OP, you have a point. I support you. I also think the Separatists have the right idea.
I wish I could point my gun at the charrs instead. Those subhumans responsible for bringing in the undead.

But I do think the human authorities are quite justified in dealing with the Separatists in this manner. I can think of several real life historical events that did this to preserve the stability of their nations in times of great crisis.

Some times a finger must be sacrificed to save the whole hand.

Changes to aegis

redknight.8036

Sorry. With 2 dodges available on top of all the current utilities and virtue mechanics, I just can’t see why Guardian deserve more layer of defenses in form of an improved aegis. Dodge is your multi-hit evasion mechanic. I just can’t see how you justify making Aegis as another free-dodge.
Even at .5 second duration of all block, improved Aegis is too strong. Whatever changes Guardian deserve, it definitely is not defensive oriented.

That Virtue cooldown reset, coupled with Retreat would result in ridiculous block spam. Traiting Block = Might = Altruistic Healing, the amount of triggers would just be ridiculous in WvW.

I hope ppl stop being so blinded by ‘Aegis blocks single hit’ and understand why Retreat comes with 2 boons instead of 1.

What i will concede is this:
Virtue of Courage complaint is VALID.
It is definitely saved by inspired Virtue – therefore giving Protection boon on top of Aegis when triggered I dont know what they could do to make the base virtue better – but it sure needs a buff..

Game feels incredibly anti-melee.

Just play ranger duh.
Then you have the excuse you need.

I do agree melee is hamstrung in their best damage damage. It’s a risk vs reward game. You deal nearly double the damage at melee range, but take worst potential damage up close. If you take lesser risk and range, you tend to deal less damage but made up for it in terms of ‘consistency’

You dodge less and heal less if range is done right.
While melee has to worry about all those.

If you really can’t make up your mind about what class to pick, definitely go Warrior for safest dungeon runner.

Whoever claimed GW2 Crafting is great is obviously using a guide to craft.

The Role issues is apparent when you’re introduced to AC for the first time when everyone is still level 35. Game has advanced to the developed stage, roles are becoming more apparent, but there’s still problems with the professions that remain unresolved, like Engineers.

Also
Don’t tell me you’re learned anything from those early encounters when EVERYONE lacks their GM traits at lvl 35 AC and is not ‘top-geared’ for the instance.

I’ve looked at the cosmetics weapons, yeah, while they’re nice to have – they’re pretty bad returns for time / money invested.

I hope they relook into this – but I doubt they would, it’s a good cash cow for them.
Acquiring Precursor itself is already a random chance..
You compound the randomness further by making its materials drop rate extremely rare.

I’d say people who complained it’s too hard is just stating the obvious. You’re not meant to craft this. This is a ’spender’s toy’ – you’re just gonna have to consign yourself to low cost – exo stats. There’s plenty of cheaper skins in the TP.

If you can’t resist and open your wallets, then more power to you.
That’ll just encourage A.net to keep making these uber-expensive skins to generate profits instead of better content.

Then on the third day, a waiter just came by and wrote on the menu ‘We ran out of ice, this is a temporary problem.’

How silly is that?
Water under the bridge, but keep this in mind – small little things that annoy your customers adds up.

If someone just brought this issue up to a non-owner of GW2, do you know what the non-owner would say?

“Sounds like a bad game, why do you even play it?”

This is awesome. It’s like renting a car, and it was rough around the edges, maybe it made a lot of noise and braking a bit iffy so I take it slow, I did email them about the problems I’m having but hardly any reply to acknowledge them then I return it to the garage for the regular 3 hour maintenance.

Next day, I wanted take it out for a spin, but before handing me the key, the mechanic says ‘The car’s fixed. A lot of problems are fixed, sir!’

I asked him, ’What’s the fix, my good man?’

‘Just take a ride and find out!’ he smiled as he hand me the keys.

So, should I step on the accelerator and try a tight turn with this ‘fixed car’?
Should I be wary of rainy weathers, whether the brakes actually work or not?

As I slot in the key and got the engine running, he knocked on my car window…
I lowered it.

“Would you like to buy some gems, sir?”

I drove off.

Could I Do Better

You don’t .. spread boon for the sake of healing yourself.
It was never intended as ‘burst heal’ trait.
Valor’s Altruistic Heal is something that kept the Guardian running by constantly ticking back the HP from doing what the Guardian naturally does best, granting boons.

Even a non-support utility bar Guardian still has 3 Virtues that grants boons to his allies.

And you said you have more than 10 points on Virtue. That’s one extra boon per activation of the virtue. And in a dungeon party, it is 5 times the Altruistic Healing will trigger whenever you activate a virtue.

And the funny thing, despite going the Valor line that grants Toughness…people forget it actually increases Critical Dmg by 30% too.

And the trait Retributive Armor – converts 5% of Toughness into Precision – translating into more critical chance %.

So yeah, I can see why people get the wrong idea that ‘Why is Valor’s Altruistic Healing so good, it heals so little. I can do more dmg!’

It’s not just AH that makes going full Valor very attractive. It’s the sum of its parts.
Now keep that 20 Virtue, 20 Honor and go 30 Valor.
You still have that 20% Two-Hand Cooldown, 20% Shout Reduction and Passive Regen from Resolution with an added heals + critical damage boost.

OK so your preference is solo-survival type in WvW that is capable of surviving a lot of damage and win most 1 v 1s.
First.
Throw away Altruistic Healing then, go for meditative healing.
If you’re running with less than 2-3 people AH won’t pay off as much.
Let’s take a look at what you’re building then..

A solo runner. Who takes care of just himself.
How about.. this?

30 Valor
I – Meditation Mastery
VI – Retributive Armor
XII – Monk’s Focus

20 Honor
II – Superior Aria
X – All symbols heal allies

20 Virtue
II – Vengeful
IX – Absolute Resolution

Utility Bars:
Healing Option: Signet.
At first, Shelter’s block may seem like a good idea, but eh.. the passive condition removal will help.

Utility:
7 – Smite Condition – Meditation
a fast 16 second heal and condition removal in one to keep you going with AoE damage.

8 – Stand Your Ground – Shout
Retaliation and Stability. Stun Breaker.

9 – Save Yourselves – Shout
Array of offensive and defensive buffs, don’t dismiss the Stun Breaker.

Elite: Renewed Focus

How it works is this:
This guardian is focused on self-preservation while keeping an endless chain of Retaliation boon up. Anything that hits him will get damaged back. That doesn’t count his auto-attack and other array of weapons he has at his disposal.

Take a look at the Virtue tree and you notice the following
25% Retaliation Length
Virtue Activation now grants 5 second Retaliation (7.5 with the previous trait .. +20% boon duration passive = 9.5 seconds.)

Let’s assume the fight starts, you get hit once…breaking your aegis.
You start the Virtue going.
F1 – Justice – Might , Burn on hit , Retaliation
F3 – Courage – Aegis, Protection , Retaliation

That’s already a massive 19 seconds of Retaliation up.
If you bring in Stand your ground (7.25s) and Save yourselves (14.5s) into the equation…

40.75 second.

But hold on. If you get 2-3 conditions, you pop the Virtue of Resolve. That’s another 9.5 second.

50.25 seconds!

But wait…hit Renewed Focus!

another 28.5 of Retaliation!

78.75s!

But wait! Symbol of Wrath (Greatsword #4!) another 7.5 second!

NOT YET!

LEAP INSIDE the COMBO FIELD!

ANOTHER 5 SECOND.

91.5 second of retaliation.

If the enemy is still alive after attacking your retaliation in 91.5 second on top of your other attack skills…then I admit defeat.

If you want to be mean, (Theorycrafting here)
Take away Renewed Focus and replace it with Human Elite – Hounds of Balthazar.
These two fiery puppies gets your Virtue Activated Boons and Retaliation as well.
At 6k hp each and 2k leap damage attack.

“A 90sec cooldown isn’t spammable, and usually pulling a group out of a really tight spot with quick heals and protection on a bossfight makes things go easier. "

Because you take down bosses in like…2 minutes?
And your group can wait for burst heals every 4 minutes?

And every 30 seconds, I’m obligated to spam my heal – … just to dps?
There’s a lot of things that ‘seems right in principle’ but when put under practice…doesn’t seem practical.

A haste every 90 seconds meant your healing won’t even get the ‘hasted’ benefit every time.

And getting down to 20% HP mark every 90 second isn’t something to plan for. It’s something to avoid happening in the first place. I brought up Rune of Lyssa as an example of something you can do ‘on demand’ not something you rely on ‘internal cooldown’ with no control over (90 second) and ‘having less than 21% HP’ to occur.

“Having all boons while invuln is almost a waste, "

No, but it sure does making sure you live and kick kitten easier than hoping nobody knocks you down when you trigger that ‘survival haste sequence’ because the Lyssa boon includes Vigor, Stability, Protection, Regeneration, and the works.

I still wouldn’t use ToC in dungeons except in some situation where spamming heals is more important than doing damage.

Renewed Focus cooldown makes it possible to spam it in boss fights consistently.
You’re triggering so many boons not to yourself but your allies as well compared to burst healing over 20 seconds where damage stops completely cause your hot bar is occupied with ToC 5 skills and utility slots disappear.

If they made utility stay during the Tome activation – I wouldn’t hate it so much. 20 seconds is a lot of recharges done.

Shelter – Renewed Focus chain is like a 5 second block
If you pair it with 6 x Rune of Lyssa set, that’ll trigger a complete condition cleanse and all boons for 5 seconds granted every 90 second. That’s like another version of Save Yourselves at your command.

And burning when healing – is probably the last thing I’ll thing I’ll promote this set for.

There is no line. Everyone can just roll past a giant nord for all they cared.
The issue with the World v World is just a straight zerg-up with the right boon and support spam is near unstoppable due to how the hit-capped aoe works.

This is why slapping a Wall of Reflection is a huge factor in ranged engagements because the amount reflected is never capped, and that’s why a.net doesn’t want guardian to have superb ranged options. You just can’t give Guardians both survivability and high ranged damage option with the accompanying virtue – consecration and shout mechanics.

Still don’t get it?
Try imagining a guardian with a Warrior’s Rifle / Longbow skill set with staff as 2nd weapon setup.
Utilities > Wall of Reflection / Save Yourselves / Stand Your Ground.
Have them form a party of 5 vs other 5 and engage in ranged combat exchange.
Not many party can beat that at range.

Only 45k karma and 50 silver to a seasoned player is a pittance, but it sure is nice for casuals to get a boost once a in a while.

But that’s okay, cause Guild Wars 2 is all about elitism nowadays, with the FDS level being the ‘you must be this tall to come raid with me’ requirement.

I know a lot of people spent a lot of time in Trading Post, buying low, selling high, but most players don’t do that to get this armor.

Arena.net fully expects people to buy the gems, and exchange it for gold, then buy the T3 Cultural. Ideally, that is their design vision.

To ask them to lower or alter the T3 Culture prices acquisition is just taking away gem store income – why would they even do that?

Idea for Spirit Weapons

in Guardian

Posted by: redknight.8036

redknight.8036

When we talk about Spirit Weapons, a lot of people would call it – a waste of utility slot. In fact a lot of Spirit Weapon builds are shoe-horned into Zeal tree to maximize the damage potential.

So, people end up sacrificing 2-3 traits and 2-3 utility slots just to make it work.
This isn’t great at all when Shouts and Consecrations have shorter cooldowns and much more of a game changer than Spirit Weapons ever will be.

My proposal : Spirit Weapons should have a Banner – like effect.

Think about it, theme of the Guardian is a very much party-oriented skills.
Virtues – all three of them grants boon to allies.
Consecrations grants boon to those who stand within it.
Shouts too, affect allies.

Why not give Spirit Weapon a party-enhancing effect much in the spirit of the Warrior’s Banner drop?

Currently, activating the Spirit Weapons (when fully traited) give a minor damage burst or knockdown etc.

To be exact on what they do:
Sword: It’s probably the best Spirit Weapon we have.
Passive AoE attacks.
Active AoE burst.

Hammer: It does respectable knockdowns with low damage.
Passive Periodic Target knockdown.
Active Single Target knockdown

Shield: The shield only protects against range…and it’s very random in where it places it. It forces people to stand on where it wants to plant it. Not a reliable support.
Passive Periodic Shield of Absorption
Active Multiple Weakness condition applied, with very small damage.

Bow: You cannot rely on this for Condition Removal nor Healing, because it moves randomly. The long cooldown also makes this a very forgettable pick.
Passive Periodic Condition Cleanse
Active Small Heal over an area – overshadowed by Hold the line, etc.

I propose that Spirit Weapon should give a party support boon when summoned on top of their existing abilities.

Sword of Justice : Party-wide 5 stacks of Might for 20 seconds.
Hammer of Wisdom : Party-wide 5% Critical Damage increase for 15 seconds.
Shield of the Avenger : Party-wide Protection for 10 seconds.
Bow of Truth : Every time the party member lands a critical strike, 33% chance they remove a condition.

With those bonuses up, I don’t feel like I’m getting a bad deal out of the Utility slot.

Sword of Justice adds damage and even more damage. For 60 sec recharge, that’s a good deal. Is it too good in exchange for other heal / support utility shouts?

Hammer of Wisdom: retains its crowd control ability while adding more critical damage. Too little? I realize Hammer is more of a PVP choice, and the critical damage should make it more attractive to the PVP crowd too. Or maybe retaliation is a better choice to differentiate it from Warriors Banner?

Shield of the Avenger: For the first time ever, the shield actually does something meaningful. It’s a shield, it should protect people. If it’s too overpowered… I guess drop an Aegis in there? It’s a shield. It’s a defensive summon.

Bow of Truth: It’s a condition cleansing weapon. It should do what it says with the new effect. It’s still a spirit weapon with a crappy recharge of 80 seconds. At least for 20 seconds, ANY party conditions are GUARANTEED to go away.

So what do you guys think? Am I just asking too much?

Inner Fire: Not giving Fury?

in Guardian

Situational traits are never worth it, unless the situation occurs very often. (See: Altruistic Healing)

There are way better traits in Radiance than one that grants fury when receiving a VERY SPECIFIC condition. Imagine if Altruistic Healing only triggers of Might boons…nobody would even give it a chance.

It’d be better if Inner Fire triggers off ANY condition, but I think since this isn’t a serious bug or issue, the fix will not be forthcoming.
