Idk guys wouldn’t this just make protection an even stronger boon? Could you imagine how well you could tank with a bunker spec if you didn’t have to worry as much about conditions when you could just go for protection uptime?

My frustration with the class isn’t that it’s a sustained damage class- actually I kinda like that part. It’s just that we’re a sustained damage, single target, that has some of that damage that comes from the pet, selfish in team fights, and we still don’t have the highest DPS even with all of those other struggles, type of class. I think we’re pretty fantastic at side point holding and a condi ranger used to be great at 2 v 1ing at home. Personally I think that’s gotten harder to do now but maybe its just me. I love my ranger and wouldn’t switch it but I think it’s a challenge to play it sometimes.

Yea I’ve wanted to try out shouts with those runes and see how it works. It could be kinda fun and for sure a new feel to it! Is there anything else to try in the meantime? Also thanks for the response!

Hi all. First off I just want to clarify that this is in pvp context only. I just wanted to see if the other rangers had advice for a frustrated fellow player of this class. I feel like I really don’t contribute anything to team fights really. Yes, while it might look cool to unload a rapid fire on someone and down them, I just don’t think that single target damage is really enough to warrant me even being there especially when mostly any class has access to that same level of burst.
It just doesn’t seem like there’s much in the way of cleave options and I can’t really let my pet stay in the fray too long. I feel really selfish in the fights too because while I get boons and what not from other classes, I usually don’t have much in return besides like a spotter boost that I run. Maybe I’ve made my build this way but I’ve really tried to play with it first. Can anyone tell me how they overcome this with their builds/gameplay/setup/anything? Thanks in advance for any help here!

This is NOT referring to quickdraw (as it has already been addressed). The 2 handed training trait does not reduce the 3 skill on greatsword for ranger. Here is a picture where I’ve traited for it and the cd is larger than what the tooltip says is possible.

An engie running the kind of burn setup the streamer did is gonna be dead long before pulling it off. The ranger example on the other hand is viable, although shown by someone with a clear lack of ranger knowledge.

Yea I was too late to see the ranger stuff so I have no idea about that. The engi though I think was just rabid and balth runes so that wouldn’t be dead that fast. The power one probably would be though haha.

Care to provide some actual numbers for the direct damage?

I didn’t realize that 2K per tick bleeds were something that was thought of as weak. Care to elaborate on why in the world you think this?

I hope the newer players are noting who is always negative and not providing substance.

I just kinda popped in late to the stream. However I did get there in time to see an engineer get nearly an 8k burning tick so that’s probably what it’s being compared to. The streamer from DPS kept trying to spike condi damage on different classes and it seemed like most classes with access to burn were able to get above 3k on a tick. Maybe these won’t be happening in actual pvp, but the mere fact that they’re possible from 1 character is enough to scare me. Another goodie was a zerk engi killing the light armor golem with literally 1 click on the toolbelt throw wrench and procs.

Well the thing that I’m not 100% clear on is whether the autoattacks are being sent out at your own will or if they’re just being spammed. This might not be as big of a deal for a fast attacking class like a thief that has daggers but someone using a hammer getting forced to swing it without control on timing could have a lot more trouble with this condition. I’m just curious as to how it will work in that regard. “Taunt is a control effect that forces the affected target to run towards the source of taunt with all skills except stun breakers disabled while using their auto-attack skill.” This sounds like you would not have any control in my understanding of it. How do other people interpret this?

Honestly guys- this is all speculation. Can we wait to see how things play out first? At first glance I wasn’t too pleased because it didn’t look like much changed but I’m trying to stay quiet because I think there’s a possibility for a control ranger and I would be thrilled to give it a shot. We really have some cool ideas for builds that we can make coming up that really can be diverse from one another. Now that’s something to be happy about! I’m not trying to start a riot so that’ll be my first and last on this thread until we know more. Be glad we have some tools to work with. Plus if we were over buffed then everyone would be making Rangers and we’d really have a huge (or maybe just even larger) noob population with people who don’t understand the class.

I think this will have additional merit when we start having stacks of practically everything! Could you imagine if you had 3 burns, 5 poisons, and 7 bleeds to try to figure out how much it’ll do? Great idea man!

“favorite class” “all the buffs”. Engineers barely ever received buffs, mostly nerfs. The whole reason Engineers suddenly got into the meta wasn’t because Engineers got outrageous buffs (like Warriors did a few years ago), but simply because the meta changed enough that what kept Engineers out for more than 2 years, wasn’t in it anymore.

anet is notoriously slow when it comes to balance changes, we all know that. That’s why Warriors were left to dominate (and still do!) for more than 2 years now. And i don’t think Guardian has ever NOT been part of the meta, or Thief for that matter.

Even the oh soooo “pitiful” Ranger has shown up more consistently as a top contender in pvp.

I’m not sure I follow what you mean as a “top contender”. Are you basing this off of the high level tournaments or personal experience? The high level scene is almost devoid of rangers.

Guardian changes:
Tome of Wrath: This ability has been replaced by a new Shout: “Feel My Wrath!”
“Feel My Wrath!”: Grant fury for 10 seconds and quickness for 5 seconds to nearby allies. Cooldown 30 seconds.

They get aoe quickness party support on theirs. They could also spec in runes to make Pure of Voice (Allies affected by shouts have 1 condition converted into a boon. Shout abilities have their recharge reduced by 20%) convert a condi to boon. Our 2 condi removal will be when we are traited for it also so I consider this a fair comparison- although I see this trait as a necessity on almost every build so no more eb for more condi clear or poison master for giggles. Then look at that cd and party support they get from it. Ranger just always seems like such a selfish class to me.

Open question to everyone here. Based on the changes from the livestream, what does everyone think that anet believes the role of rangers is in a pvp-sense? Most of the changes to other classes seem to have been thematic or to cover flaws, but I wasn’t noticing much of a connection here. So I’d love to hear all of your opinions!

Plus the spirit is dead after this attempt, imo making the newest ranger cheese build. Pull it off and you wreck someone or miss it and lose a utility slot. Spirits have been so underused you might catch someone in the first week and then never again because it’ll be really obvious when you’re setting it up imo.

Honestly, I don’t think they’re ignorant to the problems or just stupid. I think they see pvp as a really, really low maintenance way to increase the average minutes played by people. They see minutes as money through gem purchases or whatever. So the more fixing they have to do, the less easy money pvp is pulling in- in their eyes. They’re looking for cheap fixes that don’t take much from what I’m assuming. Taunts to pets might look like they’re trying to spice things up, but I really think that’s how they’re “fixing” all the pet issues and wouldn’t be surprised to see this on other classes pets. Personally, I don’t think a game can go esports if all you do is fling some dollars at elite tournaments when there’s some of these underlying issues. Does anyone else agree with this or what do you all think?

Yea I’m right there with you. It’d be cool to have some sort of tier effect, even if it were just more for the personal sense of improvement. I have no way to tell if I’m even getting better sometimes without having something substantive like a new technique that I may have learned in a given day.

I hope this doesn’t come off as rude, but isn’t that the point- make your team and stick with it? Imo, grouping up makes it more fun and really plays on the team aspect of the game. Maybe it’d be better if there was a way for new teams to work up the ladder without getting crushed would help. Idk just my two cents.

Man, hearing the method they plan on monetizing the game scares me a bit. Although they seem to understand that what players tell existing/potential players matters, it just doesn’t look like they want to also connect that to balance. If it takes a lot longer for things to get fixed in this game than others, it just makes it look like it’s being ignored and as a player, I don’t like that. I don’t even think I would mind if there were more frequent changes that might cause unbalance but would get changed back to fair in the next change or something. There couldn’t really be “meta” builds too quickly if things changed too quickly, right? That’s more just thinking aloud though, so there could be some holes in that. But at least everything would be fresh or at least always feel new or dynamic. That’s just the opinion of someone in the target audience of casual competitive they were shooting for though.

I never said it was just a lb thing. But sadly I think that’s the first weapon everyone thinks of when they think of this class and secondly that people would try if they heard they could break through reflect. Maybe it’s just me but I kinda doubt it. Besides when I was reading the second and fourth posts in the thread it looked like the conversation was aimed at the lb.

Ok so I’m not too big on it simply because all it does is encourage people to stick to the lb and throw traits and everything at that weapon. However, if they did create a boon or etc for this reflection penetration thing, I really don’t think ranger should be the class to get access to it. I think it’s make for a way to show team synergy if another class got it so that one class gets another highly unique method of support and that the ranger can’t abuse it in 1 v 1s or be able to pick off things while roaming around that are reflecting. That’s just my two cents, what do you think?

It’s an active defense. If you need it elsewhere then don’t use it yet. Yes I realize you roll a lot but my main point is: I’m not saying the one trait will turn everything around but instead that it isn’t game over to your attunements if you get chilled.

I noticed a lot of what you said. It makes me wonder whether or not that should mean that lb ranger could get a buff on their skills- although I think there’s other weapons they have that need it more. It really seems like this is the replacement to the “typical” power rangers.

Hey guys, I was just playing around on pvp with my ele and I saw the set bonus on the rune of the warrior. The thing I noticed was that it had a 20% cd reduction on weapon swap which I thought would apply to swapping elements because it activates the on swap sigils and whatnot. With my casual, minimal testing it just doesn’t seem to do anything. Is this the intended effect or is it just not working? Thanks!

Correct me if I’m wrong here, but wouldn’t stat allocation provide the same thing celestial + sigils + runes already accomplish?

Most players differ in their opinions as to what direction they want the balance to go. I personally believe Anet needs to put their heads together and give the community guidance as to which direction they want the meta to go. If they did, we could see the progress being made, or the lack thereof. Granted, it’s a hard task, but it definitely would be a baseline to build off of.

I couldn’t agree more right here. I just want to know how they’re going to try to balance it so we can see what they’re thinking. Then we can add input if we don’t like it before it happens.

Hey guys- disclaimer to start here. I know I’m not the best nor a part of them so take what I say with a grain of salt. But all the talk of nerfing the cele amulet seems to be so we can go towards a game that is influenced by zerk amulets. Isn’t that completely against the idea of balance? It may be my limited time and experience, but I’ve never heard of a “good” build with something like barbarian or rampager amulets. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!
