25vs25 appears still boring to me and a lot of players on Kodash. You should learn stop hiding behind AoE-cap.

For me … I had a lot of fun in DAoC anyway having real PvP during this match-up. This one was just hilarious. Sometimes you could farm some latecomers of a public zerg and have some cool duels.

Combat and Largescale
Its a controversial issue. Lets start from the beginning here.
GuildWars 2’s combat is based on cooldowns which means we need timing and we need time if we don’t have any skills ready.
Having a 30vs40 battle. After those 30 players win, 20 players of the 3rd faction join the battle and fight the 30 players..
Its not about fairness but its a good example that most of them will have huge cooldowns including the elite-skill.

The elite-skill doesn’t seem REALLY special in such big fights – especially in even bigger ones when it comes up to 50vs50 battles. But they should. Else they wouldn’t be threated as sort of Ultimate Abilities of that class.
While a guardian is able to get invincible for 2-3 seconds in such a battle the mesmer’s AoE-stealth or Timewarp is blocked by an Area of Effect capacity. This doesn’t seem very fair but that AoE-cap exists due to technical issues. Maybe the client would run even more unstable and more slowly if such a spell would affect 50 players at the same time.
Most eliteskills sadly end up being just normal skills with a really big cooldown in such fights compared to other eliteskills.

Such a blockade is the root of unbalancing for some classes. The elementalist is able to deal a lot up to only AoE-damage being useful in this cases while a ranger ends up being more effective fighting singletargets together with his pet.

My suggestion
A solution to AoE-cap problems, class-blockades AND empty server problems.
What about having more and smaller maps?
We have three borderlands where players are easy to outnumber due to a big player capacity. It creates a focus mentality: Fill up one borderland until we have a player queue. The chance is kinda high to match with a server which doesn’t have a really big WvW population.
Its not fun to fight while being outnumber for everybody, it discourages new players and after all it pushes some players to transfer to another server with a bigger WvW population.
A second solution in this case would be: Server clustering. But I think we still have players who would be interrested in WvW with fluent gameplay without buying a new computer.
But World transfering and World clustering hurts and would hurt the realmpride of that server. And it ends up – in the first case – matching a server which doesn’t have a WvW population at all.
After all its about about fun. And you should join the action and the fun pretty fast. Even GuildWars 2’s current WvW maps are controversial and were even pointed out as being way too small for their server’s current WvW population.

I heard that the current WvW-maps are the capacity of ArenaNet for whatever reason (sorry if I’m wrong here) on these forums too. Maybe due to technical issues – who knows.
But we would have more maps (each of them should have a smaller map capacity), maybe even more variety (especially if each of them would be designed differently), more fluent fights and sieges and it would support instant fun/action for less populated WvW worlds which just want to compete on that map they currently fight on. Those fights would be kinda smaller than 60vs60vsX but even more friendlier to a lot of professions. (to clarify: I’m not speaking about SMALLscale maps which are only designed for 5vs5 battles.)
Maybe each map could be about different objects – as Eternal Battlegrounds having its focus on Stonemist as an important strategic point.
There could be a lot of options …
Wanna fight about a lot of camps and just a few towers? No problem, join map#1!
Wanna fight about one huge castle and three or six towers? No problem, join map#2!
Wanna fight about three towers and six keeps? No problem, join map#3!

Hey folks and hey ArenaNet,

Wall-of-text incoming
I have to say: I am a naysayer if it comes to discussing GuildWars 2’s WvW. Upcoming Tri-Faction MMORPGs have potential ideas including a really good engine which is adjusted to largescale battles with a lot of objects ensuring a fluent gameplay. But they are actually delayed for like one or two years.

GuildWars 2 obviously has some problems which are solvable if you let this system evolve! I don’t mean adding new progression or adding new weaponskins and new stats for WvW-specific equipment.
There are two mainproblems I see for many players and for players which keep avoiding the WvW-system of GuildWars 2.

The Engine, lags and not fluent gameplay
A lot of players have a computer which should be able to run most GuildWars 2 fluent. But its no surprise if we see 60vs60vs30 battles the client tends to crash or having slow and unstable gameplay experience.
Yes. There are indeed players who have an absolute highend computer which is able to run GuildWars 2 fluent in every case. Even if it comes up to 100vs100 fights in Stonemist – beside Skilllags.
But WvW should be more playerfriendly and an easy accessable content as standard dungeons, events, sPvP or even the personal story. Unfluent and unstable client experiences keep a lot players outside of the WvW system though their computer meets the system requirements of GuildWars 2.

When I think about the term “Thief” as a class then I’d expect more reflex-based skills and terrain-camouflage and better shadowstepping. Actually that class just looks like a thief but in fact its just a GW1 Assassin-copycat with stealth. Why not just implementing a full GW1 Assassin instead? It was way more fun to play and to fight against.

Torch and Scepter are great weapons for counter imo. Especially Torch is obviously a pretty good weapon with stealth burning/blind.

You INVI by far are the only guild that is trying to move apart from the blobs in this matchup. Now that KoA left Kodash. Wish more guilds would be like you.

BdaS, Bots, Buka, FB, FORT, Kegl, NSG, WdR, why – just to name a few. You might have run into some of them with your 30 guildees + adds…

Out of all of those guilds only Bots mean anything to me. But even so, as much as I respect those guys they just don’t have the numbers. The other guilds are so small in presence or effectiveness I just have not noticed them. I’m not trying to be dis-respectful, but about 25-30 is pretty standard for a guild raid – groups of 5 roaming guild members just don’t get noticed or are more of an annoyance than a real threat.

Anyway, as always respect to our opponents and we hope for some good fights in what’s left of this broken match-up.

After all your giggle pseudo-elitist zergs are still just known by being forum warriors. Still didn’t saw any member of your guild being a good fullgroup- AND small-scale fighter at all. I doubt that your guildnames would mean anything to Kodash if we would match other servers.
5 roaming guildmembers are what GuildWars 2’s combat (along with cooldowns, AoE-cap etc.) is adjusted to. But have fun with being blind.

You know where you find good fights now. KoA tried smallscale while being on Kodasch. Its your turn to prove if you are worth a “good fight” on Kodash.

What is so good about pvp?

GuildWars 2’s effects and cooldowns – everything about PvP – are adjusted to a fullgroup of 5 players vs another fullgroup. If you encounter as a fullgroup a zerg of 20 players you don’t have resource management. You just have your cooldown-based skills which are restricted by AoE-cap.

For me those zergfights are really boring and I don’t see any skill-level behind this to be honest. I’d mutch rather look for a 1vs1 or 5vs5 while roaming in WvW since the combat is adjusted to such fights.
Joining a zerg is great for leveling tho.

DAoC was more focused on PvP in RvR. ArenaNet does not support PvP in WvW – It seems they think doing PvE and PvGates should be the most funny activity you can do.

I, too, wish for the awesome PVP that was buffbots idling in complete safety at the border keep.

Actually destealthing for ranger or even engineer would be awesome. But you know … This would be Rock, Paper, Scissor – Which seems to be an absolutetely no go for ArenaNet since GuildWars 1.
Furthermore – No, I don’t QQ/flame – the thief-design seems to be intended to fight dirty/unfair.

Once again Kodash fights against SFR and Deso and is stuck in T2. And once again we will see that servers don’t fit in the actual bracket at all.
Have fun being destroyed by upcoming RvR MMORPGs. You will watch players jump off GuildWars 2 pretty fast with that progression just because of RvR-like systems.

guys you understand we have big guilds, our smaller wvw guilds can drop 20 people on a map? if we speak for Con Zds,Rise numbers go to 30-40+ Osc can drop 30+ too we run separately only pugs are in one big group. I tell you this as comander. All sfr know me as The angry Bulgarian. So as I said we dont blob but if codash come with 80+ what i can do with 40 pugs I call the guild on the map coordinate and defend.. We dont have night guilds only our russian army in the morning. So stop the whining and ect. We have big dedicated guilds they run alone but you say 20-30 is blob? so we dont have to run as a guild even ?

What is a blob or a zerg?
It depends on your point of view. IF you usually run smallscale (solo or up to 5) you will even consider organized guild groups of 20-30 players as a blob or zerg.
As I and some other players do.

Blob may sound degrading but it says nothing about the organized state of those players.

Another thing, why do people always interrupt a 1v1 or 1v2? If it’s clear as day a small skirmish is taking place then just carry on doing whatever you’re doing and leave them be.

If your having a skirmish and do not want to be interrupted, there should be plenty of almost safe spots around the borderlands. Other day I was passing by a sentry n ran into a group that told me to stop attacking the people that they were dueling, even though the enemies they were dueling were killing any passing dolyaks. And if it wasnt something prearranged, its more annoying if you DONT help your teamates, not everyone is interested in forced 1on1s/2on2s, its a team affair after all.

I never help my teammates if they have a 1vs1. If you are not prepared for real PvP then its bad luck. We are just playing a game not some socialsh*t. Even children tend to balance football teams when playing games (assuming video games are always comparable to classic game examples). Luckily most players I saw on my server are able to handle 1vs1 or 2vs2, so I don’t have to read some “ kitten WHY DON’T YOU HLEP USSSS JESUSUUSUSUS!!!!111”-spam.

We are reading 5 pages about some “Oh blobbing is so unskilled and and and and unfair!”. Seriously, I respect others playstyle … But this is getting hilarious since I just see those famous guilds on SFR always adding every balanced fight in every scaletype.
Stop complaining about this blobbing stuff if you don’t care about fairness anyway. (I’d like to add here: I don’t call out the whole SFR Server since I already met just a few decent players.)

Jesus, seriously. Just play the game as some CoN dude wrote some pages ago. Even if you are just able to play during the night due to whatever reason. But IF you really talk about fairness and balanced fights … try out EVERY playerscale fights.
(Talking about WvW as massscale-only system is invalid since ArenaNet also supports smallscale playertypes in WvW)

Uh … Is this supposed to be a copycat of typical German threads along with bigmouthing and “no you!”-posts? Come on, I already avoid German GW2 forums.

T1-3 is JUST about blobbing and nightcapping. If every single player of Kodash would just care about playerkills and fairfights we wouldn’t be stuck in T2 last several months.

Yes, Kodash is blobbing sometimes.
Actually I really don’t care about 25+ fights since it is just zerging in my eyes anyway.
Being good at playerkills – which IS possible in WvW (else it wouldn’t contain PvP) – says that you are good at PvP. Especially in fair fights which you don’t see usually.
Actually … Describing [Buka] as some random glasscanons is pretty funny.
If you really care about PvP, smallscale and challange you should fight them. In my opinion its the best PvP guild on Kodash fighting in WvW.

Even hearing some stupid bigmouth from SFR-dude just during this week is pretty funny. I know there are people on your server who are able to write/speak decently – as proven during the matchup with Jade Sea.
But don’t be like: “Oh! SFR just cares about playerkills and everybody else doesn’t!” because it isn’t that case. Being REALLY playerkill-orientated forces you to don’t care about your own objectives at all which also isn’t the case for SFR – nor for Desolation.
Remind: You and your guild are not those who represent your server alone.

If you really just care about 25vs25-like GvGs you should go on and switch to another bracket. You won’t see some other guilds as [KoA] or [Bots] on Kodash since we already lost some guilds like those. So, yeah, Kodash is currently pretty often the underdog … So what? Is that an excuse or what? Kodash’s community is actually like: Login, do the stuff you did last weeks and logout – which is mostly happening during German primetime. In addition most of them are whole guildclusters and/or randoms.
Thus … I doubt that those people really care about your eliteness and playerkilldriven-guilds. Actually … we need such guildclusters and those randoms to keep participating in T2 at all to be honest.

Actually T2 is also just 24/7 coverage but there are smaller groups out. Last week I also noticed some SFR groups stacked full with Retaliation … No chance for pure AoE damage at all when you get 13-15k damage just by Retaliation, heh.

Alright, its the last day we match with Jade Sea. After several weeks and months matching with you lads I still have just one question left to ask. Why are you guys so little PvP interrested in WvW?

Don’t get me wrong, its not a flame. But after fighting with Elona and SFR I saw much more PvP orientated guilds and players than I ever met on Jade Sea. I played … a lot during our matchups on every Border and on Eternal Battlegrounds … The only – more or less – PvP enthuisiastic guild on Jade seems to be [DEX]. To be honest … I roam pretty often alone. And everytime I saw some solo player of Jade he avoids fighting at all and tries to escape. At least it was like this in most cases.
So … Why is there so little interrest in PvP aspects on Jade Sea? :o

Anyway … Have fun matching with New Vizunah Square (also known as Elona Reach) and Old Vizunah Square this evening. :P

The problem is: Queue.
We got a wiedly accepted eventcalendar where commanders announce their public raids.
People who planed to join that border didn’t know about that GvG … it wasn’t announced in the community at all. It would’ve been much more tolerated by the map community and the commander on Jade Border if such an event would’ve been announced.
Especially Jade Border having the biggest queue every evening during primetime on Kodash. I can understand that reaction though I respect fair fights as 1vs1 or 5vs5 and so on.

KoA knew that this commander – with a pretty huge community along with a whole guildcluster – was leading during the primetime.

Since I know that commander pretty good I can tell that he wouldn’t care if you “hunt him down”. Its just a game, dude.

want to ask a question who ever was leading that zerg. is it really a good idea to maybe kitten off your best guild in kodash by interrupting a guild vs guild???

did a CvC in a game called eve online if your heard of it just a fun 60 vs 60 and suddently a friendly corporation pop up kill them what do we do? well we leave the alliance and kill them for it. isn’t a risk KoA might get mad at you and leave? dunno how much they love their server but I would do that instantly lol-.-

After … 12 weeks (?) matching with Jade we know how Jade wins. Don’t take my words personally Jade.
Actually, during EU primetime we just fight with SFR on Jade Border.
And I think everybody of us actually knows how you “win” the system … And pure blobbing and nightshifts along with “Players vs Doors” are unbelievable boring.

At least fights against SFR are really A LOT of fun since its not pure mapzerg-blobbing.

@ZDs: I think I know you from Far Shiverpeaks – You were also playing over there while the server was in T1, didn’t you?

Frankly, I really hate the AoE cap. I always thought its just to protect the zerg sheep herd.

Well, OP. GuildWars 2 doesn’t have any endcontent. There is indeed nothing new with level 80 than gear/item grind and exploration (which is somehow grindy too).

Its really easy to create a sort of bunker elementalist who also deals pretty much damage (especially with evasive attunment). I’ve been playing D/D Elementalist but this is … well. It is a joke since its pure easymode. You can teleport, you got additional healing and instant cure conditions … It doesn’t really matter if D/D has a lack of rangeskills since he even has teleport. Which is good when fighting against mesmer and thieves who try to run.
I don’t think D/D is overpowered. I rather think that Staffskills are absolutetely a joke on Elementalist. Okay, you are able to have a lot of a powerful Damage over Time-condition: Burning. And AoE-Stun. But you almost got no sort of direct damage.

Earth-Immobilize and Wind-Knockback is WAY too slow if you fight within a range of 900-1200. You are forced to melee. With a staff. Which skills have a range of 1200.

Seriously … You absolutetely have no possibilities if you want to attack an enemy within a range of 900-1200 units because those skills are totally slow. You should be able to knockback and immobilize instantly with the staff.

Well … I’m sorry, I know ArenaNet calls themselves “gamers” who develope a game which they really want to play. But … Well. Forcing the player’s playstyle by his/her weaponchoice ain’t right.

WvW: Lack of connectivity?

Hey folks,

*Warning: Personal Story spoiler implemented.

actually there were some more MMORPGs announced along with three-faction PvP connected to sieging aspects. Like World vs World.

I’ve been playing Dark Age of Camelot and Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. Even The Elder Scrolls: Online and Camelot Unchained (partly) were announced.
All those games are obviously build around those Realm vs Realm-like aspects.
Specific factions have specific enemies, unique abilities and equipment.

In my opinion GuildWars 2’s World vs World is less connected to the ingame-world though you can play your leveled and equipped character which you’ve been playing during the personal story, doing events and explorations. Your character were forced to make important decisions which affect your personal story and even your equipment.

There are three factions in GuildWars 2: Vigil, Order of Whispers and Priory. Well, I think its obvious what I’m pointing to. Why didn’t you guys of ANet taking the chance to create Faction vs Faction vs Faction with those used Factions instead of using Worlds/Servers? In spite that those faction [SPOILER*SPOILER] will forge The Pact to defeat their enemy it could also be an eternal conflict – at least as a PvP-aspect.

I know, it would require a completely different server/world-setup, but I think it would connect WvW much more to the lore.
Players could choose and change (like transfering to a different server while paying a fee) the faction for Faction vs Faction only while continuing the faction-story which you’ve chosen.

Your thoughts?

Hope its gone forever. Asian themed expansions are the worst. Nothing but ugly buildings and tons of really bad voice acting to match the budget martial arts movie feeling of the entire thing.

So in other words: ‘I don’t like it so no one should have it’

Lol, I was hoping he’d come back and actually elaborate constructively on his reasoning.

Cantha was a great expansion for GuildWars though I’m not really interested into Asian-culture at all. I don’t like Anime-influence in MMOs at all because it makes games less serious to me.
But Cantha was just great. It was a pretty mature version along with Shiro and the Ministry, Piratish Luxons, Gothic uhm … uh … I forgot how they were called … That other faction – sorry mates.

A major problem with new zone-content would be: Capital cities.
Actually EVERYbody is looking for groups/eventually even trades/asks questions in Lion’s Arch.
Kaineng was a great capital city in GuildWars. But after a while I didn’t really know where to look for a group for some special stuff.

Intensifying dualwield mechanics

Hi folks …

first time I’ve heard of dualwielding weapons in GuildWars 2 I thought: Yep. This is the correct step!
Since GuildWars I always have wished to have more variety in melee-combat … We saw the classic shield/sword warrior and even the neckbracking twohanded hammer warrior beside the assassine.

At this point I want to point out: This is not a flame thread. Further …
The thief in GuildWars 2 is able to deal damage by dualwielding weapons while the warrior, ranger and even the mesmer … fail at this point.
I played warrior, mesmer and ranger (level 80, exotic weapons and kinda capped stats) especially in WvW.
I’m aware of the bleeding conditions on sword abilities of the warrior … But there is absolutely no duelwield bonuses nor there are dualwield skills for warrior, ranger and mesmer. I’m really disappointed because there is no reason for a warrior to think about dualwielding maces, swords or axes because the greatsword deals always more damage. Why no real melee possibilities for rangers while there is more potential?

It is intended to deal more damage by dualwielding … In all games. Even in GuildWars 2 a dualwield-axe warrior should deal as much damage as the greatsword or rifle warrior does … (or even faster/more).

Let us quickly compare weapon strenghts of level 80 exotics:
Greatword: 995 – 1,100
Hammer: 985 – 1,111
Rifle: 986 – 1205
Mace: 895 – 1010
Sword: 905 – 1000
Axe: 857 – 1048

Swords, axes and maces got much less weapon strenght than twohanded weapon while they almost have a similiar swing duration.
Even stats of a one handed weapon are just devided by two to ensure there are no differences to a twohanded weapon. This sounds alright but the basic weapon strenght stays. There is no possibility to a warrior to swing with both weapons and deal some more damage. Nor there is a chance for a ranger or mesmer.
While the greatsword warrior needs one hit through a hostile zerg to deal massive amounts of damage the sword, axe and mace dualwielding warriors have to pick single targets.
But if I have to pick single targets why don’t take the rifle and deal twice critical direct damage as usual?
Sword offhanded warriors might have a parry skill … But blocking one single attack is almost nothing as I experienced.

Dualwield might look cool … But in my opinion it really needs some overhaul.
It would be awesome to see a dualwield mechanic where weapon strenght sums up or to see various of dualwield skills which changes with the weapon type.

Mesmers get too much

Seriously, this is coming from an Engineer doing WvW and SPvP.

1. There are no CDs between using shatters. There needs to be a CD between each shatter of 2 to 3 seconds minimum.
2. Clones and phantasms can be created at alarming rates allowing for massive explosion spam.

There is no CD between shatterskills due to the CD of illusion/phantasm skills.
Illusions and phantasms are the way of a mesmer. Instead … the mesmer does not great direct damage like … fireballs or something like this.
It seems that you didn’t even plan to counter this. Did you even notice the hitpoints of illusions and phantasms? Even an engineer has some aoe skills.

3. Explosions are a 360 degree damage spread at target allowing hardly any targetting, plus clones go right after enemy.

Are you serious? Thats called aoe and its part of mmorpg-pvp.
A mesmer needs 3 illusions/phantasms to deal good damage or enough confusion.

5. Confusion is the worst game mechanic I have ever seen in a MMO. Retaliation is fine, you can choose not to hit the target. But confusion forces you to do nothing in a game except remove boon (if you can) or take massive amounts of damage. I am aware engineers can also make a build using this but it’s much harder to apply and the duration is far too short. The stacks on confusion should go away as the target casts spells instead of waiting out duration. Confusion needs a major rework.

Confusion is a CONDITION. You may cure it if you have skills.

You can begin your kitten flaming, but this class has been too powerful since launch and only made stronger. I would rather deal with the burst thieves.

You are the one who is flaming because you are too lazy to invent your own tactic.
This game is not about buttonmashing 2 – 10 and autoattacking. There are many possiblities to counter illusions/phantasms (like aoe skills [yes even engineers got some] and dodging [yes even engineers are able to dodge]) and there is even a solution about confusion. This is hilarious.

Level 80 sylvari mesmer.
I prefer to keep it more on cultural and classy level if it comes to armor.
Top to bottom:
Craftable hood (skin), Trooper’s Mantle(skin), Nightmare Vestments, Light Aurora Gloves, Dryad Leggins (=sylvari t3 light armor, skin), Feathered Boots (skin).

Most used dye is “Midnight Fire”. Details with Matte, Orange and Autumn.

Emberspire as staff. Thought about to change the skin to Melandru’s Gaze or something like this.

What are "good" mesmers weaknesses?

The mesmer’s weakness is his own strenght:
confusion stacking
(and zergs)

Since almost every player still buttonmashes his skillbar like crazy (especially thieves) confusion stacking is … the (obvious) “secret”. No matter what glass canon or even bunker you are facing: as a mesmer you can stack condition with scepter skills and shattering really fast. Many players won’t have more than 1 condition cleanser on their skillbar.

When times of attack pauses and ui realizations arrived confusion stack mesmer would get other problems.
