playing starcraft gets you absolutely nothing (unless youre pro) and people still play it cuz its a good game
likewise playing counterstrike also gets you nothing but personal mad skillz
this games dungeons arent on the level of either of these games
SW2 isnt bugged out on release. SW2 Isn’t an MMO aimed at an MMO player base.
You just can’t compare this game to SW2, CS, marvel vs capcom, pacman….w/e!
It is proven through past success that the vertical progress and competition of collecting gear to stand out….is highly addicting and a lot more people like it than dont. This game just does not have the content at the moment to hook a playerbase that is full on exotics with nothing else to do but grind wvw/spvp
Did anyone REALLY expect anything different? All they did was take out the classic vertical progression grind….and replaced it with w/e grind they have now…which is much worse and players are getting bored of much quicker. Especially since most of the end game grind is broken.
Don’t even get me started on this whole “Our game will eliminate cookie cutter builds” garbage. It seems like each class has issues with their best builds and are settling for the least worst.
The devs really need to hurry up on class balance and bug fixes if they are going to keep peoples attention.
“Rewards as incentive is a community issue, not developer”
lol bottom line is… the customer pretty much chooses what developers develop. Thats how they stay in business. Thats how any company stays in business.
I don’t care what MMO it is… if the customer base as a whole is having valid complaints then they need to take that into serious consideration which it doesnt look like they are OR they are just taking their sweet time doing it… which is very dangerous with the short attention span of todays MMO gamer.
Great ideas…. problem is …. they are so backed up with bugged out content, class balance, exploits, bots, blah blah etc etc… By the time they actually get time to implement or even start looking into this issue/change most people will already be over the general crafting items and onto exotics.
In the long run I think one of the biggest hits to crafting was allowing players to max out every profession. It should have been limited to 2 and maybe added SLIGHT unique bonuses available only to the crafter. Nothing overpowering but …for example… if a cook can only make 30 min foods for other people then he can proc hour long duration foods that are soulbound. Or even on armor or weapon crafting you can proc soulbound higher quality versions of the intended piece.
I havent tested the drake but yes i have seen either my lynx or eagle hit for 4k. So it is not BS. I cant remember which and it was an F2.
Either way LB needs some work.
Ranger summed up by Selo: Rangers are fotm because they can shoot a long way and kite like most ranged classes do.
When in reality sb thieves and rifle wars probably do more dmg than lb rangers. lol
I’m just waiting for the buff. Other than LB damage the class is great. i tend to see more thieves than rangers but I guess its based on server or w/e….Either class seems to be lower pop than the others though. Dont play for todays pros and cons though…play what is fun and needed buffs will come.
Nothing is worse than rolling FOTM and you finally hit level cap only to have missed the FOTM train and you are now nerfed.
One bug i have noticed is if you hit the horns speed boost with mobs highlighted it will sick the pet as well as activate the buff.
I have a blast on my ranger. I am pure glass cannon pwr/precise/crit. If you play smart you do well. I play longbow because I enjoy it more than short but we are great at back line focus fire and wall def.
Once they fix longbow it will be a lot more fun.
Id like to see the option to purchase a bigger variety of gear in WvW. Such as glass cannon armor or condition armor…even a healing set for those that would like to focus more on support.
Maybe even a WvW based legendary would be cool that by default gave commander status. Obviously the grind for it would have to equal the time spent on current legendaries.
Set bonuses that give you bonuses related to WvW.
They aren’t going to explain how it works. Doing so would only provide a work around for bot makers.
Its a bad system that needs to be thought out.
i think most if not ALL people complaining about lack of “endgame” are the no-lifers who play too much.
and no game right now can deal with them.
i say they can quit.
come back later, the door will always be open.i have pity for them.
they really are the ones hurting themselves more.
and then saying the problem is the game? after like 300h in 3 weeks.anyway.
GW2 is amazing, huge, and perfectly fine for a gamer who will spend 15h a week in the game. (thats normal, right?)Such a cop out… This game should have been designed AND released with ALL of its customers in mind. This includes the “no lifers”. Everyone knew that people were going to rush to 80. Everyone knew there was going to be people competing for world firsts.
You can’t say that the hardcore community is too small to worry about either…its a rather large portion of the customer base…far to big to ignore and be successful.
Im guessing you aren’t at level cap and don’t see how truly broken and under developed/polished this game is.
Also …no one cares if you play 1 hour or 100 hours a week. They care about how much they play. A successful MMO will target all playstyles and 80 is very…very easy to get.
No mmorpg will ever be designed with “no lifers” in mind. No matter what devs do those people will always rush to the end and a lot of them will then turn around and say something along the lines of “reached level cap, nothing to do”. It never fails.
The whole tiered WvW is kept competitive largely by the hardcore community. A game doesn’t necessarily have to be designed for them but if that community becomes a large part of the customer pop then they need to listen to them and make adjustments.
Right now my biggest gripe is pretty much any activity at level 80. You don’t have much to do… You can zerg DE’s, pvp, and grind dungeons…. I dont include map exploration as it is a novelty/joke but even that is broken. Crafting? Try gathering mats without going broke on the TP because anti farm code in ORR is broken.
All of those activities are pretty much what a lot of wow haters are complaining about wow!!! Its all just a big grind lol. Not even that…its a broken grind.
Leveling too fast definitely isn’t the problem here and using other MMO releases isn’t a good example because most have done it wrong too. I can almost guarantee you that by the time the average MMO player hits 80 that they will not have any additional content out. They can’t. They’ll just have the current issues fixed which is still underwhelming. They have too many issues at the moment to even start thinking about adding more.
An mmo shouldn’t be released with a mindset like…. “well the first half is good… we’ll just play catch up with the content of levels 60+ later…”

Aion may not have done that well in the US/EU but its a very successful game in the East so you can drop that.
Aion was a great game. I can’t compare the game populations for different countries post release but the main issues with the NA/EU pop seemed the same. Class balance, end game content, and one of the biggest I remember was the lag in sieges.
Post release development. Its not enough to prepare. They have to react…and do it quickly….its an MMO killer. Add D3 to the list too and its not even an MMO…
GW2 needs to turn it around and do it in a hurry if they are going to retain their player base. Its starting to look like previous flopped MMO’s and people are becoming bored and disgruntled quickly.
Don’t give me the garbage “You should have enjoyed the game and played slower…”
Where do people get off telling other people how to play? Some people play for end game and some people play more casual. You cant force a community to play casual. You have to plan for all types of play styles and if it took another year of development and a subscription fee….I would have paid it and waited.
Either way…. IMO…the biggest test for the development team isn’t year 1 or year 5 etc… its the first 2-3 months of release. They have done pretty well with server issues but pretty horrible at testing end tier content (60+), class balance, and botting to name a few….
You obviously didn’t follow the devolopment of this game or did any research before hand. People telling you that are just passing on what ANET had planned. ‘Endgame starts at level 1’ ring a bell at all to you? In other words, if choose to rush, skipping over and ignoring basicly the entire game, that is on you. You honestly can’t complain there is no content when you ignore it all. Try going back, and actually playing the game, follow the storylines, help people along the way.
Not every game is or has to be a rush to level cap. If that is your playstyle, fine, there are way more than enough games to fullfill your style. And just because a game dares to take its own path, doesn’t mean it will not succeed.
There are plenty of us who enjoy this game, and plenty more who will adjust and discover the beauty of just playing and not mindless rushing for some carrot on a stick.
You see, the beauty of this game aside from the game itself, is it has no monthly sub. Therefore, if you bought it, it is yours. You can play it till your hearts content. Then go play something else, come back at your leisure and play it again. No sub fee binding you to keep coming back. No major gear grind that is REQUIRED to do the next set of content. (Which by the way keeps you bound to keep playing, because getting behind in those types of games can really set you back, and causes your friends to either go on without you or suck it up and put their goals on hold while you play the never ending catch up game.)
So, play, take a break, come back when they add new content updates, which they have said will be at no cost to you, so again you have nothing to lose. New expansions.
End game content? starting at level 1? lawl…
The system doesn’t match that statement.
This game is primarily pvp focused. The advantage of being 80 in WvW right now is huge. The best thing you can do for your server is get 80 and THEN queue.
Some people want to help and be involved with that. Some people want to be involved with that ASAP and then enjoy the stories/leveling with alts etc on down time.
About subscriptions?… its normally $15….thats NOTHING. I don’t mind paying it if I know its paying to hire employees to destroy bot populations and fix exploits/bugs in a much more timely manner…and do it accurately.
Thats not “wow kiddies” thats the new gen of players and the new gen of players needs to be fronted with a new gen of game development.
SWTOR, WAR, AION, AOC, ug…im not going to name ALL the flops but jfc…
None of those games, including this one, did not do very well (post release) on the important issues. They weren’t ready for them! Ill give GW2 credit they were initially pretty responsive but 60+ content is wrecked and I dont think they planned very well when it comes to smaller issues like, bots, economy problems, content bugs/exploits, graphics optimization, and class balance to name a few.
The new gen of player is not going to wait around for all these huge fixes. They’d rather wait for a finished product. If they don’t get it they will go right back to “Insert last MMO here”
They did promise branching events in multiple interviews.
They also talked about how cookie cutter builds would be a thing of the past and all that “horizontal” progression garbage…
The cookie cutter build comment made me seriously nervous. It’s ridiculous…cookie cutter builds will always be around and to think otherwise is a red flag from any development team. Stop trying too hard to reinvent the wheel.
GW2 needs to turn it around and do it in a hurry if they are going to retain their player base. Its starting to look like previous flopped MMO’s and people are becoming bored and disgruntled quickly.

As someone who walks across lava rocks…. I liked it.
