Just deny them the opportunity to use cloak and dagger as much as you can.
It’s their only stealth that has a short enough cooldown to be spammable and it requires them to be in melee range.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s much(x100000) easier said than done, but this is absolutely key in countering any X/D thief and it just so happens that both popular thief builds have dagger offhands. The only problems I really have with the thief class are the stealth rendering/culling problem (horrendous in WvW) and the fact that the steal skill has no indicator that it is about to be cast. It should be telegraphed somehow so that there is a least a sliver of a chance to avoid it since right now it’s a free combo opener.
a dagger/pistol thief can spam their number 5 attack + their number 2 attack to permastealth, along with blinding powder, shadow refuge, and their healing skill. I know because I rerolled to see what all the hubub was about permastealth. 95% of the time I can stay in stealth especially considering I have it traited that i gain initiative in stealth and I gain 2 initiative for every signet I activate, along with a couple other traits to increase stealth time and such.
…and Necros are one of the best classes against thieves
If it’s any consolation I GUARANTEE that thieves will be getting a nerf in the very short future. The community over there swarms anyone who even suggests that something might be a little out of whack between thieves and other classes. It’s obvious to anyone that doesn’t play a thief that things aren’t working as intended. I’d ask that some of them should wake up and suggest some things to balance it out, or they are gonna log in after a patch and find out they have been cut off at the knees.
Long story short, someone is afraid his class is gonna get nerfed so he comes to the forums and tells everyone to quit crying about it. Yeah that’s gonna end well…
You never know what kind of resistance you are gonna meet attacking a tower. You might meet 400 defenders and you might meet 3. Why wouldn’t you bring as many people and as much siege as you could?
I never understand this line of thinking and it always happens in the WvW threads. “You guys brought 400 people to take a tower, bunch of zerg noobs”. Why wouldn’t you bring that many people if you have them on the map?
If you wanna troll you should probably go play that other game that takes place in a galaxy far far away.
Game isn’t dying, go cry wolf in swtor.
A lot of players seem to dislike the nobleman’s set from CM simply because it has the tarnish/beat up look to the skin. I have seen a handful of NPC’s that look as if they have the same skin but with an untarnished look to it. I think a lot more people would appreciate the skin if you could choose between the two.
Let me paint a picture. I’m running to meet my guild’s zerg in WvW, and I literally meet a warrior face to face. I’m not super geared out but the majority of my stuff is exotic. He has a rifle I have my shortbow and my Murellow. I start to flank and unload on him with Quickening Zephyr and Crossfire. He hits me with 4 shots, and finishes me off with a 9k killshot crit. He never even switched to a melee weapon, never even tried to close the gap, and had 3/4 of his health left.
Warriors should not be able to out range rangers, but this is the state of things right now.
Evade his Volley, Evade his Killshot. I’m not sure why you’d be getting hit by a kill shot if it was just you and the warrior, it’s pretty easy to see long before it goes off. Sorry, there might be an argument in some respects on ranged warriors vs ranged rangers, but this isn’t it. You should have longer range, kite better, and the warrior has more to evade – crossfire constant bleed, crippling shot (which if it lands will slow him allowing your pet to hit him and apply bleeds), and if you’re flanking, concussion shot.
Why would you be running alone with a murrelow? So you can poison field any potential threats?
Frankly, this whole warrior vs ranger thing is getting a bit overblown. Yes a warrior does a lot of ranged damage, a lot of it is easily avoided. Yes a warrior has more viable ranged options than ranger has melee options, but you’re comparing straight dps to versatility.
To sum up, if you’re losing to a rifle warrior as a competent ranger, you need to adjust your approach, not call foul.
I have 4 evades on my hotbar. Your main strategy as a ranger has to be not getting hit. I evaded him 3 times (and not just spamming evades). He hit me 4 times + a killshot over the entirety of a fight. What versatility do we offer? Our melee is a lot weaker than warriors, we have lower crits, and their ranged is better. What is this versatility of which you speak?

After thinking about this nerf for a week or so, I have decided the reason they did it was because they saw a majority of rangers using the same or similar builds. They nerfed the damage to force players into playing a different build. The problem is there really aren’t any other viable builds.
The nerf isnt noticeable, its all in everyones head,
You are out of your mind. It’s a base 7.7% damage nerf and 25% when used with Quickening Zephyr. The math has been done. There are videos comparing pre-nerf shortbow fire rates with post nerf rates. Pre-nerf was 16 arrows with QZ, now it’s 12 arrows meaning that QZ is only increasing crossfire by a rate of 1.56 and not 2X like the tooltip claims.
If you don’t see the difference you are sleeping, or trolling.
Here is my input. This is the same thing that Bioware did to Mercs/Troopers. The class was basically a 1 button build consisting of gravity/missile spam. They said “we want the class to be more than 1 button cause it’s boring”. But instead of changing the class they just nerfed the damage on grav/missiles. This doesn’t make the class deeper or more enjoyable, it just makes the one viable spec less effective. So now you are spamming 1 button less effectively because there aren’t any other viable builds.
You wanna change the class, give us another option before getting rid of our damage. Quickening Zephyr took a hard hit with this nerf. NOBODY cared about this graphic glitch you talked about. Let me reiterate… NOBODY cared about a “graphic glitch”. I left Swtor because of how they treated the community. Don’t make me leave this game because I really like it.
Change the melee option to actually become useful in WvW or TPvP. Change the shortbow so that you have more than one attack option, a crappy poison option and 3 “ok” control options. Change spirit animals to actually become useful. Make the trap spec useful. Do something, don’t just nerf the kitten shortbow damage and call it a day. That’s lazy.

Longbow is useful but I don’t see it being used as your main weapon in any build. I use it as a secondary weapon to hit people at range during keep defense, and the AOE defending keeps and at choke points. The number 4 attack is also useful at keeping bad warriors away. The problem is that the autoattack is slow, it doesn’t hit very hard, and none of the other LB skills bring much to the table damage wise. The number 2 attack is ok, but it’s still not as good as the SB autoattack.
I run longbow/shortbow for W3. Quickening Zephyr + Longbow attack 2, and I am hitting for 3 and 4k on the last couple hits. Kiting is pretty cake with this combo + Jungle Spider + lightning reflexes. I do well if I get caught in a 1v1 situation unless a thief catches me not paying attention.
The point of camping a jumping puzzle is to stop the server from getting free siege. You can see the tactical advantage. Nobody is forcing you to complete the jumping puzzle. If people aren’t going back continually and giving the campers free XP, eventually the campers will leave.
Holy cow, I laughed so hard at that. If you are trolling my hat is off to you sir.
It’s not just Norn. Same thing happened to my Asura warrior earlier, right at the borderlands spawn point. I thought it was my keyboard at first.
You claim that WPvP is not about skill. Of course it is. If you are just going around following a zerg you will get beaten by superior strategy every time, even when you have greater numbers. If you don’t think there is any strategy to it then you don’t know what you are doing.
Example: Keep was zerged, orb was stolen, being escorted north by about 40 attackers. 8 people from our guild decided to try and split the group up while another 10 headed off the rest from the north. We recovered the orb AND ran it back to our keep in the chaos.
Example 2: Starfleet Dental was attacking Dreaming Bay. They were horribly outmanned. They grouped up on each other and had the guardians rotate their shields so we couldn’t touch them. As people saw them grouped up as one big bunch they jumped off the ramparts to AOE them, and didn’t realize what they were doing. They wiped our defense.
Here let me define skill for you and everyone else that doesn’t understand how WvW works.
Skill: the learned capacity to carry out pre-determined results often with the minimum outlay of time, energy, or both.
This just seems like whining about something for the sake of whining about something.
Ranger class too newb friendly/one dimensional, not enough viable builds in WvWvW

You had me until you said most rangers stick to longbows. My estimation is most rangers that know what they are doing are using quickening zephyr+shortbow. Longbow is very situational, and should really only be brought out for defending a tower/keep with the aoe, or trying to clear the walls of a tower/keep with the aoe.
Most classes are complaining about the exact same things that this thread is complaining about. Necros are complaining that they have a tiny number of viable builds, guardians are complaining that they have no real way to root and get kited too easily, Elementalists are complaining that they are too fragile, engineers complaining about flamethrower and that grenades is one of the only real viable specs, thieves and warriors shouldn’t really be complaining about anything. You get the point.
Gonna drop this right here. http://www.talesoftyria.com/tales-of-tyria/2011/12/20/the-psychology-of-winning-fail-better.html
You don’t know that any of those golems were bought with real cash. You got beaten and you are rationalizing your loss. Oh it must be that they are spending real money. Sounds to me like you just got outplayed. Imagine the coordination and supply needed to build 8 siege golems outside your front gate. On my server if we are gonna take a garrison/keep someone (usually one of the commanders) announces what we are doing in /map chat and asks for donations from everyone on the map. usually they come rolling in. 10 silver here and there adds up pretty fast.
Like a poster said above you HAVE to level through discovery. If you are trying to level through just making items, you will never get there. It’s actually very quick to level through discovery and you get good chunks of experience.
