Personally i like this, I was pleasantly surprised when i used it and i was like HEY you’re moving!!! what you doing!!! Cuz i didn’t read notes. Well, It won’t affect hard hitting aoe bosses/mobs cuz they’ll get like one shot anyway lol, plus u have other phantasms who are already in melee ish range anyway, Just treat Warden as another melee phantasm. It’s good if it actually lands its damage AND projectile defense/reflection. and then its a plus that itll hit again if it doesn’t die. I see no problem!

On another person’s note, it would be interesting if she or something disrupted magic flow enough, that our own magic skills are affected. LOL imagine how epic it would be if all of a sudden we couldn’t use certain skills and had to go solve the issue with like literal hack and slash stupidity hahaha that would be pretty …… fun. and innovative imo. feels like we should actually care about what Scarlet is doing because it’s going to affect us rather than be another LS grind.

Thaumanova has tremendous implications for core lore of the game, a lot of concepts including space/time/dimensions is involved in Thaumanova. Scarlet should not be in the foundation of such significant lore. She also learned from various races and factions including Inquest, it does not make sense that she was such a large part of the Inquest lore.

- Why selectively human t3 cultural and why light armor specifically? What happened to the cultural concept?

- The flames are not dyeable, we have plenty of flame armor, this does not work with different color combinations. I do not want it

- Do not change my t3 light cultural armor. I spent tons of gold on some of the pieces and have established my signature look that i love. I do not want ANY changes to it at all. I do not want the flame armor, colors doesn’t work and it doesn’t fit my character. Please do not change my cultural armor. It will destroy my character’s look.

- Solutions? Refund the gems and put out another normal skin just like the medium and heavy armor instead. That is the only way. It doesn’t even make sense to have a charr or asura wear human cultural light armor. Refunding gems, has been done in the past, and can be done no problem again. Maybe auto refund to all players who’ve purchased it.

- We should also demand a statement or official message regarding this issue from Anet. It is quite a huge issue as it triggers much more complexities to come. We need an explanation from anet for their reasoning as this hurts the trust we have for the company n its ability to make judgements and design armor.

So I just tried to solo the dungeon tonight after i got home, got to the ooze boss smoothly and then i realized tiny oozes heals it after getting it to 50% and wondering why it kept healing, and having ignored Dessa’s tips, but i ran out of time tonight to attempt the boss again. I can imagine it being so much easier if i had a friend to focus tiny oozes or maybe vice versa. Has anyone solo’d it already? Is the rest of the story path solo-able? Is there a guide up somewhere to tell what to do/what comes after it?

Yes. It took long enough but people finally realised Great-sword is a bad, low DPS weapon. Now we just need the pug meta to catch up.

Apparently, someone did Sword OF vs Pistol OF calculations and though sword OF has “higher dps” directly/base damage, the pistol has more repeats and with a 50% crit chance, it actually can do more damage + more bleeds, + combo fields. So technically, they would be equal, if the pistol doesn’t end up doing more damage.

Sword has faster recharge so the DPS evens out slightly in favour of swordsman.

Yes it has a slighter faster recharge, that’s why the two weapons are equal. Because pistol has repeating rounds that crit and bleed, while the sword has faster recharge but only hits once. And then you also have the duelist consideration that it stands more survivable being in range. While in PvP/WvW situations, you might be an easier target with duelist, as the swordsman would put heavy melee pressure/distraction

Lol, pistol is actually better in PvP/WvW cuz of the stuns/dazes CC etc
I think pistol is better in general if you don’t need that block to play with
crits, bleeds, etc, CC on non-defiant targets, pretty nice

But still depends on your play style and what your other weapon set is.

I like sword phantasm in WvW/PvP too it puts tremendous melee pressure on the target, so it’s quite effective. If I’m running a second weapon set that benefits from stacking some melee pressure on them so i can get away, that’d be nice

The concept is that the stats that show up in hero panel even after buffs as long as it changes those numbers applies to your illusions too, but what about Sharpening Stones, Maintenance Oil, Tuning Crystals? They change your stats in the hero panel. I’d expect them to apply too?

It really depends on your own play style and personality. When I started playing mesmer, it just CLICKED, I could do anything and everything on a mesmer well and better than all other classes, it just fit ME not just as a player but also as a person, every habit and way of thinking just worked. So your choice between guardian and mesmer, I don’t think it ever comes down to understanding the class. I’ve mained other things for a while but it just didn’t click that much for me. No matter how much understanding you have for any given situation, it’s how you are, how you think, how you feel, what your instincts are etc.

To gather all this is also a huge undertaking, there is already a list of builds for diff purposes and onwards. But there’s literally a lot of play styles and variation each player makes for themselves for any given situation. Just because it works for someone else doesn’t mean it will work for you and even if you understand how someone else does it, doesn’t mean it will affect your own choice between mesmer/guardian/other classes imo.

To MASTER any class, isn’t about understanding or builds or skills or anything at all, it’s more about whether you are naturally adept at that class style and mechanics. When you are, then any situation with some practice you will master it and perform well

Trading Post not working since last update

TP has never worked properly consistently. I tried to use Disk Utility as someone suggested on another thread and cleared all cookied processes that happens when Guild Wars 2 runs it worked for a week but now that process doesn’t even show up anymore and the problem is there again.

I also followed the data trick, but there is no such Guild Wars 2 folder in my Application Support even with hidden folder command executed in Terminal and whatnot… Don’t know.

Anyway, Anet really needs to fix the TP. The TP browser design in general is poor even for PC players. I ran on PC before and it was still laggy and so forth.

I reckon a computer restart might help but that shouldn’t be the only way

i dont think the level should be reset at all! why bother?! why 30 as well?

i think if a lvl 50 attempts lvl 50 and finds it much diff than they were used to. then they will adapt to it themselves, let them figure it out themselves? they might try a lower level to get used to it or whatnot

I haven’t read through every post but I feel that I’d try this but, i’d want more damage, especially since you seem to just have straight damage.

I heard something about armor any more than 2700-2800? is wasted stats because it caps sort of and doesn’t affect inc damage as much? not sure if this is true.

But for me I’ve felt that nothing more than 2.5k is necessary, but that might be because of having a decoy or blink avail. But you do have your staff which is so powerful for defense anyway, I feel you can reduce some toughness and go full or close to full zerker gear.

Other than that, it sounds like it might be fun, but might be too clunky and feel too naked for my ninja playstyle personally. I seem to always have blink and/or decoy at least.

But yeah i think you can opt for more damage. But yeah you’re trading a lot of, reflection/projectile defense, stealth stun breaks and positioning (only have phase retreat)

Just yeah why can’t humans have civil war?

You have factions who are completely against Queen Jennah, in fact the Ministry probably wants her thrown out. If she has no children or successors who can take the royal throne, what’s going to happen then? Who will be fighting for power of the government? You have a little Ebonhawke and then people who might just be against human-charr treaty like the separatist/terrorists, but there may be entire factions hiding who still really really want to retake Ascalon, drive the Charr out, clear the ghosts (if that’s even possible) and build a new city? idk. There’s also a whole bandit / White Mantle network, which is enormous bc you see bandits like everywhere, especially massive forts in Brisban (and especially that fort with the level 80 bandits guarding it that received a mention in a WP video…. that guards the next map…. ) To me, the humans are likely to fall into civil war, though I don’t know if humans can ever be wiped out so fast, since they are like quite persistent little fellows

Asura / Inquest would have conflicts but it’ll probably take a much longer time. or their experiments and inventions create some sort of apocalyptic catastrophe.

I feel like the Sylvari and Nightmare Court don’t struggle against each other that hard, it feels like they’d rather try to convince people to join the light side / dark side, rather than full out war. There will still be conflict, every race has their own.

Charr, for the most part I think Renegades and Flame Legion isn’t so big of a threat than it appears in game. They’ve literally defeated those factions with their “united” cross-legion technology and military prowess.. massive Black Citadel, and their culture is very disciplined and well trained etc. Though you always have conflicts, it almost feels like…. Japan… in a way… like it’s not an open conflict, they value family and comradery, they work hard together and don’t want to be shunned, and the violent extremists are quickly pushed out or eliminated or whatnot. Each legion also tries to keep to itself though they don’t LIKE each other, they will tolerate each other for the most part. And when conflict arises I feel it will be a limited scope, like one certain warband has an issue and is ticked off or something. It’ll have to be like an assassination of a tribune or something big, like kill rytlock or something for Legions to get really kitten ed off? Charr military strength is quite strong and united imo. though there’s conflict I feel they are a self-sustaining nation that can subdue the Flame Legion forces. After all, the Flame Legion is hated not because of Elder Dragons, if Dragons are out of the picture, they will still push back the Flame Legion.

I choose to put some trust in Anet lol I just hope they’re communicating in the company and know the big picture have got everything laid out and written down and are organized. Whatever we dont understand cuz we only get a tip of the iceberg, I don’t mind as long as they can say, they know what they’re doing and they got some ideas in place.

But with regards to the human gods, I think their re-explanation makes sense, it’s like the world is flat thing, when people or races or whoever began to discover there’s more outside the box and what they believe was really a myth, then they will record a more accurate historic record. With “so many years” past since gw1, perhaps it will seem like the old history and old beliefs didn’t quite exist and we are sort of in a new universe. But, it can be justified and it could make sense

Like I said, most of the “time references” we have now are actually based on game mechanics. Here’s another point:

According to Anet’s real lore, their timeline actually has gaps of a few years between significant events recorded etc, pre-game. In the book Sea of Sorrows, we see Cobiah Marriner and Lion’s Arch destroyed from the rising of Zhaitan and Orr, and gathering survivors many things happened, noble life of a pirate, building a new Lion’s Arch, establishing its system and defending against human politics etc with the first battle of Claw Island… these things took place over many years in the book and most of his lifetime. Certainly human-charr peace treaties, founding of a massive coalition like the Pact, the construction of a fortress like Fort Trinity, creating and deploying of airships, helicopters, tanks, and gathering so many troops; starving zhaitan’s minions, they’re not things that happen over night. This is the same for pre-game background lore which is much more realistic. But once in game we have this time flow all compressed, just purely because of game mechanics, and the need to have content to play and so forth. I think if this was all converted to novels instead of game, it would play out a more realistic timeline. Of course, with the pressure of the Dragon threats, production and productivity would be faster, but the Pact and Zhaitan stuff alone would likely take a year or more itself

Essentially, what I’m saying is although we operate on the plane of the game now, is that basically the game’s flow of time is in fact unrealistic, for example, according to Anet’s own pre-gw2 lore and whatever time references we have in game, are slightly distorted just for gameplay purposes.

Realistic Timeline / Years

Anet decided the game starts in 1325 while we align it with our human earth years. however this creates some discrepancies imo. it feels as if lore does not agree with game mechanics or vice versa. (it never really has for that matter but it becomes a slight issue if recording the game happenings down. prior to the start of the game on timeline we notice there’s more realistic few years of gaps between each recorded event, at least it feels like nothing else has happened that we know of)

Why I believe we are actually beyond 1326AE.. I feel the game and it’s universe has a separate passing of time. Of course you can argue the game mechanics show day and night switches every few hours while the server time rather than some fantasy sundial or whatever system is used as reference for time and game mechanics of course are separate HOWEVER, I see these things right off the bat:

- Human-Charr peace treaty and summits and taking place, separatists and renegade near Ebonhawke etc they are stuck in that manner in game in preparation to ally to fight the dragons

- but we have things in other parts of the game like Queens Jubilee which is like celebrating the peace treaties and whatever cross cultural racial stuff with ambassadors from diff cities

- Lions Arch is attacked and the PACT is newly formed through personal story and establish fort trinity and attack on Zhaitan

- they combine technologies mobilize large amounts of troops, create airships etc

- u see the pact operating in diff areas of the map combating different dragons while it seems like you’ve just founded the PACT with your dear Trahearne and fought the very first Dragon as the pact

- obviously cleansing of Orr in the personal story also never cleansed Orr

These are just a few examples of many many more that are game mechanics because obviously new players still get to progress through the events and so forth.

However to me, the things around the maps represent the simultaneous flow of time, meaning these are actually things that took place over a long time or at least some time already. Things that didn’t all take place in a year and is just there at the same time bc of game mechanics.

To me though the beginning of the game is 1325, I am very convinced we’re looking at Tyria at level 80 endgame that is already years past. It’s not overnight that a treaty can be established and signed nor overnight that the Destiny’s Edge will get back together nor the PACT being established or Orr being cleansed. The starving and weakening of Zhaitan obviously took a long time as well. non stop living stories every two weeks isn’t something that can happen in the real immersed lore time. The game mechanics might look like it’s still 1326 but it is actually representing a long flow of time simultaneously. all we have to do is click a waypoint and button with no need for preparations or realistic efforts

it’s easier to use our human years as reference But If I had to guess I would believe something like at least 3-5 years already past is more realistic in terms of lore for the endgame level 80. Doesn’t our lore time feel strange? human reference, gameplay and game lore all in conflict

yeah i run gs/staff in pve…. very rarely, only if i have like a full melee team that doesnt need me really to do much or im solo-ing a crazy boss that i cant really get near which isn’t very ever… but i mean if you feel like just sticking with it and having a little fun, do what u want, just its clunky in many pve aspects. Open world can be done with it, just casually i guess

it’s fine in pvp and wvw, just get the feel for its playstyle, get into the rhythm and optimize it

Hey thanks for the reply and giving me some hope for GS/staff.

I looked at your build. Sword/sword is very different from staff, and I’m quite inexperienced, so I’m not sure what changes you make when you go GS/staff. Seems the traits would need to be quite different.. also, isn’t the staff more reliant on condition damage to be effective?

Any chance you might consider spelling out how you make that “monster” GS/staff variation? In nice small words for us newbies.

I just use the same traits, i like to be “versatile” which means to some people ineffective in diff situations but I don’t think so, i feel very balanced and stable like this and I can swap weapons on the fly. For traits, I switch the master trait for staff CD reduction and swap out the Dueling Adept trait to Phantasmal fury for more bleeds. You don’t need to go for condi damage as your staff is only for defensive purposes, though the condition damage by default it already has will help your damage anyway, if you catch your enemy in a chaos storm while giving yourself boons, and ur staff clones throwing more condi on them. it’s a temporary distraction, before you go back to your gs. Your staff phantasm will also do some nice damage, though not spectacular. Staff is a medium to CLOSE QUARTERS weapon, when they get close you can tank some damage with your chaos storm combos and get out of the way, keep swapping weapons to make distance with the phase retreat and it’s a powerful cycle of non stop kiting

Go power / straight damage in this case. Or you could choose to go blackwater / condi style, but stick with gs/staff. the gs would be for illusions stacking bleeds, or if you have a sigil on it that will help with condi then sure. gs/staff synergy would still be very much a kiting machine!

PvE (and some WvW) GS/staff build?

I’ve used gs/staff in wvw almost exclusively actually and it is a monster imo and it fits well with my play style. It is a kiting machine and there’s just no way other classes can get close to you or land those heavy hits. I’ve had no problems for example with the op warrior hammer builds that everyone is complaining about or thieves and the like.

My build is in my siggy, but I swap it out for gs/staff, and adjust for a staff trait, and change out the blade training for wvw. The PU is basically a staple to just tack on to a build to have that toughness/boons. I have -42% inc damage, aegis and regen whenever i need to go defensive. This would be basically after you complete a gs dps chain and your enemy gets closer (cuz most actually do get closer and most roaming players you face are more melee), you switch to staff for defense (+my hydromancy sigils or whatever you feel is necessary) and catch them in chaos storm while you blink away, break your stuns, etc etc disappear. Pretty much the stealths and stuff keeps you alive.

You can run full zerker gear with those traits and you will do fine in roaming and have a terrific amount of damage. It is not a burst build for sure though, it is a heavy sustained build and I’ve outlasted alot of fights, including 1vX.

i primarily choose to go gs/staff for wvw, it is a lot of kiting fun and pretty crazy imo against most things…

How to find real mesmer??

Posts above are correct, but one thing I want to say is, this is indeed how the class works. Each class is unique. Tell thieves to stop stealthing as well, or elementalists to stop changing attunement, or engineers to stop using kits. Just because one swings around a sword in someone’s face doesn’t mean all of them should.

If you consider this cheating and remove all this “cheating” the mesmer will just be a standing target. The mesmer requires all the illusions, blinks, stealth all of these witty tricky things to survive. Take all that away, and then the joke will be on you. You won’t be “fighting like a man” because you’re hitting a defenseless player

All I can say is there are many successful good players of other classes who will be able to kill mesmers, as annoying as it could be. Practice against them, it sounds like you haven’t fought so many of them. The more fights you have against them, the more you will notice a mesmer’s movements. Most will dodge and move around a lot, and of course use different skills.

Builds with a lot of aoe will tend to injure the real mesmer in stealth or not, and so will condition builds continue to tick at mesmer’s life.

Become capable in general against all classes, and mesmers will just be another one on your list

while I was levelling and even now at maxed out gear I challenge myself no matter what content I do. in pve levelling I went to maps 5 levels higher and solo’d groups of mobs. same level is better but I ALWAYS solo swarms. that to me makes you a better player at least puts you on your feet for that capacity. single target fights are extremely boring. I will only feel good when I push myself so I can barely survive but most of the time with the Mesmer class it is extremely capable of soloing lots of content.

on the other hand there is almost never a time that you don’t accidentally pull nearby mobs . you’re likely to have two or three at one time in a lot of places. so AoE in PvE is important

same with champs sometimes you will have extra adds that spawn and you need to deal with it and I don’t even have to switch targets when I let my aoe deal with it

for survivability bc I push myself so much I use staff sword focus, which again is good synergy bc staff is actually a close quarters weapon, bounce and chaos storm both protecting and damaging the swarm at the same time with stun breaks and displacement it’s just great before u jump bak in for your power bursts. otherwise I swap around to whatever is best when I don’t need survivability

but really in pve bc the content is mostly so easy why wouldn’t you push yourself ? You could rush right into the middle of 20 risen and see if you can finish the event myself. soloing dungeons are always fun as well

I’m just not a min max speed run kind of person that is too repetitive and dull for me

if anything id recommend for players in PvE to go AoE and do more than just an easy single target

u can use the warden effectively with some skill and keep ur mobs in place. u get the full warden damage off which is a ton of damage with combos like your sword leap immob and just being there with ur warden so the mobs stick tight to you while you evade and or block attacks. once they ate the damage you can see what to do from there but most of the time they’re dead

in group events however a gs is useful for fast damage and tagging. it is a piercing beam that will tag more than one enemy without needing to actually run to mobs to cleave them when ur out of phantasms to cast. you only have one blink and sword leap at 600 range but countless times while doing group events mainly issues with zergs killing things too fast there’s no way u can make it from 1200 or more range into the mobs to tag every time or like a nearly dead champ. it helps to have that extra gs range to tag

of course ur talking about a 100% success rate of dodges and blocks when solo levelling full melee as well. if soloing champs or even two champs at the same time and tough situations like swarms of 20 risen which I frequently do, and those swarms all attacking at different intervals some ranged some with condi and cc some melee, no you will not have 100% invulnerability by dodging evades distortion block stun etc some damage will seep through and can still pose a threat so it helps to have a ranged option to duck out of. but if I need survivability which isn’t that often unless u play like me which is basically challenge yourself with the toughest things you could ever find, I’d bring out a staff. staff synergises well bc it’s largely a close quarters weapons with the bounce and chaos storm on u and on mobs at same time for defense on you and illusions combo field and damage as well as the extra stun breaker and displacement even when immobilized etc otherwise if you aren’t in danger then yes you can run your full melee for max damage or whatever you feel comfortable with

swordsman and pistols are great HOWEVER, they are mainly single target focuses and CC from pistols would not be so useful against champs.

I find that in pve you’re going to get a lot of groups of mobs, large swarms or even just you getting in the fray will pull extra mobs. so for Max aoe damage and projectile defense focus is really good. it has the highest total damage of all phantasms. it will take some skill to get mobs to eat it all.

but not too much skill. pve mobs will stick to you if they’re melee, aggro them all run to the ranged mobs if there are and make sure they all follow then pop ur warden phantasms, blurred frenzy, sword leap immobilize to keep them there while u dodge out or move for a little breather or switch weapons. on the other hand you can use the curtain to pull mobs against a wall or something to bunch them up then warden immobilize blurred frenzy etc. those together will deal huge amounts of aoe damage right away and can kill a lot of the mobs you’re against which is necessary to guarantee survival too when being swarmed.

if survivability is any issue at all get a staff as secondary weapon and it synergies well as you can drop chaos storm on your melee illusions after you’re done a sword focus combo to give them aegis etc and daze and CC the mobs you got grouped up and you are free to blink out and kite.

gs for back up ranged weapon but it is a long range weapon meaning ur mobs likely will scatter and chase you or illusions etc.

sword/sword has a nice block which is useful and a phantasm that evades.

but basically if you can manage placement and CC use sword focus

No, I understand pyro what you mean and i know that the dev’s are saying the same thing but just for arguments sake. The only thing is, i can only see savage leap (and we’re reducing this to 600 range as the original skill not the full warrior leap) having issues when it crosses a gap that we wouldn’t be able to blink across. A warrior leap for example cannot clear a big rock or cliff face in front of it it would kinda push off to the side or something, that’s all fine and dandy imo. I can see how it would be an issue if there is a slight fence, i’ve savage leap’d one before, in that case, sure our blink would fail. That should be something the player would already expect though.

But at the same time, the clone skill bugs out running up a slight incline while i can blink that no problem with no pathing issues. I think the actual teleportation pathing is much more tolerant than you might think it is. The clone skill just has a huge pathing issue while the actual blink can be used in many more situations.

But i really dont undrstand why the clone can’t run up a slight incline anyway, if it is a pathing issue, then my blink wouldn’t work either right? Yet it does. I only see blink not working when there is an actual invisible wall or actual different vertical plane/elevations that are segmented/separate, rather than a gradual modification/warp in elevation.

cuz we don’t care about staring at men!!!! XDDD

And then you have mesmers that make pretty purple/pink skill effects,
which again limits the number of male characters.

I think the point about destiny’s edge is what she’s trying to get at here

also if it has to be romantic with regards to a female human there are actually random NPCs in open world that have dialogue that says they’re infatuated with him LOL I just saw a tumblr post with a screenshot of it. I believe he’s supposed to be this handsome good looking guy that everyone loves.

Wait, question, for the guardian sword teleport, can they do it with a slight uphill slant? I also remember using the actual Blink skill up a slight or not so slight uphill slants, as long as its not game breaking like right over a rock or cliff face or around a corner without LoS or over a valley/gap, the blink usually still works, but in this case the clone does not and it bugs out like getting stuck and stuff even tho its just a slight uphill. I don’t think having an actual savage leap will break the game/blink, if the savage leap can make it there (savage leap with the same 600 range), then your normal blink should as well (like i mentioned, i’ve blinked up slight hills), therefore your swap skill should still teleport u there, without any issues nor will it be OP or game breaking or path breaking imo

I don’t have too much issue with the warden placement. I USED to hate it but its not so bad, basically this is strange but all im doing currently with these chamber instances or the dungeon, is run into the middle of the mobs, if its tough i’d stealth first, then LOL cuz most / half of pve mobs are melee they’ll rush me then i pop my warden, blurred frenzy burst, which keeps me from taking any damage, and weird cuz this works, i do sword 3, and swap right away like right in melee so they’re immobilized for a few more seconds on the warden eating the full chain, while i switch to staff which has hydromancer aoe chill, where i chaos storm and phase retreat out. that is just… SO FUN and fast and so much damage. For other situations where kiting is necessary thats when i feel theres like an option for gs or staff or both or whatever

But yeah… ahhhh lol i feel that the look of my mesmer now is kinda dark so swords fit its look. so ill just pop on my swords for looks i guess :< that makes me feel bad tho.

Does anyone know the math though, like a relative estimate, if a group of mobs are eating your chaos storm and staff phantasm + phantasm clones for the full duration. Let’s just say like a single target right now. as opposed to mirror blade + gs izerker + autoattack? (talking about base damage)

I know a lot of PvE people on TC lol TC has great community for PvE so I might suggest that. or do we need an empty server where we will all make it in?

but I think maps will be overflow or at least we can get an overflow so we can just do a tequatl thing and invite people into the overflow slowly n take time to prepare our map

NA or EU will be an issue indeed, NA/EU overflow is separate right? maybe we can run two events simultaneously?

I don’t have a problem with needing to target for the clone skill either since it’s a clone skill. and if it can’t blink you there then It won’t like the blink skill and laugh at the player for being dumb lol I just think anet should be easily able to just copy the warrior leap skill onto the clones and replace that unique crazy fast run and pathing complicated stuff

thanks guys lol I’ve been running gs/staff WvW roaming build bc it’s a kiting machine that ppl just can’t get near has been effective to outlast difficult 1vXs n so on. open world doesn’t rly quite matter but in the tower i brought doubts to mind as to running my gs and I often will main staff in the tower. gs/staff bc it’s so kitey didn’t quite work in close quarters combat so I mean I’m used to adapting to diff weapon sets and situations and ur right I will have all weapons in inventory anyway.

this is why it’s a stupid dilemma bc there rly isn’t a problem play wise but it just bugs me to no end that I haven’t made up my mind. like I can run around with staff in open world where I don’t necessarily need it. obviously it’s also versatile enough to tackle anything that’s more dangerous. so well, it’s versatile. like basically I feel like putting away my gs right now and it doesn’t feel good at all lol it feels horrible when after a intense fight with staff in my weapon set and just kinda put it aside and re equip a gs in a city just cuz it looks nice. it’s like just ugh I’m such a poser lol xD that’s where my problem is. if I can play gs often in most content then it’s justified and I feel better for having that shiny gs on my back.

I think the root of the problem lies in that I’ve always loved the staff and it’s fun and powerful in a variety of things. I grew up my Mesmer on it lol and It intrinsically is my play style but I tried to ignore that and go with a shiny legendary skin that I like also cuz I like the idea of using swords. it’s aesthetic and concept vs play and performance. which do I value more… I don’t know xD

or maybe cuz I pve more, gs/staff feels dumb sometimes, if I WvW more I would feel more identity in gs/staff since that’s my WvW roaming build.

idk it’s kinda a thing for myself to figure out but I just needed to hear some math if there is any and if you yourself treasure aesthetic over play at all or vice versa

Lol! yeah aethestic issues… like i mean i know what each does and how to play them, but its just which i should commit to and feel good about it. If i commit to staff i need to feel like im not missing out a lot XD but on gs it feels just clunkier or less versatile in some places , but yeah it hits harder…. i dont have the bouncing trait line… i need to justify my choice in PvE ><

A redundant question with redundant answers! And a stupid rant at this. But lately i’m in a dilemma cuz i bought kasmeer’s pretty staff on the other hand i have my legendary gs… so i feel so obligated to use gs, actually to use both… sigh, you know, problems with aesthetics.

But of course PvE mobs all cluttered up and bunched, especially in the new Tower content, a sword/focus is just super awesome as well. While playing the tower content, sometimes gs feels clunky and slow, sometimes it puts you in danger when you’re out of stunbreaks and have to miss a beat for a sec. So I really enjoyed running staff and sword/focus. It just has this great synergy and is so fun in the current situations (i’m talking exclusively about solo-ing everything right now cuz i haven’t done it with a zerg or party yet actually… empty overflows and just easier to just hop in whenever i have time)

But I’m a power phantasm build. … and legendary gs….

i know some players even zerker phantasm build players choose to use staff. It can be said the staff phantasm works with a power boost as well… but it’s just so anti-PvE-mindset of straight dps dps dps damage = good. The GS zerker def does more damage lol. At the same time even on a zerker build, your staff clones (and autoattack) constantly applies conditions.

So because i’m no math expert and know the mesmer class only by feel and instinct, i always switch weapons depending on situations to get that synergy and perfection of performance regardless of number optimization… i used to main and level up with sword/focus staff, but i switched around to diff weaponsets and builds including gs/staff, gs sword/sword, staff sword/torch, sword/pistol gs etc… and am versatile with them… and have a WvW mindset… but still in this case, can someone help me with my dilemma for PvE, cuz i’m a perfectionist in terms of loyalty and i don’t like to feel like i’m two faced and just switch to gs cuz its pretty when i’m not fighting or something… i kinda just wanna make up my heart LOL

the question is, for experienced mesmers and math experts, do staff clone conditions + phantasms + chaos storm on top of mobs ramp up enough damage that isn’t too bad compared to izerker + autoattacks/whatever, that would make me feel better or justified for maining staff sword/focus, even if i could technically survive fine with gs?

On the other hand, gs or staff users, would you go for the feeling / performance synergy / play style of the weapons over damage in PvE (or WvW)?

I’m sure this is ridiculously stupid for asking. You can tell me just play how you want or how it feels or you could be all hardcore PvE and be like zerker, max dps. Just tell me how you feel about my stupid dilemma :P

thats true hmmm lol well in open world pve there’s our super fun tele gun leaps to exploit with mwahahahaha actually were one of the few? classes that don’t hve a literal air gaining clearing gap close/distance traveler I believe? like surely it can’t pose that big of a problem? idk I mean if they just say it’s out of range or whatever if u can’t teleport there or just simply screw up the skill like trying to blink between two ledges that can’t be pathed. tho that’s some work on their end to apply that code again

well thing is they seemed to design it as a unique skill the super fast running an pathing and all, if they just scrap this and put it on warrior leap, I think it will make it not so complicated. basically I think they chose to be unique with it and decided to code something complicated where they coulda chose something else

if not my initial suggestion that it just pops at the target how bout making the clone just do a warrior sword leap (real leap!) since illusions seem to always represent another class or whatever. copy the warrior skill onto the clone, cuz that skill works even on a uphill it’ll gain some air and not bug with the terrain

lol well then I think the dungeon instance should be a bit harder to solo than that. I have no real motivation to do it in a party now that I know how easy it is to solo, other than to try it as a party and have fun if it is considered fun. I love challenging content so I really was hyped up to fight this boss solo and see how well I can do but was kinda disappointed. it needs a slight buff imo, it should’ve hit spawned more mobs perhaps if the boss itself doesn’t hit harder cuz I know some classes who have to stay melee might not be able to tank too much more damage

i actually got stuck in overflows almost exclusively where there weren’t many ppl and I solo’d everything lol I had to choose staff and sword focus for fights and sword torch focus for running though , weapon selection is just as important sometimes
