I must say the amount off keys for chest is getting crazy. Its filling inventory up and its plain anoying. What do people think off a keychain option, for all i care gemstore as a convenient item. However i think the item should be accountwide so that all characters can use it without the need to bank it first pick it up etc.. Not the greedy you have to buy 1 for each character you have.

We said we didn't want the trinity

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: KryTiKaL.3125

KryTiKaL.3125

Lets get something straight here.

Anet was never against the trinity, what they were against was what the basic idea of the trinity has been for a long time. Where a specific class was shoehorned into a specific role. Anet did not want that, it did not want one class to only be viable in one role, they wanted each class to be able to accomplish the soft trinity (damage, control, support) in their own ways.

Sadly things did not go how they initially wanted them to and things turned into the zerker meta which is as unhealthy as unhealthy gets for GW2. PvE content, even with healers and “tanks” will not just be standing around face tanking, they have already shown even with temporary content, even with Living World content, that those boss fights involve movement, getting around and avoiding. They have applied those characteristics to enemies in HoT. Many people have -seen- it in the Beta Weekend Events.

The current zerker meta is not skill, its just sitting in a corner, stacked up, mashing buttons. At least PvP has variety, has goal purposes for different stat setups. PvE does too, Anet is just now trying to get people to utilize them because they have been there the entire time, people are just not touching them due to what the content has brought so they are trying to fix that.

They aren’t back peddling, they are just trying to fix what needs to be fixed so that their PvE experience can be far, far more enjoyable and challenging.

Or would you all rather think there is some sort of big huge conspiracy and be all paranoid? Because that is unhealthy too.

Druid Healer Confirmed - Feedback [merged]

There was always a trinity in this game, one of damage/control/support, all they are doing now is making those viable. We already have healers ingame, just no one chose to specc that way because it slowed down everything.

The druid reveal isn’t changing anything really, they jsut added more support to what most people call a selfish class.

Scrapper - Really bad name

in Lore

Posted by: Leo G.4501

Leo G.4501

WoodenPotatoes did a lore explanation of the Scrapper recently. Basically Scrappers are the dirty and bottom of Charr Society (or those cast into it). They are considered workers to be tossed at the worst jobs.

Worse is a subjective term. What other job could be worse than practically leaping into the jaws of an elder dragon to face down their minions on an unpredictable battleground?

Now before you go jumping to shove motivation down my Charr’s throat, work is work. Some jobs have to be done and whether it’s a task “below you” isn’t relevant when your expertise is building combat tools and weapons out of junk, which is what Engineers in GW2 do. I’d find it less dignifying for an Engineer not to jump at this task of pulling together the shambles that is the Pact one scrap at a time just because they value a useless title over getting the job done efficiently.

And let’s not forget the influence of other races. All 5 are working together now which means a blend of culture as well. I can see it now:

Norn Engineer: This pile of mess will take weeks to sift through.
Asura Engineer: If I had more golems, we can divide the work more efficiently.
Charr Engineer: Can’t we just make some golems then? Just use these parts…
Norn Engineer: …and this part and…~sigh~ my beard, we’ve only got 1 gyroscopic stabilizer…
Asura Engineer: Just keep picking through this junk and we’ll find more.
Charr Engineer: ~growl~ like scrapper’s work smashes a totaled airship engine with a sledge hammer
Asura Engineer: Scrapper?
Charr Engineer: Yeah, they’re the lowest rung on the military ladder. Practically on permanent junk detail.
Norn Engineer: …scrapper…I like it! Makes me want to swing a hammer too!
Asura Engineer: Perhaps, but even my scraps will result in technological masterpieces to marvel imagination.
Norn Engineer: Hey Scrapper, throw me that hammer!
Charr Engineer: ~growls~

Basically, what the term means to a Charr and what it means to the Pact can be two things. That’s isn’t necessarily a bad thing as normal language does that! What you’re pointing out is just an interesting quirk that likely brings more lore to light than it does dismantle it.

[Suggestion] Account Name Mail Addressing

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Brown Fang Thump.9482

Brown Fang Thump.9482

Eventually, I would really appreciate it if the sender of mail in the game was represented at all times by the account name, rather than a character name. I feel this change is necessary because, as a guild leader who gets mail from potential members, it is impossible to determine what account is sending me mail from the character name in the mail address. An interface change that allowed the account name to be seen on hover in the mail window, as it does in chat, would work well. Not having this information on hand makes finding an account in a long friends list hard.

In the mean time, perhaps there is something I’m missing. Does anyone else have a work around that would allow me to make a guild invite more directly from a character name in a mail message?

What To Do With The Tablet

in Revenant

Posted by: Treetoptrickster.4205

Treetoptrickster.4205

Here’s just one idea on how to make the Ventari Tablet a bit more user friendly:

1. The tablet is automatically summoned when you invoke Ventari and follows the player.

2. The tablet would normally follow you closely and not roam like pets sometimes do. While the tablet is following you its skills originate from the character’s position including the passive pulsing heal.

3. “Ventari’s Will” unbinds the tablet for 5-8 s during which the tablet remains at the targeted area. The tablet would not blink back to you while it is currently using a skill, so if you were maintaining “Protective Solace” or using “Natural Harmony” the tablet wouldn’t stop and port to you because the 8 seconds were up, it would finish its current skill first. This means that if the player is actively using the tablet it will function identically to how it does now, but if you stop using it the tablet will return to you.

4. Increase the knock back radius of “Energy Expulsion” slightly and make it so that using this skill destroys the tablet and summons it again at the player’s location.

My necro is scaring me silly right now…. She’s standing in a corner, caressing the Shadow greatsword I got her and cackling like the freaking wicked witch of the west. Absolutely terrifying….

Anyway… back to reality (haha).

The general premise of this specialization looks pretty good, though I’m a bit iffy on the ‘slow but powerful’ attacks with the sword.

I’m not super concerned about ‘lack of group support’ like a lot of others, probably because I typically play alone or with my husband (and we really aren’t into min-maxing). Even when I do wander into playing dungeons, I’ve never had any issues while on a necro. Still, I highly doubt that the new shouts won’t have “any” group support, but we’ll see when they go over the specialization tomorrow on the stream.

My only real concern is with the line “can become dangerous powerhouses over prolonged encounters.” I’ll agree with others that presently there aren’t really any of these in the [pve aspect] game (unless you intentionally make them that way). However, this may change with HoT (which I’m really hoping for).

Editing: My terrible spelling. Need more coffee…

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

3. He has both front legs and wings. That makes no sense.

Dragons are as such, having four limbs AND wings. Drakes are the ones with their foreclaws on their wings, like Smaug in Peter Jacksons Hobbit.

Smaug was supposed to have also 4 legs and wings. Tolkien himself made sketches of Smaugh, like the one titles Conversation with Smaugh and Death of Smaug

In those, Smaugh is seen having both wings and arms. That is not made-up. Tolkien himself did draw that.

But keep in mind that Smaug was not a ‘true’ dragon. It was something made by Morgoth, not something that evolved naturally in their own world. So the dragons of Middle Earth were once something like lizards. Which would explain the elongated bodies compared to the most common depictions of dragons as having large, robust, bull-like torsos.

Most of what you see in that film is made-up nonsense.

And although there’s not ‘official’ naming used, what you’ll see more often in fantasy is this:

  • Dragon. General umbrella term. Generally 4 legs and wings, but it may be with no wings or with no forearms or no legs.
  • Wyrm : Old and powerful dragon.
  • Wyrmling: Young dragon.
  • Wyvern: Distant relative of dragons. Not as intelligent as sentient creatures. Generally has their forearms as wings, so they only have 4 limbs, and sometimes with a mace-like tail with spikes or a scorpion stinger.
  • Drake: Another distant relative to dragons. Even less intelligent than wyverns. Generally wingless.

But in different fantasy settings they may use them in other ways. GW2 has some roots on D&D, so they use the terms in a way quite similar to D&D.

I think the only reason the whole “Sylvari date whoever they want” thing to provoke the relationship of Caithe and Faolain was just to point out the fact no LGBT characters existed at the time in popular games, whereas now, a whole multitude of games have LGBT characters.

I think a lot of the issue with people saying “We want LGBT characters”, comes down to the fact, most characters in the game haven’t even stated their sexuality. People are assuming all characters who haven’t displayed their sexuality are heterosexual, which simply might not be true. For all we know, Rytlock could be gay, which is why he hasn’t had any cubs despite being a slightly older Charr, and Jennah could be a lesbian, which is why she hasn’t produced an heir to her throne yet. We simply don’t know.

Its something I come across in RP quite a lot. A lot of people say to me “What sexuality is your character?” and I reply. “Who cares, until he wants to date somebody, nobody needs to know.”. Its the lore writer’s business concerning who-likes-who, and until they want to throw us that information, who cares.

On a side note, as a gay male, I do enjoy seeing homosexual couples in my media, because a man and a man, or a woman and a woman is what I see as normal, so I get that silly, warm “awh, thats cute”, feeling when I see homosexual romance in media because I can relate to it, whereas that doesn’t happen to me when I see a heterosexual couple.

On the topic of “Why is there no homophobia in Tyria”, I think the denizens of Tyria are a lot less wimpy than the people in the real-world. Considering they’re facing a potential apocalypse via Elder Dragon, I don’t think they really care about what gender their friend is into. They have bigger things to worry about, whereas people in the real world, have too much time on their hands, to formulate ways to be nasty to eachother. and take into account the vast majority of characters we meet in the GW2 storyline are soldiers in one form or another, and generally soldiers are more focused on reaching their goal (in this case, killing the Elder Dragons), rather than being focused on who they’re achieving that goal alongside.

What a bumperinio.

I’d like to say that games are not there to educate us about sexuality, relationships.

Romances – hetero, kitten , whatever – serve a purpose in a storyline. They shouldn’t be there because there it too little of lesbians, hetero couples. Because characters that are made just to be gay, lesbian or hetero and in relationship are just that – gay NPC, lesbian NPC or hetero NPC.

As long as it makes sense in lore, story, entire game world can be full of gay men or lesbian women for me.

But once you put one into the game just for sake of one or other having different sexual preferences, it doesn’t feel natural and I’m all against it.

Why should I care if you’re a lesbian, a gay or hetero? Serve your story purpose, don’t try to educate me or push into equality.

I think if ANet created another same-sex relationship and put it in the spotlight too soon, it’d probably spark a riot on the forums.

I personally think a well written love story is fantastic, regardless of gender. That said, I felt the slow development of Jory and Kas’ relationship was adorable. When they started holding hands, I immediately smiled inwardly and thought: “I knew something was up between those two.”

If ANet were to include a guy-guy relationship, I’d probably suggest they subtly add some side-quest implying such for players to stumble over.

Anything less than the treatment Kasmeer and Marjory got is not going to be enough to fulfil a request like this. To get the same treatment and prominence would mean we have to sit through a second relationship that has no relevance to the plot and it makes Tyria feel less like a place where you go on epic adventures and more like an episode of Glee, where inclusion and subversion are the driving forces behind the story, or at least the characters.

I’d rather we get characters that sell the conflicts in Tyria, who are plot relevant, not character’s who’s primary role in the story (beyond their initial appearance) was a romance between each other. There are so many characters in Tyria that obviously have relationships (the world reproduces after all) yet we never hear about them. It’s going to be very jarring if suddenly we spend all this time with the lesbian couple and around the corner we have the gay couple.

I’d be happy if future romances were treated the same as they were before – primarily only mentioned when they were plot relevant or minor inclusions in a character’s presence in the story. Tyria isn’t a soap opera, relationships are part of people’s lives but they don’t define the world of Tyria or why I’m interested in spending time there. Less melodrama and more story.

One thing i would love, love to know is how long it takes for them to make an armor set VS an outfit. I really do want both being made at all times. But i want to know the time difference it takes for each one… Not likely to ever happen…it doesnt seem to hard to do the idea ive seen posted around a few times where if you buy the outfit, you also unlock it as an armor for that weight. So you buy the balthazaar outfit, you also unlock a heavy armor skin that can be mixed and matched. Probably is the best solution, as they wont stop making outfits no matter how badly people complain about them, as they are making money off them.

[Suggestion] 1 Hand Stance Human/Sylvari Male

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tskales.2804

The human female one handed stance is considerably better than their male counterpart’s.

With the female stance, she keeps the sword at her side whereas the male seems intent on trying to jam it in to his own eye. This looks even more ridiculous if the male is duel wielding, as he appears to be trying to blind himself entirely.

I know that wings and golden pigs take priority over day one issues, but i’ll throw this out there anyway. I’d like to see the human/sylvari male one handed stance changed to resemble the female stance, or something that doesn’t look as dumb.

Thanks

One thing Anet needs to add to the contacts panel :: A comment section (beside friended user names) – Like countless other players, I have literally hundreds of people in my contacts and cant remember who most of them are. The panel currently has a nickname spot, but that erases their account name when you add it, which makes it difficult when people play different toons. Adding a comment section will allow for players to make a note of who that person is and where/how you met them. This should eliminate most of the confusion when dealing with large contacts lists.

Censorship – the principle that adults must live on pablum because baby can’t have steak.

That said, while I’m opposed to censorship of any sort, (with military disposition and technology being the sole exception), I have zero issue with people who comport themselves with such poor taste getting a permanent invitation to the world. (IE – hate speech = permaban, with no exceptions.)

I’d say get rid of the filters altogether; in-game and forum both. If someone behaves in a way that is deliberately hurtful to another, ban their account. If they love Tyria enough to buy a second account, they’ll likely think before acting from then on.

More seductive outfits for charr

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: PookieDaWombat.6209

PookieDaWombat.6209

OK, I cannot (nor will I speak on player feelings/thoughts regarding the attractiveness of Charr). its just not my thing, but to each their own I guess.

What I WILL speak on however are Charr, their lore and their society and how we as both players and non-Charr should not try to project our non-Charr-ness on them.

Charr are not human (obviously) and to that end do not have the same courting rituals that we do. I’m sure just as we recognize how Baboons court and mate, as humans we just don’t DO that ourselves. Our bottoms are not bright red, nor do they swell, etc. same goes for things like ostriches that perform a fairly ridiculous looking “dance” to attract mates. We see it, can recognize it for what it is, but won’t ever do it ourselves since that isn’t how we roll. We go for the nice outfits and body accentuating dress styles because that is our primary way of attracting mates, followed by bad jokes and awkward conversation. We are a highly social group with nuanced and highly varied views on life, politics, religion, etc.

Charr are not human. Charr are tribal and combative, even among themselves with small units that become like families. They are militaristic and even hand their children over to be raised by others. From a clothing aspect they tend to wear the same thing across genders as their clothes are not used to define them, or rather their gender isn’t as important as their function to the unit. From a mating standpoint I’d wager the suitability of a mate comes down to: Will this mate help make strong offspring to be proud of, can this mate be trusted, some healthy does of pheromones during “mating season”. Perhaps certain things about appearance may come into play, but the appear things might be length of tail or horns and not whether the mate looks good in a corset. “Sexy” outfits for Charr such as the one in the OP,I would think, would give most Charr a hearty laugh as they sat around in the Black Citadel while the one modeling the outfit pranced around making fun of humans and their need for such dresses. I just can’t imagine a Charr ever seriously wearing an outfit like that intentionally, nor any outfit like it.

Take a look at who stands upright.

Shamans.

Now look at the gw2 shamans. They’re all Flame Legion spellcasters, and they stand upright.

Per lore, the upright standing of charr is not natural, and a practice of the shaman caste.

It was established in lore that the reason why they are hunched over was due to their bone structure and their center of gravity. Said lore came from the same interview that revealed why charr have four ears, iirc.

Their physical appearance does result in some poor armor, but this is due to the fact that all non-cultural armor is designed for humans and just stretched/shrunk non-proportionally for the other races. If armor is the issue, request for better armor designing for charr.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

People, we need to absolutely STOP!

A plane crashed. It’s sad. It’s heart-wrenching. People died. This is all true. However it is also true that the world continues on.

Tragedy happens every day, whether we’re aware of it or not. If the world were to stop for every one that occurred, it would be forever stopped. We would be locked in a state of grief and mourning forever.

I understand that some people are hurting, and my condolences to those people. You need to grieve, do so, no one is saying not to. However, the world doesn’t stop turning just because you’re in pain (I know, I’ve been there), and the ones that are gone wouldn’t want the world to stop either.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

IMO “Playing airplane” is a good idea, but badly implemented. And the timing was bad, but I think that was an unfortunate coincidence. I really don’t think that avatars acting like a child innocently “playing airplane” is meant to be a reminder of, or a poke at, recent airplane disasters.
With a few fixes, I think “playing airplane” would make a good gem store item, and a much better April Fool’s Day event.
“Playing airplane” is problematic in many ways. Mostly because it’s mandatory/global. Why didn’t they just make it happen in towns, or better yet – email everyone a toy airplane that for 24 hours would let you “play airplane” when equipped? Two additional things would need to be fixed. Instead of being stuck in a “T-pose” constantly, your arms would go up only when running, and out of combat. Also, it would be nice if the flicker was an option for the toy. I think that these three changes would have negated the vast majority of problems that people have with “playing airplane”.
Please make this a gem store item for the people who want it.(I think the gem store item should be permanent, not a 24 hour thing.)
The “Old Time Movie Filter” was well implemented, but many things in this game are color-coded, and can’t be seen properly in this mode. Also, any time you put that much flicker on screen, it’s going to give a percentage of people eyestrain, headaches, or worse problems if they have certain medical issues. The flicker should definitely be optional if this becomes a gem store item.
The constant “T-pose” – this is just indefensible. It’s not how little kids “play airplane”. And if your arms came up only while running (and out of combat) it would resolve many busted combat animations, obscured PvP tells, awkward gathering animations, etc… It would probably greatly cut down on “crucifix pose” accusations. Because everyone wouldn’t be standing around, creepily stuck in that pose, which resembles but is not a crucifix pose. And I think that if it more closely resembled an actual kid “playing airplane”, it wouldn’t remind people so much of recent airplane crashes.
The death music was fun. I though it was very reminiscent of the time period that they were trying to evoke.
Once again, I think that this would be a great gem store item, especially with a few fixes.
