge, but a deterrent to going any further in the story. I’m not going to struggle through a fight and die repeatedly and continue to go back for more punishment. Even if the end result is a win. It too aggravating and I care a little more about myself than that. I don’t enjoy being aggravated.

I would say that if you are playing Guild Wars 2 for the rewards your are playing it wrong.

I don’t play for the rewards… they are a plus, but not my sole incentive. I play for the story, but I’m not sure that even that is worth the aggravation this particular storyline is giving me.

I also should mention that you need very high, if not max, crafting level for most of the crafts to craft the back piece and item that consumes bloodstone dust.

All of these require you to farm events in the new maps. The first two require you to farm geodes to purchase recipes and clay bricks. Although I believe all of this can be bypassed if you buy everything from the TP. The armor will require a lot of grind as many people can attest to although it’s somewhat reduced now that you can get almost everything from the vendor with crests.

I’m not interested in the gear… or the back piece. And I’m not going to go through this storyline just for the what-ever-it-is, the bloodstone dust thing, if, end the end, I still have to craft it. Not at all interested in leveling any craft for 100’s of levels. I have a life outside this game.

Living Story = Story DLCs.
These story DLCs are given for free as a reward for all active GW2 players. Those who aren’t active have to pay for the story DLCs, through in-game gold or money.

If you like the back piece skin, want something to turn bloodstone dust to loot, and/or like luminescent armor then yes.

The what-ever-it-is that turns bloodstone dust to loot sounds interesting, seeing as how I have a ton of that stuff. But it, alone, is a piddly prize for all the aggravation I have gotten from this storylines fights. Not interested in glowy gear or skins. There are nice skins in the Gem Store that I can get should I decide I’d like to have them and they’re completely aggravation free.

I agree with Aylrilana, and on top of that the story this season turned out pretty good. It won’t hurt to do the story with someone else so that is always an option!
Not to brag but it is doable solo, I managed it on my mesmer.

Well, it seems the ONLY way I would be able to do some of, if not all, the fights I have left will be if I can get someone to help. But getting help the exact times that I am online isn’t guaranteed. I am sure it is doable solo and some people thrive on high-stress and highly difficult content. But for me, stress is not fun, aggravation is not fun, and being annoyed is not fun. I enjoy a challenge, but not something that is going to drive me to the point of giving up… which this content is quickly leading up to me doing.

If I get the story done, then good. But if I don’t, then sobeit.

So, now I am on episode 4 of season 2. The world summit. After the summit and an attack by some of the mordrerm, all my npc buddies go down stairs. I’m left alone at the top to fight some kind of dragon. I have 14,233,144 tendrils attacking me all at once. Die repeatedly within the course of a mere 2 minutes. Almost all gear is broken, so continuing isn’t an option.

I’m about this .. close to giving up on the season 2 storyline.

Gimmicky boss mechanics

in Living World

punkinkatt.4823

If you find the mechanics Gimmicky what is your proposed alternative?

How would you design a boss fight so that
-The player can’t just stand still
-High damage does not allow you to negate the fights difficulty/mechanics.
-The fight takes longer than an average trash encounter.

Just to name 2 fights (because they’re the only ‘gimmicky’ ones I’ve gotten to so far), The Fort Salma boss, speed up the minions, they are far too slow, and add a little more time before the boss puts it’s shield back up. And the Possessed Statue boss in episode 3 of season 2, add more time between Menders. They pop way too quickly.

Again, just my 2 cents worth.

I’m guessing that season 2 is actually full of fights that I will, as in the 2 mentioned above, /ragequit and seek help for. Although I did finally solo the Fort Salma one but it took a VERY LONG time.

I play for relaxation and fun and when the fights become aggravating or annoying, it takes all the fun out of it.

Actually, even though I got all of the season 2 episodes as they were released, I do not agree with the decision to charge people for the episodes if they didn’t, or were not able to, log in during the free period. People have lives outside of gaming and sometimes it takes them away from the games, completely, for a while. As well as unfortunate things like pc’s going down and extended internet service interruptions which can be caused by any number of reasons.

These are continuations of the Living Story, not expansions. A storyline that starts with the original release. I, myself, missed a season (nightmare tower, destruction of Lion’s Arch, etc) and that season is just gone. I can’t do it and had to go online to catch up on the story for season 2 just to understand what led up to these events. I mean really! When I logged back in after my leave from the game (season 2, episode 1 was just released), I popped in Lion’s Arch and literally, out loud, to myself, asked, “What the heck happened to Lion’s Arch?”

I think ArenaNet could do better, but I also think Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 are among the best mmo games out there. I just hope ArenaNet doesn’t ruin it by making so much of it cash oriented, like some other gaming providers have. They will, after all, be having real expansions, which will have to be purchased, as with any other reputable game, including those which are subscription based.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Edit: Forgot to mention about the issue of new players just joining the game. Guild Wars 2 is supposed to be a free to play game. But for people who are just joining, it isn’t. They get their personal storyline for free, but not anything else, save for quests, pvp, and wvw. For them it is a pay-to-play game. They must pay for each episode. Yes, it’s 2.50 USD per episode, but it’s still not free to play, as ArenaNet had said it would be. I remember they said, “Free to play and always will be.” But it’s not, is it? Not for everyone!

That’s what I was trying to do, but I got, at best, one round of rapid fire off on the statue before I had to turn my attention to the next mender. Not much damage there. Between that, and being knocked around by the sphere’s and having to kill the menders, it was going to take me far too long to do this fight. Point blank shot is a knockback, but it doesn’t knock the menders back any, just knocks them down and gives me, maybe, an additional 1 second.

Season 2, episode 3 - pt1: Plan of Attack

Hi, my in-game name is Xev Munroe, a ranger, on the Sea of Sorrows server.

I am indubitably stuck on this part of season 2, episode 3. The Possessed Statue cannot be killed solo… not by me, anyway. I’m too busy keeping the Mender’s killed off and don’t have any opportunity before the next one spawns to do any significant damage to the statue.

I have not yet found a walkthrough that explains how this mission can be accomplished solo and no idea if I can even take anyone else inside instances like this. I’ve never tried and, except for the Zhaitan fight at the end of the first storyline, I have soloed everything so far.

Can someone, please, explain how this mission can be completed? I’m finding it very difficult… more so than I am able to tolerate, to be honest.

Thanks!
