Fractals ruined everything....

He actually has a point. To those who actually enjoy fractals and have a regular groups, this isn’t an issue. But to many who are revisiting the mid to late game again on another alt at level 60-80s – good luck in getting any Dungeon Story runs done.

Citadel of Flame, Heart of the Waves are easy enough for pick up groups that some would still volunteer, maybe Twilight Arbor as well. But for harder ones like Circle of Eternity, Arah etc – good luck finding an exploration run going.

And when you get to 80. Good luck finding Fractal Level 1 parties, cause FDS is tied to each character.

It’s a wake up call for some players I think: You need to be this tall to party with other members.

This is for pure PVE dungeon runs, mind you.
I cannot help but think this is a bad direction to take.

Your virtues give nice boons, and every critical strike grants Vigor and triggers Altruistic Healing.

Sigil of Blood will gradually restore health as you score criticals while Sigil of Accuracy bumps your critical with an additional 5%.

Yes, dealing Greatsword damage.
Hitting 5 target per strike – critting too.
At 900 range. Triggering a Sigil of Fire too.
While dropping a Symbol on them and Wall of Reflection.

Nice. I might give this a try.
Might stacking with Rifle / Pistol .. which is better?

Was thinking of using Sigil of Strenght for Might on Crit while the offhand pistol will get Accuracy for 5% Critical due to the lack of Precision in this build.

Gear wise – Berserker?
I’m guessing 2 x Hoelbrak 2 x Strength 2 x Fire rune would be your 60% Might Duration increase.

also, wouldn’t swapping to med kit count as using heal skill to trigger Enhanced Performance? This would mean you lower the downtime of might?

Thanks for the cool idea. Was always wondering why that Might seems underappreciated – but now I get it.
But what about the trait spread? HGH and Enhanced Performance would take 50 pts.
What happens to the remainder of the points?

If you really think engaging a Guardian equipped with a rifle, dropping a wall of reflection, using Save Yourselves and Stand your Ground, clad in Heavy Armor is balanced, then more power to you.

Realize that this game isn’t about having every class being very good at everything. For something that each profession excels at, something must be taken away.

Though I like the Spirit Bow being a 1200 range summoned weapon idea. Spirit Weapons need a good buff overall.

Signet of Mercy needs to be changed to work like Elixir Revive.
Drop a symbol of Mercy, that revives downed teammates.

I accept the 2 min cooldown if it does. It really boggles the mind why Engineers can do group revive while the Signet can only do single revive and is on extremely long cooldown AND cast time.

90 Healing Passive is a joke. I’d take ZERO healing if it has half the cooldown.

Healing skill choice question

The turret is too good for dungeons.
Like someone said, water field, detonation, the low cooldown. Toolbelt slot.
So much regen when coupled with Dwayna rune.

Med kit is different, I use this in World v World and enjoy a 40 second swiftness with Rune of Centaur. It’s too clunky to rely on Dungeons.

Elixir wise … eh.. I don’t like it. Sure it gives random boon, but Turret trumps it due to added detonation and team heal. Elixir is more selfish in nature, and tossing it requires accuracy or it’s a wasted usage.

As for Traits – not really, turret excels so much that it doesn’t need a trait.

For Single Target, Empower is just the way to go.
Those might stacks were just not for show.
Staff is simply there for empower.
Pre fight, I just empower > orb > symbol of swift on the target > swap > Leap of Faith > Symbol of wrath > binding blade > whirl > roll back > swap > orb > symbol > empower > repeat loop.

with some shouts in between, the amount of downtime is minimized when you have two handed mastery. It never feels like a waste running with staff. People love that 1.6 k heals. My group got so used to those 1.6k burst heals that they just stood there and dps as I regen them with Virtue & Shouts.

Guardians were never meant for full all out dps and burst…if you’re trying to top the dps charts as Guardians, you’re playing the wrong profession here.

Oh right. A build that focuses around one condition will do well in sPVP amrite?
Tome of Wrath spam works cause it still does raw damage on top of the burning and the duration is short enough that cleansing is meaningless in high number situation. Even in Dungeon, I hesitate to use it, cause it blocks all usage of utility slot for 20 seconds.

If we’re talking Dungeon running with burn as primary dps, yeah. It could work. But if you have an elementalist in the group, spamming burns – then you start to question why even base your build around it in the first place? There are so much better stuff that Guardians can perform at.

Viable Sword/torch burning build

Is the only way. I’m no fan of the Sword & Torch too, but 15% one hand crit means bringing a good sigil to trigger often. Since I forgo Altruistic Healing, I’m just gonna go with Sigil of Blood for lifestealing.

Swap to Scepter for Ranged and Focus to avoid burst dmg. Notice that this setup is used for ‘retreating’ when you took a big hit and healing isn’t forthcoming. Focus Shield will absorb 3 blows before breaking, enough time to gather that lost HP back with your shouts. Sigil of Blood on Scepter & Leeching on Focus should help out in recovering stage.

The three shouts are used primarily as such:
Save Yourselves: Dps booster, Damage reduction, Regeneration all in one. Have this up when you start engagement.
Hold the Line: Healing & Damage Reduction. Use this when you start taking damage.
Stand your ground: Use this as stun breaker and stability when you’re knocked down. The Retaliation is just gravy.

What I hate most of this build is Zealot Defense planting your feet on the ground. And Sword #2 not being much use in boss fights. Sure, the Torch #4 will let you keep the target burning, but for condition damage, I rather play Necro, Elementalist or other classes that have more than one source of Condition.

Good luck. I don’t think I’ll revisit this build any time soon.

Some replies on sPvP usage is laughable. Yeah, I’m sure this guy can pull off that sort of numbers without getting flattened in Dungeons with Sword & Torch.
Too much risk, too little reward is what I’d call this setup.

Guardian isn’t about burst DPS nor highest sustained DPS. Other classes can do better. See your profession icon? It’s a shield.

Sorry, in Dungeons where mobs do upwards 1k + damage, Shelter is way superior with 2 second block for Guardians.

Anyways, Prayer to Dwayna needs a AoE blinding effect to be even viable.

I think what he’s trying to say is, your healing is fecal matter compared to Engineer options.

Engineer has targeted heals if he traited for it.
Guardians have nothing like that unless you want a 2 minute cooldown heal bubble that needs two traits to be targeted and reduced cooldown.

Already said this many times:
1. Make the portal bigger, easier to spot.
2. Make it destructible. It has a set amount of HP like a summoned pet etc.
3. Increase the cool-down (at least 180 sec) so as not to make every minor engagement turn into a rendering abuse.

Yep reward vs effort is just crap.
You run a dungeon with experienced group for 20 mins and you’re pretty much getting half a dozen green item, maybe a few rare and tokens…plus 26 silvers. You may not even spend a single coin on repairs.

I would not debate about PvP and PvE ‘measure of fun’ but one can say safely that World v World reward is not there. Not even close.

Just place an interactive object for the party to start an event when they enter certain spots. Press F – Are you ready to start the next event? Yes/No?

It’s a nice placeholder fix while you sort out this ‘hard to track’ issue with AIs pathing and such.

Ranger.
Short bow is great, Greatsword is great.
Pretty good selection of pets and skills.

I can’t see a problem if you want to dabble in both. The class is meant to range, but that doesn’t mean they can’t dish out some melee damage.

If you really want a more melee-centric build, I’d say Warrior with a Rifle / Greatsword setup. Nice heavy armor and survivability with burst damage when needed. It’s not a traditional ‘tank’ warrior either. They hurt a lot.

I’ve tried tanking for a bit in dungeons on my guardian.
Encountered a few issues.
1. Eye blasting colors
Fire, Lightning, Mesmer, everything going off at point blank range.

2. Red Circle..red circle…
I can’t dodge what I can’t see. How do I turn down the no.1 effect?

My guild told me to keep an eye on the floor, not on the mob. But that’s just weird, I thought i was supposed to watch out for pre-heavy damage animation instead of watching for red circles.

It might be a little early, but I’ve got some special people I’d like to reward for being nice pals in the game.

I was wondering, what’s the best stuff to gift’em.

There’s only 3 of them…

Mesmer pal:
He kinda wanted the Halloween Staff skin. I’m kinda worried he might get it and we ended up buying TWO of the same. How much would this cost on TP? Should I try to bid 15 G on it? If you’re wondering what it is, it’s called ‘The Crossing’

Ranger pal:
He’s a stingy sort, he upgraded all his bank slots and bag slots (When gem was cheap) but kept using 8 slot bags cuz it’s too expensive to craft bigger slots. Yes, the 10 slot he’s got is from Mad King lawl. I’m definitely giving him a 20 slot and some 12 slots.

Warrior pal:
I think he’s got everything he wants. I’m not sure what I should give. Most probably he has all the dye he wants. All 20 slots too. So what should I get him?

If you want PVE outside dungeons, this isn’t really a difficult build to make it work.
Decide if you want Single Hander / Two Hander.
Then go full Radiance for Single Hander for the 15% crit booster on GM trait.
For Two handers go for Honor – 20% Two Handed Weapon Cooldown and Might on Critical.

If you want a really safe build, run with 3 shouts. One that heals, one that recovers from stuns / knockdowns, one for dps burst. Those can’t go wrong.

Nothing like using a Signet, only to see the restored HP bar not going up after the cast is over due to knockdown / interrupts. No, I rather take Shelter low cooldown and semi invulnerability.

Signet’s passive Condition removal is the only good argument for it. Otherwise, Shelter just blocks so much when facing dungeon bosses big hits or World v World focus fire.

Zealot’s Defense – Plant your legs and range spam while reflecting projectiles. Has limited use in PvP – but in Dungeons will get you killed.

Sanctuary – Too long of a cooldown to be a valid utility slot.

Merciful Intervention – based on two arguments – closest ally with lowest HP = targeting fail. Forget about it. It doesn’t work.

Zeal Traitline

5 Zeal – Zealot Speed – drops a symbol of wrath when health drops to 25%.
What use can this possibly be? Increase it to 50/75% threshold and it might be useful.

IV – Revenge of the Fallen
Does more damage when downed. HAHAH. GTFO.

XII – Zealous Blade
20 HP gain per hit. While mobs deal 300-400 outside dungeons and inside they take out 10-33% when specced full toughness. This will not make a huge difference.

Radiance
I – Healer’s Retribution
Gains 3 seconds of retaliation after using healing skill. What a joke.

III – Shimmering Defense
Burns enemies around when you are at 25% HP. This … isn’t going to change the fact that you’re about to die.

IV – Inner Fire
When set on fire, you gain Fury. ROFL.

V – Searing Flame
When you set a target on fire, you remove a boon. Cooldown 20 seconds. The cooldown is too long for this to even be viable in PVP.

Valor

III – Strength of the Fallen
Lose health 33% slower when downed.
This is a good combination with Revenge of the Fallen trait. You deal more damage and die less quicker when downed. ROFL Kittens.

Virtue
IV – Retaliatototottotototory Subconscious
When under the effect of knockdown – you gain 3 second of retaliation. This will make the CC effect stay, while discouraging people to hit you. In theory.

In practice: lol.

2 Questions - Skill Activation & Graphic issues

1. I am aware that you can link the skill on chat, but I would love if in mid-combat, I can declare the skill as I activate it without using voicechat that is.

It shouldn’t be too hard, right?

2. Going into melee exposes my eyes to many special lights effect going off at the same time. It gets very uncomfortable when there’s blue flames, sigil of fire effects, lightning and purple mesmer going off at the same time.
Is there a way to tone this down? I can’t see anything when this is happening.

Make Command Targetable.
Sword – targeted AoE Damage against 5 targets caught in the blast.

Hammer – Fires a projectile at the target that knocks down in a line and returns for a second strike ala Thor’s Hammer. Max 5 targets in a line.

Shield – Dropping a Globe of Shield with targeting. This is probably the best way to make the utility slot worth it. Regular attacks will weaken targets. This is how it should be done.

Bow – Same deal. It should shoot healing arrows then do a targeted cleansing barrage on command to remove conditions. Who the heck would rely on a random AI to cleanse conditions?!

Broken DR-System? Or is this intended?

Yeah, I noticed this too. It’s just too stupid to comprehend.
No. You cannot bot a dungeon.
Yes, you can farm a dungeon.
If you want to limit farming so badly, at least ease up on weekend when people have more time to play. Are we supposed to spend less time on weekend on this game?

I don’t quite grasp the DR rules, but it’s a whole new concept to me being punished for clearing a dungeon too quickly.

I tried dungeon runs and main tanking, but I can hardly see anything when the spells are going off at once. This really turns me off from meleeing.

There’s the mesmer purplish blast, elementalist fiery effect, and the guardian smite going off at once. I felt blinded at times.

What is the setting to remove the light effects?

Just make the sparks drop a pick up item when killed.
The whole fight’s ridiculously broken due to AI pathing, not due to player incompetence.

We didn’t wipe, but the boss isn’t going down due to the Spark pathing.
Whoever tested it probably got lucky once and didn’t bother to retry it again.

And while we’re at it, how about a Staff-centric Trait?
You got scepter, sword, greatsword, torch, even focus, but not a single trait is specifically buffing the staff. Why is that?

I do feel this is an unintended feature.
Suppose this works with healing channeling – who wouldn’t do it?
And the dps increment is pretty severe.

Try watching that video again and try doing it yourself without dodging. Awful lot of difference isn’t it?

The drawback of Hammer hard hitting, combo start and finish chain IS the slow attack speed, and this ‘unintended feature’ removed that weakness.

I just can’t see not having it. Its a free Might / Regeneration / Protection boon on activation.
