It’s a bug. I have no problems in other group events getting the rewards. For the knights I usually get the gold medal for contribution but no reward chest. I’ve done 15 knights now and have only got rewards twice (fully grouped most times). I’ve stopped playing the event due to the frustration, its pointless.
Great idea. Every idea should be tabled for discussion even if it turns out not be right.
Note that TTS has got past the wurm body phase twice into the legendary heads phase. Their best efforts haven’t had enough dps to drop the heads below 30% though. Another server was able to get one head down though I’m not aware of details.
I like everything about the marionette except the achievement criteria. Nothing sux more than 4 of 5 groups finishing their champ and having to look on helplessly at the 5th chamber group fail it for everyone. The chain you are on isn’t severed, you won’t get your achievement for killing that warden and/or avoiding those marionette attacks and you have one less attempt to complete all wardens. Too high a price in my opinion.
I’ve found the tower to be laggy the past few days. I have 2 timings I use, one when servers are laggy and one for when they are operating properly.
When not laggy, after the first clockface appears, I usually wait until the 7th of the 8 sides appears and then jump (a split second before the lightning bolt and the clockface comes into view). This timing works fine and is reliable, I’ve gotten 6 perfect runs in a row this way.
When laggy, I find that I need to wait until the clockface appears the second time and then jump, i.e. the time it takes for another side to rotate into view.
The sign of lag for me is when you start the puzzle and get to the point where you have to stop and wait for a couple of seconds for new ledges to appear before going on. If those ledges pause for a second as they form then the server is laggy. Sometimes you can get around this by exiting and starting a new instance, sometimes you end up getting into the same instance again.
My experience may not apply to those geographically near the servers and on fast internet connections only a few network hops away . I’m from Australia and so my latency is typically bad to the U.S. even though I have good internet.
Completing the watch tower no longer awards trick or treat bags.
The latest Release Notes state:
Added 20 Empyreal Fragments as a daily account reward for completing the Mad King Tower jumping Puzzle as a subsequent reward after first time completion.
There is nothing in that statement indicating that the trick or treat bag reward was being removed as a reward.
I completed the watch tower 3 times post patch with the following rewards:
1st – 20 empyreal fragments, no trick or treat bags
2nd – nothing
3rd – nothing
I gave up after that.
Same story, made 2 keys in lions arch, didn’t get the achievement.
Are you on the same character you used to complete SAB 1? Because each character had its own progress.
Thanks, you’ve explained the problem in my case. I was playing another character when I went through SAB when it first launched. The achievement is account based but your SAB progress is character based.
I can access world 2 with that original character. I seem to be missing weapons 7 and 9 (I think I had all weapons before) but everything else seems to be remembered.
I completed all of world 1 and some of the the sneak peak of world 2 when SAB came out originally, months ago.
On logging in today I received the king toad’s backpack and all SAB achievements have been completed (world 1 stuff).
Yet I cannot enter Door 2 in the hub that leads to world 2.
Do we have to repeat world 1 all over again in order to enter world 2?
The patch notes are not clear on this.
This is exactly what is happening to me. It has nearly got me killed a few times. It is like you are stuck inside the siege.
I’ve started a second warrior. Under the hero skills tab, weapon skills section it shows the weapon skills you’ve acquired by using weapons wieldable by the warrior.
Under axe skills, on the off hand is dual strike listed first and then whirling axe is listed twice (one above the other). I am unable to get both whirling axes highlighted to indicate that I’ve mastered the skill. Only the lower one is highlighted.
I’ve tried various combinations of weapons without success:
axe+axe
other 1h weapon + axe
nothing + axe
axe + nothing
What do I have to do to get the upper whirling axe highlighted? Or is it a glitch?
My first warrior has both whirling axes highlighted – not sure how since it happened near game launch when I wasn’t paying a lot of attention.
It’s not a router issue. I was booted unexpectedly too in the last 10 minutes. Clicked to go to sPVP and got a client error. Tried logging again several times but keep getting the stupid, useless, non informative, extremely irritating “guild wars 2 has encountered an error”. Still can’t get in.

Ok I’ve successfully logged in again. Whatever the problem was, it’s gone away for me. I hope you guys can get back in soon.

Count me as one who got 38/38 before making the jump into the water. I did not get any achievement reward though that I’m aware of.
You can solo this one if you’re good enough. Nothing in it requires 5 players to be present. You want a challenge right? This is a challenge.
What percentage of the playerbase could solo this do you think? Under 5% at best. My party wiped 8 times on the 2 end bosses before we completed it. I spent most of my time on the run to stay alive and was rarely able to do any damage. All of the others went down multiple times, but when they were up they did decent damge, enough to complete it eventually.
They don’t need it. It’s a well designed dungeon with an epic boss fight. Personal preference on your part is just that. If you want solo play, go play an offline game. And it’s not like you can’t get a random group in less than a minute anyway.
It is not a well designed dungeon when it excludes players natural playing preferences. That is poor design. Players then miss out or are forced into playing in a manner that is not fun for them. There is no reason for dungeons not scaling with the number of players, even a single player, especially since Arenanet have already demonstrated they can do this easily enough.
The bottom line is that there are lot of people that were caught out without having spent their commendations who would have spent those commendations if the message had got through to them about precisely when Lyns was disappearing. The message didn’t get through for these people. I’m assuming Arenanet didn’t want to upset players who missed out so perhaps they could consider better communication in the future. As a suggestion, deletions and removals of this nature should be in their own section with emphasis in future patch notes an not buried down 300 bullets deep in a sea of bulleted text.
I just searched the “News and Announcements” forum and found 2 hits (searching on “Lyns”). The relevant one is https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/Game-Update-Notes-January-28-2013. There are 200+ bullet points in that post. Only one bulleted item speaks about Lyns. Pathetic. Once again no reason for not providing in game emails that would reach 100% of the player base.
It was not adequately communicated, far from loud and clear. Nor was her removal mentioned in the patch notes, so it is not clear to me that this isn’t a bug. Three people posting above have already indicated that they are unaware of why Lyns has been removed and I’m a 4th. I can’t see why they didn’t broadcast an in game email about removal of Lyns that would have reached everyone who actively plays the game.
I’ve completed 15 daily’s. Each time the laurel hint comes up. No matter what I do or click the hint never registers. Sea of Sorrows.
Bugged on sea of sorrows, 9 remaining. Got boss down to nothing twice and he just reheals to full. Incomprehensible to me why firstly the karma merchant won’t offer goods just because the group event is on, secondly why the game isn’t keeping track of number of minions attached to Victurus and thirdly why this hasn’t been fixed yet.
I raised this a few days ago. No response and no action from Arenanet, not a high priority for them. Majorly frustrating since I can’t complete the area.
82/83 hints here too, despite every category in the hints menu being ticked. The number of unaddressed bugs in this game is getting annoying.
Still bugged today. I checked it twice. Several people were there wondering what to do. I urged them to raise a bug report.
I wonder how many times Tigh has circumnavigated the catapault, it’s certainly in the very high figures.
Tigh Snatchskull is wandering in a circle around the contraption and when you speak to him says “Can’t talk. Need to get the boss more cattle.” Can’t access sides of the catapault.
There’s no other way to get the vista on top of the tower in this area.

I’ve visited the area on 5 separate occassions and each time Auda has been broken. Usually she is not at the renown heart location (and Auda’s Turret) and can’t be found. Today I found her at the renown heart but she will not allow me to talk to her and examine her wares despite the fact that I’ve completed the renown heart.

Wanting it to be fixed is one thing, and perfectly justifiable. After all it’s not working as intended. Whining and complaining about the lack of reward, as some have, and crying for compensation in return though is just plain childish.
There’s a right way and a wrong way to go about these things. And getting on the forums and whining like a spoil child that hasn’t gotten the toy they wanted is the wrong way. I’m sure you agree.
Many of those people may already have tried to raise this issue through the /bugs in game bug report mechanism or through the bugs forum. Not one response from Arenanet that I’ve seen (I’ve raised bugs both ways). Likely they are frustrated after investing quite a bit of time and effort to complete the puzzle. How about cutting them some slack if they don’t post in the manner you think they should. Referring to legitimate complaints as childish whining is insulting.
In the past Arenanet have compensated players when bugs were found. Not all the time, but a precedent has been set. I see no reason for those that have missed out getting their reward later if Arenanet are prepared to do it. It’s certainly worth asking the question.
The most frustrating part of this entire incident is that the reward system was working perfectly up to Christmas. Arenanet then introduced this bug in a patch, possible a patch to guard against botting.
Tarn, your post is offensive.
Firstly, it’s a daily reward, they’ve done the work to complete the puzzle, the prereq for the reward, so they deserve the reward. It’s an outright bug and should have been fixed. Unfortunately it probably won’t get patched this late.
Secondly, they do have the satisfaction for finishing the puzzle, they just don’t have the reward, those are two different things.
Thirdly, you have no idea what their spirit may be, you don’t know them and you can’t assess that.
Finally, who are you to tell others where they should derive their satisfaction?
In what way is the value stripped from your accomplishment? You got the reward, right? So you did it as part of a team that managed to keep all dolyaks alive. Noone can take that away from you. Good team work and well done.
I completed the bells with a perfect 600, yet only get 4 presents, same as finishing on 500+. I’ve done the Wintersday jumping puzzle with many seconds to spare (5k life left), reward is the same as finishing it on a sliver of life.
Some minor frustration I can understand because they changed the rules midstream on you, but getting majorly frustrated over it is a bit silly. With each retry you got many presents along the way for completing each wave, so it wasn’t all in vain.
I find it far more frustrating that sometimes in the jumping puzzle you get an empty loot chest for the first run of the day (the one that should drop a big gulp and other goodies).
Happened to me today. 4th time I’ve completed it first time for the day and gotten the empty chest. Finished with 2k life. Problem has only been since christmas. Why can’t arenanet look at this? The event isn’t around for a long time after all. People are getting annoyed after spending much time to even finish the puzzle and then getting absolutely nothing after all that time. Infuriating.
There’s a 3rd possibility. You get an empty chest. Happening to a lot of people right now. I did get a loot bag one day and not a karma item.
This has happened to me 3 times now. It is majorly iriritating that we haven’t had an official response yet on why it is happening and what is being done to fix it.
No reward for completing the jumping puzzle for me today. Snowman path. Not a fast run, in fact had under 1000 hp’s on completion. What gives. The problem has been around for days. noone from Arenanet seems to be responding though.
First run for the day. Empty chest. Seems there’s a different bug every day. They are all extremely annoying.
A known problem. They are working on it. Best chance of avoiding the problem for now is to do a big jump at the end into the final giant present at the end.
Completed the puzzle today. Got dumped into lion’s arch like everyone else. I’ve done this puzzle several times in the days before without this problem. Definitely a bug and has been reported over a day ago – see wintersday forum.
Practice on the mad king’s clock tower prepared me well for this puzzle. Both puzzles are similar in that everyone gathers together and gets in each others way at the start (making it very difficult) and both involve quick, precise jumps, mostly on the run.
At least with the Skipping Stones jumping puzzle, you will have plenty of time to work on it since it is permanent content.
I enjoy the jumping puzzles and hope they keep adding new ones.

I expect that most people spread their crafting out over 4 or more characters The problem occurs when one character is buying recipes for other characters mastering disciplines they don’t have. Remembering each and every recipe you’ve ever purchased is beyond most of us and it is cumbersome to have to swap characters to check whether a given recipe has already been learned.
