its really simple. really.
your team win, your MMR goes up.
your team lose, your MMR goes down.
Given that if you have an average or low mmr it seems to be largely a matter of luck as to whether you get a team you can beat or not that seems rather flawed at the moment and may result in a vicious circle for some who don’t deserve it.
About the same time it gets considered for arrow carts. ACs ability to reach spots they shouldn’t be able to is ridiculous ATM.
So those that are happy with the new matchmaking because you’re winning so many games – are you happy with the pvp matches in general? Are they competitive and keeping you interested in pvp?
For those that are losing or not making progress – are you happy with the new matchmaking? How long do you plan on playing and how much effort are you planning on putting forth this season?
I really don’t think this matchmaking is good, but I see some insisting that it’s going to work “long term.”
I’m one who has been stuck in the hell of ave mmr teams being repeatedly matched up against high mmr teams and its extremely disheartening. If it continues more than say 2 weeks I can’t see myself being motivated to continue.
And as the poster above stated no its not acceptable to consign lower ranked players to long losing streaks at the beginning of a season merely so higher ranked players can get streaks to get to a higher division more quickly. Either opposing teams should be chosen on the basis of mmr or players should be placed in their relevant division at the start of the season or they go back to the old 50% winrate selection.
Of course this messes with anets grindy achievement progression so change it. I guarantee that if this continues into even just next season that players will drop like flies. Who knows maybe the matchmaking won’t even improve for lower ranked players after say a week its only theoretical that it will.
Why the timegate? Cause the only way they have to try and keep players in the game is to make everything into a grind.
To be fair, Gaile did respond to this thread in about 20 minutes. Also, the hacker that the OP was talking about was banned within a day.
On the other hand, said hacker had been at it for a long time before that. Also, there’s this other guy who is widely known and has escaped justice for so long. It is puzzling, but it seems that things do get done on occasion.
The HOD hacker has another account that he is levelling up on FA he is boasting about it on the salt forums.
Still nothing on Search and Rescue.
you should monitor amulet with healing power it makes some classes stupidly tanky when it is useless to other classe.
I don’t really think any amulet should have 1000+ healing power.
Yes lets reduce build variety even further……………..
it is normal
Whats happening to some of us isn’t normal. I know how to rotate, play the secondary objectives etc. Almost every single match of my first night in the new season I got teamed with players who didn’t know those basics. Would prefer the old 50/50 matchmaking it wouldn’t be so frustrating.
Well, it’s more that we went from all Bunker to all Burst Meta and it’s even more “unfun” now. I have no clue why it’s so hard for the Devs to reel in the extremes? My tin foil hat say’s that balancing is more about what’s more entertaining for the Streaming Audience than fun for the player base.
My feeling is that most of the designers that worked on the classes for HOT have been moved to other projects leaving a much smaller number of staff working on ongoing balance. They are trying to balance by removing amulets which is very much a blunt object.
Needless to say that “you will always be matched with equally skilled player ‘because’ they will be in your same divisional tier” is also another trash logic that looks good on paper.
Doesn’t even look good on paper, I pointed out the problems with it when it was announced.
The OP is totally right about why people are mad but doesn’t go far enough with it. The reason people are actually mad is they think of themselves as great players but are in reality mediocre. The difference between expectations and reality is disappointment.
Nope I know I’m average, but I don’t even get teamed with players on my level. I continually got teamed with players who don’t know how to rotate, don’t know how to rez, don’t know how to stomp, don’t know how to play the secondary objectives.
What I will say, it must mean that the PvP is actually healthy at the moment but the question then becomes: If this experience is what we are giving new players out of the box, is it really an experience that they are going to come back to or after 10-15 losses will they just quit or go back to PvE.
Good post and this is really the salient point. Are wavering players really going to put up with this until it settles down and thats if it settles down. Heck my experience has been exactly as you described and it has me questioning whether its worth it.
