try this 1 solrik, i use it and i love it.

That one is actually very interesting!
A lot of quickness and poison.
Haven’t tried poison master yet because I don’t have it
so it might be the secret to SB rangers xD
How come you chose greatsword over sword/x?
Also, the build is most effective for duels, right?
Tried it, it sucks. No offense, but SB is lacking. It would be much better if the bleeding was always applied, but doubtable even then.

2) Bakkey Vs solrik.6028 2-0

Thanks solrik. We finally got to fight. the rounds went fairly quick. Solrik was trying out a trap build that didnt work out to well, mainly because imo traps are just weak overall. Hopefully we have a rematch soon though.
It was an SB build with Spike + Flame trap and LR + Entangle, both with the CD reduction traits. Tried to find a build that works with SB but I’ve given up now…
Trying to come up with a build that uses shortbow, but so far the only success I’ve had is not very effective, if it can be called success at all.
I simply took a cleric’s amulet, a SB with S/W with energy and leeching sigils on both sets. Then took LR, Mud, a SoS (But not fixed).
Went full BM and took the quickdraw trait in Skirmishing.
The build got called a “troll” build by a thief because of the high healing.
All that aside…
Is there any viable but still possible to kill with SB build for pvp?
First option is: Evade them, just like direct damage.
Conditions are the same as direct damage, except they come later.
Second option is: Cleanse them. Survival of the fittest, SoRenewal, Empathic bond, Evasive Purity, Sigils and Runes
Third option is: Reduce them. Get some -XY% condition duration stats
Fourth option is: Outheal them. Rangers are good at healing
Don’t understimate 4 conditions per 10 seconds because most people don’t even have half of that.
Your guard is too focused on PVP, search and destroy shouldn’t exist, sic’em is too one sided and protect me should have much lower cooldown.
Shouts should in my opinion be totally reworked into something new. They still have to keep the focus on pets. Basically, a full BM build should want to use a full Shout build.
Shouts are also the only thing that can address AI issues. For example, a low cooldown (10 to 20 seconds) skill that can teleport the pet to the target covers (not fixes) the path-finding problem. A second low cooldown skill can give the pet superspeed and quickness so that it hits reliably. Etc
Your wall of text is not very clear to read. No structure in it and that might be the reason why you don’t get replies!
No, it is the same.
The “background” calculations are still the same, the model (or mesh) you see is changed.
If you replaced the arrows mesh with a truck, the truck would hit when it’s center touches the target. So basically it’s still the default arrow that you shoot, but the visuals are changed.
Same with pets. If you takes away the F2’s, then the birds, hounds and other species share same code.
For example, all dogs have the same AI but the difference comes when it uses a specific skill (F2). When you press F2, the game checks which model the “dog” is assigned to and then chooses the correct animation and effects for the skill. I can’t say if that’s how it’s done but it’s one way of describing it!
I haven’t decided how I feel about the not allowed to change build rules. Ideally I would honor and go power vs power. But a good condi build should beat a power build. However, out of ranger spirit I am willing to suffer that defeat and dethrone the king with 6/6/2 zerker. When I lose and a new king has been made I will be happy to dethrone that king as well with a condi build. That being said, I don’t think I really wish to be king… I just started a term of school and am preparing for ToG and WTS so I wouldn’t have too much time for duels. Just showing some transparency on my thoughts. If the community wishes, I will happily dethrone kings, but I don’t think I can handle the responsibility of the crown atm.
Wow, please, stop with the boasting.
You seem to have missed the point where more than one person pointed out that this event is not about who’s the best, but for experimenting with builds and learning from others.
What gives you the right to present yourself as the best ranger?
I’m not the one who says “Skill cancelling the pets to bait dodges is also the ONLY way to actually have a chance at winning 1 v 1s or even 2 v 2s. Unless your opponent is really bad.”, it’s you. As a side note, that sentence doesn’t even make sense for someone who has reading comprehension.
If the community wishes…. wishes my kitten … The community will not come to you and say “please please please dethrone the king”.
This event accepts anyone, but there is no demand. That is, you are not demanded.
It’s a nice idea, but instead of limiting pets to one race, they should be available to anyone.
There would simply be pets that fit different races better
like armored devourers
salad pets and what not
Next problem is, if rangers get anything, a lot of people will cry “Why didn’t we get new things?” and start cussing at Anet. Sadly, this is todays audience
You would say but hey pvp is not about 1v1, surely it is not and it would be fine if matches wouldn’t consist of 3-5 guardians (rest engis
_)….. As thief at that point you might as well just sit afk at spawn or hope that enemy afk. I find it highly discouraging.
To be honest, there are usually more rangers than any other prof. in a match. But I mostly see ranger zerkbows and thief spinning machines
I’m trying to catch bakeyy online but he’s never on when I get on….
Just because traps have to do with wilderness doesn’t justify moving them there.
The traits themselves are good, but when looking at the whole, it’s just not balanced.
Most of them are too much, or too little.
As a side note, the whole post is just biased. “Preparation”? What is that good for? Fury + Swiftness for a bow…. It doesn’t contribute for anything else.
Okay okay… I’ll make a quick crude build for you:
Marksmanship:
(Adept) Precise Shots – Inflict 3 seconds of vulnerability when you hit a foe. (Duration kept low for non-crit reliant, no-cooldown proc).
(And the other minors)
Any Adept Major
Quick Attack (New) – Gaining Swiftness applies Inertia to you, halving the cast time of your next attack.
Pin Cushion (New) – Your projectiles stick in the foe for 5 seconds, stacking up to 5 times. Each stack inflicts minor damage-over-time that scales on your Power.
Skirmishing:
(First 2 minors)
Sharpened Edges (Unchanged)
Vulnerability Master (New) – Vulnerability inflicted by you and your pet last 1 second longer
Nature magic:
(First 2 minors)
Nature’s Protection (Unchanged)
Vine Wrap (New) – Activating a utility skill immobilizes the next foe you hit for 1 second.
Gear for hybrid rabid/knight’s and condition duration (mainly for vulnerability).
Then just kill everyone with axe or bow
(edited by solrik.6028)
I made myself the smallest and thinnest norn possible with an older (i.e. not baby) face.
I have nothing to regret!
The story is a bit more interesting because it’s about making yourself a name and not about being the big hero from the beginning.
People basically just heard of you and some of them help you with your legend
Also, the bows are huge.
S/T- A/D are still best for 1v1 dules, S/T- A/D builds actually got insanelyi buffedd with the changes to entangle, active sigents and might on axe. Thouse builds are so stong, they not much appreciated anymore by the ranger community(although they do require high skill and deep understaning of the ranger class). I rarly c them, but when i do, they own me like no other build in the game(and i’m talking from every profession).
Buildpls
Sounds like a mix of spanish and nordic and Snjórson is not something that floats well on my tounge (or however you say it).
I’ll give it 6/10
My ranger’s name: Zhörgen (with the G pronounced as the G in “Rag”)
Free loot for you then
I think there are still just as many “old” rangers in wvw as before, but much more new zerkbow rangers which make it seem like there are no “old” rangers.
Edit: just as zenos said, needles in a haystack, where the haystack is all the zerkbows
Do not take signet mastery because a fight won’t last a minute as a glass cannon.
Replace spider with Drakehound for immobilise.
Replace bird with Wolf for fear.
Combo with the pets and force the enemy to use cleanse/stun-breaker by using either wolf or PBS first, then the other and then burst the enemy. Try to time the pet’s knockdown (which it uses as first attack) to your advantage.
Replace Pet’s Prowess with either
Primal Reflexes for more dodges or
Companion’s Might for more pet damage
Replace Protect Me with Lightning Reflexes for more survivability or “Oh kitten” button
And no, it’s not viable for roaming.
Sorry bakeyy, can’t fight today! I’ll hit you up later, though!
Bakeyy, tonight you die!!!!11!!!oneone!
I might change my build to a poison power ranger in case that I can’t win the challenge
(Lots of “hacker” comments about that build in spvp)
I wanna rematch tomorrow
Fluffball, is that okay?
We just join a server that’s not named “Server XYZ” and then find a nice place to duel on.
My build is also just a hot-join build
(It hasn’t changed)
Wanna share your build?
No problems! We can duel some days later!
Edit:
Bakkey did not show up… Come oooon…. I don’t believe that there are no EU rangers here.
Rangers from the EU and NA! Participate! This is not about finding out who’s the best ranger, it’s about learning and having fun! It’s not that difficult to post a reply in this thread and just say “I challenge EU/NA King”. Nothing will happen if you win or lose, you’ll just learn new things! There are no prizes. There is only knowledge to be collected

Current Challengers:
My Sweet Lily, Sunday 8pm (gmt+2/cest)
Bakkey, Probably same time right after (if I win, that is)
Really? Come one… 2 hard hitting skills that are telegraphed so much that you would notice them in a water field being constantly blast finished.
I may be able to do a duel late tomorrow. Around 8pm gmt+2
If anyone wants to challenge me, do it through this thread or send an in-game mail. That’s the only way (except if you catch me online and whisper)
Imo the thread name should be something else because reading it sounds like results for something that has finished.
Maybe “Fight rangers, Challenge the King/Queen!”
Why not use knight’s and go power or rabid and go condi?
Also, confusion and daze don’t really work together because daze prevents them from using skills and they need to use skills so that confusion can deal damage.
Daze neutralises Confusion. It would be a better idea to make a confusion build and focus on evades/protection/weakness because you need to keep the enemy attacking for confusion to deal damage. But then I’d probably use Sword + Whatever with Axe + Whatever.
Also, rampager gear have been shown before to not be as effective as other stat sets. I don’t have any source on that, unfortunately.
Edit2: 10 dots above and 10 below seems to do the trick!
I think 3 dots should be enough
Ah kitten , wish I knew how to edit posts ;P

First fight was quick.
Second fight I almost kitten my pants. Was late with the stomp and nagymbear rallied. I have short CD’s so that saved my butt. Match ended 2-0. Nice to see another charr ranger!
No change to buildThat’s awesome he rallied! Love the ranger downstate. By the way are we making new throne posts like this? I just updated my original. Your way might be easier to follow.
Well I was thinking “Why not?” because when someone else is the king I don’t want to update my post for him/her.
Edit: We need a way of making the “EU KING” text easily distinguishable from the others while scrolling through the thread so people don’t look at each post to find it
Edit2: 10 dots above and 10 below seems to do the trick!
Edit3: Regarding map choice, we went to Foefire and fought inside one of the bases. I asked prior to the duel if he was picky with LoS but no, so we just found a flat open space. I think both parties should meet in the middle because that’s the most fair thing to do.
(edited by solrik.6028)
I think challenges in this thread should be first priority and challenges in game should be second. Mainly because anyone can check here and guess around when the duel will be.

Dungeons with interesting mechanics with the possibility to complete said dungeon with 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 people.
Interesting mechanics that are difficult and independent from what the part consists of.
Very basic example: Someone has to bring orbs to a machine in order to destroy it. The problem is that the machine is shooting homing projectiles at you. To avoid them, someone else must pick up a “shield” item that put’s a protactive shield around one player. The player can then walk into the homing projectiles to neutralise them.
Basically, one guy is defenseless when carryin the “attack item” (the orb) and the others have to defend the defenseless with a “defense item” (the shield).
Another example:
A grid of 5*10 platforms. 1 player has to get across to the other side, the others have to shoot rocks or some other objects to prevent them from landing on the runner (the one who get’s across) or destroying the platform.
I can go on all day with different mechanics
I’ll be on in about 5 and a half hours from this post, so time your time for then.
2) Predator’s intinct, Pretadtor’s onslaught, Intimidating training and sic’em. Be affraid, be very affraid if you choose this one, your barkskin will be nothing but toothpick to my eagle. Yeah. Exactly.
A random number generator gave me 1724, limited between 1 and 3000.

Your link is broken. No it isn’t…
Sure about friday? I can tomorrow, friday and the weekend.
Another guy, warriorjrcd or something (sorry), challenged me but haven’t wrote it here so I guess it’s unofficial.
You’re first in list!
Edit:
I don’t use bark skin for last pushes. He-he
Edit: That’s a hawk btw.

Personally I don’t think we are such idiots that we lie about the duel’s outcome. It’s not about winning something, it’s about having a little bit of fun.
Edit:
I even expect to lose since people can just counter my build.
EU KING >:D (since no one else has yet)
lol, I was gonna challange you to get this kitty started, but that build…
Heh… It works very well in sPvP but…
As a movie actor once said, something’s weakness can be what appears to be it’s greatest strength. (healing in this case)
Edit: I don’t know how fun this will be, though. Considering that someone can just quickly create a counter to the king’s build and win with ease.
(will removed this when answered)
What do you mean with no immediate rematches? Why?
And is the challenger allowed to change build between the 2 (or 3) fights?
EU KING >:D (since no one else has yet)
Is it allowed to change the build between those 2 (or potentially 3) duels?
I wonder what FluffBall and the bunch will say ’bout this
Haha why is my name on the post?
I can’t really speak too much about the suggestion; I don’t feel RF needs a nerf just because I haven’t been getting hurt by it playing as various other ranger builds, or even my own glass LB build. It’s still a really long channel with a visual that can be spotted from across the map. Couple that with the overwhelming derision the WvW, PvP, and other profession forums have for people who can’t deal with it, and I think it’s in a good place.
Other than that I can’t speak too much about balance. I have all the classes at level 80 but I mostly only understand them as far as what they do to hurt me. For example I’m aware warriors are immune to cripple from movement skills because I need to know that to fight them, but I have no idea what build they run to get that. I don’t play the other professions enough to remember all the details.
The one profession I know that just gets absolutely shredded by LB rangers is necro, and it was like that since day 1. On the other hand, LB rangers are mutilated by condis, so it’s just whoever gets the drop on the other. I’m fine with that.
SotW is undeniably overbudget.
Eh, the more damage-only LB users go, the less dangerous they are. SotW has the stability, but I think that’s pretty minor since t’s not CC that kills LB rangers but just any sort of pressure.
Here, have a bucket full of respect!
I haven’t got all to 80 (yet?) so I can’t say “Oh you’re using that skill” but I’ve learned what happens after. E.g. I can expect what a DD ELE or a hammer warrior will do.
The truth is, people who are a little more skilled can mitigate the RF damage, unless I use a weird combo they haven’t seen before. I don’t play LB nowadays and prefer odd builds like condi with survival skills mixed with BM. (Works out quite well in sPvP)
You mentioned me in one of your posts, so now I got my revenge >:D
This isn’t even worth discussing imo. Rapid Fire isn’t too strong and doesn’t deserve any nerfs. A good developer balances for skill, not the skill level of bad players, and if ANet is going to promote a balanced product, then they will stick to their guns with the update.
IF ANYTHING, a global nerf needs to be implemented so that Air and Fire sigils either cannot be proc’d at the same time and/or cannot be used on the same weapon. They are what is creating issues with ridiculously fast times to kill, and even 1 shot mechanics, but it isn’t something specific to any class, and rather, an issue with all strong burst options in the game.
GW2 is already a dying game, it doesn’t need to pander to the worst possible denominator of players, it will just kill the remaining populations motivation to play even more and all that will be left are the mouthbreathers.
Read again, I don’t want RF to be nerfed.
This is a discussion about what would be the best change to RF in order to make it easier to avoid, for an (according to anet) “Average Player”.
The first paragraph of yours is wrong, because any company will always prioritise the average population. 90% of bad players who continue to play the game means more money than those 10% who are very skilled.
Still, all this is irrelevant because this is a thread for discussing what would be the best change to RF if anet decides to change it. There is nothing more to it.
No need to bring up how much you think this game fails.
Btw, not trolling, how do you know it’s dying?
you pay 6 points to it and thus limiting your other options, it deserves the power. You know what else guaranteed hits? mesmer beam.
You can’t simply just take 2 skills and compare them. The argument is invalid because the (mesmer) greatsword doesn’t have the same function as the (ranger) longbow.
But sure….
(Opposite of one applies to the other)
Long Range Shot:
-Projectile finisher
-Traits that improve the skill directly
-Has an actual range of around 1800 with traits
Spatial Surge:
-33% slower
-Fixed range
The big difference i that Mesmer GS is mostly damage and one CC on 30s CD, while ranger LB is damage, stealth, knockback all three on short CD, plus Barrage which is AoE.
I write it here too, this only applies if anet decides that RF must be changed
That is litterally the worst thing they could change about it, IMO.
Why?
Damage is the same, Functionality is the same, everything is the same.
What is change is that the first and last arrow will hit a tiny bit later.
Would you rather have the damage nerfed, vulnerability removed, have it made into a static skill like whirling axe, range decreased or cooldown increased?
then don’t change anything with the skill except reducing it’s projectile speed.
Results? Noobs are easy to hit close & far, skilled players can evade the arrows by timing their left/right strafes correctly.
Easy form for the handicapped people:
Rapid fire with reduced projectile speed leads to
-Skilled players can evade the arrows by strafing left and right
-Noobs will still be owned from distance
-Ambushes still possiblekitten I don’t have to write this… Any good ranger can figure out what slower RF means…
I wonder what FluffBall and the bunch will say ’bout this
(Keep in mind that this is a change I suggest only for the scenario of anet deciding that the skill must be changed!)
Don’t we need the number of shots halved for this to work? I mean if you don’t change the channel time, how will that work?
The arrows RF fires will just fly slower, arc more. It wouldn’t affect anything else in any way except that the first and last hit would occur 0.2 seconds later. ( I puller that number out of my bum)
Read the Wind is a grandmaster trait investment to allow the longbow to hit moving targets reliably.
Without Read the Wind, the longbow can miss up to 100% of its shots if the target is strafing. The target wouldn’t even have to use its evade, block, dodge, blind, aegis, projectile block or projectile reflect. Almost any movement would avoid many hits from the longbow, even if they’re not trying to avoid it.
It’s also spending a trait slot which could be used for great traits like: Eagle Eye, Piercing Arrows, Spotter, Remorseless and Predator’s Onslaught.
Read the Wind is the best thing to happen to the Longbow for the PvP/WvW environment. It has single-handedly revived the weapon 6 months before any Rapid Fire buff came along.
Avoiding a longbow without Read the Wind doesn’t require any skill.
The problem most people are having with RF is that it’s a very easy to use build which required almost no effort to kill other people. Skilled players will easily predict RF and avoid it, then continue with killing the ranger. The problem is that the zerker RF build will always be powerful in an Average Player VS Average Player game. The actual problem is that it’s too easy to use for having 1500 range.
Next problem that “Average Player” has with RF is that it’s 1500 range and nothing can be done against it because it ‘seems so fast’.
By decreasing projectile speed, RF will give the “Average Player” a chance to react and evade, whilst the more skilled players strafe left and right in rythm to avoid the arrows (which, believe me, is not easy)
You missed a very important thing about strafing. The player has to strafe in rythm with how the ranger is shooting. Strafing too early will cause the arrow to hit, strafing to late will also cause the arrow to hit. Strafing too little will cause the arrow to not be fired slightly to the side, strafing too much will make the arrow go the the sides but will also hit due to over-strafing. There is much more to it than you think.
Read the Wind is unnecessary in sPvP because people don’t care about dodging the arrows. It may be important in WvW (yes, I have used rtw and liked it) but it’s only useful when over 900 range. From then the flight time is short enough to not miss.
That, in turn, applies to RF (if it’s projectile speed is reduced). It will be risky to use RF at long range because of it’s projectile speed (because of potential misses) but it will become more accurate at closer (note the ‘r’) range.
Keep in mind, this only applies if anet decides that RF must be changed
Not to mention warriors and rangers are different classes that are meant to be played completely differently and have those trade offs adjusted in their weapons and traits.
Since all the math guys are here, the most reasonable comparison that can be made between ranged weapons in the game is either comparing the damage output of the ranger Longbow to the Mesmer Greatsword, and the next closest comparison is to compare it to the Elementalist staff.
I’m sure people will find that, particularly with the Mesmer Greatsword, the damage is so similar that it matches the class philosophies ideals presented in the ready up podcast a few weeks ago.
Beside those, there are also factors like armor and health. Warrior’s base armor and health is higher, and their utilities are more aggressive.
Edit:
Same kind of argument works for all professions. They are built differently and the problem is that many players can’t see the big picture and have only a small tunnel vision directed at RF when thinking about balance
