So in this update will engineers receive the buff to their kits to increase their damage to ascended levels

Wait a second. Are we sure that kits don’t get the correct damage in the first place? I know for a fact my sigils are active on my kits, which leads me to believe that the weapon stats are as well.

planning on implementing this

I had the impression it was in testing, not planning – last I heard it was something along the lines of “combining WXP has many border cases so we are testing them.” So now that it’s somehow progressed backwards into planning do we wait another 6 months for the release?

There is players getting their hopes up for features you haven’t promised – and then there’s you giving us conflicting information. At this point I have lost all faith in you (after repeatedly defending your case) and would like to now know:

Is merged WXP still the plan? Or has the concept been scrapped.

Krall you are really arguing for the sake of it now:

And yet people don’t see to have any issues whatsoever that PvP:ers “have to” do PvE in order to gain the vast majority of stuff.

You are either living on another planet or are not speaking out of experience. A thread complaining about how WvWers (the PvPers in question here) have to do PvE in order to gear is opened at least once a month on the WvW subforum; the whole forum agrees with the player and then the thread dies.

Most players don’t like doing other game modes – sPvP players complain that there rank kitten are level 1 in PvE. WvWers complain that they can’t get access to dungeon armor. PvEers complain when they get knocked off the Obsidian Sanctum JP.

One suggestion I had for another game was to use a translation service (Google Translate/whatever) on the players’ behalf. This could even be done on the client.

I’m not sure how the translation services would deal with some of the acronyms/lingo that some regions use though – still, even poor translations would give players a general idea of what is being said.

In all honesty though, this isn’t a problem. European players/problems are notoriously ignored or poorly treated by all MMO devs – I am not holding thumbs as to any attention being paid to us regarding this problem.

Guild Wars + AMD Mantle?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

zamalek.2154

it would also be expensive to code

Exactly, but times a million. You don’t just magically flip a switch and suddenly support Mantle.

Mantle is all about removing CPU bottlenecking with direct3d.

That’s a very broad statement. One of the things Mantle does is reduce the overhead of “Draw” calls; they can make a game CPU-bound if you overdo them.

still only using directx 9, which is over a decade old

And is still perfectly functional. Take note: DX11 requires better hardware for the same featureset – i.e. implementing DX11 (because it’s not a decade old) would likely make the game run slower.

Saying that implementing Mantle in GW2 would make a difference is conjecture to the utmost extreme. The only people who would be able to determine whether Mantle would help are ANet: they can profile the game to determine where the bottlenecks lie. If the bottlenecks align with the improvements Mantle offers then on a theoretical level using it would be a good idea; on a practical level the cost wouldn’t justify the result – Mantle is a bare-metal API which makes it extremely expensive to develop for.

I want to be very clear: I support the principles of good presentation over rigid formatting.

I guess I don’t understand how format limits creativity.

I’m on the fence here (being logical and creative) – my creative side is notoriously bad at collecting thoughts together and forming a coherent story. People who are providing viable feedback to the CDI are likely creative types, and therefore, likely share the same trait.

Format helps as a guide to collecting thoughts. Too much format stifles creativity. How about “you should really try and stick to this template, but feel free to tweak it if you have problems fitting your ideas into it.”

CDI- Process Evolution 2

in CDI

Posted by: zamalek.2154

zamalek.2154

Direct feedback:

2: Build out more time for Devs to engage (This is already in progress)

I am sure you have heard of the 3M innovation days (where post-its came from). Maybe allocate mandatory time (Friday afternoons?) during the week where devs/designers/artists/produces (remember players, many more people are involved in the creation than just “devs”) can get involved with the community in one way or another. How they get involved is up to them – it could even be visiting servers with no ANet love and join in a champ train and chat; or going full forum warrior (read: CDI). This would have multiple advantages – notably communities would feel as though the devs are involved (something you have completely lost since the days of GW1, at least for us ANet unpopulated servers), everyone would be more in touch with the community’s sentiments and you everyone would have a deeper ownership of what goes into the game.

3: Thread owner to post a summary every three pages (The community did awesome here, but I want to build out more time to do this)

I agree that the community did fantastically. Personally I would leave it to them – a nice forum feature would be an automatic 3rd page reserve for people you designate (such as Bezragon).

1: We need to keep thread and post sizes more manageable. Should we put a limit on the word length of posts?

To me the CDI is a creative process and length limits gets in the way of that; however much of the same type of stuff can be said at times. Additionally there is a lot of noise (“oh your idea is dumb” and such posts) that you need to mentally sift through. That, in my opinion is where the energy is wasted – even through Chrispy can rant on for a while his/her posts are well worded and as consise as they can possibly be (his/her ideas simply take that many words) – they are a pleasure to read and draw inspiration from.

What I would do is quite the contrary to what you suggested. Limit how often people can post on the threads (once every 4 hours or so?) and in addition have a much larger minimum character requirement. In my humble opinion you want to encourage those longer, more thought out posts.

2: How are we going to chose topics moving forward, for example, by votes or by Anet choosing them etc?

Direct answer: a bit of both. 3 from the community, 3 from ANet.

Rant: Well there’s my thoughts initially about this thread. Is a forum the right format for the CDI? Think about the admin required to find the candidates and then tally the votes – I think your time is more valuable than that. You are in very new territory here. The CDI is something I haven’t seen done before and I would venture to say that nobody has ever approached a problem like this before. The closest existing solution I can think of is kanban; but that would be dreadful with so many contributors. Maybe allow select members (<cough> Bezragon <cough>) to transfer ideas out of the thread into the kanban and start voting/shuffling them there, other members could vote+comment on the cards but not admin them. You could incubate cards/ideas in the “Phase 1” column and move them to the right (“Phase 2” etc.) as they get voted up.

Or a wiki with a specific workflow.

I’m just not convinced that forums are the correct format here.

Edit: Come to think of it the Stack Exchange (StackOverflow etc.) format might actually be a perfect fit here.

Crazy theory corner: tengu and Orr

in Lore

Posted by: zamalek.2154

zamalek.2154

There was the uncounted race – their true identity unknown.

There’s no uncounted race. Five races – according to jotun stalae – against six Elder Dragons.

Check the link Konig. There is dialog at the bottom that hints at a 6th race – once again,
“hints,” anything can be drawn from what Trueclaw says – but it’s at least one cannon account of a sixth race if taken somewhat literally. There is a branch of lore theory (not my own) that indicates that there seems to always be 6 sentient races to counter the dragons.

Because time hasn’t moved on. It’s been a year in reality, but remember that all story-driven game live in this strange limbo.

Not really. It won’t move on until ArenaNet touches it. I mean, Kessex Hills can be argued to be stuck in two timelines – as can Twilight Arbor.

Exactly my point (I think the unclear bit there was “reality”, I meant “IRL”), it’s a strange timeline and takes a weird mindset to get the hang of it – but if you do you can start piecing things together.

There is no way in all that is holy or not for the tengu prophecy to be able to know that a race would be born and be able to cleanse dragon corruption, let alone just a means to cleanse corruption would be found.

And it still remains to be seen if PT/Trahearne’s plan works out – because we know how all things Trahearne end.

Crazy theory corner: tengu and Orr

in Lore

Posted by: zamalek.2154

zamalek.2154

The tengu took the awakening of Zhaitan to be a sign to return “home”, to Tyria. The tengu originally come from Tyria? Cool. The awakening of Zhaitan is some sort of positive sign? Strange, but whatever.

Or a sign to pull together and reinforce. Possibly hide like the Seers did with Glint?

that the tengu have some knowledge of the Elder Dragons’ last rise, and are in possession of forgotten lore from those times. Why, or how? Who knows. We don’t know a lot about ancient tengu history, but if the tengu were counted among the elder races, you’d have thought someone would’ve mentioned it by now.

There was the uncounted race – their true identity unknown.

With Zhaitan gone, the tengu have few obstacles to moving to Orr, but that would require revamping the entire region and seriously affecting the structure of the personal story, which ANet clearly didn’t plan to do […] And from a lore point of view, the tengu have had over a year now, so why haven’t they upped and left the Dominion of Winds? Because this interpretation is probably wrong, that’s why.

Because time hasn’t moved on. It’s been a year in reality, but remember that all story-driven game live in this strange limbo. When a true expansion comes out that’s when time moves on. Possibly by a few years.

But what, exactly, does it mean?

Braham likes bacon, which makes him a true hero.

And the forming of the one star in no way indicates that it’s one star per Elder Dragon.

It stands to reason that the star would have certain properties to be aware of. A prophecy of any form would certainly be aware that Zhaitan would be the first to be fully let loose. Also keep in mind that a prophecies about a specific stars usually go into some detail about their appearance.

I don’t think the tengu would really go after land claimed by an Elder Dragon. Corruption and all. Some of their knowledge on the ED hint that they, well, know of the Elder Dragons – possibly even from the previous rise.

Considering that PT/Trahearne have cast that cleansing spell – you never know. If the Tengu playable race (or more NPCs) do happen at some point in the future we may learn more; but at this point in time the amount of content we have forces us into conjecture – and I think this is a stellar (haw haw) attempt at it.

It was placed there intentionally. If it were to mean nothing it wouldn’t be there. Someone at ANet said “go and put black splotches here.” This is ANet we are talking about – they are known for hiding things in plain sight.

Mephu’s theory about destroyer caverns seems the most solid idea given the current general consensus that Scarlet is fooling about with Dragons. However,

The northern unmarked one is over Godslost Swamp. The western one you marked is over Viathan Lake, where the TOwer of Nightmares was.

Which means they could signify areas of Zhaitan undeath, or more generally, large-scale magical meddling of some form (including her own).

Scarlets tormentor: Dhuum & Menzies' theory.

in Lore

Posted by: zamalek.2154

zamalek.2154

Dhuum: / Menzies:

From a purely meta perspective players have been asking for more about the human gods. There was some discussion in the thread that contained my “demonic possession or similar” theory on whether possession is possible in GW lore. You may want to read onwards from that post (Konig’s and Tobias’s debate) – it could give you some ideas. So from that standpoint this is a good theory. However,

Abbadon

In the words of Konig: dead, dead, dead, dead, dead, dead, dead.

ANet have said we won’t be revisiting Abbadon. Being a god he’s not materialistic so he doesn’t have the coppers to waypoint – it’s the gods’ Archilles heel.

All five races and the tengu (new race available) must not only fight Scarlett but an Elder Dragon, Dhuum(his reapers), Menzies(his shadow army from the Fissure of Woe), and Abbadon(or just minions).

This makes a lot of sense with the LS format (armies working themselves out the woodwork).

Overall I like your theory – a lot of people are touting “dragon dragon dragon” so it’s nice to see another perspective.

Kessex Hills Tower Ruins Cleanup

in Lore

Posted by: zamalek.2154

zamalek.2154

Will the ruins of the Nightmare Tower and giant dead roots in Kessex Hills ever be cleaned up? The Toxic Alliance for the most part has been defeated, so wouldn’t the Sylvari, Order Members and Krytans be trying to clean up and rebuild by now?

Keep in mind that there were players were repeatedly moaning about these two things repeatedly regarding the LS, repeatedly:

  • “Scarlet’s plans always fail and have no consequences.” The mess that Kessex has become is consequences. I would like to see it cleaned up but certainly not rebuilt for a long time.
  • “Our actions have no consequences.” Again, Kessex is a mess partially because we toppled the tower (instead of, er, dismantling it). I would expect the tower mess to be there for a while still.

This is ANet listening to us. It will go back to normal eventually but I am not expecting any time soon. It magically recovering in a few months is also incredibly unrealistic. What I would hope to see:

  • Everything that was destroyed remains destroyed. The trees start growing (saplings) but don’t magically fully grow in one patch.
  • Champs remain for a while. When they are removed they:
  • Become special “throwback” mobs that remain as evidence. For example: “Suffering Spider Queen | Weak Attacks, Applies Confusion to Self, Applies Fear to Self” They could drop vendor trash that indicates they were part of the nightmare tower (drop of toxin?)
  • A few NPCs in the area reminisce about the tower.

Now I’m entering suggestion territory so I will shut up.

Scarlet's Experiments: Leading to a New Race?

in Lore

Posted by: zamalek.2154

zamalek.2154

What if her experiments brought about a forced intervening of a new race?

I would err on the side of “not yet.” Although ANet have let the cat out of the bag somewhat in terms of expansion-level content:

Scarlet’s journal talks about Mordremoth and how she wants to face it – it’s the source of her madness 1 2 although there could be other explanations 3. Dragons and new races are expansion-level content – their releases need not coincide but one assumes that they would.

1: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/lore/lore/dragon-painting-in-scarlet-s-lair/3539443
2: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/lore/lore/dragon-painting-in-scarlet-s-lair/3541459
3: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/lore/lore/dragon-painting-in-scarlet-s-lair/3541495

I don’t actually know at this point, well played ANet.

What if these attacks on Tyria she has done led to making a new race come forth? What would you theorize they would be?

There is the theory that the Tengu were removed from the game as a playable race (deadlines or countless other reasons); which makes complete sense as the Dominion of Winds is perfectly located for a starting area. It’s also the most-requested race and I remember ANet saying “they were paying attention to the players’ requests for the next race.”

Would it really be all that bad if an average group of players could win?

They can sort of. At some point the pioneers (Deso, TTS, etc.) will nail down super-reliable strategies and then an organised group plus (I hear Tequatl is doable with a group of 50 on TS helping the rest of the map – a far cry from the 180 that TKS had on TS3 for the first kill) averages can get it down.

[…] good stuff […]

Although I am not involved in the Wurm efforts (I do feel like doing it at some point, it’s not bad content), I completely agree with how you approached this patch. The marionette is there for easy kills (seems like Auroraglade have stretched in the way you have described) and then go fail for fun with the pugs at the worm.

I will probably get round to Wurm some time (heck, I was in the first TKS Tequatl kill ) but right I feel like having more casual fun in the game: having two bosses to choose from allows me to enjoy the game no matter what mood I am in. High-end content like the Wurm isn’t what I want to do right now, but if I did feel like high-end content I would be at a loss were it not for the Wurm.

I have to admit that Tequatl was a bit unfair [for the anti-social] – new content that casuals would invariably fail, without other options, isn’t the best. This patch is exactly what you need to keep doing – just make sure to never give high-end players a stats bonus over casuals (exclusive recipe drops etc.).

Maybe I am the only one who realises that nobody is forcing me to play EVERY part of your game.

"Guild Wars" a misleading title

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: zamalek.2154

zamalek.2154

But at least not disrespect it as much as it has become one of the main foci of the writing team! I mean, you wouldn’t handwave away the importance of the very reason these wars broke out, would you?

The reason I still care about the lore is because one writer simply can’t ruin the ENTIRE game; and despite their retcons to retcon retconning retcons there is still a lot around that does tie into the old lore. From a lore standpoint the game is a sequel with a horrifically executed story continuation from the prequel to it; having had it badly executed does not detract from the fact that it was intended to be a sequel.

However, forget entirely the lore, most people are here to complain about the lack of “official” GvG – which is certainly not something “Guild Wars” is about. One commonly requested feature for Guild Wars is ship battles; so pray tell – what exact game mode is an “Arche Age?” It isn’t one. It’s the name of the story of the first released title in the MMO. Furthermore, let’s say for instance sake that there were really very bloody [and possibly awesome] GvG Guild Wars 250 years ago in Tyria and that’s all it was about; does it not stand to reason that in 250 years something may change?

The title of something begets its story, not its mechanics. Guild Wars 2 has an incredibly broken story continuation from Guild Wars 1 but it is still a continuation. This thread is just another poke to get GvG into the game; and while I would like to see it too – I do remember being told it may be considered.

[suggestion]Private overflow Raid Boss maps

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: zamalek.2154

zamalek.2154

Having previously been one of the overflow scouts for the first couple of TKS kills I know how frustrating this is. It doesn’t even need to be private – organised overflows fill at an incredible rate. It is also why I have not re-applied to said guild because I don’t want any part of this overflow sillyness – the overflow situation means that I will be avoiding the content entirely until the rush is over; which is surely not how you intend people to react to this content.

How about an NPC in LA that sells a consumable item for 5 or so gold (it needs to be sufficiently expensive so that people don’t create masses of overflows in order to destabilize the overflow servers). No matter which map you are on and even if you are already in an overflow, when this item is consumed a fresh overflow will be created and you will be placed inside it. You could optionally have an, e.g. 1 minute, cooldown on the overflow that prevents players from being automatically allocated to it.

This is required functionality to be able to make the claim that content is designed for organised groups.

The Marionette is Well Designed: Here's Why

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: zamalek.2154

zamalek.2154

Yes, it is hard (perhaps harder than it needed to be), but perfectly doable by casual, unprepared players.

And that could come down to pure dumb luck.

Nope, I went on to the map after Mad Queen Malafide who was leaving after the 2nd consecutive kill for the server; and did organizing in map chat with only 20-30 people on TS: we went on to bag a 2 more consecutive kills. I’m not sure if that kill streak was extended after I left to fractals – I am sure it was.

A 4 kill streak is not luck.

Wurm … We were making that specifically for the hard core groups that are all about the organization and figuring out the strategy and tactics.

I’m probably the one player who is okay with this (who isn’t part of one of the organised groups). I was in TKS during their first Tequatl kill (even though I am no longer) so my opinion might be biased – but you guys did say up-front before the patch dropped that Wurm was going to be hard and approachable [at first] only by organised groups. You explicitly stated that this content wouldn’t be puggable from the get-go. When I do feel like completing it I will join/set up an organised group and bag a kill and I know the failures will be as much fun as the victory. You really need to look at a systems that helps these groups set up overflows though, I know how annoying it was during TKS-Tequatl fights as I did overflow scouting and I am sure it’s still as frustrating.

I’m really looking forward to more patches like this.

That dragon painting looks similar to this concept art. I think perhaps that this dragon may be Mordremoth

I wake from nightmares – screaming, confused and scared. It’s getting worse. I’ve decided to talk to a mender. I’ve probably been working too hard.

Every night, the same terrors. It never changes. The mender was unable to help me, and I feel like I’m losing control of myself.

When the nightmare starts, an entity calls to me. I run – run into a sea of darkness. But not matter how hard I try to escape, it keeps calling me.

I’m trying to sleep – too scared to even close my eyes… So scared. Whispers come from the forest all night long, calling me, taunting me, possessing me.

Tonight, I saw it. I stared into the abyss, and it stared back at me. So much power. I don’t know what’s real and what isn’t anymore.

Control of my world, of myself, is slipping through my hands. And yet, I’m no longer scared.

It communicated with me through images of death, destruction, and destiny. I must know more. I must confront it and put and end to this madness.

Pay special attention to the bold world in paragraph 4 Malafide. I liked my demon theory, but hey, you know…

Anyhow, somewhat off topic I really enjoyed her voice acting in the journal.

3) Despite the large group setting

I completely agree with your post, apart from this point: there is no large group setting in the game that you need to defend. The groups should be 20-25 in size which isn’t that large (certainly not the size of the Tequatl/Wurm attacker groups). However, when you say “what you do individually matters here” I couldn’t agree more. With the pad mechanic (which even further dilutes the groups; even though it’s somewhat broken at the moment ) your actions are crucial – a single warbanner or whatever can save the entire battle.

As Mad Queen Malifide said in the linked thread: pity one of the best (if not the best) boss fights is only here for 2 weeks. Although I wonder if the content would get old – still it’s great for now: would recommend to anyone.

Haven’t paid attention to see if chill affects them, but you might be right here. Also not sure what triggers the sudden sprint

I don’t think chill affects them. I threw loads of ice ‘nades and it made no difference. Here’s the thing though, I have lead/commanded about 7-10 lanes by this point and it has boiled down to me saying (and this strategy is nearly always a perfect defense):

  • “Nobody stand at the portal – I want everyone at the bottom in attack range of where they spawn”
  • “Static fields on the clockwork champions when they spawn. Do not use static fields for anything else.”
  • “Kill clockwork champs → clockwork trash → other alliances”
  • “If clockwork mobs spawn drop what you are doing and deal with them first”
  • “Only chase clockwork mobs up the lane, stay at the bottom if the lane is clear of clockwork mobs”
  • “AOE AOE AOE AOE AOE AOE AOE AOE AOE AOE AOE AOE AOE AOE AOE AOE AOE”
  • “When a clockwork champ starts running use single-target damage on it”
  • “Here is a tray of omnomberry bread, eat”

The reasoning is very simple: I seems as though the champ starts running at 50% HP – you cannot use any form of slowing ability on the champ while it’s running. If you do maximum damage to it when it spawns it has further to run and therefore you have more time to damage it in the running state. If done correctly the champs won’t make it to where the first barricades are.

I have only had one attempt where a single champ got through; and that’s because a few players decided that having backup at the portal works better. It really doesn’t – the simplest and most obvious tactic is best in this case. In my opinion

If you don’t want to crash just lower your graphics – GW2 is substantially less stable with higher graphics even if you always get good framerates.

The Skinny Privilege of GW2

Not sure if serious…

I’m all for everyone being able to create the character that they want; but I have seen the body types that the OP is after – they are not extreme examples of obesity but at the same time, players are known for making joke characters (we loads of strange Norns on my server). In terms of keeping this thread constructive, this:

Not to mention there would be usability issues with this. Norns are already problematic in most jumping puzzles because of the camera etc.

This thread should have been locked/deleted on creation. I am sure there are people who would have liked to have a reasonable discussion about more body types in the game (there would be no reason to restrict the discussion to only obese ones) but the OP didn’t set the stage for constructive discussion. OP, if this is a legitimate request you should seriously rethink your approach to how to initiate discussions like this – hyperbole isn’t going to get you anywhere.

Not seeing what you are. I don’t think. Care to point out?

I have beautifully and carefully outlined it on the map. Maybe these are the actual ley lines (God doesn’t work with straight lines)?

The thumpers’ purpose is still unknown. The three-headed wurm and its ilk in the new meta event was an unintended side-effect.

From the events on Lornars Pass it would seem that they are for drawing power for her various weapons (unless I am completely missing something thumpers = power nodes).

and even after Zhaitan’s death, his minions still hold fanatical devotion to Zhaitan (as seen in Arah explorable mode).

Indeed – they simply don’t have Zhaitan coordinating their efforts.

I finished what was going on today without ever accessing Dulfy. I’m 7 out of 11 on the meta, I’ve been to Scarlet’s lair, got a bunch of loot (it was pretty cool)

Indeed. Also, Dulfy gets her information from within the game as well – so there’s that.

I have to admit that there is one thing that is completely off (despite defending ANet this whole thread): if this content is supposed to be “designed for coordinated groups” why don’t people have a way to create an overflow for our coordinated group? It does make the whole “coordinated” argument that they propose sound like a complete lie (actually, let me restate that – it is a lie).

Taimi's Golem

in Lore

Posted by: zamalek.2154

zamalek.2154

Did Snaff make it? Is Taimi a student of Snaff’s? Is Taimi as smart at Snaff (and draws inspiration from him)? Is she his child?

Now, how could I reach that conclusion, see exhibit 1 (my graphics are really low for the event, excuse the SAB-style look). One of my guildies (Ozay Gearbreaker) took the time to place the camera inside her golem and noticed that ANet have actually gone through the trouble of modelling the interior (pretty easy to do if you want to see it, she is near Winterthaw Waypoint).

The interesting part is that the golem has no driver (this is not glitched content, but rather inventive camera positioning), but she is on top of it – implying that she is the pilot. Interestingly:

any of Snaff’s inventions focused around the concept of using one’s mind to control devices

So Taimi could be somehow involved with Snaff – in one of the ways I described.

Cancelling a Res is a Fine Art

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: zamalek.2154

zamalek.2154

It is far too unreliable cancelling a res. I just had a case where I attempted to move, attempted to dodge, attempted to switch weapons, attempted to attack, attempted to use conflicting abilities (which worked, but I remained there ressing once they went off) and the only result is that I took the full damage of the AOE ring and was downed. Absolutely nothing worked. Not for me and not for the 3 people with me.

I don’t know the repro steps because cancelling ressing can be real easy at times (simply moving works).

Practically there is NEVER a circumstance where ignoring player input for the sake of a res is actually a good idea – it will nearly always lead to 2 dead players. If the player cancels the res out of error they can simply press F to continue.

Or does she perhaps think that we need more armies?

Possibly the current armies simply don’t have what it takes in the “you really need arms to be able to do this, but you are a worm” way.

  • Dredge: expert miners – Primordus.
  • Krait: expert swimmers – DSD.
  • Charr: expert warriors – any dragon.
  • Pirates: experts at living in harsh times (and also look at Lions Arch) – the times after dragons lay waste.
  • Watchknights: technically not living and therefore cannot be corrupted – any dragon.
  • Steam Creatures: even though they do have living cores maybe they are protected from corruption by their shell, also they are alien to our dragons and may present a challenge – any dragon.
  • Sylvari: expert toastmasters? (Makes no sense, maybe she just wants them involved because she is one)

Marionette: Intended Behavior or Bugs?

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: zamalek.2154

zamalek.2154

Just wanted to know if these are intended behavior or bugs/oversights:

  • People are randomly allocated to the champion pads. This is will RNG-auto-fail the fight in some circumstances (a player is left to solo the champ – or forbid, no player is allocated to a pad). It would make more sense to allocate players in round-robin.
  • When the mortars spawn in the lane (and subsequently your siege gets destroyed) it seems as though the wrench/hammer box disappears. We didn’t have any problems defending without the barricades/siege but I do have the sneaky suspicion that you intended us to be able to rebuild the siege.

ZERO help IN GAME to even give anyone a clue what to do

Emphasis mine. So on my first attempt at the cobalt wurm (I think, the one with the bombs). We went rushing in and started to attack it. “0 damage”, “invulnerable”. Hmmm… Inspects surrounds and notices that a NPC is giving us a kittenING CLUE: “The skin is too tough, maybe if we get it to eat bombs we can attack it.” Next thing you know the event window is giving me a kittenING CLUE that says “0/20 barrels”. The mini-map and HUD also contains this kittenING CLUE where there is a big red barrel. Hmm I wonder what I must do?

I know! Clearly the logical thing to do would be to come onto the forums and post about ANet not giving us any clues as to what to do – holding our hands and telling us EXACTLY what to do is technically not giving us clues so there is a problem here.

It is not the event, it is the placement player.

Fixed it for you. I remember someone harping on in a thread on these forums (I think the specific boss was Jormag) saying “Oooh how awesome would it be to have the events all over the map!” and all of us were like “oh man that would totes be the kittens.” Well now we have said epic event.

This game really needs one of these:

Theorycrafting on Scarlet

zamalek.2154

Wow. That’s likely the best theory on Scarlet that I have seen (and one of the best lore posts that I have read). It makes complete sense given how the dragons were “avoided” last time – extreme and drastic measures (for the uneducated, the bloodstones were created to avoid the dragons).

That means that Scarlet isn’t a hero or an anti-hero – she’s just not our hero (which actually makes her an interesting character).

There is a major stumbling block with slushley’s theory though; if she is making her own 6 races why does she even bother with the rest of us? One answer could be that she sees us a test subjects for her 6 races – proof of concept if you will; alternatively our magic use could be riling up the dragons in a way that interferes with her plans (if we were not around she would have more time to prepare or could reliably manipulate the dragons by laying honeypots cough magical energy nodes cough or something).
