Like other threads that have criticized the patch and tequatl gameplay, I LOVE challenging content, and love challenging myself, and in terms of individual skill, I post here because I know i’m not bad or a liability or incapable of dealing with a tough situation. However, the results of teq events, aren’t based on your own individual skill.

A lot of us know the mechanics and methodology like the back of our hands. The frontline stacked super tight zergs, turrets aoe-cleanse and buffing on the zerg while making sure to do scales, some servers choose to designate north side for scales or south for buffs only, we have a large enough group of stalwart defenders, parties assigned to each turret, while marking turreteers to check their health and safety, turreteers all have tequalt targeted for easy #2 skill, we want a high amount of ele’s dropping ice bows and fiery gs, we want power dps builds in the frontline DPS, crit doesn’t work, nor does condition, we want PVT builds if possible so they dont go down as much, get food and potions out, theres countless things that we all already know. we KNOW the methodology. Some popular servers we guest to are amazing at coordination and have great communication, yet most of the time only get it down to mid or low percents etc.

However, today BG apparently had 100% success rate. The 100% no spot for error or even a slight lack of DPS… sounds epic. but in reality it has only been frustrating because with all the effort and coordination and amazing play players are putting in, and hours and hours to stand in a map to wait for teq to spawn, for a full day, yet, are often left with failures still. As close as we can get.

Okay, sure we might get better and better, but was this really necessary? In my opinion, all we really needed was the timer (which wasn’t even well estimated and implemented if Arenanet has never defeated teq in the first place to understand how long on average it might take and adjust accordingly) to be slightly increased to 25 minutes. That would make most servers able to achieve it reasonably, with good coordination, not near impossible impeccable performance.

There isn’t even a way to guarantee a 100% good group, with the amount of guesters jumping around, afkers since they were having to wait for teq, the people who don’t listen, or are under-levelled and lacking gear or not the right builds in the right spots, so on, there are so many variables.

But other than the repeated “QQ”, taking a step back we can see that this patch is segregating players, not only frustrating them and making some give up but there is a huge division of players… [continued]

I’ve been working with tech support going back/forth etc – curious if any of you all have Mac Book Pros with Retina?

Can you mention to them that my situation was fixed with a replacement of preferences folder, even though it didn’t work for other people? It should do with graphics config files and settings etc, especially seeing how some people had issues and others didnt

I know there’s threads already but just saying here’s my hopelessly ideal lore for the new patch, rather than speculation or analysis into this

1) After Zhaitan’s presumed defeat, we learn that Elder Dragons can be replaced, and there is a cycle to succession. Ancient dragon lieutenant, Tequatl, has been gaining power and is striving to succeed Zhaitan and become the next Elder Dragon. Later on, it may transform and morph into more corrupted powerful form more similar to Zhaitan’s appearance as it consumes magic

2) Zhaitan is only presumed to be dead and all statements is based on the Pact’s limited knowledge about the Elder Dragon. In Zhaitan’s weakened state, Tequatl takes command for the time being and becomes stronger, or Tequatl is rebelling in hopes of succeeding against Zhaitan’s weakened control and is actually drawing its strength out of Zhaitan’s weakened body.

xD possible or not? What are your ideals for this seemingly significant living story but scared of being disappointed in Anet lore design? xD

Aww… i don’t know why it worked for me xD hmmm… Question, did you guys have custom graphic settings before the patch? I.e. windowed, and non-preset detailed settings (shaders, shadows, textures, etc)

My friend sent me his “Preferences” folder, and i replaced mine with his, and now it works. There’s something in the configs that made it go wrong. If you have a friend who has a mac client which had configs that worked on this patch, try a copy of the Open Package Content > Resources > Preferences folder.

you’ll never have 100% well coordinated, great players and guilds. that already eliminates 90% of success rate honestly. like everyone has said. and secondly, even with a coordinated server group, it is still really really hard, with the timer. Tequatl and other world bosses can use a buff but once again, as Anet proves, their judgement isn’t very wise. They’ve over-buffed tequatl. they can’t even defeat it, did they even do a test to see how long it takes to take it down, before tacking on a timer on a reasonable estimate?

Still trying to figure out what’s going on, but after logging in and pressing “Play”, it gives me a black full screen with the mouse cursor and background music but nothing accessible or visible.

I usually run this game on windowed mode as well. No response right now.

Probably already reported but just in case. Since the patch, I myself have been experiencing this but when I spoke to others, many also have been complaining about skill lag, the game pausing (characters are moving but no skills are displayed or used) for like 2-3 seconds every few minutes, and skill lag is definitely obviously occuring all the time. Definitely server-end issues.

but honestly, how can any player say they can kill anyone, any class, any skill level, etc. there’s too many varying factors. Someone can build a build just to counter yours. Someone may have way better actual gameplay skill and strategic mind than you. Can you kill anyone if they all came at once? i.e. 1vX? Someone might be better condition than playing a tired you. Who knows, so how can anyone ever say such a ridiculous statement? What’s more ridiculous is saying that this build, or any single build can kill anyone… Give it to a really really really bad player new to the game. You think they can kill anyone? These statements are just so ridiculous. You can tone it down and it will sound a lot more plausible. Like this build in the hands of a good player can easily win fights.

Or at the very least they can include it in some sort of documentation form, like say Vorpp has gathered intel about Scarlet as well, and you can interact with a page on a table or something to read the story in game, at least it will help players who don’t bother to check the site or look for the short story to see it in game

haha I just decided to make this for fun, nothing impressive. It was just something for a collaborative gw lore based T1 RP project i’m doing on my server, which has been pretty interesting with all our backstories. This is an extension of my character’s backstory, framed for crimes and running for her life, to bring some difficulties to the table!

Mesmers are extremely weak in terms of damage in numbers right now… what are you people smoking??? Thieves and warrior spammable bursts……

Only thing keeping mesmer as my favourite class is the “work”/“effort” involved which makes it fun but also versatile because of all our countering/mobility/utilities/survivability tricks and being able to stay at range and melee if necessary… The only way we can win fights is putting in extra effort and using our brains… It has nothing to do with our damage…. other classes spam buttons over and over again to win because they do have the damage

if you have a useful torch stealth, it’s a little hard to get away from the stealth builds haha

PU stealth really DOES work well. the boons and stuff, synergizing with chaos storm and staff and torch stuff… it’s just great with torch and staff combinations

Is there any reason you really want that torch other than never using it….

1) With real tactics aside for discussion, tagging is super easy as a mesmer in all honesty. I use it to farm all the time even, and I prefer it more than other classes.. i seem to be able to tag everything if i try. But yes, you’l need to try on a mesmer. my zerker, well placed, tags a lot, there’s the knockback on gs 5 that hits everything nearby in a cone front of you and my chaos storm as well, gs auto attack beams are piercing so if you have an enemy selected thats behind other targets, they all will be hit, often i run around with a target thats in the middle of the zerg, and it sweeps through many of them, many mesmers also use the main hand sword, and your blurred frenzy and autoattack are sweeping and will tag people, and even some mesmer videos from good wvw groups like RG, they run around swinging autoattack sometimes. you’ve got shatters in a shatter build of course, and your utilities, like feedback, projectile reflects, projectile reflects and stationary aoe with the iwarden focus phantasm and so forth. But a mesmer is highly versatile and has a number of good build directions to go, so, depending on the situation, your play and uses will vary. Like people have said, you can build a support mesmer for a zerg group and be veil/portal bot as well as boons i.e. chaos storm, boon stripping with null field and dps time warp so on… But if you want to really tag, as I do, I have a balanced build with significant raw dps while supporting the group, even the zerg busting squad i used to run with had no problems with my build, equipped with whatever slot skills they might need, but i don’t always run veil and portal for the group all the time, especially when there’s other mesmers for other purposes.

2) As a light armor caster, there is a limit to how tanky you can be, but you can get pretty tough. I run a balanced build which plays on some of the tanky boons and stuff you can get. But if you go full survival, there’s some really good builds out there, you have can have constant protection, regen, aegist, retaliation, etc + get -condition duration and get condi removal stuff… I don’t know everything about survivability but one of the most powerful lines to take is PU for survivability, boons on stealth, offhand torch condi removals + staff, condi removal on shatters, etc. But… you wouldn’t really go front line with a mesmer… survivability would be mainly for small group / roaming / solo stuff

3) I use centaur runes as we often are forced to, and alot of builds will have. With centaur runes and my mirror heal i have perma swiftness basically and a heal that has less CD and actually is quite useful imo. You could also use mantra heal for perma swiftness. You also have a focus temporal curtain for swiftness and CC and so forth.

Why Are Mesmer Phantasms Undodgeble?

Phantasms are our one of the main sources of large damage as a class, and you can easily dodge attacks and so forth, even if you’re just spamming dodge whenever you can. It will be too easy to make the mesmer completely useless and won’t be able to stand against any classes. The phantasms need to come out at least. You can still have a choice of dodging their attacks and our shatters etc. You can’t ask the most basic main form of damage to be so easily voided

…..oh…. So you really believe that, okay…. Uhmm…. I’ve never seen such confidence in one’s class. People have always said things like that about mesmer… I don’t see what gives it so much more depth than every other class. I mean, I feel like if engi got a couple buffs they would be l a serious threat.

A proper mesmer build has the utility and flexibility to deal with pretty much anything. All types of builds, whether shatter based, phantasm based, or condition based, are able to adapt themselves to any situation. Mesmers come with several very potent varieties of damage avoidance and reduction, extremely powerful boon stripping and condition removal tools, stunbreakers in multiple effective forms, and the most highly usable projectile reflects of any class.

There are certainly other good builds out there, but they can all be beaten by a mesmer. You mentioned engineers, so we can look at that. Engineers have a serious weakness in their reliance on projectiles. A traited focus will completely shut down an engineer. Additionally, their burst is heavily condition based, so a phantasmal disenchanter will generally completely remove their potential for damage. There are a few engineer builds that don’t rely on projectiles, but they require close range to be effective, and generally accomplish that with magnet, which can be avoided easily with blurred frenzy or blink if need be.

A big part of fighting effectively is knowing the toolset and capabilities of every class and build you will come across. If you can identify these rapidly, you can always play to counter them.

If I could frame this on a wall I would :P So true. Mesmers, are amazing. But at the same time, not everyone is good at it, so you’ll see a lot of QQers and people saying the mesmer sucks in whatever situations. And you’ll also see a lot of other classes calling Mesmers OP. I personally don’t think Mesmers are OP, just very versatile, with so many diff builds. Some players can even play a mantra build and win most of their fights. Ultimately, good players can trump other good players, depending on a lot of factors. You can’t even say you are the best skilled player because there’s always people better (and worse). You can also say human condition may affect it as well, maybe a slight distraction that changes a fight slightly, a split second lag, tiredness, someone calling for you, LOL there’s all kinds of “excuses” but they will affect the outcome of a fight. As well, like Pyro said, there are all these skillsets and builds, but it would have to be tweaked just for that one encounter with a certain player’s class and their build and fight style to ensure a win. If you’re running with a build that is taken against many various situations, you can reslot skills etc, but it wouldn’t guarantee the Mesmer 100% victory. So, I wouldn’t say Mesmers = sure win, but it has a high chance of winning, if you are good with it. Pyro covered it pretty well, we have some really good skills and builds.

I think that she will call the charr ambassador (Rox) (that is why she is actually there in this story) to the stage which she is on to finally announce and finalize the peace treaty between charrs and humans but just before doing that the aetherblades are going to attack everyone and maybe take Queen Jennah or kill her and/or the same with rox and we will get a permanent dungeon for revenge or getting her back

If someone runs away from fighting you instead of waiting the minute or so for you to run out of stealth capabilties you did NOT win. You’re playing a highly defensive stealth build with little to no snaring ability. If you want to lock people down you need to bring the tools to lock people down, such as greatsword and/or sword+focus. I don’t play a cond torch mesmer in WvW because people will run from you all the time cause you’re a pain in the kitten to kill. Don’t feel all smug and victorious when someone decides just to not fight you, they’re deciding you’re a waste of time and not a threat.

I like condition stealth mesmer in sPvP where the name of the game is fighting in a small area. In WvW mobility is king. If you don’t bring any mobility or counter-mobility to the table you’re not automatically winning against everyone that’s faster than you.

I think that’s a bit extreme to say you are not a threat and you did not win. Yes to pain in the kitten to kill and if you really wanted to kill all runners you’d need lock down but, if they stick it out, they will die under a good mesmer’s hands, PU, torch, whatever, or not. I run something with PU, though not torch and i do have swiftness, i kill people… people who run found it hard to kill me. like two thieves who jumped me… found out i couldn’t be killed, while THEY could, EVEN if i ran out of stealth, cuz i didn’t even use any stealth yet lol and ran. That to me, is a victory… don’t call out another person’s build like that. But yes, if the plaer builds not for killing runners, then don’t kill runners lol You can say, its a waste of time to kill runners who try to run across the whole map… i chased this one warrior across the map, cuz he was scared after like a 30 second fight, just for fun wondering why he didn’t waypoint bc we were out of combat after a while. rofl

PvE is great on mesmer, levelling was a blast for me. Compared to something where u swing around a sword like a barbarian, you obviously do less damage… but like others have said, the solo-ing ability is what makes the class shine. Even at low levels, before level 40 i was in level 40 zones as a level 30, etc, always up to 10 level higher. Often you can take on like multiple mobs all at once, or champs by urself if you are fluid at the play style. Mesmer has great survivability and fighting mobility, but yeah run speed lolll… I didn’t find the damage lacking though, I ran zerker, shatter/phantasm, but my fav weapon was staff by far actually, those clones once u give them a few seconds to get going, stacks conditions and things melt really quick. I remember taking a level 80 thief friend to a level 40 zone and racing him on killing multiple mobs, and my level 35 mesmer was not even slow in comparison xD but this was a while ago. Nevertheless, mesmer is not bad at all if you know the play style well. Even some good level 80 mesmers now, might have bad memories from it, if they weren’t very well adapted to the play style then. But because mesmer and I just clicked, like it was created for me, I felt really powerful than on any other class

Mesmers = Lowest dps in the game?

idk, most people when talking about dps, are talking about burst damage.

Then they don’t understand what DPS means, which is “the average rate of damage inflicted over time”.

If you can do a huge burst (or volley, etc., sometimes different terms are used in different games), but if you can only do it once a minute, then your DPS could easily be lower than someone who does comparatively tiny hits, but every 3 seconds, for example.

This is why it’s sometimes the case that a powerful autoattack can do more DPS than any other combination of abilities, even if they put up big numbers. It’s also the reason why classes that put out DoTs (or in our game conditions) can sometimes top DPS charts over more flashy classes that do hits with big numbers.

That’s also why I mentioned the point that GW2’s fights are pretty short: if fights are short, then burst is (usually) more important than DPS, if fights are long, then DPS is (usually) more important than burst.

Mesmers can certainly have quite respectable burst damage, but the question is whether our DPS, our sustained damage, is low (which it kind of is, especially with weak autoattacks like staff and scepter, but it probably doesn’t matter because of the short fights).

Yes I agree, that it depends on the length of the fight. But my issue is when we’re talking about fights over a longer period of time, which mainly occurs in dungeons, against champions/legendary bosses, especially when looking at tough dungeons which requires skill, we’re looking at a lot more variables than just the numbers or damage over time.

For example, when you have a warrior who hits really hard auto attack or whatnot, or might even be a balanced build, with good heavy hits, auto attack or whatever, while having some survivability, once again, i’m saying all classes need their “set up”. The warrior (some warriors don’t build for range), would have to be in melee to do the most damage. While this is okay for a short period of time, eventually, they get hit pretty hard by the boss. They have to continually evade, dodge, run away to heal, and all sorts of stuff, which actually if you think about it, takes away also from their constant damage dealing. Same for a thief, you don’t see a thief up in a tough long boss fight’s face, all the time, tanking it like a guardian. When out of range, suddenly, the dps rates will change. A bunker guardian, while able to tank the boss, might not do as much damage either. That’s why we have a team of people working on one particular long fight objective. However, when we look at mesmer, we have a lot of versatiliy, utility, evasion, stun breaks, all sorts of stuff that keeps us alive, but we’re also dealing tons of damage consistently at range or jumping into melee. (that’s my opinion and personal experience) people want mesmers in dungeons, quoted not only for talking about utilities but that they want zerker mesmers for their dps while other members of the group can focus on tanking, holding the boss in place, attracting aggro, etc. Mesmers can deal sustained, consistent damage over time in long fights, even tho their autoattack isn’t that great, just as well as other classes, because other classes need their set up and need to survive as well. Mesmers might be one of the easiest classes to survive with, when played well, imo. Often times mesmers might be last one standing

We could probably go back and forth giving different examples from different scenarios all day long, but in the end much of mesmer’s damage is out of their own personal control when you compare it to other classes that can do the same amount of damge or more without all of the situational requirements that come along with playing a mesmer.

Yeah, I agree it does take some work to set up, and that burst damage considerations is different depending on length of fight, but because there are so many variables to a mesmers damage that’s why they are more versatile than other classes. for example someone said you bring a warrior in for DPS. However, I find that in most of my experiences that is NOT true. Warriors who are built for DPS, generally die pretty quick in tougher dungeons, I’ve even seen good bunker guardians go down pretty quick, while mesmers staying at range, or you know, being so mobile with utilities as well, they can keep up damage over time, while not dying. Another issue is other classes like a warrior, requires to be in Melee range for most of their DPS. When this is like a wvw fight, you can be sure other players will be moving, dodging, or blocking, and otherwise countering those melee attacks. Mesmers on the other hand, yes, they require different sources, but that is what makes their damage viable, effective, and powerful. If things get one shot, you simply keep generating illusions and shattering them, phantasms, after they get off their first hits. No matter where i am, or what kind of one shot hits can kill my iLock, I usually have a chaos storm down on my warlock, so they’re protected from incoming attacks with aegis, (while i’m getting boons and phase retreat) and they get off their first attacks, and if need be, shatter. That is just one example, but there are plenty of other things mesmers can do, at range, at melee, and various other scenarios. They are a versatile class. Like what i said, my friend would often say, dead dps is no dps. Warriors, thieves, some rangers need their pets, etc, while they can be dishing incredible dps, they would still need their own situations to take place, i.e. melee, (unless built for a rifle build etc). Truth is, every class needs their own form of “set up” and in the long run, OR in the short run, I don’t think mesmers are weaker at all OR requires MORE set up. I think Mesmers generate illusions like nothing, no effort at all. At least all the builds i’ve ever played on mesmer feels that way, and have never felt weak compared to other classes. On the base level looking at pure numbers, time, damage etc, it may seem that other classes have it better, but in actual fights, it is not that different.

idk, most people when talking about dps, are talking about burst damage. After all “damage per second”, if you have crazy burst damage, your “damage per second” spikes during that time, and becomes your “record damage per second”. People will use that as their reference point. It’s hard to talk about sustained damage, because like people have said, phantasms getting out, or even for other classes, what skills do you use? what weapons do you use? do you spam every skill + weapon swap to count this towards “dps” or do you only calculate autoattack sustain?? There’s no point of reference. The burst dps record is their point of reference. If you can consistently dish that burst dps, then that’s what your build and class is capable of.

I’ve ran a lot of dungeons, my mesmer is king in dungeons. People ask for mesmers , especially zerker mesmers in dungeons.

1) One friend used to say this alot, dead dps is no dps. If you’re talking about dungeons, you know how survivable a good mesmer is with all its evasion and so on. In fact, many dungeons, especially way back in the day when things were crazy, i am the last one standing, despite having a bunker guardian etc. Cuz i mean they’re trying to tank heavy boss hits, while mesmers are great for kiting, evading, stun breaking, etc. + with a survivable mesmer build, you can tank hits AND evade

2) Dungeon bosses takes forever to kill most of the time, you certainly have more than enough time to get up your phantasms. Secondly, you have two weapon sets, thats almost immediately two phantasms out. If placed right they are fine. I also run gs/staff, both phantasms survive for long bc the zerker spins out of the way, warlock stays at ranged. Thirdly, you have traits or even without traits, phantasms recharge in few/several seconds. If they die, you put out a new one soon. If you’re shatter, they get off their hit, shatter them, move on to the next one. Often in dungeon strategy, they do get one shot AFTER, but usually they can land their first attack. Then you shatter them as well. These are all part of your damage, and it is NOT hard to get out that phantasm damage often.

3) We also need to count our utilities as dps. Mesmers often run temporal curtain reflects, warden reflects, feedback, time warp and so on. This affects our damage (and party damage as well on tw). (this also talks about the burst idea, u know how often people talk about time warp and saying it increases dps, etc etc, damage per second, means burst in this case, within the few seconds tw is up, it doubles the damage, this is DPS, so yes the discussion will often be about BURST dps)

I’ve had no problems in dungeons. I’ve been the last one standing solo-ing the boss all the way to death. I PvE alot, i WvW. I prefer PvE honestly. PvE mobs go down super fast. Recently, I’ve been running a wvw style build, meaning alot more survivable, toughness etc, while I still do my best to have high attack and stacks and whatnot. My build isn’t based on shatter or burst damage, it is based on sustained heavy dps. My DPS even with more survivability, is still insane. People always comment on mesmer dps saying how fast mobs die or how fast wvw players go down.

I don’t see how we suck in dps at all. Like i said in my last reply, our range, variety and possibility of sources of damage are more than other classes often times, and must be counted all together. We are quite strong. Everyone and every other class always quotes mesmers as being strong in many capacities.

Lol everybody is complaining about mesmer 1v1 even now, after all the updates, that mesmer dps is insane. People running dungeons ask for a zerker mesmer not just for its utilities but also for its ranged damage, where other classes can just tank the bosses, they want the mesmer to stay alive for dps. And it is true, but what kind of damage you want depends.

Shatter mesmers can hit like 10k + in a split moment easily and you will see wvw videos of how they really crush people like paper. Condi mesmers also has a ton of damage not from seeing huge numbers pop up on your screen.

Though some classes like some have said their autoattack sword swing may hit for 5k already, or a thief’s burst damage etc is insane. But keep in mind that THEY also have conditions for them to hit that much. For example, warrior 100b, has to be melee, the target can’t be moving or able to dodge. If facing a mesmer, a mesmer can easily blink or phase retreat or blurred frenzy or something to evade stuff like that. Same for a thief, they also need the situation to be right to LAND their bursts. For people who know how to fight thieves you will notice they say thieves are no problem, because they know the rhythm of thief attacks and how to dodge, how to block etc. Mesmers have a ton of evasion.

Mesmers also need their situation, but so do all classes. Mesmers may seem like they need to do a lot more to land the same damage, but, it’s really the same relatively. And it’s really not that hard for a shatter mesmer to dodge two times, or do a mirror images, or this or that, illusions come non stop, its not hard to set up at all + shatter mesmers have their own persona shatter. Blink in shatter and blurred frenzy combos, staff combos, illusions come out super fast and the burst damage is quite easy if you’re used to the class.

Any good player can get a ton of damage in. You can’t compare classes really, it’s up to player style and skill. The question might be how often can mesmers get in their damage as opposed to thieves or something? I actually think mesmers get in their damage much more, because they have a lot more versatility and damage comes from so many sources. Thieves will need to LAND the hit and good players can easily predict and defend against such melee hits.

In my opinion, all classes are nicely balanced already. Depending on your play style and build you can easily do what you want to do. There are tons of zerker mesmers who dish incredible damage and you see people complaining about them, yet they are survivable because of their utilities… so…. mesmers are definitely not weak at all. U need to take all considerations into mind

The blue seems slightly off, but I’m not quite sure in which direction it needs to be nudged…

Haha, yeah, its off, well, cuz i wasn’t trying to do an accurate representation! I didn’t like the actual quaggan blue on the logo, i wanted less saturation and a bit of green in it XD so to be more accurate would be to add some saturation and more blue, less green

We’re working on some ideas for our server’s logo, and quaggans are such a big part of our server and guilds that it was brought up, and i went and made these real quick xD

Cuz we’re Ehmry Bay, we thought marine mascot and the keep walls which represent the Bay in WvW would make sense…

But I’m taking this further and making a whole series ^^ I’m going to make a lot more versions with different outfits, different backgrounds, poses, comics and more in the future. Also someone wanted to commission me to make a custom outfit one!

Her eyes widened upon realization, that the creature’s voice was vaguely familiar. The man’s voice was layered under the secondary wails of a tortured soul and a mindless monotonous drone. But yet, it was no doubt, him. There was no other, who had called her “milady” thus far. He had been the first one to help her flight from Divinity’s Reach what seemed like decades ago. Without his help, she would have easily died at the hands of the decaying undead of Zhaitan. Without him, she wouldn’t have been able to find her family’s records and prevent the fall of Lion’s Arch. But he also had disappeared long ago. He was surely dead wasn’t he? They had been separated, but this couldn’t possibly be him. There was no way.

She wasn’t fast enough as he struck, catching her off guard from a slew of unrestrained emotions and memories that flooded her mind. Her responses, magic and instincts were sluggish and as she tried to throw herself to the side, the force of his crystalline deformed fists caught the side of her ribs and threw her across off of the wall.

She hit the ground with a sickening thud and felt the air driven right out of her lungs. She had no time to recover as he, or it, lunged towards her brandishing a great and vicious battle halberd. She still couldn’t see its face, nor its eyes but without a doubt, it was not here to talk. Despite her initial hesitation from hearing his voice, seeing him in such a deformed grotesque state, unable to understand what he had to have gone through, she knew it meant her harm. It was here to kill her.

Every battle began with the question of life or death. No battle should be fought out of jest. And she had to pick up her composure, or it would mean her demise.

Its heavy crystal armored body was much larger than her and as it drew closer, high above her, it seemed to slow down, as Reina gathered her focus and energy. She pushed aside her thoughts and her emotions, as she had been taught. She silenced her mind and emptied her body of tension. Every limb relaxed and gave way to instinct. She would not think. Purely react and act, letting her body and the sixth sense of battle become her mind.

As always, time seemed to slow, and the spear drew closer aimed straight for her head. The creature’s figure painted a dark shadow across her slight form and the ground around her. Seeing her still body, and steady waiting eyes, the creature’s mouth seemed to crack into a grin, sharp amethyst teeth sneering. Its heavy mass finally landed directly on top of her – but at the last possible second, she disappeared in a blaze of purple light, blinding its sight for a second. All that was left were butterflies.

There was a great roar that left its lips as it spun around, searching, hunting for its prey. The crystal spikes protruding from its back and shoulders glowed a frustrated pink. “Reina!” Its voice was steeped with poison.

But in the chamber there was not a trace of the girl, as if she had never existed. It scanned the floor levels, desperately looking up and down the walls for a sign of her billowing golden robes or white armor. But there was nothing.

“Come out, Reina!” The voice was no less angry. The voice was no less hungry. It only seemed to repeat what it once knew, nothing but an automated repetition. “Come, I won’t hurt you. I’ll help you.”

There was no response. There was only silence. “Join me. Join us. I’ve gained power. Join us.” It sputtered and stopped for there was another flash of purple light, a different hue that shone brighter than its crystals. Then it howled in pain, shaking the walls with its scream.

It wasn’t the girl however. There was only a translucent pale white ghost of a figure, standing its ground before the creature, holding a phantasmic greatsword. It had managed to land a flurry of strikes against the creatures side suddenly, glancing off its thick hide and black grey armor that mutated from its skin. Neverthelekittenipped off a chunk of the exoskeletal armor, marking the first significant blow of the battle. But there was no pause for the creature as an illusionary sword from the shadows spiralled towards its back.

It spun around, surprisingly agile, and a clawed hand caught the blade by the hilt, tossing the sword aside like a toothpick. With the source of the attack now in sight, the creature leapt forward without hesitation, sharp teeth snarling, bounding steps as quick as a dire wolf, covering much ground. As it lifted its weapon high ready to strike, the mesmer too, hadn’t waited to be discovered; she was just as fast, and threw herself forward across the chamber with all her strength and only left behind a cloud of violet particles. A sudden flash of purple appeared in her hands before they collided – she had drawn her greatsword.

Her skin prickled with the sensation of concentrated arcanic energy in the room. Every nerve of hers stood on end and nearly sent an involuntary shudder up her spine. It certainly wasn’t something that took her by surprise. Every step of the way here, was increasingly more eerie and full with the aura of… death. No, but it wasn’t like the aura of death in the tombs of the Ascalonian catacombs. Nor the stench of rotting death and dark magic in the corridors in Arah. No, this was a different aura of death. A static state of immobility and lifelessness. No grisly endings, no brutal force, just the absence of life.

The halls – if it could be called that – she passed through were at least five stories high, solid metal alloy frames of some kind, not built straight and structured but twisted and spindly like some organic skeleton of a behemoth. Each piece of metal, dark and black to look at, cold and desolate to touch. But between every few meters were crystals that lay inset in the walls. In the darkness of the night and misty fog, purple crystals, glowing and humming with energy, so potent, she could almost breathe it in. Though she had been separated from her companions, she needed to see this through. She had to retrieve the crystal and make her escape, before the seals the Pact mages held together, failed to work and all their effort would go to waste.

There was the opening before her. This should be the right way. The archway was easily a hundred times her small stature and likely the breadth of a corsair ship. Needless to say it was huge, stretching above her ominously. The closer she drew, the thicker the air was saturated with magical energy. She had a horrible apprehension that crept through her body. Every fiber and muscle tensed, ready to move at any instant.

But her path here had been quiet and eerily peaceful. Nothing came out to challenge her, nor any warped beast to lunge out from the shadows. Strange enough to cause more caution than before.

She passed under the gargantuan archway easily, like an ant in a gorge. Once she was through, she almost gasped in astonishment of the chamber with a cavity that stretched seemingly to the skies. She could barely make out the ceiling where the frames of the organic metallic structure converged. While the ceiling was high, the diameter of the circular room was just as large. But the floor was spectacular as well, fitted with multi-levels that descended towards the center, where something sat.

She stepped in closer for a look and realized it was what she was looking for. Sitting on a dark purple pedestal was a floating teardrop crystal, pointing up at the sky. If she could simply take it and make her way out…

But nothing was that easy.

Behind her, the archway she passed by emitted a screeching sound, as what seemed like fangs began to descend and rise, from the top and from the ground. With a metallic shriek, it snapped shut. And sealed her escape.

Frantically, she scanned the walls for any more doors out, but there seemed to be none.

Instead, from the ceiling high above, dropped a shape. A dark figure.

It landed with a mighty crash, splintering the ground beneath her feet with resounding shockwaves.

She managed to leap backwards – not forgetting a graceful flip – before the ground where she had stood cracked open, and landed deftly on an elevated ledge tucked into the side of the wall.

She had no time to breathe, for the shadow had picked itself up, bristling with angry crystalline shards and a weapon that was reforming into a spear.

Then with a bellowing voice, thick with corruption, it spoke.

“You’ve come at last, milady.”

Badges Permanent?

Sorry if this has been asked before but are the support Candidate badges permanent? Like we can use it even after the next update and when the politics patch ends? I have a permanent reusable rare label badge, will that remain in game as a souvenir?

This is particularly useful because I’m going to use it as my AFK sign… LOL. xD
