Do you earn influence from daily log-ins if people aren’t representing?

Hey guys-

Myself and a group of real-life friends built our somewhat quirky always-a-good-time guild Super Mega Happy Fun Time and were having a hoot. Sadly, the introduction of Guild Missions has caught us off-guard: our PvE focus meant we hadn’t invested much into the Art of War tree, leaving us unable to do the new content. (Or at least start the new content and get rewarded for it.)

So our only option is to grow. We’re VERY interested in regularly doing guild missions. We also have a lot of old GW1 hands. Many of us are interested in lore. We do dungeons and fractals together as well. We level lots of alts. We drink (perhaps a bit too much) while hanging around on Vent. (We’re considering switching to Mumble.)

We don’t do speedruns. We don’t skip content. We don’t farm. If you’re looking to do 10 or 20 CoF1 runs every day, we’re probably not for you.

Yeah, nothing is wrong with that. That’s not what the OP is complaining about.

Our small guild is willing to expand our group of friends a bit for folks who’d like a more social, casual Guild Wars experience.

We do PvE and a bit of WvW. We do jumping puzzles and alt-leveling. We do bad jokes and public dancing and story mode. We do dungeons and fractals, but we don’t do speed runs. We don’t do egos and we don’t do requirements, except: have fun, help each other, and be respectful.

My guild, Super Mega Happy Fun Time may be a good fit. We’re pretty casual, mostly do PvE with a bit of WvW, and prefer to be a small guild of friends as opposed to a large guild of random people looking for max guild buffs.

Our typical night is a bit of chatter on Guild Chat to see who wants to do what… and then doing it. We do dungeons and fractals occasionally, a lot of exploring and alt-leveling, and a lot of general Tom-foolery.

Here’s my issue: wanting to watch the videos, kill all the mobs, and otherwise PLAY THE GAME (as opposed to EARN ALL THE TOKENS) does not make you a n00b.

Some of us just prefer to work for real money at our real jobs and play games for fun in our spare time. We shouldn’t be insulted for that.

Maybe it’s just because he’s answering all my questions and none of yours, but wow are you guys harsh. It’s not his job to respond to questions on forums. He’s not answering your questions because he can’t or doesn’t want to. Either way, he’s not answering.

The MF is just pure RNG. Betting on sPvP tournaments isn’t RNG. Everybody complains there’s no way to make money, this would be an interesting avenue that would also help promote sPvP as an esport.

(I personally am not a gambler and wouldn’t do it. I’m just curious as to whether it’d have an effect on the overall economy.)

Thanks for the info on ecto creation. 275,000 is quite a lot… The current supply/demand on the TP is 20k and 90k, so that should help put it into perspective.

Inflation is a really tricky topic. One important thing to understand about inflation (the EVE guys have done a great job explaining this) is that it isn’t a change in the quantity of money available, it’s a change in prices (not individual prices). It’s easy to double the money supply and not inflate the economy.

But in all seriousness, I have a couple questions, I don’t know if you can give much detail on them…

1) It sounds like you have some sort of target in mind when you “balance” the economy. Is this an inflation target (e.g. we’d like to keep inflation at or around 2%) or is it a price target (e.g. we think 1 gold should buy 3-4 ecto… which is my guess, btw)? And did you guys come up with these targets before the official release or was/is it something you’re constantly refining?

2) People have criticized ArenaNet for being very harsh with the ban-hammer, but I tend to agree with your decisions in the name of protecting the economy. I’m curious as to the size of exploits/RMT transactions that get caught in relation to the size of the economy and the amassed wealth. Meaning: if the snowflake exploit created 2 million “illegal” gold, how does that compare as a percentage to the daily/weekly/monthly gold-creation rate and how does it compare to the accumulated wealth of all players?

It’d be really cool to see numbers like “during the two days the exploit was being used, 15% of in-game value creation came from snowflake salvaging.” I’m not even sure if you guys have the data for that, but it’d be really interesting. Ditto RMT: you guys are regularly banning accounts and undoing transfers, I assume… what percentage of the economy is involved in illicit trade?

This thread is ridiculous and I don’t have time to read through all the suggestions, but here’s something I’d like to see…

Every major boss should have at least three or four “phases” where they have different movement and attack patterns. BUT HERE’S THE KEY. These phases/tactics/strategies should change at random.

So the boss might have both ranged and melee attacks that he switches up. He might single out a target and attack it or use AoE. But there should be clear tactic switches that change in some way other than “Once he hits this HP, he’ll switch to this other tactic.”

Also: covering the entire playable area with red circles might constitute a challenge, but it is by no means the fun type of challenging. Smaller AoEs with some smart targeting would be better… e.g. focus fire on the player doing the most damage, when the player hits downed, drop a bunch of AoE on the player.

Yeah, I’d like to second that request. Can we get a video showing it in the offhand? I’m a big fan of Scepter/Sword, but I don’t think you get all the effects when you use it in the offhand.

I don’t think it would ruin the game, but I do think it would reduce the incentive to “learn” your class by gradually adding in complexity.

That said, it’s 100% not happening.

Do you know what an integrated graphics card is? If he’s playing on a laptop, which it sounds like he is (and even if not, I think), it’s not so simple as removing your integrated graphics card and replacing it with a new one.

Do you know what an integrated graphics card is? It’s one built into your CPU, typically, or occasionally elsewhere on the motherboard, so it’s never as simple as removing your integrated graphics card. ;-)

To the OP: there might be some optimization that ArenaNet can do along the way to help the game perform a little better, but your best bet is:

1) If you have a desktop, look for a relatively inexpensive graphics card. For the price of about four months sub-fee in those “other” MMOs, you can get something that should help your performance quite a bit.

2) If you’re on a laptop, there’s not much you (or ArenaNet) can do. While some laptops are pretty well equipped for modern games, it’s just a weak point of laptops. They aren’t designed to play high-end 3D games, which is what GW2 is.

On randomness: I’d concede this point, and I’m actually okay if they want to enforce random fractals.

On farming: this is perhaps true, but aren’t the daily rewards the real prize in fractals? With this setup, you wouldn’t get your daily rewards, so I assume farmers would steer clear. (I’m still at low levels, so excuse my noobishness.)

For PUGs: this is perhaps true…

Really, to me, this solves a problem that myself (and I think lots of others are having): I have an hour or so, what should we do? Dungeons were already an answer for a longer time-frame (again, my group seems to take 2-3x as long as everybody else, but we’ve only finished 7 or 8 dungeon paths to this point…)

First off, I really enjoy fractals! Second, I fall somewhere between “casual” and “hardcore” on the gaming scale. I have maybe 300 hours in-game since launch and try to play 4-5 nights/week, usually about 2 hours or so. I typically play with a small group of friends I know in real life.

Problem: I enjoy fractals and want to play them, but I don’t always want to play fractals for the ~2 hours it takes for my group to complete them. (Yes, we’re n00bs because it takes us that long. Fine. We’ve only just gotten through a first run of all 9.)

Solution: Fractal Free Play mode. You play only a single fractal – you choose the fractal and the level you’d like to play (I’m agnostic on whether you level-limit based on minimum completion or not). This does not advance your fractal level completion.

This gives you a way to say, “Hey, let’s run Uncategorized quick!” Or, “I have a new build, can we try it in Urban Battleground?”

For those of us who enjoy fractals but may not always be able to devote a couple hours to them, this would be amazing.

(To answer a potential question that might come up: why can we not just agree to play one then quit? Usually my group is 4 real-life friends and a PUG. It’s hard enough to find PUGs who want to do low-level content as-is, but saying, “Oh, we’re not even going to finish” makes it that much worse.)

I created my Asuran Mesmer with the spikey hair style that includes a headband. I made the headband red at the time, but now that I have new dye, I’d love to change it. Sadly, that element must be considered part of the “character” and not the “armor,” so I can’t change it.

This happens with certain other styles as well.

For those of us maybe a bit too obsessed with our appearance, it’d be great to be able to change these elements using the dye tool.

This is an amazing summary. I can say that my girlfriend often becomes ill when playing the game and has to quit. And she’s certainly not new to gaming. Hopefully ArenaNet can help us out with this one once the most-pressing issues are ironed out.

It’s your interface size. The scaling is terrible. Set it back to normal.

But yes. Please fix this. I’d like to use the small UI for skills and still be able to read the Trading Post.
