@Jaxichael.2590
“With the new system your rewarded with bonus tokens for doing each chain each day.”
Guess you don’t actually play, huh?
“as long as you bring group utilities you’re fine, I don’t see why this is SO difficult for people to understand :S”
Because that is a fallacious statement that shows you either haven’t been running explorable modes or are getting hardcore carried.
No, people are doing less dungeons because they’re kitten busted and the diminishing returns is screwing people over giving 6 tokens for their first run.
“Dungeons are far from finished, working fully or balanced. "
This isn’t a valid or good excuse for the state of things and is not acceptable on any level.
@Bifi.9273
“First of all, im only posting because i am – really – afraid that Anet listens to all the whiners and actually changes stuff the way they want it.”
You mean actually fixing bugs? God forbid.
Which ones are we complaining about? CoF magg mainly. Why? Because even groups that are optimized to do it and have full exotics cannot do the event the way the dev said it should be done, by DPSing everything down.
@algreg
I guess you don’t like the game as much as you claim you do then.
So doing instances requires specific specs? So much for the idea of not having the trinity bullcrap.
Eventually they’ll fix the bugs (hopefully), and eventually they’ll fix the anti-farm code properly so that it affects bots and not legit players.
Until then, play for fun, or go to another game for a few months.
Bad idea, then they won’t have players like us who actually give a kitten and want it to get better. All they’ll have left are the fans that don’t care how busted the game is and will play it anyways, but they are only the tiniest fraction of the total playerbase and not worth pandering to because nothing is gained.
Bad tuning because they want a wider audience to be able to experience the explorables? Oh gawd, sounds game breaking.
they want a wider audience
wider audience
That is exactly what they’re preventing by having content be too difficult for pugs and non-geared 80s to do.
Again, if the content was intended for 80s it wouldn’t downrank us and it wouldn’t let people who aren’t 80 in there.
@tolunart
what gives you the impression that I play the game for any reason other than that? Did it never occur to you that the stuff we’re trying to get fixed is preventing us from having fun?
Saying “play the game for fun” is saying “play the game I play, not the way you play”, it’s imperious and makes you come off as an kitten. That is why it is a bad statement that gets you zero respect.
@Vicwolf
Yea, it is the case because then the dungeons remain difficult. My statement still stands. Does it hurt you to work and earn something?
Yea its a great a game thats been out for 7 years get to have fewer bugs.
Apparently you weren’t around for its launch.
If the content was intended for level 80s, we would be level 80 while doing it. I didn’t complain about the difficulty, but your assertion that it is to be considered the same as max level max gear content is fallacious and based on absolutely nothing other than manifestly bad tuning on behalf of the dungeon devs.
Or just play for fun.
Perish the thought! I would never insult you by suggesting that you play the game in such a way that you enjoy it. Have a miserable day.
Because “play for fun” is a rubbish suggestion that doesn’t contribute anything to the discussion or offer any solutions to the problems presented.
Why did your QA didnt find that bug out?
Because their QA doesn’t actually exist.
Hey Jaxichael, the people you hear complaining are the people who break boss fights or exploit.
I don’t expect a game to have 8 years of endgame at launch but I expect them to have enough content to keep people involved until they can finish developing more (1-2 years if I’m being generous).
it’s hard so that people who play WoW can go back to their easy mode raids
I’ll take easy, non-bugged raids over buggy, non-functional dungeons any day.
Awh it’s shame that you feel that way. I see explorable dungeonskitten man raids – comparison to WoW.
If this was the case then we wouldn’t be downgraded from level 80.
Why? When they did BWEs and stress tests, public players for the majority just played did not bug test. So they’re better off doing it privately and in “family & friends” system, which all gaming companies do.
Because those were for 3 days at a time and a pre-live version of the game (and many players there were bug testing as many players in the live game are doing at this very moment). They’re clearly NOT better off doing it internally because it isn’t being done. Robert over in the dungeons forum was apparently completely ignorant of the fact that his diminishing returns code was entirely broken when he pushed it out in to the last patch.
And your statement that “Literally every other MMO out there does proper public testing” is far from reality too. How did you know? You played “literally every other MMO out there” to know that they do “proper public testing”? I highly doubt that.
I’ve played most p2p and many many f2p MMOs and I cannot think of a one that didn’t have a public test realm. The practice is simply too effective for companies not to do because the alternative is what we have here: broken patches that break more things and bugs that don’t get fixed.
p.s. I edited out your stupid face from the quote
Seems simple to me – they wouldn’t be able to put a cash shop on PTR. Time spent in-game is time building up the desire to purchase something on the cash shop to as they say, “enhance your gaming experience”.
Doesn’t seem that way to me. Too much stuff is broken for me to even bother playing the game right now. I’ve got my exotics and plenty of money to walk around with so what is there for me to do? PvP? I have shooters and MOBAs for that.
Me and my group spent an hour trying to complete dwayna convinced we were doing something wrong.. so we just kited her to the middle of no where and she stopped teleporting which was a relief.
There’s something negative to be said about a game’s design when the goal in fighting a boss is to figure out how to break the AI so they they can actually be killed.
You don’t know how companies work so let me explain it to you.
For a gaming company, specifically a MMO company, task are assigned to specialized teams.
For instance, you’ll have the dungeon team, the WvW team, the art team, small bug team, game combat team, class balancing team, gear team, and even a team that is making new content.
Now, these teams are usually not bigger than 5-10 people. Games aren’t run by a team of “Developers” but a small sub-section of the bigger team. These people usually have a priority list they keep around that is in constant flux depending on what people are having the most common troubles with and which are most gamebreaking. You also have to realize that replication bugs is a tough process. There are so many variables that can make a controlled test fail the bug squashing.
So in the end, it’s a long task to find bugs, ask any Computer Science major. Just have patience as I’m sure they’re all working diligently. You also have to remember that they need sleep and family time too.
Let me tell you how testing works in MMOs, since you apparently don’t know or this is your first.
The company running the game has a limited budget and staff. As a result of this, they cannot afford to hire large numbers of testers or have their own people test things with any level of significance. Because of this, said company usually runs a test server, where the people who play the game all the kitten time (us) and are intimately familiar with how the systems (in application) work are able to spend thousands and thousands of man-hours checking absolutely everything. This is especially useful when preparing a patch so that new content or changes do not break things for the rest of the playerbase.
I don’t have confidence that the Anet team tests their code or pays any mind to bug reports made in game or on the forums (read: dungeon rewards doubly broken now).
Do you honestly think that if the diminishing returns code would have made it in the game like it is now if it was proper tested? If no, you prove my point; if yes, then why should we have ANY confidence that anet has any idea what they are doing?
So glad that anet tests this stuff. Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a public test server where these kinds of bugs can be proper documented and fixed?
So basically this guide is about not running dungeons?…
This is seriously baffling to me. Anyone with the slightest amount of observation skills has noticed that with each of the past two patches supposedly fixing bugs and “improving” dungeons; that there have been vastly more problems created by the patches (and in the case of the dungeons FAR more serious) than are solved. Literally every other MMO out there does proper public testing of their future patches and planned content so that it launches and doesn’t break massive portions of the live game.
And as a side note to this, why are the devs so quick to fix something like the karma weapons exploit but making negative progress at fixing dungeons rewards and taking forever for even that much of an update?
Got him to 25%, same walrusing thing. Seriously, otter Anet. If you want us to run all paths, don’t make them so whaleing hard. Penguin this.
Of course, it may be that there is a mechanic that we are missing, but we also tried every-sealing-thing like LoSing, burning crystals at the last phase, et cetera. That is bullkitten.
The only possible way I can see is to permanently put poison on the boss, but Anet has also stated that you don’t need a particular class makeup to complete a dungeon. So what the dolphin is this bullshrimp then?!
5/5 would read again.
When people started posting about him, I looked into his skills and found he does need a few updates to certain things that weren’t working properly or displaying properly. Those will be in next week.
Our QA group, Alphas, and even groups on Live are able to defeat this boss, and I’ve seen those groups have vastly different class makeup. He’s hard, but not impossible. Explorable dungeons were billed as being hard. Some things are unfairly difficult though, and we are actively trying to balance these things. Bringing them to our attention always helps with speeding that up
If you’re tuning these things for level 80 characters with maxed out gear then why are we being downranked?
Suggestion:
Roll back the last two patches (all of it, the events and skills supposedly fixed still break/are broken) and put this kitten on a public test realm so that you get some proper bug testing because it’s pretty kitten obvious that you aren’t doing it internally.
I’m not sure I understand what you’re saying.
Everyone in there was dropped to 40 on entering. We were all level 14 in the area outside to dungeon so I had no idea we had a 79 in the group until he started talking about planning to hit 80 tonight.
We’ve all got the same skill bars now – so we’re essentially on par. Maybe it would have been a little tougher with all level 40s – but given the difficulty it had, that would just make it equal to AC, and not slightly easier – so still no bad thing.
The 79 in your group had massively superior stats to the rest of your group, to the degree that without a special spec he could probably solo a silver elite in there. His damage was MASSIVELY higher than yours and your entire team.
Maybe you’re new or don’t know how the stats in this game work but gear still has a higher impact even with downranked.
Now, if he died even once in that run, he was at least 70c in the red for that run. He may have gotten more exp but he definitely got the same gold reward. Hell, you yourself ran in the red for doing that run, there was no reason for you to be there and you got nothing from it.
Takes more than 5 minutes to get the first chest (after the bomb run). This isn’t a solution and it isn’t a stopgap fix to the terrible “fixes” made to farming.
So you ran a negative run? Why should a high level player help lowbies through an instance that they will otherwise not be able to clear?
if they are not intended to be possible for players under 80 to do?
I think everyone is kinda missing the point here about this instance and ALL exploration mode instances.
Why should it be required that you be fulled decked out in exotic gear and level 80 to clear an instance that downranks you to a lower level? Why aren’t the instances just level 80 then? The downranking implies that it is intended for a specific level of player to be able to get through.
3.CoF is supposed to be the 2nd hardest dungeon out in Tyria at the moment. Arah being the hardest, CoF probably the 2nd hardest due to being a lvl 75+ Dungeon. The fact that it was being farmed for cheap gold, tokens + xp is absurd. I can really see why the Dev team changed some things.
I had to laugh at this. Have you even tried CM explorable?
You don’t need to be “elite”, you just can’t PUG thekittenthings. Explorable mode dungeons weren’t designed to be easily pugged through.
Go run CoF magg and tell me that isn’t broken.
requires organization and skill.
It doesn’t require either of those, it requires knowledge of how to exploit a particular mechanic so that you can progress past a very plainly unbalanced portion of the game. The dev himself said the intent of the bomb room is to fight the mobs that spawn. This is actually impossible to do.
The entire approach of making exp mode the “end game content” (which isn’t what the devs said at any point you ignorant kitten)makes no logical sense if you are downranked when doing them.
The amount of money people made from Running easy CoF Dungeon Farm Runs was absurd. It was fixed.
Problem? There are many other ways to make money, not the same amount in the same amount of time as that function was never supposed to exist. You could actually make more outside dungeons too if you tried.
Completely breaking content isn’t fixing it, no matter how you look at it. If they wanted people to get less from farming it then the loot reduction was enough. What they did, however, was make that route (as well as the first one) completely impossible for all but the most overgeared and organized groups and that isn’t balanced or good by any stretch of the imagination.
Why would anyone run anything but the easiest/shortest run then, killer?
the first one, butcher lol
you also didn’t account for the fact that path 2 isn’t possible now.
Two things:
26s per run assumes you’re finishing said run and not hitting the 30 minute DR that bumps you down to ~6s (some people are reporting 6s even for a fresh run).
It also assumes that path 2 is actually possible right now, which it’s not.
They didn’t change Arah Story Mode yet though, did they?
Well they nerfed the kitten out of the gains for it so it’s like 6s and 20k exp
Probably because him not showing up is a legitimate bug, not a stupid change made in haste by a dev that doesn’t care much about doing his job well.
With one not graveyard zerging rush the bomb path and killing them like our mister dungeon designer suggested.
I’d take either way. I doubt that it can be done without exploiting it.
I want to see JUST ONE person who can run this instance path after the patch post a video of it because I’m calling bullkitten that they are getting past the doorblast room without exploiting.
Well it apparently has to be possible in some way. I see the guy who made the dungeons try to defend his views on the update so clearly he must have made some sort of secret that some people have figured out. The only reason I do these dungeons is for the armor skins. All the crafted ones look pretty terrible and the dungeon ones are the only ones that look good. I’d get the cultural ones, but I don’t have 100 gold for armor skins.
did it not occur to you that he was lying?
6s doesn’t even cover the cost of waypointing out there in the first place.
Oh, and drakken is totally exploiting the doorblast room.
So you’re either lying or blatantly exploiting.
They were meant to be exclusive
Who the kitten told you that?
What playtesters? You think this patch was playtested?
They’re overtuned, the current ones were obviously never intended to be fought the way they have to be. /bug it, complain about it on the forums and wait/hope for it to be fixed.
Realistically, write off the path as broken forever because you’ll get idiots coming in here saying it’s fine.
Magg path, and yes it’s a substantial difference than just getting 2silver, I’m doing it for the tokens anyways.
And how exactly are you exploiting the doorblast room to be able to get past it?
