It really depends on your own play style and preference, but if you’re looking for dps/crit with decent survivability and mainly in PvE, I’d recommend retraiting to 30/30/x/x/x and seeing how it works out, and if it doesn’t you can move points back into WS/BM until you get to a level that you feel meets your requirement for ‘decent’ survivability.
It’s only 3.50s or something to retrait. A good investment to find the build that suits you best.
Glass cannon in PvE is not viable in dungeons get torn apart in later dungeon although if you only run AC/TA should be fine.
well i have 1800 toughness but your armor is better than mine lol
Lick wounds just needs to work when activated that is all no increasing or decreasing the healing just heal me when I tell you lol.
Thats pretty good mind posting the exact gear lol? Seems a bit better than mine
As a ranger it seems noticeably obvious that canines (esp Krytan Drakehound) has a much more responsive F2. Maybe Anet could look into that? I also sometimes use just a Flesh Golem and it definitely has pathing issues even though I have just it and maybe a jagged horror out. Obviously I think having them auto attack things is part of their playstyle (just like GW1) but they were more expendable in GW1 so maybe adding some sort of retreat/attack general commands might help.
I think minions also need a way to get out of AoE because as a taking up a utility skill slot and then dying whenever there is AoE (especially the golem) it hurts the necro quite a bit. This is also an issue with ranger pets. I think actually programming this might be too difficult and a 50% damage reduction to pets might make a better difference and would be easier.
Ok so I am a prec/crit/power ranger and I am an avid longbow fan. I know in long range standing still the longbow does have good DPS but you are rarely put into such a situation. I only have a couple suggestions for the longbow which would make it more viable both in PvP and PvE and seems to fit into the vision Anet has for the longbow ranger.
1. Make the auto-attack a chain that allows you to maintain 5 stacks vulnerability. Basically the longbow is a long range weapon but currently it needs to be a little more expansive in usage rather than 1500 range standing still. I think adding a chain auto attack that allows you to stack 5s vulnerability(meaning 5% more damage) would allow a more expansive usage so that mid-long range you could continuously use the vulnerability making it a viable weapon in both PvE and PvP.
2. Point blank shot is great as it functions now but only in the intended range. I think its great as I can interrupt attacks and push back foes. The only problem is that the range is limited and if I am standing more than 600 range away it has no effect. I think there should still be an effect because as a longbow user I try to create distance between myself and the target and the pushback comes in handy but when I am standing past 600 range the 4 skill is useless. One of our 5 skills are completely useless doing no damage/effect what so ever. 20% of our attacking skills are gone which needs to be changed. I suggest we either have a hold to shoot type attack that has more damage the longer you hold it would work but I think a better alternative would be that the point blank shot still is in effect up to 600 range but past 600 range it should just daze the foe. That way the moment of clarity trait would be equal for both the shortbow and longbow increasing its duration 50%. With the shortbow and concussion shot you get a daze automatically that has 1200 range and can interrupt giving you an attack of opportunity. Point blank shot does the same thing but only 600 range. Doesn’t seem to fit with a longbow which is SUPPOSED to be for more long range play. That is why adding the daze past 600 gives us a 1200 interrupt just like shortbow giving both longbow and shortbow users an equal attack of opportunity.
Those are just the suggestions I have which I think are just minor tweaks to really fit into the long range style of the longbow that Anet seems to have envisioned. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Rangers definitely are not as bad as all the complainers say but Agadar was right in saying certain mechanics do need to be tweaked. Pets now hit much more consistently but their AI suck and AoE is the bane of their existence. As a level 80 ranger I can tell you that my damage is not as bad as everyone complains about in fact as a crit ranger I think I do quite a bit more damage than some of the other people I am playing with. My survivability (if you dont go glass cannon) is actually quite nice because we have moderate toughness and vitality. Our pets contrary to popular belief do in fact help towards are DPS especially birds. The F2 skill might be buggy at times but I found for canines F2 skill works amazingly. Krytan Drakehounds hit for quite a bit of damage. Overall the Ranger is much better after this dec.14 patch and is a great class to play.
I find it hard to accept the ‘player refuses to micro manage pet’ argument, sorry it just does not hold water. As it stands now the most efficient use of pet swap is melee range.
Today as a ranged Ranger I actually move into melee range of my foe before I swap, kid you not that is what the mechanic has conditioned me to do!
I love the 2 sec of quickness for my pet as F2 abilities are 50%, well, quicker! Since quickness is 2sec and I play ranged, unless my ranger is on-top of the target Quickness is wasted.
So sorry, but saying ‘what if pet chased a target’ pets DO NOT CHASE you sent it chasing that target, it was YOU!
I am a ranged ranger as well and I usually switch my pet because
1. I get 2 secs of quickness whether I be rezzing/attacking it helps regardless because you double your speed for 2 seconds.
2. Sometimes my pet is getting scraped such as boss AoE so why would I want my switched pet to be in the SAME position I didn’t want my other pet in?
3. Idk if you have done exp dungeons but sometimes when you need to run past a mob I send my pet to aggro and then run past and switch so my pet is right next to me so that my old pet doesn’t draw the aggro to me. The mechanic is fine because you switch not only to attack with a new pet but to get your old pet out of danger.
Micro manage your pet, swapping as a way to by pass content is not a valid argument. Unless the designers intended swapping to be a means to bypass content then that is another story, I just don’t buy it!
In any case that dose not address the preference to melee aspect of the mechanic. Even if we assume it was the design intent swapping as a means to bypass content it heavily favors melee -bunker- ranger simply because of the F2 pet abilities being 100% hit as melee and much lower for a ranged ranger.
Ok so when you do a dungeon like SE exp or CoF exp do you literally fight every single mob? Have you done any dungeons at all? On TA do you fight every nightmare court mob and vine mob?
And secondly you did not address my second point. What happens if my pet is getting scraped and I want to switch it so it doesn’t keep getting attacked in its current position? I switch it and it currently ends up right next to me so that it doesn’t die which I like very much.
And I don’t understand the last part of your argument. How does it currently favor melee rangers or even ranged rangers? It favors no one. If I am a melee ranger and I switch I get quickness and my new pet is right next to me attacking. If I am a melee ranger about to die I evade back and switch pets ends it up right next to me safe and sound as am I. If I am a ranged ranger and it is dying I switch it right next to me to not die. It works very well for all types of rangers.
Your logic suggests in the above arguments that if I was a melee ranger at close range about to die I dodge and evade back to safety and switch my pet but oh no my pet is where my old pet was still getting attacked and now dies! If I was a ranged ranger and my pet is getting hit hard and I switch it my pet is exactly back where it was getting owned in the first place. Why on earth would I switch my pet to be BACK into a dangerous situation immediately.

Norn has those shape shifting ones and the snow leopard one is actually really good as are the others depending on your build. Norn racial skills are meant more for gs/sw/axe rangers but the owl one is actually pretty good for rangers. I use that while im roaming PvE stacks bleed and hits hard and I think its better than SS.

In this game pets would be OP if they were any harder to kill.
Did you ever do an explorable dungeon?…
Lol yea I gotta ask have you ever done an explorable dungeon? Pets die in 10 seconds from bosses AoE not talking about regular mobs. BM works though if you play like shortbow/sword+warhorn or GS. Ideally use birds/Moas for the blind/bleed/chill and buffs constantly switch pets too but regardless when you get to a boss in a dungeon the AoE will destroy it. Best suggestion is to use a ranged pet at bosses like spider for survivability and immobilize. Pets are not as terrible as most people say they now hit moving targets much better and DPS from pets isn’t terrible(my bear hits for around 350-400 and its my lowest damage pet) add that to my 1200 crits from longbow hits decently hard especially if I had more than 10 points in BM. My complaint for pets arises at how easily they die especially from AoE esp bosses. Need to really reduce AoE damage by 50%. I don’t mind if my pet gets targeted by 5 guys and dies because it did its job in tanking for a little bit giving my team more time to kill the mob but when one boss AoE kills it kinda sucks.
Nah you want the most damage out of your bleeds because in dungeons just about every other class can stack bleeds and what not so your duration doesnt matter its the amount of damage you do before you hit the cap that matters.
Ok so first problem here is that your complete glass cannon. In AC it might work and TA too but other dungeons not really. Im guessing your a power/prec/crit ranger. I am too and I play 20/30/10/0/10. Your crit chance is 53% mine is 51% with longbow and 53% with shortbow. I use knights gear with knights rings and rest of my accessories rampager’s. Your armor should be power/prec/toughness. I have 1894 toughness and same precision as you. I feel toughness is better for this build because I already specced toughness with wilderness survival. Obviously there are many variations and if you wanna go vita you can but you need to get either vita/toughness on you asap. Make up whatever power/prec you lose in your armor with accessories but get toughness/vita in your accessories too.
Long story short glass cannon is terrible in PvE contrary to what some say about any build is viable in PvE it is NOT and is very easily discernible when some one is full glass cannon making the dungeon much harder than it needs to be.
Is there any armor type that is +precision +power +toughness? Im gonna hit 80 soon and want those stats. Any exotics or anything have that? I’ve seen precision power condition damage but i want the toughness. And what runes should a precision/crit/power ranger have?
sorrows furnace is pretty active during the daytime PST and even at night not every waypoint is contested
so this bug has been around since like october any word from Anet?
I play a power/precision/crit ranger and I use longbow and shortbow. The longbow excels at range and does outdamage the shortbow at long range. Especially when traited. I basically use longbow as my pets take most of the aggro and then switch to shortbow as they come closer. Longbow helps in dungeons too providing good AoE cripple and 10 stacks of vulnerability. Again though if your in close quarters shortbow is much better with mobility and kiting.
Although I think Anet is going to have to add something a little more to the longbow such as a 3 stacksvulnerability every 2-3 hits like a chain or something making it truly the power/precision weapon its meant to be vs the shortbow which is pure conditions
1. So the first bug is with this penetrating ring of the berserker I got from one of my storyline quests. It had an ornate ruby jewel in it that gave it stats. So when I equipped it I looked at it and there was no ornate ruby jewel on it but instead an unused upgrade slot. I then checked the stats it gave me and it only gave me the base stats of +25 precision and none of the stats of the ornate rube jewel. And it even only says Penetrating ring. But when I shiftclick it and show it in the chat bar it says penetrating ring but when you scroll over to see it the tooltip(or whatever that box that appears when you scroll over it) it says penetrating ring of the berserker with the ornate ruby jewel.
2.When I tried to screenshot this bug I shift+clicked and scrolled over it in the chat bar so it shows the item and my currently equipped rings together. I took a screenshot but when I looked at it all the tooltips were gone even the one that I tried to scroll over. I thought I messed up and I took 2 more screenshots with the tooltips but both of them never showed the tooltips.
I'd rather have reanimator disabled until a fix is ready.

I think minions need a total overhaul should be able to stand alone against other builds atleast in a PvE aspect maybe not so much for PvP but def should be extremely viable in PvP. Still 11 seconds of what exactly? How much does this 11 seconds help us? I think just about ANY other minor trait is more helpful.
Increased projectile speed and 25% SoH speed? Where do I sign? This would already be a huge step forwards, even without any other changes. But do keep in mind he mentioned PROJECTILE speed, not attack speed, so unless they make additional changes it shouldn’t affect weapon damage, only probability of hitting moving targets.
Well projectile speed means the arrows get to the target faster than they did before so your hitting the target at a faster rate increasing DPS. I think ANet should clear this up so they don’t have unnecessary backlash.
So I read that the recent update isn’t allow us rangers to have multiple traps out. Like If I have 3 utility traps and lay three out and then my flame trap recharges I wont have 2 flame traps set? Why is this? This isn’t game breaking and there is a time limit on traps so why is this not allowed? This isn’t OP at all and very in the parameters of the game. Maybe I’m understanding this wrong can some one explain?
I personally believe that there’s been a gag order put on JP not to communicate with this forum until the next patch or until the powers that be pull that order. Anything he says will probably get flamed unless it’s an ETA with specific fixes that we have all been waiting for. He’s can do no right in this forum right now so why make things worse. Don’t go in and make things worse if you can’t definately make things better. We will not be hearing from him until after the next major Ranger patch, if there is one.
I think this guy is right cause a lot of us have been big kitten to him about the rangers. Yes I am a ranger and I totally think we are being shafted but they said they are working on a patch and now we play and wait for that patch. A bunch of people posted a kitten ton of threads saying we need you to communicate better etc etc and it just seemed like a bunch of whining. Yea I want longbows/shortbows to be fixed and the pets to be able to function properly but he’s not gonna reply on this thread simply because we kittenon him last time he came in here. Maybe if we are nicer and some one sends him a cake they will help us out. Necros used to have a million problems and now they are much better. Just wait till the next patch which didn’t some people say was on the fourteenth
The 1h sword is a great weopan. It can hit up to 3 targets and it cripples. Any ranger attemping to use a 1h sword should without exeption take auto attack off.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbNuv4T8J1I
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQ5f7iEEFZc&feature=plcpRanger should learn to master this weopan without auto attack.
Just beucase other class dont have to remove auto attack isnt a reason for a ranger not to remove it.
Nobody should learn how to master a weapon without auto attack just to make it viable. That is logically flawed.
^exactly.
Good suggestion and for the search and rescue ability I think it should be an instant rez.
This is true happens to me a lot too. I just gotta wait for the recharge and i press rez me again.
In order for signet of stone to be decent you HAVE to put 30 points into Marksmanship.. We are pigeon holed into that to make our signets worth anything. Signet of stone without 30 points in power is not that good IMO.
If you don’t plan on traiting into them don’t use them, simple as that.
Signets have a passive that are supposed to be useful even when NOT traited. Whole point of the passive effect.
Signet of stone has a good active only if you have 30 in marksmanship also. Signet of renewal I think should remove a condition every 5 secs.
I think signets overall should have a lower cd and better actives if your not gonna improve the pet. Whats the use of my pet hitting for more damage but it can’t hit moving targets and such.
Im on sorrows furnace and I think the mid level zones are empty as hell. Obviously the dragon events will not be empty but in general play maps like Iron Marches, Lornar’s Pass, Dredgehaunt Cliffs are dead. The starter zones are decently populated but there is obviously a strong drop off as players have leveled but taking everything into account I still feel that at least my server there seems to be a drop off in the number of players we have playing. The number of people doing exp dungeons seems to have dropped as you used to be able to be in the map and find a group to play with now LA is the better choice to find players. Overall I think there is a drop off due mainly to the bugs still persistent with many classes (Necro, Ranger, etc.) I think a small combination of servers should be necessary or have overflow servers for all PvE and only have servers for PvP.
I find it handy, especially when I’m fighting multiple mobs at once. The extra 20 toughness (Protection of the Horde, even for just a couple seconds) is really handy and it draws fire from you.
When doing 1v1s, it’s useless, but in your typical PvE environment, it’s actually quite a handy trait.
Im positive jagged horrors don’t count toward that trait. And even if it did, +20 toughness for 2 seconds isn’t really that good lol
I typically get about 20 seconds or so out of a jagged horror in PvE (I don’t have minion health specced) if the enemies don’t focus it (and if they do, I’m taking that much less damage anyway). I’ll have to double-check the interaction with Protection of the Horde, but I’m pretty sure it works.
20 seconds out of jagged horrors??? You must have some awesome jagged horrors they die way faster for me I honestly don’t even pay attention to them and its a waste of a minor trait slot. Really shouldn’t have a minion cap and degenerative health.
My suggestion is that for enemies whenever they use a skill we can see them using it just like in GW1 where you could see them casting a spell or whatever skill etc etc. I mainly think this is beneficial just because I understand we are to depend on visual cues and such but I play on low graphics and sometimes in huge DEs or in dungeons with a lot going on its hard to know exactly when to dodge just because I can’t see the animations. Obviously things like killshot for warriors and ones with obvious castings I can see (like the drakes fire breath and stuff) but for bosses especially when there are lots of people hitting them at once and lots of chaos I can’t see exactly what the boss is casting and when to dodge. Maybe even just a color change indicator might be helpful just to give a better visual cue especially to those not playing on higher graphic settings.
Oh yes we do. Some have reported success by going “all in” on vampirics.
This meaning siphon on crit, siphon on hit, siphon on wells, and as many vampiric sigils and runes as they can lay their hands on.
It is almost as if Anet is not aware of the kind of numbers direct damage can output.
So your telling me vampiric works? How about on a power build cause I wouldn’t use siphon on crit with low crit rate.
I have a level 40 necro and play D/D and staff and try using power builds. Works pretty well but when traiting especially into blood magic I want to use the vampiric traits but they just don’t seem to pack enough of a punch to really consider them. Even the dagger #2 it deals good damage but the healing is terrible. Does anyone else think Anet needs to look into vampirisim and the traits that follow making it a legitimate line that steals health viably?
So I have a warrior level 34 and am currently playing sword/shield I like the block mechanic by the shield allowing me to soak a little damage. I’m playing a precision warrior and am wanting my stats to look somewhat like 20-30-10-10 at level 80. My question is for dungeons and the such is a banner warrior really even that useful or is a shout warrior better? I use banner of defense and banner of discipline along so I get +toughness +vitality +precision and +critical damage %. Is this any good or even useful in dungeons or is shout warriors the way to go with FoJ, OMM and such.
oh and also is healing signet or mending a better heal for warriors? I use healing signet because with signet of rage and one other I get +120 precision from the trait. Is this worth it or no.
