Not everyone wants to TPvP all the time. If I’m just doing dailies, or trying out a new build, or just want to play some no stress GW2 then I hotjoin. Guild members should be able to play together in hotjoins, it’s all for fun anyway!

EDIT:
If devs read this thread, my point on making the game more social is pretty ligitamate, and there are a lot of seemingly easy ways to go about it — Joining guildies in hotjoins is only one avenue.

Rank Point Inflation

PvP players have never had very much. Only recently have we started seeing any sort of real rewards that we can take to the rest of the game. With the weekend thing going on, where we’re all getting +500 rank points for wins, I’ve realized something: The reason why pvp players keep feeling like we lose is because rank points are inflating (increase the supply of rank points = inflation — similar to money inflation).

If my pvp play is supposed to be worth something, and rank points approximate my play time then my time played up to present day is worth way less than it is at this moment. I’ve heard bear is the new tiger for skilled player and this rank point inflation is why.

I’m not saying we should get a back pay in rank points … I don’t feel entitled to them. I just think everyone should know what’s happening.

Guilds have very large rosters, I’m not adding 400 people to my friends list. This would be really nice for pvp guilds to get a real community feel, etc.

Well that one event was anecdotal, but I consistently see fewer players on Skyhammer maps than others.

there also may be some confirmation bias involved.

I also take the forum polls on the map with a grain of salt because I think there is a certain demographic that frequents the forum which might not actually represent the whole (statistically it can’t be very far off but it might be far off enough to bias the results).

Yeah, for a poll to be truly representative of the population it needs to be given to a randomly selected group.

All of the maps have their differences and they all require a slightly modified strategy for a team to be successful:

- Foefire has lord (worth 150 pts when killed) and very large cap points
- Kyhlo has the treb and a lot of Z-dimension play.
- Niflhel is basically pve to win.
- Capricorn has underwater play and a cannon.
- Spirit watch has the orb.
- Temple forces you to be aware of buff timers.
- Skyhammer has the hammer and disappearing floors when you walk on them.

Skyhammer isn’t that different from every other map — you need to cap points, hold them and win your fights. A lot of people complain that they get yanked down a hole by a stealthed thief or an engi with tool kit. The truth is that if you have good positioning and map awareness you won’t get pulled down a hole (you can see the holes flicker before you get pulled so just dodge roll … iirc just moving will often cause scorpion wire to miss or not pull you properly). Bringing stability will also save your bacon.

At high level PvP this game (most games for that matter) is more about mind games and being unpredictable than about cheap tricks and cheese builds. Don’t be a scrub and you’ll learn to appreciate Skyhammer a lot more.

I will say however, that the hammer should probably be dodgeable — but that’s a very minor grudge for me.

Scrubs with no map awareness and poor positioning hate skyhammer. Personally I like Skyhammer and think that it’s a fairly high skill map — I would even like to see it in tpvp rotations to mix up the stagnant cap/rotation passive play metagame.

Hi Guys,

Lately I’ve had one big gripe about the functionality of the guild window. I have a PvP guild and I would like to be able to follow people to the hotjoins they’re in. You can do this with people on your friends list, but not for people in the same guild.

When you’re trying to play together more (granted its hotjoins) this would be a really nice feature for guilds and I think it would get people playing together more.

It’s an MMO — give us more ways to be social.

That’s the risk of going into TPvP without a premade 5. You should probably expect to lose more if you’re not premade.

Mesmers usually wait until the treb is down to portal/repair so they don’t waste the CD.

Which is why you wait 50 to 60 seconds before killing the treb. Otherwise, it’s far more important to simply put pressure on the trebber than it is to actually kill the treb. They cannot use treb if they are constantly being attacked.

Why would a mesmer drop portal before the treb is down?

If I leave the treb at 1 hit, someone will just treb with it and when it gets taken down, that’s when the mesmer portals.

What sucks is that you get the notification “enemy has got their repair kit” and then instantly “enemy treb repaired”. Doesn’t allow for much counter play when you have no time.

Using portal means that you don’t have to actually run the repair kit to the portal site. It saves you travel time with the repair kit. Time that every other class has to run.

The mesmer could portal someone else with the kit — that’s not very efficient for team fights though.

Is portal repairing the treb on Kyhlo too strong?

No other class can do it, and there’s no respawn timer on the repair kit. So no matter how many times you kill the treb, a mesmer can have it back up within literally seconds.

I refise to play on skyhammer that why i waste 1/5 of my pvp time becouse of mapool. But not only my time but also other 9 players.

Bro, thief is one of the best skyhammer classes…. you just gotta do it right.

Believe it or not, Skyhammer is one of my favourite maps. People may not want to believe it, but it actually DOES take some level of skill to dominate consistently on Skyhammer.

Asurans (back in GW1) used to be pretty racist elitists, calling everying that was dumber than them (usually humans) bookahs!

I realize that racism is a pretty toxic thing in our IRL society — Is that why I don’t hear people getting called bookahs by random asuran NPCs anymore?

I used to get a pretty good laugh out of asurans (and they’re still hilarious), but I thought that the bookah thing was a nice part of their culture back in the day. It was something memorable that made them stand out.

G9X has this issue. Lets get this fixed ANET.

Left clicking workings fine, so presumably I could position my camera with left click and then right click to make my character to run that way while I hold W or whatever…

Recently bought a Steelseries Sensei mouse about a week ago and haven’t had this problem since the purchase.

(my G9X was getting kind of old and needed replacing anyway)

Pretty much every aspect of my build got buffed (except infiltrator’s signet … but who cares about that nerf anyway).

I’m worried that the thief is too strong and will get nerfed back into oblivion, but I’ll live it up while I can.

Sometimes when I roll with a zerg I scout for the commander, keeping an eye out for incoming red dots and just trying to be around for the tower cap, etc.

I don’t really call that zerging — its more roaming @ a radius around the commander…

Thieves are GREAT at roaming and doing small group stuff, but in zergs all I seem to ever do is:

- Be a glassy blast finisher bot
- Tag everything b/c lets face it — Dagger storm + SB = Tag tons of stuff
- Spike/stomp stragglers

My thief is allergic to PTV gear … all glass all the time bros. (for the most part anyway)

3) Remove all pvp rewards from rank progression add them in your new system as intended except for finishers.

Removing the existing finishers sounds a little extreme — you guys should come up with another way to implement the current rank based finishers so that all of the man hours that went into their creation aren’t wasted. (and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who wants to see what Dragon looks like!!)

Also, I like how it takes a commitment to the game to unlock the current ranks/finishers. I just don’t want to see the high end rewards (analogous to shark/phoenix finishers) be too easy to get.

Money in win chests would definitely be nice, even if it’s not as lucrative as Frostgorge farming.

As far as model sizes go, as long as hitboxes are the same on all classes I’m not going to complain too much. Don’t get me wrong, I dislike dealing with norn mesmers as much as anyone, but being a bigger, more obvious target has its downfalls… My norn thief knows this first hand!

Currently, what I like about sPvP rewards (the title and finisher) is that you can’t just purchase them with gems. For the most part (skyhammer farms, etc. excluded) you need to work for your rank … and your skill.

Title says most of it.

Guild Wars 1 gave PVPers balth faction, which could be used to buy zkeys (these keys sold at roughly the same price as ecto’s — the stackable currency used in gw1). Because of this, pvp could actually make you a fair amount of money in GW1 — Everyone lived in a land of prosperity, double rainbows and cheap taxes.

Nowadays, I’m farming tons of glory (I have a character named the glory tractor for this purpose) and am running out of things to spend it all on. Finisher’s and titles are cool enough to keep ME playing spvp, but I can pretty well guarentee you that the playerbase will jump WAY up if spvp provided a means to make some gold.

What would be cool to see?
Gold in tourney win chests?
PvE items that can be purchased with glory? (i’d like to see account bound black lion keys sold for glory)

Thoughts?

You guys are mostly coming from a very tPVP perspective — if you coordinate properly with your team in vent/TS/mumbro than dropping the banner isn’t so bad — and if you still miss, well then its your own kitten fault.

But in solo queue, or hotjoins, you can’t really coordinate very well and, as a result, miss the banner all the time.

Unfortunately (and understandably) its very hard for ANET to perform a skill balance and find the optimum happy place for hotjoins, solo q, tpvp, wvw and pve …

So, if you land the banner and res someone —> Full CD
If you drop the banner and fail miserably —> reduced CD (maybe 10%-20% or something on 240 seconds = still a long wait to think on how bad you are)

Implementing something like this will make the skill feel more rewarding when you land it and less of a kick in the face when you miss it … and if BF Skinner has taught the world anything it’s that getting kicked in the face may make you stop playing banners.

My biggest gripe when playing warrior while using warbanner as my elite is: when I drop the banner and the downed dude just moves out of its range before it lands (think downed thieves and ele’s). I’m not super pro and can’t always cancel the cast so…

Would it be OP if the recharge of warbanner were reduced if it didn’t res anyone?

When you miss the res you just wasted a helluva long CD for mediocre buffs that aren’t doing any ressing…

I don’t want to have to use warbanner ONLY when in vent playing tpvp… random kids in hotjoins and solo q need ressing too.
