What if I don’t play for a month?

The clock makes a fatality. Flawless victory!!

I don’t want to feel like I’m forced to play. It feels more like a job than a game. And I don’t like. Don’t like at all. Other people may like the feeling. And of course it’s okay, and great if they like it. But for me… big no.

Well, grinding is a chore, so don’t expect having too much fun in your quest.

I’m getting skill points regurarly doing the champ train in the Bazar.
And I’m doing the cuterace and the crystal collecting for the tokens when they’re up. (I want everything!! Hanyaa!) But in your case you can use the tokens for the scrolls.

But of course, even now I still enjoy doing the cuterace. (And not enjoyed doing the BB, at least zerging is, you know, mindless).

Anyways, Good Luck!!! Fighto!! Fighto!!

Oh, so those kinds of events are okay when the vast majority of the players won’t ever see them, but when the majority actually can see (and do) them it is bad?

You’re missing the point. Entirely. With prejuice. Now that I think about it… it’s admirable how much you missed the point. You must surely have special training in missing the point.

Anyways, the point is that in GW2 we’re racing againt’s the clock every single second of … well, everytime that we play the game. PVC. Players vs Clock.
You can do a race against the clock event sometimes… but EVERY SINGLE TIME?

“Can our valerous heroes grind enough content before the next update comes and destroy it forever making they miss the story of the game? Check that in the next, Guild Wars 2 the Tyranny of the Clock!!”

There’s a difference between sexy and ridiculous. Shirtless is one thing, a guy with a leather bra is another.

A guy with a leather bra isn’t sexy? C’mon.

But people, we need more armors. Anet should give us more armor. But they need to take it to the extreme!!
Skimpy armor, sexy like no one! Absolutly shameless!! Smoking hot!!!
And good old functional armor. But bigger and badder. Full of plates, enormous pauldrons that put Wow pauldrons to shame and make then cry alone in a corner, scary looking helmets, powerful looking armor.

Because sometimes I want to dress sexy. Or cute. And delight in my own sight. Laugh on the face on the reality and run adventuring being absolutly fabulous!!!

And sometimes I want to be a behemoth of steel, a mountain in the battlefield, a tank of medieval times, a Panzer Tiger of the fantasy realms, a menacing sight that inflict fear in my enemies!!!

Anet should give us the option to be both. AND TO THE EXTREME!!
(Plus, when we change we need those trasm stones from the gem shop, so anet wins too).

And don’t forget the option to let’s the player using armors from the other gender, for the preexistent ones.

And we’re done!! Everyone happy!!

Honestly, once I got the meta I never stepped again in the Pavillion.
I will do in the future, for the Gauntlet, but the Boss Blitz, no thanks.

Even when I get in an organized group and everything was going smoothy with most of gold attemps the toxicity was there.
Players calling names to anothers players.
“Scrubs” “Idiots upleveleds”
Even a guy started to whispering me because I said in the map chat that the event scaling was off, saying that I was the cause that the game was bad, that anet wasn’t it fault, that was my fault and the fault of players like me.
And then blocked me.
And then unblocked me, linked me a bunch of gold chest (as if that could prove that he’s and his uber leetness is better that me and the other “scrubs”) and blocked me again.

I play Guild Wars 2 to have fun and relax. The Pavillion is exactly the reverse.

Most times a new story part is on for two weeks or more and it usually takes less than an hour(Read posts about expansion and read how they think LS content is to short). Saying you don’t have time to play 1 hour in a two weeks period sounds fishy to me… Don’t wanna offend but to me it sounds more like ‘I got bored of the game and tried other games, but I return to GW2 since there is no better games but now I missed the story just becouse of that’. Sure I feel sorry for you guys who gets bored of the game comes back and has missed alot of the story. Though there is a pretty good recap in game now and you have http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Living_World_season_1 .

I hope that due time Anet will find a way for players to play an unrewarded Instance to play the old LS content alone or in groups. yes unrewarded, I feel sorry for players that have missed the story but the uniqe rewards are for the people who actually stay true to the game at that specific time.

So, people who take a break are traitors and don’t deserve content?
In fact, it’s the feeling that the “catch the carrot against timers” content gives.
So… guess that players like me are unwelcomed to this game and need to leave asap.
At least I’m glad that I refrained from buying gems lately.

But let’s say for IRL, a store decides to give out 500 of their last stuff to the first 500 costumers and after that you can never get it ever (If you don’t buy it on Ebay ofc). The store holds this event to get more people to visit the store and buy more products not just to be kind. What you want is that this store you have visited once should give you something the next time you visit the store just becouse you have been there and shopped before.

So saying traitor to the ones taking a break from the game is kinda harsh but I still don’t think players who don’t participate in “special events” deserve the “special stuff”.
Race against time or not, I like it that participants get stuff and people who is not playing miss out. It makes the stuff even more special and not everyone runs around with the same Greatsword all the time.
I have missed out on stuff too becouse I had RL issues to take care of and I wasn’t good enough to compleate Aetherblade retreat even once (Wich had me a little kittened since the story was locked behind a hard for me temporary dungeon). But I accept it, I didn’t do it so why should I have the stuff and as I said before I like it that it goes away so not everyone has it all… Remember during dragon festival when everyone ran around with holo-wings and shattarer wings but now not everyone has them so everyone is not running around with them.

I think players like you are very welcome, you are not hindered to enjoy any content that can be enjoyed at the moment. Just becouse you missed the cake doesn’t mean you are less welcome to the party.

One thing is a special event. Something like the Scourge Invasion pre-WotLK, or the attempt to re-take Gnomeran prior Cataclysm in WoW.
Those are rare one time events.

But in Guild Wars we have those “rare” one time events… every single day. EVERY SINGLE DAY.
It’s madness. And stressful. You must race against the clock every single moment that you’re playing.
You want to level you new alt? No, wait, you must be grinding or you gonna miss that achiev for the Living World. And after that there’s another for the next and after that… you get the idea.
GW2 is not PVE or PVP, it’s PVC, players vs Clock.

I people like it, great. If anet want to keep that way to do things, fine.
Just, want to them to say it clearly. “We gonna keep doing temporary content, and making our players race against the clock forever.”
So I can find another game to play. Wich is sad because I like the game, I love the artistic style, I love the “everyone together against the world” style of game… but the way of delivering content… I can’t stand that.

ANet give a taste of an evolving world and people go berserk.

The players didn’t ask for gear stat progression (well, some did, but it was a tiny, tiny minority even on forums). They asked for more endgame content, new zones, new skins (as well as raids, mounts and holy trinity). Anet decided to go that way on their own, barely two months in the game (less, if we consider that they had to start developing it some time before the November 11th patch).

Wrong.

You do not have access to Anet’s data, internal communications, or any such thing. Why would they make such an incredibly unpopular move on the basis of a few forum posts, then continue months later with ascended weapons and again with ascended armor?

If that were true, if Anet made changes to the game based on forum posts, the game would be completely different now. There would be no Living Story (most forum posts are against it) and an expansion would have already been announced, if not released. Every player would have a precursor if not a free Legendary given to them, and exotic gear would be as common as dirt. There would be tons of new weapon and armor skins, many new weapon types and skills and items like the infinite use tools would never rotate out of the gem shop.

They make decisions based on many things, and the reactions of the forum posters are barely considered at all. We are a tiny percentage of the player base, and the hardest to please. Given the ease with which posters can troll the forums, I would imagine most devs don’t consider the forums at all when creating new content or discussing future plans. About the only useful information that comes from here are bug reports.

I know no one will change their minds about this, but at least I know that all your complaining and demanding and pleading has no effect on the game.

I guess that then not buying gems and not playing are the other options to show that you’re displeased about how anet handle content.
But… how they know wich of the issues makes you not buying gems or what makes you stop playing?

“So, people who take a break are traitors and don’t deserve content?”

When you come back you have exactly the same content available to play as everyone else. Someone who logs on today can play the festival events and it doesn’t matter whether they have been away for 1 minute or 1 year, that’s the content.

Why do you feel the game owes you extra content? You haven’t been paying money for the time you weren’t there.

Well, with that attitude why I will bother in spending money.
They will use it to develop temporal content that I will be unable to enjoy.
It’s pretty stupid spending money to not do something.
Guess that’s not the game for me after all. Shame that I realized before spending money in it.

Kills with no Turrets. Kills with only melee attacks. Kills with only pets and minions. Kills with only white weapons. Kills with no armor.

Wrong. Tequatl was completely designed for casuals who know that they need to have some basic communication so that all of the mechanics of the fight are properly handled.

I want female armor that not only fully covers, but also does not show boobs in any way.

In particular heavy armor that does not have any breast-cups. Currently there’s not much choice in that regard.

Breastcups are totally unrealistic for heavy armor. You don’t need them as armor will just flatten those boobs. And it’s dangerous as they deflect blows and arrows right at your heart. All historical examples of women in platemail (for example, Jeane d’Arc) had them wear identical platemail as men do.

That is what I want for my characters. I’m female in real life but I play mostly male characters because I totally hate most of the female armor.

Phalanx Armor for men, so totally awesome.
And for women? Ugly helmet, ugly torso piece, ugly everything. So disappointing

Even Game of Thrones does it right, with heavily armored women like Brienne running around with platemail identical to male ones. THAT is the look I want for women!

They should make male armor weareable for females. That would solve you problem.

For me? No, I like fantasy armor. Skimpyness for everyone. Male, females, plants, everyone can have the choice to be sexy!!

This is just a state of mind. When you turn on the radio, you don’t worry about the thousand shows you missed across all the radio stations since yesterday. You turn on the radio to listen to the show that is on now. Treat your GW2 the same way. Log on and play the living story that is there now. A returning player has exactly the same content now as anyone else. Just like the radio, you don’t need to know what has gone before in order to enjoy what is there now.

There should be a story line recap for returning players. Comparing the storyline to Game of Thrones is a bit laughable though.

Not the same at all.
It’s more like watching a tv series and missing a few seasons.
You missed the story, maybe there even other characters, the flow is destroyed. The experience is ruined.
But with tv series you can marathon the seasons that you lost. Here, you can’t.

And let’s not talk about skins, minis and those.

Feels very punishing.

And it’s one of my biggest complains about the game. The feeling that you must hurry. Always hurry because the content will be lost forever. It’s stressful.
I do not play to stress, I play to relax and have fun.

GW2 needs shift to 'instanced' content

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: rincewind.9528

rincewind.9528

Basically it is the following.

Everything mmorpg players want, they don’t really want.

If you have an instanced game “we want a open world game”. Then they complain the game is not instanced base.

“We want harder content”. “We cant do it first time, too hard, big fail”.
“We want open world bosses and dungeons”. “Actually we want to control everyone that is in there, so private instance please”.

Different players want different things.

You have the hardcore player, who want organized harder content.
And you have the casual player who want open more laid back content.

You CAN’T please both at the same time.

The best compromise? Dunno. Guess that making instanced hard content and open nice content will please both. You can even make an easy instanced mode (LFR I’m looking to you).

You already have both content in GW2 no idea why people are against anything unless they want to change X content into what they want. Like harder organized content well you have Tequ and Wurm. More laid back content you have like 80% of the world boss events out there.

I was adressing Swoo.5079 issue.
Of course that always people will be displeased with content.
If they took Shadow Behemoth and make a Tequ 2.0 the hardcore players will be delighted. The casual players will rage.
If they took Tequ and nerf it again the hardcore players will rage. The casual will be doing it again and will be happy.
Best solution, make new content that please both. A new open world boss, with an instanced hard version.
Anet has the resourcess, ability and will to please both? I don’t know.

@Rincewind, so if everything was permanent, how would you have “destroyed LA” when you’d still be doing the fight?

How would you have Tower of Nightmare content, with also the Tower destroyed?

It’s a living world, like in real life you’ll miss out on events happening around you or far away. Doesn’t mean you won’t hear about what happened.

The other day I was helping a new member through Kessex Hills, and he’s like What happened here? So i started to tell him the story of the alliances, the kraits and their prophet, Scarlet.

I do find the temporary nature of some content to be pretty cool, people can say “I was there when LA was under attacked, I helped those survivors, and I killed Scarlet.”

Durr. Instancing. That how you do it.

If you like it, good. Glad that you enjoy it. But I’m not.
So we’re in irreconciliable stances. Anet will cater one of the stances. One side will be happy. The other will resign or leave the game.
Wich one will cater anet? We gonna see from July 1st onwards.

@conski
Working hard and being rewarded is good as long that player doesn’t think he/she now has the right to bully others with his/her new found item.
But that’s not what this thread is about.
The op expects anet to never rerelease items so the players that have said item can be part of some silly minority.
All players (new and old) should have the same opportunities as everyone else.

Then you’re back to the problem of content being temporary. Personally, I think to get the Living Story items you should have to complete the LS, not grind tokens in an arena or trade in mats for them.

How about making the LS permanent, so new players or one that missed it can complete it?

Do you all seriously believe there should not be ANY “you had to be there” items? Is that the only prestige-type Conski listed (limited time, high skill, expensive) that you think is bad? Or are either of the other two also unacceptable?

“You had to be there” content can work for special event. Very rare.
Like releasing a new expansion. You can get titles for participating in the event previous to the expansion.

But here the “you had to be there content” is like… two times a month. And you miss the story.
Yes, I’m very kittened for missing chuncks of the story.

1 – Nonsense. You can have all the mementos that you want. Other people having similar items doesn’t affect it.

2 – So, new players are undesirable?
I mean if you know that you will miss a lot of things for not playing since the beginning why start to play now?
Better start with other game that will let you to play all the content. Or at least most of all.
I’m not talking about a title. I’m talking about missing the story.

3- Skilled? You mean you bought the game earlier? Or that you never takes breaks from it?

You are apply my opinion on items in general specifically just to living story skins,

1. Player perception of an item is effected, if they know the item was a once off they know it’s a memento if it has been re-released it creates uncertainty and doubt as to how the item was acquired, I know I judge based off that logic at least.

2. Not quite sure how you pulled that from my point but no I think new players should always be flowing into the game, Odd every MMO in existance works like that and people still seem to play it (item wise) as for story events I’ve seen Warframe and Eve online manage story progression in a non permanent content manner just fine.

I’ve never joined an MMO new or old and expected access to everything or everything to be there for me and I think it would be a silly expectation to hamstring a story or item reward for the existing player base just for new players who can read up.

3. Taken out of context, as is clearly stated in the first sentence I would like guildwars to emulate they are not currently doing so, ideally we’re talking obtained after obscure hard to do boss fights or extremely difficult challenges I don’t like the pointless grind achievements any more than you do.

1 – Why? This is my item, there’s a lot of them, but this is mine. Why care about what the other thinks?
If that bother too much, just take an screenshot of the original achievment and showoff showing to all the neighbors that you were there.

2 – Well, I’m the oposite. When I buy a game I want to experience most of the content. Of course, If I missed a special gift for an anniversary or something like that something big and special, I missed it.
But in GW is insane. You can missed a ton of things. Like the story.
Because that I’m always on the fence between continue playing or leaving.
For now, I’m refraining from buying gems. Voting with your wallet. Besides, if I stop playing the money will be wasted.

3 – So, we agree… why are we arguing then?

GW2 needs shift to 'instanced' content

Anyway, if you want to play a game where you don’t have to try or apply yourself, that’s called a movie.

I guess I really enjoy the move they created and have let me watch for the last 2 years. I look forward to continuing to watch it.

Now, what they could do is revamp dungeons and fractals so that they are super hard and instanced, and you would have that to do, no? And maybe make ‘more’ dungeons and fractals which are instanced and hard and fun for you to do, right?

Why does that require the destruction of content and the philosophy of the open world that some of the rest of us enjoyed, and they seemed eager to provide us, for the last 2 years? Why does it have to be one or the other? I don’t begrudge you being given interesting and difficult content, why would content I enjoy need to be removed?

So you’re totally cool with auto-attacking all day long in a zerg? This is what you want the game to be? I’m sorry but it sounds to me like your idea of fun is just mindnumbingly boring and pointless. I would be all for this notion of catering to both sides, if Anet could actually pull it off. Honestly it doesn’t seem like they have time time or manpower to do so. Instead of a game packed with tons of content that one side can fully appreciate, we have a watered-down product that tries to cater to both sides. It’s like spreading not enough jelly over too much bread.

Then anet should make a clear statement of wich side will their please.
So the other side can leave and find a game suited to their tastes.

And I like to zerg. And I like to explore. I like to do the Dolyak cuterace. Heck, I even like to do some weird jumping like in the crystal finding (In little quotas!! Otherwise make me ragequit!!!).
But the Boss Blitz… was exiting to do a few times… after that it’s just boring.
And stressful. Hearing people cursing about upscales, telling people to not join them, saying that the others are idiots… meh.

Yeah, we maybe need to leave.
I like the game, but I don’t want the game to be the center of my universe.
Sorry for liking to do other things beside playing Guild Wars 2.

Better, stop with the running against the clock updates.
Make the content permanent.

I hate the sense of urgency. I like to play to relax not to stress because I need to complete content befere it’s gone forever.

@conski
Why do you need someone to know you acquired said item first?
That mentality is part of the problem.
Self gratification should be enough.

A hard question to answer completely , but I’ll give it a shot. (bare in mind that some of these may seem unrelated to the topic but fit into the mental image I have for Guildwars)

1. Because I believe that if you have been playing since the start of say Guildwars 1 it should count for something same from the start of Guildwars 2 and these items are ways of showing that experience and telling YOUR story. Not just another cheap item skin.

2. I don’t believe anyone in the game should be able to obtain every item, I dislike the “just a game” mentality people use to justify it and believe an MMO should be so grand scale with such a varied method for getting different items that you couldn’t hope to amass even a fraction of all the items you want (want not need), the variances in what items you have compared to another tell the story of the things you have done.

3. Because I’d like Guildwars to emulate the form of MMO seen in various media (.Hack , LogHorizon, Epic, Saga etc) Where theres the general population and they do their thing but there is also veterans and rare hunters who have items they haven’t even heard of. A world where there are extremely rare items with obscure and extremely difficult to complete requirements/conditions that give a feeling of satisfaction if you’re skilled enough to complete it.

1 – Nonsense. You can have all the mementos that you want. Other people having similar items doesn’t affect it.

Oh well, honestly I had hopes on playing without time pressure for a time.

I see that they will keep making this temporary content, but I hope that they do not pump it so frequently. I hate playing pressured by time restrictions.

“PLAY NOW. FAST! FAST! GOT THOSE ACHIEVS AND REWARDS OR YOU GONNA LOST IT FOREVER!!! DONT TAKE A BREAK OR YOU GONNA MISS THE STORY!!!”

But, I guess that I’m a minority here… in all aspects… maybe it’s just not the game for me.

Personally I like temporary content. Heh, I think I am in the minority, not you. My reasoning is that its like a festival (in this case it actually is), if you had the opportunity to be there then that’s great. If not then oh well, you missed your chance.

However if all ArenaNet releases is temp content then it becomes a pain, for sure. A great balance would be updates with a bit of both.

Also remember that you don’t NEED the achievements. Its just your OCD and/or perfectionist personality that demands it.

To the last paragraph… That’s why I said “Maybe it’s not the game for me” and because that maybe it’s better leave the game, this time for good.

We’ll see.
If they stick to the temporary content and running the temporary carrot FASTARRR I guess that will be time to leave.
That would be sad, because this game have some nice aspects.

GW2 needs shift to 'instanced' content

If you do not like the Living World then just ignore it. You can play all the permanent content at once as soon as after the season 2 is over in approx six months. In the meantime simply stay in the old content and do not touch the new permanent one.

In this way you will be happy and the LW fans will be too

No, that’s not an option. Down with the temporary content! Long live the permanent one!!

And god forbid you get made uncomfortable. It only women who should there to be ‘make your own kitten material’.
If your going to do skimpy at least make it so for both although at this point I would say some more armour that actually armour or covering on girls and skimpy on guys is due.
Personalty I want more elegant stuff and while I like the trench coats more that aren’t for medium without making them underboob or having fishnet slits down the kitten would be nice. The only one I want ‘skimpy’ medium armour for is my charr.
I wish they hadn’t put a boob window on the latest gem store one.

I’m not uncomfortable with male characters who expose their skin, fur or leaves. However, in contemporary fashion ‘revealing’ just does not work the same way for males.

Here’s an example that I hope doesn’t get me infracted, lol

Not fair! The male shirt is shorter!! That’s cheating!!

I actually like the this is set up, now it isn’t monster blob everything and spam 1 till it dies., then cycle through the Pavillion, like last year. Last year was terrible tbh for the people up on the second floor of the pavillion trying to do Liadri. Now it’s more spread and a little bit more coordination based. If you want 1 spam wars go to WvW for that or one of the world bosses not Teq or Wurm.

That’s another issue. The gauntlet should have been put in it’s own instance.

I’m still bothered for having missed entire chunck of the story. Those moments of “What the hell happened here?” or “Who are all those people and why they know me?”.
