These kinds of threads’ purpose is pretty insulting to the development team. QA work is grueling and difficult, and no matter how many hours are put in or what great tools you have, bugs still exist. Consumers have no idea what truly goes in to effective testing (and each development house is totally different, of course …).
I don’t know what processes ANet uses. I assume they have unit testing, rigorous automated testing, functional testing, (system) integration testing, usability testing, and user acceptance testing. The last two are generally not technical endeavors (although they’re frequently done by technical people) as much as they are product ownership or UX tasks.
Inevitably, things will be missed during all of these processes, no matter how much money or man-hours you fling at code. With GW2, we have been very fortunate that very few game-breaking or data-damaging defects have made it into production. There’s another popular fantasy MMO that launched about a year ago that had to roll back nearly a week of its entire user base due to that kind of critical bug. We are lucky to have not seen the same kind of defects.
I see GW2 as being enormously successful on the QA front for the level of complexity of this application. And that QA staff in general receive so few plaudits for their work, I wanted to jump in to this thread not as a white knight, but as a product manager who has seen what poor QA work looks like in other software development houses. This is not one of those.
. . . yes, because it is so much better to be impolite and treat people like crap, dismiss others because they like what you don’t, and be terrible to other human beings. Just so you can score points on others.
I love the human race.
At least it’s one handy thread if we get a forum ignore feature. I don’t mind disagreement or debate, but I would love to filter the children out so the adults can have a conversation.
The sit-in lives on in Rata Sum – I saw poor Moto tearing up the other day from the amazing outpouring of community support.
’tis truly a wondrous time to love Super Adventure Box and show it.
So you are blaming the DDoS on a SAB fan based off of what? The person/people who have been DDoSing have also been doing it to other game servers this week as well. Even if it was a SAB fan, you cant really believe that it reflects on everyone?
sigh…
It seems kind of obvious that those posts were mistakenly merged into this thread by a moderator, or misposted by the authors. There were a lot of anti-DDOS threads that’re gone now.
Just gonna say it.
S. A. B. Fractal.

I also bought an Infinite Coin to show support for SAB and to play the hell out of it when it existed. Not bringing back SAB in any form would be really a poor move on the product roadmap.
Not a slam on Anet – just software in general… that graphic explains the gravitation of today’s software to mediocrity.
That is a profoundly unrealistic statement.
As a product manager for another software company, I think it was nice of Bobby to try explaining this – most end users (customers) do not understand development.
Here are your three choices:
1. Fast and high quality: very expensive
2. Fast and inexpensive: low quality
3. High quality and inexpensive: very long time
Given that this user base largely is not paying for ongoing development (argue if you like; you most certainly have gotten your $60 worth), #1 is out. No one would want to play the game if #2 was their development route. Leaves us with #3.
The 2- and 4-week sprints we’ve seen in the past nearly 2 years have made me enormously satisfied with ANet’s content delivery. If you’ve got complaints, look around at software companies that aren’t doing it right.
The solaria/lunaria infused rings were screwed up and fixed; the celestial back seems to have the wrong stats, too.
Maybe you and I are the only ones with celestial backpieces?
I like Bifrost a lot
Still, not dumping on this thread, fly free! Just wanted to point out I’m very happy with the “rainbow lollipop,” myself.
No.
Next topic?
ooooh noo…
I couldn’t in good conscience quote so much offense to English, so SNIP it is.
I used the gems earned by hitting 10k achievement points to buy a very cool vanity item. It’s an awesome, fun toy that cost me (personally) nothing. Other people are smart enough to decide if they want to buy things from ANet or not, but the gem store is how they are able to continue funding all of those salaries for teams to build stuff. Feel free not to buy anything ever until your demands are met – and find another game, since they’ll close shop if they can’t make any money.
Keep your derailing out of this – a happy, bubbly thread about the joy of bobbleheads!
Now that’s how you make money in the gem store. Loving the Bobblehead Laboratory. Best use of gems in a long time.
I run 50s near-daily with LFG and rarely have issues regardless of group composition. My guild has a strong “bring the player, not the class” philosophy and I think it serves us well. I’d rather have 4 other attentive light armor-wearers than sleepy mcgoo grab-baggers tryin’ to 1111111 their way through content. Some professions & builds increase overall efficiency, but it’s a matter of 4-5 minutes’ savings in the long run. I’d rather a slightly longer run with interesting, good players than to shave those extra minutes by only allowing a specific group composition.
That being said, fractals at 50 do somewhat self-select. You need a lot of money, time, or dedication to get sufficient AR.
If you’re alert and situationally flexible, and know when to swap in an obscure utility skill to really speed up an encounter, you are the best addition to the party regardless of profession and spec.
(And my last advice to you or anyone for fractals – please communicate. If you don’t know how to do something, have to wheel your grandma out of the bathtub, whatever; hit the ol’ /p and share with your temporary fractally friends, eh?)
We don’t recruit often, but when we do, people hang on our every word – even the prepositions. When we pick up quest breadcrumbs, we use them to make beer. We once had an awkward moment with Lyssa’s twin, just to see how it felt. We can play Monks in Guild Wars 2. NPCs come to us for quests. We are… The Game’s Most Interesting Guild.
Hello players. Look at your guild, then back to us. Now back to them. Now back to us. Sadly, your guild isn’t The U, but if you’re over 18 and drop an app with us, it could be. Look down – back up. Where are you? You’re in a drunken, pantsless run through Lion’s Arch with the guild your guild could be. Look at your hand – back at me. I have it – it’s your mouse, and you’re clicking this link to check us out. Look again – that website is now full of photos of your favorite celebrity naked. Anything is possible when you roll with The U. I’m in an Asuran Battlesuit.
Our guild hall smells of rich mahogany. We are kind of a big deal. Come cannonball in the pool of glory with us today.
Stay classy Tyria!
Vexon,
Welcome back!
If you’re interested in an adult, respectful gaming community that spans more than just GW2, I hope you’ll consider checking us out: www.unrepentantgaming.com. In GW2, we dabble in everything, with weekly guild event runs, dungeons and wvw, pvp, fractals, you name it! We have a rigorous application process to weed out trolls and immature folks. If you find yourself no longer interested in GW2, we have branches in pretty much every MMO out there.
Check out our site (above), or send me a message in-game for more.
Two days of 50, only 1 person saw a box drop in two different groups. It’d be nice if they published the original, bugged, and current “fixed” % rates just to confirm the bug was addressed. We’re a less-than-trusting bunch after what happened with Fractals.
Trying to get a 50 going right now to test these hypothetical patch notes!
I’m just a poor plant, nobody loves me.
He’s just a poor plant from a poor Pale Tree,
Spare him his life from this Risen Monstrosity.
I use the Dreamthistle Staff skin on an ascended staff. Looks great, works fine, same stats as Bifrost. I’ve got Bifrost on my elementalist where it definitely “fits” better.
I just answered, although you didn’t have Celestial available for the Back slot (Yakkington’s Tale).
“Well, sir, there’s nothing on Kryta like a genuine, bona fide, electrified, six-car Super Adventure Box! What’d I say?”
World-changing, life-affirming content, yes! You’re half-right – Super Adventure Box is all that and more! The kind of update that puts a kick in your step, vim in your vinegar, and restores faith in that good ol’ Asuran ingenuity!
Let’s face it, these are trying times. Capital city? Destroyed. Dragons? Probably about to rampage and immolate us all. What can be more important than the revival of Super Adventure Box, if only to diminish these anxieties?
To quote, then, my good friend Azure – and I quote verbatim – “More Super Adventure Box, please!” Tomorrow will be too late!
Nada? I perhaps self-moderated when saying “frustrating.” There are more torturous words in English I could use, but I figured this is a family forum. This issue persists near-daily. It’d be great if someone had a few minutes to peruse the crash log attached to at least get me started troubleshooting on my own.
April has come and gone, and Moto has yet to open his box of amazing fun and excitement to a weary Tyria.
At least crack it open so we can replay Worlds 1 & 2! I don’t know how much longer life will have meaning in a world without Super Adventure Box. Everything is already fading to grey dullness …
Rather frequently lately my client has crashed to desktop during the Tequatl fight. Since I usually sit for 1-2 hours beforehand to make sure I’m part of a multi-guild server attempt, this is frustrating.
I’ve got today’s crash log as well. The audio usually glitches hard during the crash; today it looped a sound effect infinitely.

It seems that the personality portion of the Hero panel is gone (Charm, Dignity, Ferocity)? Conversation choices show up, but the widget is gone. No mention in patch notes, either.
The wiki says “appears to have been removed” as well.
I have yet to see this fixed. The Support team simply says “this is a bug and we have no timeframe.” Also, I’ve been back and forth between different agents constantly, with no persistent understanding of the bug. When I’ve been escalated, I’m returned to the “it’s a bug” answer.
This is unacceptable. I’ll spend the time to relevel if I have to, but not the money at current market values.
So … this evening’s post-reset Taco attempt was a disaster. It had nothing to do with the amazing team of folks who make it happen daily. We were defeated by:
1. Skill lag. People standing around hammering a button for 10-15 seconds prior to the skill casting.
2. Quest timers off. Laser phase start & end were not in sync with the HUD.
3. Underwater whirlpool during phase 1. What?!
4. Laser “stun” phase lasting 5 seconds. With the timers off, we even ran in early to try making up for the server timing problem, he landed, 5 seconds later, he AOE-stomped the DPS pile.
This is a popular server event and people generally have to wait 2 hours or more. Two hours! We sit and wait and wait, then sit and wait some more. I don’t mind failing if we mess up, but that has not happened in weeks.
Aboms spawning inside the laser? Nasty bug. Server not synchronized with the fight & everyone in the zone? That’s about as frustrating a bug as you can encounter. Since it takes a giant number of people to succeed at this fight, there’s no excuse for server-side problems like this.
Seriously irritated and disappointed.
This same bug happened to me about 5 minutes ago. I’ve filed an in-game report and am wondering how long it took them to restore your skill(s) and recipes? With the crafting economy as it is, there is zero chance I will redo 0-400, and I’m expecting they’d fix it quickly.
WhirlingDerBing,
We’re always looking for relaxed, interesting, and mature folks! The Unrepentant is a multi-gaming community with branches in plenty of MMOs, and we are a fairly active branch in GW2 on Stormbluff. You can look me up in-game if you have questions, but if you’re still looking around, check out our forum to see if our philosophy jives with yours. We do have a fairly rigorous app process (that is, lots of people from many of our branches will ask you questions to get to know you), but if you’re looking for a laid-back home of classy, respectful dudes and dudettes, check us out! (The link below is to our FAQs, including guild rules and stuff)
I didn’t want to duplicate or promote a thread, but I’m curious if the original thread was in the wrong forum and therefore being ignored?
The Bifrost footfall effect remains the same as it did pre-patch. No current owners asked could state it had been updated, no videos exist from the customer base showing a differentiation, etc. In fact, here are two videos (pre- and post-patch) that demonstrate the same effect (increase to HD on each):
Pre-patch – January 2013
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwK62UgtqS0
Post-patch – a few days ago
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dk0j-AsYSis
In addition, the pre-patch video above seems to be the same skin post-patch, but I’m finding it near-impossible to actually reference the skins and changes reliably without motion or other interference (particularly from the visual effects).
Other thread for reference:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Bifrost-footfalls-not-changed/
I haven’t found any pictures or videos demonstrating that Bifrost properly has the new footfalls. I have also maxed all of the graphic settings just in case it was being constrained by running a lower shadow rate (it wasn’t). The skin is different – that’s more clear when the settings are maxed – but the same footfall effect is happening in a solo zone with no culling or large amounts of other polygonal clutter.
I can confirm that Bifrost’s footfalls have not been changed unless there’s some graphics setting that needs to be enabled or at a certain level to see the new effects.
(The skin seems pretty similar too, but I’m guessing my mind is just playing tricks on me).
I don’t think it’s whiny or such to ask for it to work better – we worked hard for these sticks and don’t have 20-second patches of flowers or rainbow horseshoes following us.
With alpha and poly restrictions in mind, I’ve only seen my interest come up a handful of times here, yet it’d work great with the limitations. While I’m not a huge fan of the other races’ afros, the mushroom hair was a very cool idea and unexpected as I browsed through the list. Fungus isn’t really living plant tissue, so why not consider other materials beyond leaves and bark? Flowers have been pushed a lot so far with good reason, but how about fruit?
Small grapes (and berries) could substitute nicely for a “curly” hairstyle. Tangled vines could have a few fruit as “accessory” objects (like braided hair having beads tying off the ends). Chili peppers are fruits, too and have a nice thin, long shape that could provide some contrasting style(s). Berries can cluster, or cascade down attached to bushy leaves.
An auxiliary suggestion would be ivy. I’m such a bad visual artist that anything I put to pencil would probably come out as a squiggle, but I love considering these ideas together and reading some great suggestions so far.
I was working on Liadri on Friday or Saturday (2-3 attempts) and failed. Took a break to hang out with the little lady then came back today to find I have no longer beaten Strugar and Chomper.
I can beat ‘em again certainly, but I’ll be wasting tickets again doing so. Nothing changed on my end but the slow inexorable march towards the inevitable heat death of the universe.
overview of the new runes and sigils
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/jubilee/New-runes-sigils-1/2568146
The two threads have been merged, namaste.
Pro-tip: Sigil recipes are cheaper, yes?
Why is that a “Pro-tip”? Sigils and Runes serve different purposes. It’s not as though by buying a Sigil you will get the same benefits as the Rune Set.
In the context of me suggesting people buy the recipes to find out this info, I was saying it’d be cheap to buy those recipes and tell us what they do, not that sigils and runes were co-committal.
It’s a little expensive, but someone should buy sprockets on the TP and get the other recipes – if we all work together we can figure it out quickly. I could also do artificer but lunch is calling. If no one has done it by then, I guess I’ll shell out the money. Grumble.
Other interested parties – please help out? Then post the tradeskill, rune effects, and materials like I just did?
Pro-tip: Sigil recipes are cheaper, yes?

Still looking for a NA server with open Balth – I can help if you’re working up the quest chain, too.
Any NA servers open or doing the chain? Happy to help if I can burn up all this karma for more Clovers.
Bored this holiday weekend? Send me a tell if you’re looking for a guild and understood anything from my initial post!
I forgot to mention the cookies, I see.
Did I mention the free warm cookies?
- And last but not least, we use no Latin words that sound cool, but have no idea what the hell they mean.
To be fair, I reserve the right to use cool-sounding Latin words, but only because I know what they mean.
Omnis vincit crustulae!
You’ve seen your share of carnage. Standing in a sanguine pool, eternally, your visage focuses skyward and is met by the wanton pale disc of mankind’s lunacy – hark! Steel yourself for the dawn to come, clammy, goosefleshed skin cool in the evening wind. Why? You’ve asked yourself precisely six times. Why, indeed? Because there are no pants.
Yes, the Unrepentant Gaming community welcomes you to enjoy tales of derring-do, beverages of derring-do, and dirigibles of don’ting dare. While the Guild Wars 2 community ages like a graceful cheese in equatorial humid summer, one guild has the foundation to persevere and thrive through keg brawling, fractalling, wubwubing, jump-puzzling, another item in a listing, dunjonning, and more.
Even better, our community reaches tendril-like into a few other choice games as well. Nameless they will remain in this post, but sure as “moist” describes good chocolate cake, you can find plenty of information foisted upon your eyes by traveling the electric sheep trail to the house of Uey.
We appear in Tyria on Stormbluff Isle on the third day of each harvest moon coated in chicken feathers and stale Norn ale. Our app process is in-friggin’-tense – we seek the highest quality adult-minded doods and doodettes who are funloving, down-to-earth, tolerant and respectful to their fellows. Your journey will be short and intense. Find us you must, for the sake of your very soul.
See what all the fuss is about. Run, don’t walk. Cruise for a bruise. Unrepent, for the End is nigh. You will find a strong, awesome home in the dark recesses of the Internet, or madness will take hold of your mind as you’re gently ushered away to the uncaring void of other guilds.
It seems you have only one clear option.
