So he shouldn’t do any of the new “challenging” boss events?
And by challenging I mean “oh look, it has more health and does more damage”.
No new mechanics.
Just more health and damage.Great job, arenanet, sure is challenging. It’s like I’m really fighting a boss in HOTW!
Do you really think Tequatl has no new mechanics? Have you played it? (And gotten past the first 25% health?)

They do not have to limit item items to get people to buy if there focus for income is not a F2P model but a B2P model so the main income will come from expansions.
1) I don’t like that minis are going away
2) So release paid expansions instead of giving us free content
I don’t see how these things are related? Even if they sell you a boxed expansion, they still won’t give you the minis for free. And if you just took your $15/month or whatever, bought gems, and converted to gold, you could have the minis and plenty left over.
www.getunicorned.com / northernshiverpeaks.org
That’s not the kind of attitude arena net has to provoke in the players with their new contents. Sure, there will always be people who don’t like the event, but clearly the majority doesn’t like it. Not to mention they removed the old Tequatl, so they kind of harmed us, who would like to ignore the event.
Even if some people enjoy it, it will be really hard for them to do it once everyone loses interest in doing it. Perhaps giving some kind of reward on failure will get their attention.
I’m under the impression you get a reward for each 25%, but I haven’t gotten that far yet, so I could be wrong.
Also: this is one dragon. There are two more dragons which you can win every time. (Claw being the harder/longer of the two.) Are they considerably harder with the patch? I don’t know. But I can’t imagine people are failing them.
Beyond that, there are a ton of relatively simple world bosses.
So even if you want to fight world bosses or dragons, if you don’t find Tequatl fun, you have other options. The VAST majority of world bosses are easy and winnable nearly every time.
I think it’s a little early to be freaking out.
www.getunicorned.com / northernshiverpeaks.org
I think it may depend on how quickly people figure it out: if we’re still failing with 80% health remaining in a couple weeks, I can’t imagine it being fun…

Not to be a total jerk here, but maybe just don’t do this event? If you don’t like it?
I have no interest in high-level Fractals, so I skip them. I don’t want to spend hours and hours in dungeons, so I avoid Arah Explorable.
I’m not a big MMO guy, I’ve only played the GW games, but I’m consistently surprised by people who seem to complain because they feel the need to do EVERYTHING. If you aren’t enjoying being a completionist, stop being a completionist!

Yeah, there are some MAJOR misconceptions about event credit that I imagine are causing a lot of the heartache right now.

As a side note, if you really want to know what changes are coming as early as possible, move to Seattle and get a job with ArenaNet. ;-)
The only reason I’d like to know more in advance of what they plan to do is to be able to try to stop them from implementing the dumb ones. Way too many times we are getting stuff we don’t ask for, don’t want, and which is counter to the premise of the game we originally purchased. It has been like buying an upgradable computer only to find out that the periodic upgrades are turning it into a DVR.
I couldn’t care less about knowing anything in advance if I trusted these folks to surprise me with something appropriate to the game they promoted.
Fair. But I think you’re forgetting about how the decision-making process works. This game is not a collaboration between gamers and developers. It is a product of a company. It is a deliverable, not an open-source collaboration.
If you don’t like it, you can and should vote with your feet. But you don’t get to demand that you be included in the review process for changes. These forums offer you an incredible opportunity to provide feedback, but I think you’ve gone too far in expecting ArenaNet to include the community in their decision-making process to such a high degree.

Doesn’t have to be less champs. In fact it could be more champs! One of the problems is the lack of champions. Champion minions. An aetherblade event will generate probably around 5 champions. You would be pretty lucky to get 3 from a minion event. If they spawned equal amounts then you could at least say both types are equally appealing in terms of rewards.
Very true! There are a number of avenues to fix this problem.
www.getunicorned.com / northernshiverpeaks.org
For these particular invasions, have the game track the champ loot bags each player qualifies for, and they only receive them once Scarlet is dead. That way everyone has an incentive to balance farming with actually completing the event.
The event’s difficulty is fine as it is, and the rewards are spectacular. The rewards just need to be given upon completion.
It’d also be nice if an event that is easily equivalent to clearing an Orrian temple could reward more than 5 Dragonite Ore.
Ooooh that is evil. I sort of like it, but I’m worried about that with the length of the event. And disconnects. Etc.
I really think it’d be easier to just spawn less champs. Curious to see what Anet’s solution will be.

Especially when people keep asking about it and another thread has close to 100 posts.
Not to be unnecessarily harsh here, but if there you knew there was another thread, why did you make this one?
www.getunicorned.com / northernshiverpeaks.org
I full heartily agree with Timmy. Even if you consider all his responses personal, which is obvious, I believe he is making a general statement about the community. If the Devs were to provide any information before launch, it will cause confusion the second a update hits. Even if the information provided was exactly as stated, and we all know that rarely happens, the telephone game will provide false information. Aka one person will say something and the next will say something completely different.
TL; DR. Don’t take it personal what Timmy said. He is correct about how Devs and many other Devs handle their information before release.
Yes. Just to reiterate, this is my sense of how a lot of people on these boards feel and how they interact with developers: “You MUST answer me because I PLAY YOUR GAME! Now tell me… what changes are you making to the game? And don’t tell me through the official channel of patch notes, tell me now, on the forums, which isn’t your job, but do it anyway so that I can tell you all the changes you should make. I don’t care that the changes are already set for the next release in less than a week. I must be heard or you don’t give a kitten about this community!”
Devs come here frequently to read, even if not to respond. They know how the community feels. They play the game themselves. There are a variety of issues that can come up when responding to posts (e.g. the trouble poor Josh Foreman’s gotten himself into), so tough issues like this are mostly avoided.
As a side note, if you really want to know what changes are coming as early as possible, move to Seattle and get a job with ArenaNet. ;-)
www.getunicorned.com / northernshiverpeaks.org
There are some changes in the upcoming release to mitigate the severity of this problem. We’re also looking at making some long-term improvements to the Twisted Clockwork invasions.
It would be helpful if you indicated what those changes might be so that the player base could give you kind of a reality check beforehand. Please forgive me for assuming you folks don’t always understand the cause-and-effects of your own game, but history is on my side.
1) It’s too late for them to incorporate player feedback
2) Players don’t necessarily have a realistic view… or a consistent view… of how things should be “fixed”
3) It’s not Anthony’s job to communicate changes and, were he to hint at them and further refinements happen, you would be all over him for communicating wrong information
The only logical response is to say nothing until the official patch notes.
That said, I too would love hints. I just don’t think we’ll get them.
www.getunicorned.com / northernshiverpeaks.org
Thanks for the response, Anthony! Also, just in case this thread seems really negative, I really like invasions! It’s great content! I just wish we could complete them…
www.getunicorned.com / northernshiverpeaks.org
As a side note, I just got endlessly ridiculed in mapchat for suggesting that finishing the event is important to me. This community is usually awesome, but sometimes I wish the farmers were all still just at CoF where I could avoid them…
www.getunicorned.com / northernshiverpeaks.org
The other issue, which I don’t think has come up yet, is what happens when the Aether half of the wave finishes: people continue killing Aethers instead of switching to minions so the 3rd wave doesn’t start. This is absolutely devastating and makes it nearly impossible to finish.
www.getunicorned.com / northernshiverpeaks.org
and to that i say if there wasnt any rewarding champs there wouldnt be anyone doing the event at all so good luck finding 20+ players willing to beat a 3 hours cd 45 mins duration event for 5 sprockets and a box
also it is Those farmers you hate that beat the first 2 waves of the event so yeah again try beat the event without them lol.
Farmers tend to think that the only thing going on in the game is farming. Those of us who don’t farm know there are plenty of people playing the game, trying to beat events. Because they like it. (Not because of MAD LOOTZ LOLS).
Apparently you don’t know this. Probably because you’re always farming.
Also, note I didn’t say NO CHAMPS, I said NO CHAMPS DURING PIRATE CAPTAIN. You still get loot, but you don’t get endless loot so long as you ignore completing the event. I also said that the loot for winning should be increased. This would be further incentive to actually finish the event.
Here is the rule that I wish ArenaNet would adopt: FAILURE SHOULD NEVER BE MORE REWARDING THAN SUCCESS.
www.getunicorned.com / northernshiverpeaks.org
As somebody who wants to finish the event (because I am primarily motivated by success, not loot), I am so. so. so. tired of farmers ruining this for me. If you fixed it so that champs didn’t spawn when the Aetherblade Pirate Captain is up (and, like you suggested, added Empyreal Fragments on victory), I think that’d go a long way toward making it better.
sure goodluck finishing invasions without ANY FARMERS entering those invasion maps who always SPEEDS UP 1st and 2nd wave in order to farm final wave (aether monies yummy), besides why do u think peeps like me hop on my cleric guard doin invasions leaving my frostgorge farm with my warr if the monies is not worthed it?
if u want someone to blame, BLAME THOSE SILLY COMs who pile on each other instead of splitting up and succeeding the invasions!
Q: Why are all the Commanders at the same event?
A: It spawns more champs. AKA farming.
Thank you for proving my point.

maybe at some time u learn the difference between a designer and a developer. and yes a designer who does bad choices should be punished. i dont talk about 1 bad choice. if u see pvp then u will notice there is a lot of design flaws what cripples the actual developers to apply changes at faster rate. if a designer isnt capable of doing things right then he is doing the wrong job. that is not an insult.
so try it this way. u are a race driver and always finished at last or sometimes on middle places. so the company should not fire u to get maybe better driver for theyre cars?
Designers and Developers work together. Decisions are rarely made by a single individual. That does not mean you’re allowed to call for violence or for them to be fired.
Grow up. Get responsible. Criticize the game all you want. But it’s a game. Wishing somebody would get punched or lose their job? That’s terrible of you.
www.getunicorned.com / northernshiverpeaks.org
I don’t think people realize how large-game development works. They aren’t saying its impossible, nor that they will never do it, what they say every time something is difficult is: there is too little benefit for the relative cost of actually addressing this issue as of present. What does that mean? In this case it might take them, for example, 100 man-hours of work to fix this (just a number). That is 100 man-hours they are taking away from meaningful things, like real bug-fixes that are impacting the game, to do something that really isn’t that big of a deal.
actual i know how it works and if u think about it u will see its a designflaw that dont need to be defend. it was clear that that sigillsystem is give an advantage to 2-weaponsets right after start. every designer who hasnt thinked about that and was responsible for that should get fist in the face.
this is a problem adressed already in beta. the problem is the list is to long, what also is the fault of the designer.. i hope he was getting fired after the mess he was developed
Within a couple sentences, you suggested that a developer be physically assaulted and fired. Do you work at a company that will assault you if you make a poor choice? Or an unpopular choice? Do you work at a company that will fire you if you make that choice?
I’m sick and tired of idiots here threatening developers because they dislike something about the game. You ought to be banned from these forums, but amazingly, ArenaNet tolerates this nonsense.
As far as the OP, don’t 2-handed weapons also have higher base damage to help compensate for the single sigil? Just wondering if you think that would/should be adjusted down if 2-handed weapons get 2 sigils?
www.getunicorned.com / northernshiverpeaks.org
There are a number of improvements we need to the guild system beyond just content. New mission content (more challenges, more puzzles, more rushes) could be built by the design teams while the programmers work on the laundry list of guild QOL items: last seen online, better permission control (split of invite and kick, for example), a better guild panel UI, officer chat, better MOTD (show MOTD on login, show MOTD on change, remember MOTD when editing), built-in areas for website/voice comm info, etc.
I would expect we’ll get an update with a bunch of these features in the next few months. Whichever team of coders that did LFG should now be done with that feature, so hopefully they’re free to work on guild UI updates.

Hey everybody!
I run a small-to-medium-sized guild on Sanctum of Rall called Super Mega Happy Fun Time! We’ve recently had a few folks get sucked into some real-life commitments and have found ourselves in need of a few new friends. What kind of exciting things can you expect?
Casuals welcome! PvE! Exploration! Leveling! Alts! Lore! Dungeons! Fractals! Dance Parties! Vent and Alcohol! Exclamation Points!
We’re looking for laid-back folks who enjoy doing activities with other folks you know. By name. Friends, not random strangers. As such, we can be a little choosy, but if you’re more of a fun-loving, tolerant individual (and less of a min-max Zerker n00b-hater), you might find us a good home.
Oh, and we have a custom PvP arena and are working to build up a PvP group, so if you’re interested in that (or just getting your toes wet), that’s a new focus.
Best bet is to message me in-game: Loki Karaoke or timmyf.1490
Hope you hear from you!

This doesn’t seem really hard:
1) First of all, let’s stop pretending that Rich Coffers (or Southsun Crates or…) require real money to buy. You might think the exchange rate is crap, but you can still trade gold for gems. It’s just a matter of whether your time or money is more valuable. (Personally, I buy a bunch of gems because I have a Best Buy credit card and use my rewards points on gem cards.)
2) There are a variety of items in each release, some easy to acquire, some harder. Many are luck based. But even in this release, EVERYBODY gets a Dragon Helm, it is very easy to acquire a set of Shattered Wings, it is difficult/time-consuming to acquire Holo Wings, and it is luck/RNG-based to get a Jade weapon.
3) Expanding on 2, if there’s a problem here, it’s that weapon skins keep showing up in the RNG boxes and aren’t easy to get. Jade, Fused, etc.
4) Oh wait, I forgot about Super Adventure Box, where you could get the skins based on a clearly-identifiable amount of work. Oh, and Wintersday gave us tons of skins too, right? And they were really cheap?
Look, the problem is that you want a particular thing, but it requires more investment than you want to put in (whether that be time or money), and that makes you angry. Sorry.
I’ve wanted Immobulus forever, but I don’t have the gold for it. I’ve tried farming Giant Eyes and oh boy is that a joke. It makes me unhappy… but then Wintersday came along and I got a Princess Wand and I’m okay with that. Same thing for The Anomaly: oh man do I want that for my Mesmer! But it’s expensive and I just use Ambrosia instead.
There are things in this game that you will want but cannot have, either because you cannot acquire them or are not willing to do what is necessary to acquire them. That’s how certain items have prestige (and why I coooOOOoooo every time I see somebody with The Anomaly.) That’s a good thing in a game, not a bad thing.
So if you don’t like RNG-based acquisition of items, go out and find something else cool and rare and show it off instead. Or wait for another event to release something cool in a manner you can acquire it.

Okay, weird question, but I was talking to a friend about MMOs and Chinese hackers/gold sellers/prison-players and she mentioned somebody she knew whose account was hacked and looted. This individual had “thousands of dollars” worth of stuff.
I thought, for a moment, about my own account: something like 80g in the bank (I’m not super-hardcore and I hate farming, lay off!) that’s worth maybe $30-40 at current exchange rates… ($32.44 if I use the gold->gem exchange rate, $44.80 using gem->gold)
That led me to this question: the economy should gradually grow in size as the gold sinks are never going to fully keep up. But the exchange rate is also adjusting over time and it’s gotten significantly more expensive in gold terms to buy gems. So…
If we convert the available currency in all player accounts to USD using the gem exchange rate (and $10 = 800 gems), how much is that? How has it changed over time? Same question for gear and Trading Post sell-orders? If you combine all of these, how much in assets are available in GW2? Is it a nation-sized economy? Where would it rank in the world?
I know that we don’t have access to this information, but curious what that relationship looks like and wondering if anybody has any guesses: is it linear growth, exponential, random but generally up?
I assume John Smith could make these graphs and am very jealous of the data he has.

Random Number Generator is (psuedo) Random.
Random results will have patterns, but the patterns are meaningless. It’s just coincidence. People who get roughly a 1/3 rate at the beginning, middle, and end aren’t coming here posting their results. (I’m up to 36 clovers and have had both very lucky streaks and unlucky so far, and I certainly wasn’t getting anything like 80% at the beginning. )
So no. Nothing like this is happening.

I assume, if you’re asking for “endgame,” what you really want is an endgame treadmill. That would be Fractals (and perhaps only Fractals.)
Fractals is a set of mini-dungeons that have an associated difficulty. You start off at level 1 and advance whenever you complete a set at or above your personal difficulty level. As the levels advance, there are new mechanisms that make the fights more difficult.
There is no max level, so you can continue on this treadmill until you get bored. Or forever. (Or, more realistically, until you can’t complete them anymore.)

I think it was Robert Hrouda who specifically said he didn’t want to do this, but a good start would be to make the guys on the bridge chase you down and never rubberband, forcing you to kill them.
Did he say why by any chance?
That too, is a good idea.
It was months ago, but I think the idea is that they want to make dungeons rewarding so you WANT to kill things rather than just force you to do it. Make it more rewarding to kill trash mobs, basically. I could be REALLY wrong on this, though, and I hate to speak on behalf of the devs.

Hey Valess-
I’d like to turn this question around on you: I’m a guy who tries to avoid making online games an uncomfortable place for women. I don’t go out of my way to do anything special… I just try to treat EVERYBODY with respect, regardless of race, gender, sexuality, etc.
I assume a lot of folks are like me, but it’s seemingly not enough.
So… what can I do to help the situation? I’ve had this conversation with my girlfriend, but it tends to get a little uncomfortable because of our relationship. She expects me to confront everybody about their behavior, but that seems pretty serious.
That said, I’m thinking maybe there’s no other way? I just had my first experience this afternoon of telling somebody on mapchat that kitten jokes aren’t funny… let’s say it ended with him tossing insults my way and me blocking him.
Are you looking for guys to stop being kitten or to actively police other guys? And do you think it’d work? (Again, I’m asking out of curiosity because I haven’t had much luck having a non-heated conversation about this with my lady.)

@OP, here is a suggestion
I always have 2 chat windows running, one just for map chat, the other just for guild chat. If I am in a party, I open another chat window just for party chat. I prefer to keep chat convo organised and uncluttered.
I spend the vast majority of my time with the guild chat window active, thus ignoring all the silly map chat spam. I only tab to the map chat window just before group events, and only very briefly. Sometimes, if i am not busy with something else, I will monitor map chat to see if someone needs help with a SP or the like.
Doing this might reduced your urge to be a ‘smartypants’ …
But I like being social and chatting on mapchat! SoR is a great place to have (oftentimes rather odd) conversations with my servermates.
I have an All (really just map say party guild team squad) chat, a Party+Guild chat, and a Combat/Messages tab. That setup works pretty well for me.

1) I should probably stop trying to shame people who are “Event?” spamming because it won’t work and just makes me look like a jerk.

A MAJOR point of this game is that “hitting max level” is meaningless. (More or less.) There is no endgame/the entire game is endgame.
www.getunicorned.com / northernshiverpeaks.org
Asking for events just seems like laziness to me. The same goes with asking when something is up such as SB. People should have done events enough times to know where they are and which ones a frequently up. As far as spawn times, there’s a website that tracks that and takes 5 sec to check.
Hrm. But those timers aren’t always correct, so I can see where it’d be helpful to ask.
www.getunicorned.com / northernshiverpeaks.org
We’re looking to get our daily done ASAP so we can log off, or get to the fun stuff.
But isn’t playing the game the fun stuff? When it comes to events, don’t you just get those as part of playing the game?
Let me give a counter-example that I can understand why people would ask on mapchat: “Any group events up?” Group events tend to be harder to find, run less often, and can’t always be done easily with just a couple people. So when those are part of the dailies, I can see asking…
…but events are running ALL OVER and are being called every minute (in Queensdale, at least). I guess that’s where I have a harder time with what seems like (to me) EXTREME impatience.
(Also, I hope I’m not coming as aggressive or insulting here, I really am just trying to get a better feel for this and see things from somebody else’s perspective. I appreciate the responses.)
www.getunicorned.com / northernshiverpeaks.org
yes you are in the wrong and you clearly know it . As for the server I’m on sure we get people who ask about events and shockingly enough people are actually polite enough to tell them about the events .
Oh, I call events whenever possible. (Event starts, I’m not in combat/no threat of dying.) I’ll even list the nearest waypoint and the direction to head when you get to the WP.
And everybody else does as well.
…so why are people asking when the information is readily available? I’d say, during prime hours, events are called with AT MOST a minute or so between them.
EDIT: I should have said… GW2 is my first MMO, though I played GW1 for about a thousand hours. So part of this might be that I just don’t “get” the impatience of MMO players. I’ve seen this with dungeons and zerker elitism as well, so I guess maybe it’s an extension of the same thing?

I’ve been more disappointed in the few people I’ve seen trying to insist that map chat should only be used to call events and kept clear of all other conversation, although thankfully they’re rare.
Maybe we just need an “Events” chat channel for finding and organizing events. Mapchat can then be freed up for more frivolous conversation.

Hey guys, I’ve been struggling with something and wanted to get some feedback.
I’m on Sanctum of Rall and we’re pretty good about calling events, especially in low-level zones. Most people, when near an event that’s starting, will name it in mapchat. A good number of folks even include nearby waypoints. This is great!
What irritates me are all the requests for events. There are CONSTANTLY people asking “Events?” “Any events?” “Need events, any up?” If you stop for a moment and look at mapchat, you’d see that people are calling them…
My assumption is that these people are asking for events the moment they enter the zone because OMGZ need 2 do dailiez @ max speed and get back to CoF1!!!! so I usually gently harass them. Something like…
Them: Events…?
Me: …are being called as they start right here on mapchat.
Them: Any events?
Me: Yes. All over. Constantly. Wait 30 seconds.
I’ve done this a few times and been called many different not-so-friendly names for this and gotten precious little support in my direction. So here are my questions…
1) I know I’m being a bit of a jerk, that’s intentional, but am I wrong here?
2) What is Queensdale like on your server? I assume it’s kind of the same thing everywhere?
