T4 → T5 is higher skill, T1 → T3 is just reflex – we rely on intuition: the reason why so many guilds are making homes in our servers.

What if culling is unfixable?

Culling probably can’t be eliminated. It’s a game of numbers that is stacked against the developers; simply sending the positions of all the players on the map would likely blow the pipe.

However, it can very likely be significantly improved. I suspect the improvements they are talking about might involve things like variable-length encoding and so forth, but these things take time – especially in the QA department: they can’t just release what they have, mostly because threads such as this one would explode everywhere complaining about “how they broke WvW.”

Idea to solve the problem: Let us create chat channels out side map, party, guild etc. This would then allow several guilds to communicate, allow people to get advise from a large base of people and allow people in WvW to request help out side of there WvW map. This would solve alot of problems.

Sounds like in-game IRC integration would be the biggest bang for buck here.

/bow to the solo mesmer scout from “Song” (we found him scouting around Mendon’s Gap). Kept about 4 of us busy for a good while with smoke, mirrors and confusion (even downed some of us a few times).

Considering we were some of the few running dolyaks and patrolling keeps on the map that little fiasco hurt AG a little. Well played.

Mesmers mandatory in wvwvw, unfair?

Exactly. This is a lot of QQ about what I call support mesmers. People actually have no concept of how much we sacrifice in order to gain the ability to help our team deal with zergs (namely: losing the ability to do any real damage against single targets). In that case add this to list:

trying to 1v1 pretty much any other level/class/build lol

Mesmer is a versatile class. Support mesmers would be frustrating for 1v1 builds running in a zerg, as is a 1v1 build frustrating for a solo dedicated support mesmer (in fact any build is frustrating for a solo support mesmer).

Now I hear that swirling winds is pretty much a requirement for sieges. Also I hear banners, turrets, consecrations, symbols and wards are great for dealing with zergs. There are these other things called marks that make quick work of defenders. Those spirits are entirely OP for keeping your teammates alive, as is that bear on resurrect mode. Dagger storm is really annoying when half your zerg gets crippled.

And yes, you will complain that those decrease the potency of your build: exactly how my build is near useless for 1v1 – heck I can’t even run away. Sacrifice. If you want to concentrate on WvW build your character for that, not sPvP.

What I would do to have some of the ele skills on my mesmer.

Mesmer Portals

allow people to get keeps/towers without breaking any gates or walls.

Portal bombs only work these days through extremely good coordination. Portals make a nice target for players who are itching to burn their AOE spells.

All classes are balanced at a certain level of broad (server-wide) competency.

I for one, struggle with CM

To be honest I thought Anet designed it to teach players graveyard zerging (considering how the one waypoint is close to er, everything and how ranged enemies 2 hit you at level 80).

When it takes a full group of level 80’s in exotics to do what is supposed to be doable by a group of level 40’s, it’s a bit too difficult in my humble opinion.

Couldn’t agree more. I think the only dungeon that is requirement level balanced is AC, and that’s with the boss exploits (personally, I did do it without the exploits the first couple of times – but luckily the PUGs were extremely skilled the boss was generally a walk-over, but I don’t see some of the level 35’s I have helped through it being able to do that).

Although maybe that’s level scaling doing its job (I highly doubt it).

Edit: I just realised that with the cost of death, level 30-79 characters won’t be able to run dungeons because they will be marginalized by players uninterested in helping newbies.

I’d really like the devs to do something to alter the unintended griefing nature of these abilities when it comes to important visual cues like Kholer.

Keep in mind there is also an auditory queue (which is what I have resorted to using because I am a glamour mes).

As always you need to get the chance to see (or hear) what you should be seeing (or hearing) and hiding behind walls gives you that chance.

Lieutenant Kholer

He raises his hand, here’s the important bit, AND it glows. Plus it takes significantly longer to execute than any of his other animations, 3 seconds is freaking ages. Don’t try to dodge the minute his hand goes up, wait 2 seconds to see if you need to.

If it really worries you stand by a wall – allowing you to walk behind the wall every time you suspect he is doing it; saving you from dying due to false dodges.

You will pick it up eventually, it’s a bit hard to spot for novices (no insult intended, we all got killed by him a good couple of times) through particle effects and whatnot. It is very distinct from his other animations, you just need a little more experience to actually notice it.

I did did suggest that in another thread and missed this one that is more on-topic; guess I’ll put what I had to add to the mechanic here too.

Firstly, allow players to res when an objective is over, maybe, 90% complete. This means that you won’t be denied involvement during the final stages of a boss fight because you got bad timer luck.

Alternatively, remove the current mechanic where only the final part of the DPS counts towards contribution and instead use the contribution since the boss last spawned OR regened health due to the invulnerability mechanic. The current contribution mechanic plain out encourages players, for a start, to use the troll against Kohler – I don’t see it really achieving anything else. Either way, if the players total contribution is known it doesn’t matter if they die 40% of the way into the fight; they still get their share of the fight (whether the rest of the party can complete the fight is another story entirely, leading to reinforcement timers likely being the only suitable solution).

I think a fair compromise would be to add a “reinforcement” timer. Every, say, 15s dead players would be allowed to waypoint. In addition to that, if any reward sequence is over, say, 90% complete (read: 10% health remaining on bosses) players can waypoint at any time despite the reinforcement timer.

Depending on the values (mine are probably wrong) it’s win-win. If you depend on graveyarding a lot things are going to be a lot trickier and you will need skilled kiters to avoid the boss health regen (while you are waiting for the timer to tick over) – you won’t be denied boss kills though if you die mere seconds before the boss gets killed.

Alternatively, keep track of the sequence lifetime assist percentage (be it damage, buffing allies, anything that contributes to success really). Keep in mind that any boss invulnerability regen should reset the assist percentage the second it starts ticking. That way it doesn’t matter if you are killed moments before the boss goes down because the game has kept track of your contribution (which it seems to do at the moment for the last bit of damage, which actually encourages players to use exploits such as Troll/Kohler – I am sure thought went into that mechanic, but it has turned out to be entirely counter-productive; time to remove it, it doesn’t work).
